While appreciative of his advice, Tsuki gave herself a few days before she spoke with Homura. I mean, really spoke with him since she kept their conversations virtually non-existent unless he joined her and the others on missions.
Tsuki styled the top layer of her hair back into an intricate bun, a decorative floral hair pin holding it in place. Her bangs were styled in a way that they framed her face instead of covering her eyes. It would be the first time she had styled her hair this way and she was still a bit nervous about doing so. Satisfied with her hair, Tsuki turned her attention to her attire.
She wore a long, slim fitting, qipao styled red dress that reached the floor, black trim and buttons accented the dress along with a golden phoenix embroidered into the fabric. The elegant bird had its wings opened, flying over lotus flowers of various sizes along the foot of the dress. She gave herself a nod of approval as she exited her room and headed towards the main chamber to finally speak with Homura.
Tsuki opened the door, entering the main chamber. Homura was facing a window, seemingly lost in thought. She quietly approached him, not wanting to disrupt him. Homura looked over his shoulder and smiled, relieved to see that Tsuki was in a pleasant mood.
“Hello, Tsuki,” he began.
“Hello, Homura,” she replied.
“You look stunning, as always, my dear.” Tsuki smiled at the comment, knowing that it was indeed true since she prided herself in her choice of clothing; even if it was still a qipao style dress. Though she had strengthened her resolve, she had a hard time resisting the part of her that wanted to throw her arms around him and apologize for being so stern and cross with him these past few months.
“Of course,” she replied, finally breaking the brief silence, “I expect heads to turn upon entering a room.” She posed in her dress, turning to show off the beautiful piece in full.
“Isn’t the anniversary of your mother’s death coming up soon,” Homura asked.
“Actually, it’s today,” Tsuki commented, “That’s what I came to talk to you about. I’m going to be off site all day.”
“Say no more,” Homura stated, holding a hand up to Tsuki. “We have progressed far enough with Sanzo and his band of misfits so taking a few days away from the mission would not be a bad idea.”
“That’s great,” Xenon commented, entering the room with Shien.
“Why, bored already,” Homura asked.
“It’s not that,” Xenon continued, “We’ve been so busy that I forgot about a death memorial for someone I also cared about.”
Homura quirked a brow. “Someone aside from your late wife and son? I didn’t think there was anyone else you cared for.”
Xenon shrugged his shoulders. “Hey, I care. I’m just not a babysitter. We were really close and I still feel responsible for her death. It should’ve been preventable but someone in Heaven was too damn good at their job.”
The comment made Tsuki’s blood boil. How many people did Heaven order to kill just because they didn’t like someone? How many gods were exiled simply because they did not enjoy just being told what to do each day? Tsuki wanted to see what would become of Heaven once their plans came to fruition but also knew she needed to practice patience.
“Would you two like some company? I’m sure we could all use some fresh air after all the chaos lately,” Homura commented.
“Yeah, I don’t mind,” Xenon replied, “How ‘bout you, Tsuki?”
Tsuki turned to him and nodded. “I do not mind.”
“Then why don’t we all go together,” Shien chimed in. At first Tsuki felt a little uncomfortable with the idea, but at the same time, she could clearly see everyone in that room had lost someone important to them. Who was she to say that they all couldn’t take one day to mourn a loss together? With the way everyone was so focused on the mission lately, it’s not unheard of that they would forget about dates that were important.
“Sure,” she began, “I think we could all use the support, even if some of us won’t vocalize it.”
“Why you lookin’ at me when you say that,” Xenon snapped. The room burst out into laughter. Despite the tough-guy persona, each of the guys had opened up to Tsuki and confided in her. They clearly all felt comfortable enough to share their troubles with her. It had been centuries since she, herself, felt comfortable and open enough to trust more individuals.
Tsuki turned to Homura, “I had planned to go to that place.” Homura immediately knew where she was speaking. It was the same field next to the river where he, Tsuki, and Rinrei would frequent when they came down to the Lower World. He turned to Shien and Xenon and explained the location where they would all travel. The two nodded at Homura, agreeing that they’d head out immediately and meet Homura and Tsuki there.
Shien and Xenon teleported out of the tower. “I will follow momentarily,” Tsuki began, “I am going back upstairs to gather some seeds and grow flowers for my mother at the river.”
“Then I will meet you there,” Homura replied. With a warm smile, he disappeared, leaving Tsuki on her own. She also disappeared, teleporting back to her room to swiftly pack her satchel before teleporting out of the tower.
•
When Tsuki appeared in the middle of the open field, she saw Xenon and Shien near the river; Xenon was leaning against a tree that wasn’t there a few decades ago. Then again, it had been a long time since Tsuki had come back to this area. For the most part, everything was the same. Homura appeared next to her, smiling as he offered a hand out to her.
Securing the bouquet of flowers she brought with her in one hand, she reached her other hand out to Homura’s as he guided her towards the river. This was not a day to argue or show malice, at least for now.
“This place ain’t so bad,” Xenon commented, enjoying the scenery.
“It is quite peaceful and serene,” Shien agreed.
“It’s changed quite a bit from what it used to be,” Homura replied. Tsuki took her hand back from Homura and approached the river’s edge. The guys continued to talk behind her as she watched the water flowing, drowning out their conversation as she removed her satchel, setting down the flowers as she grabbed a pouch and sprinkled some of her seeds along the length of the shoreline.
Closing her eyes, Tsuki focused on the water and gently pulled it up the shoreline, washing over the dirt and seeds as they sank into the ground before an array of flowers bloomed. Tsuki grabbed the flowers she brought and stood back up, clasping the bouquet in her hands as she got lost in thought.
The wind gently began to blow, rustling the grass. She felt a set of hands on her shoulders, Tsuki turned up to see Homura who also had a solemn look on his face. She was sure he was thinking about Rinrei. While she was still jealous of Rinrei, Tsuki had to admit that she likely wouldn’t have had any of this time with Homura had Heaven not taken such drastic actions regarding their relationship.
A figure appeared in her peripheral vision, it was Shien! He also seemed to be enjoying the view of the river as she felt a presence on her other side. She turned her head to see Xenon rotating something between his fingers, also lost in thought. She smiled to herself, grateful to have met all three men with her.
Tsuki broke silence among the four, saying a few quick choice words regarding her mother before tossing the bouquet into the river, a symbolic gesture of passing on the flower arrangement to her mother. The other three seemed to be a bit more reserved in saying any words for those they lost. The thing in Xenon’s hand reflected against the light, certain angles shining right in her eye.
“What do you keep fiddling with,” Tsuki finally asked.
“What, this,” Xenon asked, holding a ring out to Tsuki. “I kept this as a token of the woman I cared about. Her husband turned out to be a real bastard. I raised him, took him under my wing and made him my subordinate when I was still an assassin for the Heavens. His wife...” Xenon looked down at the ring, “before I met my Mirei, I was in love with her. She only had eyes for him though.”
Xenon sighed deeply before finishing his thought. “It was all for the best. I couldn’t have imagined a life without my beautiful Mirei and our unborn son had he not killed them both.”
Tsuki looked back up at Xenon. “Xenon,” she softly began, the atmosphere feeling heavy with his sorrow, “are their burial sites nearby? Shall we go visit them next,” she asked solemnly, feeling the sorrow in his words as he shook his head.
“No,” replied Xenon, “my Mirei and son were murdered here in the Lower World, but it’s not something to trouble yourselves over.” Tsuki sighed, kneeling down next to the river’s edge.
“Still,” she continued, “to have kept a wedding ring from another woman, you must still have feelings for her.”
Xenon balled his hand around the ring, frustrated. “Without getting too sappy about it, she will always have a small place in my heart after Mirei and my son. Although I gotta admit...”
Tsuki looked up at him as his sentence trailed off. “If only I had gotten there sooner. I was exhausted after an unsuccessful hunt. I was returning home to Mirei when I came across that damn assassin standing over Suzuran’s body.”
Tsuki’s eyes widened as she jumped to her feet. “What did you just...”
“What,” Xenon asked firmly as he quirked a brow at her.
Tsuki had doubts in her mind, maybe it was just a common name that she was unaware of. There was strong urge in her mind that needed to explore his story further. “May I look at that ring,” Tsuki asked, not sure if he’d even permit her to look at such a trinket.
“Sure,” Xenon replied. Tsuki held out her hand, thanking Xenon as he delicately placed the ring in her hand. Tsuki rotated the ring before noticing a distinct inscription on the inside the band. The color from Tsuki’s face faded, recognizing the custom engraving inside the ring.
“Xenon,” she began, “where did you get this ring again? What was her name?”
“Her name was Suzuran.”
Tsuki snapped her head back up at him, the features on her face firming up. “What happened?”
“What,” Xenon asked, confused at her sudden question.
“What happened to Suzuran when you saw that assassin?”
“Why do you care,” Xenon replied with some irritation in his voice. “She was killed about 500 years ago and a Recovery Team came not too long after that assassin left.”
“Did the team say what they were doing with her? Why would Heaven need a Recovery Team?”
“Jesus, woman! I don’t know, they said something about Suzuran being intentionally sent down to the Lower World because she was no longer needed. They said they had to bring her back in order to cover up her death. I didn’t get all the details and I wasn’t exactly in any sort of condition to take on a bunch of heavily soldiers to interrogate them!”
“What about her husband? Where was he in all this,” Tsuki balled her fist around the ring, tears stinging in her eyes.
“Last I heard, that bastard Souei abandoned his post in Heaven! He didn’t seem too concerned about getting back to her when I last saw him,” Xenon snapped. Tsuki’s knuckles turned white, her grip tightening around the ring.
“Tsuki,” Shien softly replied before Tsuki spoke over him.
“If he wasn’t going to do anything, then why didn’t you,” Tsuki demanded.
“How dare you,” Xenon firmly stated back, “My feelings for Suzuran changed when Mirei became my priority! Especially after she became pregnant! I cared for Suzuran but I was not going to risk my wife being without a husband and father for our son!”
“Xenon! Tsuki, calm down,” Homura calmly stated as he placed a hand on Tsuki’s shoulder which she shook off.
“If everything you’re saying is true, then my mother did not die from a long term illness like I was told,” Tsuki said, her voice shaking in anger. Things were starting to click in her mind. After that one mission all those years ago, she was never allowed to see her mother when she was on her deathbed.
“Tsuki! What the hell are you talking about,” Xenon asked as the air began to kick up loose flecks of dirt, the wind beginning to howl.
If what Xenon was saying was true, then Li Touten lied to her regarding her mission that night; he made her kill her own mother. She had attended the funeral ceremony, but her uncle took care of the cremation! If Tsuki had been able to see her mother, would she have known? Was she just another tool like Nataku?
“Shit,” Tsuki thought to herself, “I had heard all the rumors, but disregarded all of them because I trusted unc—Li Touten. Dammit, all these centuries...how did I not see it?” An aura emitted around Tsuki as her colored eyes began to glow.
“My father” Tsuki began, her voice shaking a bit, “was that bastard Souei.” Xenon’s jaw dropped in disbelief. Tsuki looked up at him, her eyes filled with rage as she continued, “This ring,” her voice echoed through the air, “belonged to my mother, Suzuran!” Small pieces of Tsuki’s restraints broke off as the trees swayed violently. “Li Touten...that night...” her voice cracked as her head fell back, “he tricked me...he tricked me into killing my mother,” she whispered.
Homura took a step towards the half-breed to try and calm her, but a burst of her spiritual energy pushed the three men away from her. They all cried out as they recovered. Branches snapped off trees, the ground began to tremble as Shien and Xenon turned to Homura.
“Just what in the hell is going on,” Xenon shouted, frustrated as he turned to Homura.
“Tsuki, calm down,” Homura pleaded to her.
Tsuki turned to him and slowly began to levitate high into the air. Homura hovered up towards her. Tsuki furrowed her brow, another wall of her spiritual energy shoving him back. Homura quickly recovered as Tsuki’s eyes turned black, dirt and debris flying everywhere as the half-breed’s rage howled throughout the field.
“She’s a demon,” Xenon cried out.
“Not quite,” Shien replied, “given her parentage, she’s half. But that does not mean she’s not dangerous.”
Tsuki looked down at them as her hair changed from a brilliant silver to obsidian. Demon markings became prominent on her face and along her arms as brilliant golden peach colored light enveloped her, the ground beneath them began to vibrate.
“What the hell is happening to her,” Xenon asked, shielding his face from the dirt whirling around the area.
“It’s her power limiters,” Homura shouted, “they’re breaking!” The field began to grow around them, forming a giant wall of weeds, grass, and other various plant life. A platform rose under Tsuki, raising her high in the air. The ground under their feet began to rumble and crack violently. The three of them quickly teleported, reappearing on a cliff raised far in the distance. Homura glared at the angry half-breed. “It goes without saying,” he continued, “but we have to contain the situation.”
“And just how in the hell do you suppose we do that,” Xenon asked. Homura had to think, knowing that Tsuki was likely still angry with him, he was certain there wouldn’t be anything he would be able to do to calm her fury.
“I have no idea, but we have to work quickly,” Homura commented, “she’s been confined from accessing her demonic blood to this degree her whole life.”
“What,” Xenon exclaimed, “but what about the night she disappeared?”
“She only tapped into a fraction of her abilities,” replied Shien, “Even though her and I had some training sessions, I could sense there was more she could do and wasn’t sure how risky it would be if I taught her. I felt it was for the best for her to be able to learn to control what she was able to access and nothing more.”
“Being that she was forbidden in Heaven,” Homura explained, “her mother made her wear power limiters at a young age to mask her demonic blood. Who knows how powerful she may be if they were to completely break off.”
“Are you suggesting she could potentially be as powerful as Gyumaoh,” Shien asked, pulling out his handles and focused his energies on generating his whips.
“I haven’t the slightest clue,” Homura answered, “but given the energy radiating off her, do you really want to find out?”
Tsuki looked down at the three of them, the ground rumbling beside her as long tendrils of thick vines grew from the ground. Everything connected to the Earth seemed to be moving as one with Tsuki without her having to provide direction or recite any spells. The elongated vines by Tsuki’s side shot towards the trio. Shien took a defensive stance in front of the other two, building the energy within his whips.
When the vines were close enough, Shien sharply snapped each of his whips at the vines, effortlessly slicing and knocking away as many yards of the tendrils forced at them. The arms of the vines went slack, having the length run its course.
Tsuki glared at Shien, another large piece of her power limiter cracking off as the ground suddenly caved in under his feet. He quickly recovered his balance and jumped back onto solid ground. The depth of the crevasse was so deep within the earth’s crust, Shien was certain she was going to cause unnatural earthquakes or even surface lava. He dissipated one of his whips, reaching his hand up to his bun. This was definitely a last resort and Shien didn’t want to hurt Tsuki, but he also didn’t want to waste time and repeat the mistakes of his past.
“Don’t bother, man,” Xenon called out, stopping Shien. “I don’t think it’s going to be that dramatic.” Xenon reached one hand behind his back, materializing his banishing rifle. “Don’t worry,” he called out to Homura before he even said anything, “I’m just gonna use low-energy bullets to stun her.”
Tsuki raised both of her arms, the cracks in her power limiters deepening further, a third of the material already missing. The ground began to shake as thick, thorny trees sprouted from the Earth. Each branch twisted and curled as the ground under the guys dipped at a steep angle, aiming for them to meet a painful landing in the thorny bushes. The trio exclaimed at the sudden dip and softening of the dirt, pushing off and teleporting in opposite directions.
Tsuki threw her arms down in a forceful motion, the thorns and ground exploding as a crater formed in its place. The guys reappeared in different areas, staring at Tsuki as they found themselves dumbfounded by the situation. Tsuki pulled her arms up again, a fountain of lava bubbling to the surface, magma pillars forming in various spots. The three stared in awe of her power, the gleam of the lava gave Tsuki a sinister glow as the molten rock bubbled in a heated pond that separated them from her.
Shien launched himself towards Tsuki, snapping his whips at the hot pillars as they popped, exploding droplets of lava as he tried to tear down the molten barrier. Tsuki smirked as Shien made his way through the hot pillars. She pulled water from the nearby stream, a barrier forming around her as Xenon jumped towards Tsuki. Taking aim with his rifle and making slight adjustments to his spiritual energy bullets so as to attempt to penetrate her hydro barrier, Xenon confidently shot off a few rounds. Upon impact, the bullets collapsed against the barrier. How the hell was he supposed to try and disrupt her defensive barrier without injuring her?
Shien snapped his whips against her barrier in a barrage of attacks, the barrier never faltering from the assault. Tsuki began to recite a spell, the water spinning around her began to glow and buzz with the incantation. Xenon teleported directly above her, seeing that there was a clear opening above her. He thought it seemed sloppy of her to have just left herself exposed. He re-adjusted his energy bullets and took aim again.
Hearing the gun cock, the water stopped spinning around Tsuki. Xenon hesitated, choking back his regret as the water shot up from Tsuki and engulfed him. Shien cried out to him, immediately re-appearing next to Xenon as he struggled to breathe. The water began to glow before resting and moving to Shien. Xenon coughed as Shien attempted to use his own spiritual energy to get out of the aquatic prison. After the glow from the water faded, the liquid fell to the ground, pulling the two men with it. Landing hard on the ground, Shien cursed the half-breed under his breath.
“What the hell was that,” Xenon asked as he helped pull Shien to his feet.
“We’re in trouble,” Shien answered, “She put an enchantment on the water which soaked through our skin. We won’t be able to teleport.” Xenon gave a look at Shien who scoffed at his comment before trying to teleport, but was unable to.
“So exactly does that mean?”
“The water she forced into our bodies disables the use of teleportation. It was a tactic outlawed in the Heavenly Army,” Shien explained.
“Bullshit,” Xenon scoffed. He attempted to teleport again, but nothing changed. He felt his blood tingling all throughout his body. Teleporting was second nature to him, so having this ability disabled was a foreign feeling. He focused harder on trying to teleport, but felt a definite block on his abilities. Xenon’s body felt heavy the harder he tried pushing himself against Tsuki’s spell.
Tsuki threw her head back and laughed; it was a sinister sound. Xenon glared at her, frustrated that his ability for a quick escape was taken away. “Damnit. Homura, we’re running out of options, here!”
At that moment, thick trunks sprouted from the ground, reaching for Xenon and Shien. Xenon was not fortunate enough to dodge the branch that wrapped itself around his leg, quickly curling and spreading to his other leg. Shien snapped his energy whips as he evaded the ambush, snapping the length of the whip along the plant life that was pulling Xenon towards the pool of magma.
A bright arc of flames pierced through the air, leveling the trees. The disruption caused the branches around Xenon’s leg to go slack as the flames passed through Tsuki. The attack struck the landscape behind her, exploding into a sea of fire as the silhouette of Tsuki became distorted before morphing together again. Homura stood meters away from her with his bright orange sword drawn, flames flickering off the blade as he stared at the phenomenon of what just occurred.
“His attack cut right through her, but she is unharmed,” Shien observed. Xenon and Shien both levitated away from Tsuki as Xenon aimed his rifle again and fired off a few rounds. The bullets passed through Tsuki, the entry wounds distorting before filling back in.
Shien charged her, whips fully extended before he snapped them repeatedly at her body. With each swipe, her image distorted before swirling and piecing itself back together. He gripped the handles of his whips, increasing the output of his spiritual energy and waved his arms wildly at Tsuki. In one fluid motion, Tsuki brought her hand from her side to high above her head. The ground shot up from under Shien, a pillar of solid rock hitting him hard and launching him through the air. As he flew, the tip of his whip snapped at her feet causing Tsuki to cry out in pain.
“Shien,” Homura cried out. Xenon glared at the half-breed before firing off more rounds, this time aiming for her shadow. Tsuki cried out in pain at the impact, the image of her body reacting to the bullets hitting her shadow.
“I thought so,” Xenon commented as he stopped his assault.
“What was that,” Homura asked.
“It’s Souei,” he replied, “Before I killed him, I thought he was an illusion before realizing his physical form was really his shadow. I had no idea that was a trait that could be passed down to his offspring.”
Tsuki let out a scream in frustration, the sound was of anger and pain as the thorny walls bordering the area grew fierce and more violent before they all thrust out at the three trying to subdue her. A thick trunk made contact with Shien, knocking him to a grassy cliff. Xenon cried out to him, rushing to his side as Tsuki glared at him. Homura appeared in front of Tsuki, hoping to distract her from further attacks.
“This stops now, Tsuki,” he firmly stated as he stared her down. Tsuki glared at Homura as a wall of water from the river shot towards him, sending him flying into the thorny wall. He cried out in pain, branches popping and cracking under his weight as each pointed tip impaled flesh where he landed.
Xenon helped Shien sit up, dumbfounded as he looked over to Homura. A blast of Homura’s spiritual power exploded the thorny wall and pushed aside part of the lava pool, giving him a wide clearing as he wracked his brain to come up with a plan of attack. Tsuki closed her eyes, focusing as the ground began to violently shake and crack. They were running out of options, and Homura wasn’t wanting to cause severe injury that likely would result in death, but she was backing the trio into a corner.
“For crying out loud, never send a man to do a goddess’ job,” a voice echoed out. A bright light from the heavens engulfed the area, Tsuki’s rage subsided as she was stunned by the brilliance of the glow. An air of calm enveloped the area, it was soothing to all embraced by its heavenly light.
Tsuki stared in awed silence at the beauty of the light and as glittering spheres made their way towards her. The first few specks of spheres landed on Tsuki’s power limiters, shattering them and ridding her of the damaged bands. Once the other golden spheres touched her skin, they began to glow where they landed. The golden markings expanded and connected, piecing together and forming a new set of power limiters along her forearms and extending to the backs of each hand before solidifying.
When the golden light faded, so did all of the demonic markings on Tsuki. Her eyes turned back to their original colors, her hair turned silver again as the golden light from the power limiters faded and soon were replaced with the familiar gold trim and primarily red band. Tsuki let out an exhausted sigh as she fainted. The thickened brush grew limp and branches bounced softly as they relaxed. The surface of the bubbling pool of lava began to cool and go black. Homura teleported to Tsuki, catching her as the unsupported cliffs shifted until they settled.
“Who the hell was that,” Xenon asked, hooking one arm under Shien and helped him back on his feet.
“Me,” replied a voice. A golden silhouette appeared by the river’s edge. When it solidified, there stood the Merciful Goddess. “I really thought you boys were going to pull it off,” she commented.
“Why did you help us,” Shien asked.
“You’re not the only ones that provide entertainment when watching from up in Heaven,” she stated.
“So we’re just a bunch of monkeys dancing for your amusement,” Xenon snapped.
“Hardly,” she replied, “despite what you may think, you boys are actually making those old Heavenly fuddy duddies lose their minds, thinking the absolute worst of the situation down here in the Lower World. I for one think they’re overreacting, it’s been enjoyable to watch you four nonetheless.”
Homura levitated towards the Merciful Goddess before landing near her, Tsuki resting in his arms. “Then you will not stop us?”
Kanzeon Bosatsu turned to him and chuckled. “Homura, if I were trying to stop any of you, don’t you think I would have interfered eons ago?” Homura was taken aback by her comment, almost as if she were being condescending, like she didn’t think they could do it. But he was also aware that there were many people living lavishly in Heaven that were also bored with how things were being ran and living up there overall.
“Well, I’ve done all I can to keep you boys on track.”
“You’re leaving already,” Shien asked.
“I have no reason to stay. It was clear things were going to get out of hand and it seems like the three of you care for Tsuki to some degree since none of you were going to take off your power limiters against her.” The Merciful Goddess smiled at the group who seemed stunned by her comment. The four of them had been together for some time, and none of them were willing to admit they all cared for one another despite the tough-guy facade.
The Merciful Goddess held out her hand, materializing a medium-sized pouch and handed it to Shien. “Here,” she began, “I got this from a healer that specializes in ointments and other cures for ailments on demons and heavenly beings.”
Shien accepted the pouch, intrigued by the comment. “Not to be rude, but as gods, any sort of physical injury can be instantly cured due to our immense spiritual energies. Why would something like this be necessary?”
Kanzeon Bosatsu smiled, turning from the group. “Tsuki essentially crippled the two of you,” she began, “if she doesn’t wake up soon, the ingredients in that pouch will reverse the effects of her little water trick. Farewell.” With that comment, the Merciful Goddess’ image stretched and dissolved into the air, leaving the four alone in the field. Shien stared at the pouch before tucking it in his robes.
“Will you be able to make a cure for Tsuki’s curse,” Xenon asked.
“I’ll have to examine the contents, but I’m sure I can do it,” Shien replied, “unfortunately, it may take a while.” Xenon rolled his eyes, cursing under his breath before looking at Tsuki still asleep in Homura’s arms. Xenon felt a ping of sorrow in his chest as her face struggled to find inner peace in her unconscious state.
“I will bring her back to the tower,” Homura began, breaking the silence, “I will return with dragons.” Without giving the chance for the other two to reply, Homura warped out of the area. Xenon spat on the ground, frustrated as he wandered over to a tree outside the area disturbed by Tsuki’s rage. He helped Shien to the ground, leaning against the tree, being careful as to not agitate any injuries.
“I had no idea they had a kid,” he commented, “then the fact that Li Touten made her kill her own mother? I don’t blame her for letting go the way she did.”
In the distance, Xenon caught something reflecting against the sunlight. He cautiously walked back over to the pit that was now stone lava and knelt down. There, in the hardened rock was the ring. Xenon sighed as he picked up Suzuran’s ring. He held it in his hand one last time before wandering over to a tree outside the crater. Kneeling down, Xenon dug a shallow hole and buried the ring, silently saying his farewell.
