As the family eats their dinner, Alex has to prevent Layla from flinging a spoonful of potatoes at Conleth, but before she can move, a cold chill runs down her spine and makes her freeze.
“Saki, please, take the kids and put them in their balls. Jade, come with me, Arkanon, stay with Saki.” Alex whispers as her eyes go wide at the feeling. Unknown to her, her eyes have begun to glow a molten red, and her sister realizes something is terribly wrong. As she recalls the kids into their Pokéballs, she nods to Jade to go with her.
“Alex, what’s wrong? I can feel your aura and it’s very off. Something is wrong, so don’t deny it.” Jade whispers, earning a terrified look from her mate’s little sister.
“Jade, Earlier when we were outside, I could feel this strange darkness in the forest, almost like it was burning with hatred and trying to consume me. Just now, I felt like my blood was freezing in my veins. All I know is that we’re all in grave danger as long as we stay here, and while this is my home, I have a family now that I need to protect. Please, can you use your power to read the area and see if something’s around here?” Alex comments, a small energy flame burning in her left hand as she stares out the glass door into the edge of the forest. Jade nods and closes her eyes, her body beginning to glow a deep green color as she senses the life force of the surrounding area. Suddenly, her eyes snap open and for a moment, Alex notices a look of fear washing over her before it’s gone.
“There is something here. I can’t see it, but I know it’s there because it isn’t.” Jade comments, sounding drained from her use of energy. Alex is confused and looks at her with a raised eyebrow.
“My kind cannot see Dark Pokémon types. They appear as black spots in our vision. This being is malicious, intent on death and it reeks of decay. This being thrives on hatred and revenge, it thirsts for blood. That is what my instinct says about it. I could feel death around it like a shield. This being is dangerous, Alex, and we should leave very soon before it can find us.” Jade explains, deciding not to tell the woman that the blood she senses coating this being is that of countless hybrids, and the blood of Jeovi and her pups is mixed in.
“You tell Saki that it’s time for us to leave. I’ll break the news to Jeovi myself. She’s grown comfortable here, so it might be difficult for her to have to move. Our parents weren’t rich, but they do have several houses in the different regions provided for them by their job. All of them were willed to us when they died. I’m sure we can go to one of them.” Alex comments, quickly leading Jade back into the house. As they go towards the back bedroom to pack their things, Saki bursts into the room.
“Alex, what the hell was that? All of a sudden you froze like a Deerling in headlights and your eyes glowed red, and then you took off. Now you’re packing suitcases. What the hell happened to you?” Saki growls, her tone almost hostile towards her sister.
“Jade sensed a Dark type Pokémon. It was hostile, and scared her. This Pokémon is powerful, dangerous, and intent on wiping us all out. So either help me pack, or get ready to die helping me defend this house. We’re moving to one of the other houses Mom and Dad had in the other regions. Get Princess and Jade ready to go. I’ve gotta pack for Thunderbuzz and the others. Make sure we don’t forget the kids’ stuff.” Alex comments, heading towards her room to see Jeovi. She finds the fox cowering under the bed, giggling maniacally.
“How does it feel? Are you enjoying it? Do you want to join them? I can end it you know, yes, yes I can end it.” Jeovi rambles, before bursting into tears. As Alex approaches her, Jeovi growls viciously at the woman before trying to slash at her.
“I told you you couldn’t save me! I told you he’d come for me, and now he has, we’ve been found, yes, and soon the blood of your puppies will coat his evil claws, and then your mate’s blood and insides will be his outsides. He might have pity on your sister, but the pretty one might just be taken as a trophy too. He doesn’t allow your kind, he loved me, so I’m alive. But you’ll be bones on the ground. Bones to be buried by the dogs, yes, the dogs.” Jeovi rants, pacing around the room and almost foaming at the mouth with fear. As Alex recalls her into the Pokéball, she silently promises to protect the insane fox.
It takes nearly four hours, but as the moving truck arrives, and the Machoke pick up all of their belongings, Alex, Saki, Jade, Arkanon and their Pokéball-dwelling teams are loaded into the truck and carted off to the Arceanus Manor on a small island near the Sky Pillar in the Hoenn Region. As the moving truck arrives on the island, teleported there by a team of Alakazam, Alex and Saki walk towards the mansion through the patches of cut grass. Jade fell asleep in the truck, so Saki recalled her, but Arkanon refuses to leave his mate's side. Alex is surprised when a young Pidgey startles from the grass, followed by a few Tailow and a Spearow.
"Hey, sis, I didn't know this island was even inhabited. I thought Mom and Dad only moved here to have access to Sky Pillar." Alex comments before being stopped by her sister.
"No, flying types frequently come here to rest. But a strange electric signal would pop up every time they tried to build on it. Mom thought that she could figure out why this island has a natural electric field running through it. It turns out somewhere in that mountain range on the back of the island, there's a Zapdos lair." Saki replies before producing the key for the manor from her pocket. As she opens the door, a chandelier flickers to life.
"Hey sis, does this place have motion activated lights?" Alex asks, her tail still puffed out behind her despite her attempt at threading the irritating appendage through her belt loops. As Saki turns to comment to her, the light in question slowly floats down from the ceiling and gives a haunting wail. Alex proceeds to jump several feet into the air while Arkanon, her loyal mate lets loose a fierce bark from her side, his collar translating it into a not-so-fierce string of unintelligible swearing. Saki sighs and takes her Pokédex out of her other pocket and holds it up.
Chandelure, the Luring Pokémon, Being consumed in Chandelure's flame burns up the spirit leaving the body behind to wander the world forever. Evolves from Lampent. This Pokémon is a ghost/fire type at level 15. This Pokémon is female.
"See, sis? It's just a Pokémon. Nothing to worry about, and you, should do a better job protecting my sister you big fluffy idiot." Saki replies, the last part directed with an icy glare to Arkanon, cowering behind Alex with a look of shame in his eyes. As she turns, Saki hears her sister muttering "My hero" under her breath, though whether to her or Arkanon she's unsure. As the sibling pair walks into the manor and begins exploring, they're met with a yelp from another Pokémon resident of the building.
"MIME!" The yelp startles Alex yet again, but this time she's able to get her breathing under control as she recognizes the figure as her mother's loyal Mr. Mime. As Alex squeaks and runs up to the old Pokémon the Mr. Mime in question hugs the girl and gently plants a kiss on her forehead like he used to when she was a child.
"Wow, I'm amazed you're still around." Saki mutters under her breath as she releases Jade from her Pokéball to avoid anymore unwanted interactions with potentially dangerous residents of the manor.
"So, we're here then Saki?" Jade yawns as she stretches gracefully, giving a slight twirl as she wakes up fully. Saki nods and gently runs a hand through Jade's hair before leading her off in search of a suitable bedroom. The Chandelure has decided to follow them to light the way, making her intentions known to the powerful Gardevoir. Alex, Arkanon, and the Mr. Mime are left in the middle of the living room to sort through the numerous boxes being unloaded by the Alakazam and Machoke.
"That should be everything, Miss. Where do you want the furniture for the bedrooms?" One of the Alakazam asks telepathically as he holds out a clipboard for Alex to sign. As she takes the pen and signs her name she looks up at the Pokémon.
"I don't know where Saki wants her stuff, but my furniture should go into the room on the second floor next to the greenhouse. The dog bed should go there too, but the kids' furniture should go in the room next to that." Alex comments, mentally noting that she wants Layla's room to be her own, not shared with Conleth and Cerberus. As the Alakazam teleports with the furniture into the rooms, Alex takes her kids' Pokéballs from her belt and releases them, Conleth staggering a little from the disorientation caused by stasis mode. Layla and Cerberus both exit their balls without any issues, but Alex picks Conleth up to help him avoid falling.
"Why do we have to be in Pokéballs, Momma? It's confusing when I get out." Conleth complains, his eyes observing his mother with a drowsy expression. As Alex gently ruffles her son's golden hair, Cerberus chooses that moment to tackle Layla to the ground, almost toppling the Mr. Mime.
"Mime, mime MIME MIME!" The Pokémon yells, Alex smirking as her children cower before the elder Pokémon as he scolds them.
"I'm sorry about my kids, Mimey. They are quite a handful sometimes." She apologizes in near-perfect Pokespeak.
"That's quite alright, Lex. I was unaware you had children already, your son looks almost human, that daughter of yours will be quite beautiful when she's grown. Your other son, however, needs to work on his manners." Mr. Mime replies, earning a nod from Alex as she glares at Cerberus, who merely smiles sheepishly at her. As Layla and Cerberus go running off to find their rooms, Conleth clings to Alex tightly, unwilling to let go for even a second. So they explore together, discovering the various rooms of the manor. Arkanon walks closely behind his mate, happy that the rooms and halls of this place are large enough to allow him to walk easily through without risking half the pictures hanging on the walls.
