UNEXPECTED
Two weeks later.
Aster was heading towards Rhapsody in Blue, the restaurant adjacent to the Tokyo Concert Hall when she spotted a familiar yellow convertible parked in front of it.
She headed towards it, smiling. She hadn’t seen Haruka in a few days, and she wanted to tell her the good news she had received a few hours before: Takagi was back in Tokyo, and he was meeting her in less than an hour.
She spotted the blonde racer sitting by one of the windows, with Hotaru across from her. They both waved to her and beckoned her to join them.
She came in and sat down in the chair facing the window.
“I have some wonderful news,” she told Haruka. “Takagi called me two hours ago, before I came over for rehearsal. He’s meeting me here in a little while.”
“So you were worried for nothing,” Haruka observed, smiling at the other Senshi. “I’m happy for you, Sun-face.”
“Thanks,” Aster said. “Are you waiting for Michiru?”
“Yes,” Haruka replied. “We thought we’d have an early dinner, and then go to a movie. Hotaru wants to go to Goofy Golf.”
“Family night,” Aster said, smiling. “Usagi’s going out with Mamoru tonight, and he’s promised to have her home by midnight. The other girls are going to karaoke. They promised not to be out too late.”
“Do you think it’s safe?” Haruka asked.
“They promised not to go anywhere alone,” Aster said. “If you and Michiru want some time alone, I’m sure that ChibiUsa would like Hotaru’s company.”
“We’ll discuss it when Michiru gets here,” Haruka said. “She might be interested.”
The two of them sipped their tea and watched people walk and drive past the restaurant. Aster had just started to wonder what was keeping Michiru when Haruka stiffened and muttered a curse under her breath.
“What is it?” Aster asked her friend.
“Something’s wrong,” Haruka said. “I have to go check in Michiru.”
“I’ll go with you,” Aster said, rising to her feet and pulling some money out of her pocket. She and Hotaru followed the other Senshi out of the restaurant.
They had just reached the entrance to the parking for the concert hall when a metal-flake green Lamborghini came roaring out and turned past them and drove down the street.
Aster felt her heart freeze when she recognized the green-black queue and profile of the driver.
She felt it shatter when she saw familiar looking aqua hair blow out of the open passenger window.
~*~*~*~*~
Aster didn’t remember going home. All she felt was the searing pain in her heart. She forgot about Haruka and Hotaru. She forgot about the girls going out to karaoke. She forgot about Usagi and Mamoru out on a date.
She found herself sitting in her living room, staring at Takagi’s chair, tears streaming down her face. After having the chair made, and seeing him in it a few times, she realized that he was not going to sit in it again. She found looking at it intolerable, but she couldn’t stop staring.
She found herself thinking of her planet partner, and that brought to mind, again, that Takagi was gone, and he had taken Michiru with him. She could have tolerated him leaving her, but he had taken her Sea Sprite with him.
She sat there, staring at the chair, while time passed, and the room darkened around her. She had given Tori and Washino the afternoon to help Chimei finish setting up their dojo, and they had not returned yet.
She heard the car gate squeal, and footsteps on the porch. She heard conversation as Washino, Tori, and Chimei changed their shoes for slippers, and then came into the house.
All three of them stopped when they found Aster sitting alone.
“I thought you had a date,” Tori said finally.
Aster shrugged. She felt Washino kneel next to her, and felt him brush at her wet cheek.
“You’re crying,” he said. “What makes you so sad?”
“He’s gone,” Aster whispered, tearing her eyes from the chair. “Takagi never picked me up. He took off in his green race car with Michiru in the passenger seat. He left me. He didn’t want me anymore, and he didn’t have the nerve to tell me himself. He doesn’t care about what he’s done to Haruka. What’s she going to do without Michiru?”
“We should find out,” Chimei said from the doorway. “Uranus has never been without Neptune. She could do something rash.”
“She’s strong,” Tori argued. “She’ll be fine.”
“It is exactly because she appears so strong,” Chimei said. “The strongest tree in the forest breaks when you least expect it. All it takes is the wrong wind, or the removal of what supports it.”
“So what do you think we should do?” Tori asked.
“We should find out where she went, and what she is doing,” Chimei said. “What do you think we should do, Warleader?”
Chimei’s words reminded Aster that someone besides herself must be hurting. That someone was another Senshi. The wellbeing of yet another Senshi, a very powerful one, hung in the balance as well.
“Go find her,” she whispered. “Bring her and Hotaru here. They shouldn’t be alone after something like this. Kage, go find out where the girls are, and tell them that I need them here. Find Usagi and tell her the same thing. Tori, you go over to the men’s house and find Saturn and Uranus. Their partners will need their support after a blow like this. Bring Neptune as well. At least he’s not connected to her the way I’m connected to Kunzite. At least he’s not going to be feeling what they’re doing.”
“Get Sol as well,” Washino ordered Tori. “Saturn and Uranus aren’t the only ones in need of support.”
“No,” Aster said. “My sister needs him more than I do.”
“They can both come,” Washino said. “You need them.”
“Find Uranus, Chimei,” Aster said, turning her eyes to the Weaponsmaster. “I don’t want her doing something foolish. You’re right, she’s never been alone like this before. I don’t know what she’ll do.”
She turned her attention to Washino.
“I gave you instructions, Charon,” she said. “I expect them to be carried out.”
“Yes, Warleader,” he said. He backed away from her, transformed, and then sank into the shadow under a chair.
Chimei and Tori both left, after Chimei put a gentle hand on Aster’s head.

At the large house that the Kishi were occupying, Akari was washing the dinner dishes with Thomas’ help when Tori came in the back door.
“There’s been a crisis,” he told Akari. “It seems that Takagi has decided that the depths of the sea are more to his taste than the fires of the sun.”
Akari and Thomas both frowned. They knew that Tori wasn’t referring to Kishi Neptune. The lavender-haired man was currently in the living room of the house, sharing a seat with his lover while the men checked what was on TV.
“That is not good,” Akari said. She dried her hands on a towel and headed out of the kitchen.
In the living room, Vincent moved over to make room for his wife, and then stopped when he felt the rising anger in her.
“We are needed at Aster’s house,” Akari said. “Takagi has left her, and taken Sailor Neptune with him. Aster needs us, and then we need to find Uranus and Saturn. They will be just as devastated by this turn of events. When I see him, he had better hope I have calmed down!”
She threw the towel in her hands into a chair to punctuate her words and then headed towards the kitchen, and the back door.
Vincent looked over at Sean, and beckoned to him.
“Y’all better come to, Red,” he said. “Even if yo’ partner takes this well, y’all can help console mine.”
“I think we should all go,” Robert said, rising from his chair. “There’s strength in numbers, and we have to show her that Takagi’s actions are universally disapproved of.”
“I agree,” Martin said, standing up himself. “At any rate, I’m going.”
“Okay,” Vincent said. “We’ll all go. She can prob’ly use all the help she can git.”

At the karaoke club, Ami jumped in surprise when Charon rose out of the shadow of a chair and stood before them.
“That wasn’t very nice, Charon,” ChibiUsa said, putting her hands on her hips. “You’re supposed to be careful, and not use your powers except for business.”
“This is business,” he told her. “You are summoned back to the house. Something has happened, and Sol needs moral support. Pluto did not meet her as planned, but he did not go home alone.”
“He picked up some bimbo?” Makoto growled. Like all of the others, she was very attached to Aster, and not just because they lived with her.
“I would not call Sailor Neptune a bimbo,” Charon said.
“Neptune?” all of the girls sounded incredulous.
“What about Haruka?” Mina’s first concern was for the Senshi left behind.
“The Weaponsmaster is locating her and he will see to it that she and Saturn are unharmed,” Charon told them. “You need to return to the house.”
“We’re on our way,” Makoto said, picking up her jacket. “Come on guys. Does anyone know where Usagi and Mamoru were going tonight?”
“I think they were going to the Koi Pond,” Rei said. “Usagi’s always wanted to go there.”
“I will check there,” Charon said. “I am bidden by the Warleader to have them come to the house, as well. She says it is for Uranus, but I believe that she needs the support just as much, if not more.”
~*~*~*~*~
At the Koi Pond, Usagi could not stop gawking at the expensive decorations, or the interconnected platforms that dotted the enormous fishpond that gave the restaurant its name. Multitudes of brightly colored fish swam around, waiting for guests to toss bits of food to them. Among them, parting the ways wherever it went, was an enormous koi that was snow white. According to the information at the door, it was the largest koi in a private collection. It’s name was ‘ghost.’
They were halfway through their meal when there was a light step behind Usagi and someone cleared his throat.
Usagi knew the voice that belonged to those motions, and she turned towards him, fear making her belly churn.
“What is it?” she asked. “Is ChibiUsa alright?”
“The little one is fine,” he told her. “The Warleader, however, is not as good. She did not meet her date, and he left with another woman.”
“You must be Washino,” Mamoru said, rising to his feet. “Are we needed?”
“The Warleader needs support and comfort,” Washino said. “It would be best if you could come quickly.”
“We’ll leave right away,” Mamoru said, beckoning to their waiter. “Are you waiting for us?”
“No,” Washino said. “She needs me, as well. I will make my own way to her.”
~*~*~*~*~
When Usagi and Mamoru arrived at the House of the Sun and parked on the street, they could hear sobbing from inside the house. They came in cautiously, to find Aster wrapped up in Akari’s arms, crying so hard that her whole body shook with the force of it.
Predictably, Makoto was in the kitchen, cooking. She was helping Vincent make something that looked incredibly complicated. Ami and Rei were sitting to one side, looking lost. Mina was filing her nails, a murderous look on her otherwise lovely face.
“She saw Takagi leave the Concert Hall,” Mina told them. “She saw Michiru’s hair blowing out of the passenger side. She doesn’t know where Haruka is. She doesn’t even remember how she got home.”
“Is someone out looking for Haruka?” Usagi asked. “She must be devastated. Does anyone know where Hotaru is? First her father leaves her, and now Michiru? She’s probably crying her eyes out.”
“Chimei’s looking for them,” Ami said. “I don’t know how successful he’ll be.”
“I know who will be successful,” Usagi said. She turned to the various men who were sitting or standing on the edges of the group.
“Which one of you is Saturn?” she demanded. “And who is Uranus?”
Sean and Nathan raised their hands. Usagi nodded to them.
“Do you both have cars?” she asked.
They looked at each other, and Nathan nodded while Sean looked a bit sheepish.
“Actually,” he said. “I never learned how t’drive. I’ve got me own driver.”
“Okay,” Usagi said. “You have your driver take you around town, and you see if you can sense your planet partner. Take one of the girls with you, so you can find your way back without any trouble.”
“I’ll go,” Rei said, rising to her feet. “I’m not doing any good here. If he senses his partner, at least I know what she looks like.”
“None of ye lasses look any differ’nt from last time,” Sean said. “I’ll know me firefly if I see her.”
“I thought you were Saturn,” Rei said. “You’re the quietest of the bunch.”
“If oi know me pahtnah,” Nathan said. “She’ll be at th’ track. Oi’ll staht theah fahst.”
“Take Ami with you,” Usagi said. “She knows Tokyo like the back of her hand. She’ll be able to get you back here, no matter where you end up.”
“Roight,” Nathan said. He stood up and he held out his hand to the man next to him.
“Come on, lavendah,” he said. “Let’s go foind me pahtnah befoah she does somethin’ stupid.”
“Roight,” Quentin said as he stood up. “We won’t come back without ‘er.”
The three of them left out the back door, followed by Sean, Eduard, and Rei.
“Is there anything we can do, Akari?” Usagi asked.
Akari shook her head as she stroked her sister’s hair.
“There is nothing to do except let her cry,” she said. “This is a hard blow to her. If I had any idea where he was, I would go there and give them both a piece of my mind.”
“I just hope that we can find Haruka,” Usagi said. “She and Michiru have been together as long as I’ve known them. I can’t believe this.”
