Disclaimer: I do not own Trinity Blood, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Darkephoenix: Well, it figures he's not paying child support but he wants to be all involved with his kid. j/k. I try not to use it too much, but lordy if he isn't a hotbot ;) *hides in shame for making you wait so long and hides all your whips and chains too* I gave him a little kick, and I guess it worked. I've been dropping in to keep up with your story, even if I haven't kept up with mine *is a horrible authoress* Yeah, school blows. Finals three days in a work and work on all three days. I think I might die. I'm pretty sure. Good luck with the thesis! At least you're farther down the academic road! Read on and enjoy!
DarkCrusnikMagician: I'm glad you like the kids. I'm having a lot of fun with the intricacies (I don't think that's spelled right, but who cares) of their situation. Yeah, everyone's an auntie or uncle. I couldn't see the wannabe tres's ass! It was blocked by the side of the truck! The kids are going to be around, now that they're here, for a while, so I'm glad you like them! We'll be moving on with Abel and Alex soon, because even I can't handle the tension all the damn time. Read on and enjoy!
winterfrau: Complications always abound, and I've got a strange way of working it out in the end. Yeah, Cendricus is kinda like... unintentionally bastardized in this story, I feel bad for him too. I'm sorry to say I still disagree with your point on labeling things like chuckles and laughs as disturbing or frightening. It's not only a reflection of the opposite character's interpretation. As I've stated before, I write from the third person, as if everyone in the audience were watching a play. If I want you to feel a certain way about a person or action, that's how I describe it. Perhaps it is cliche, but a crusnik laughing at you while you are utterly immobilized, and a crusnik that's usually melancholy and completely un-intimidating, might be seen as a little disturbing. While I don't use this phrasing much, I can't guaruntee that it won't be used again, because if that's how I want the scene to feel, that's how I'll write it. I'm sorry you don't feel it works.
Shade: *STEALS YOUR NAME!* Welcome to the story! I'm glad you've liked it so far. I must say I love hearing from new readers :> LOL I totally understand what you mean and thank you! I take it as a huge compliment! BUt I cannot tell a lie, I really like writing those scenes! ;) Hope you like reading them. LOL I don't HATE children... I just....want them gone....quickly...whenever they're near me. lol Thanks and keep reading and enjoying!
Astharoshe: Yeah, Alex just can't get a damn break, can she? ;)
Retro Lamb: Welcome back! Glad you like the children! I like them too ;) I've never heard that song, I'll have to look it up. Glad you've caught up! Read on and enjoy!
Wowza! Okay, now onto the good stuff. This is a cute short chapter, nothing too real in it, but it reveals something about my little Aurora that I just HAD to find a place for. I love my babies so much! I wish they were really mine, all housetrained and whatnot. lol Read on and enjoy!
Also, I've written up the first chapter of a crappy samurai champloo fic, but I'm too sissy to post it. Anyone wanna take a gander at it, and maybe if it doesn't suck too much I'll post it? Email me if you wanna read it!
Chapter 13: Mes Papillions
It had been three days since Alex’s run in with the RCO’s messengers and she hadn’t relaxed one bit. The only time she wasn’t with the children was late at night when they were asleep, making it difficult for Abel to have any time with the children or with her. He waited patiently, usually watching them interact from a short distance. Alex had developed a disheartening habit of starting every time she saw him watching, but did her best to sooth his hurt expression with a smile. He longed to get closer to the children, especially little Aurora, whose laugh was utterly infectious. He watched the children play, noticing that the boys were protective of Aurora, careful not to hurt her with their rough housing.
He chuckled to himself as Ilarius took off after Cendricus into the hedge maze in the garden following a hurtful quip about his intelligence, leaving Aurora behind with their Mother. She shrugged and crawled into Alex’s lap. Alex played with her daughter’s hair, smiling as she dozed in the afternoon sun. Alex looked up, searching for Abel, and waved him over. He shook his head, trying to decline politely.
“Come talk to her. It’s a rare opportunity.” Abel was flooded with a curiously warm feeling as Alex’s voice whispered through his mind. He approached quietly, watching as Aurora’s ears twitched, listening to his footsteps on the grass. Her eyes opened and she gazed up at him quizzically as he kneeled in front of her. The sleep was gone completely from her eyes and they roved over his face as though searching for his soul. He felt the distinct pressure of her probing his mind and he gave her the barest glimpse of his emotions for her, Alex, and the boys.
Aurora turned to look up at Alex questioningly and Alex gave a nod of encouragement. Aurora turned back towards Abel, still refusing to open up the lines of communication. Abel smiled his brightest smile and Aurora graced him with a small smile in return.
“Hello, Aurora.” Abel’s goofy tone was in place, but thankfully not as over-the-top as normal. Alex watched the exchange quietly, curious to see how it would unfold.
“Hello, Father Nightroad.” Her eyes fell back to scanning his face, stopping repeatedly on his silver hair.
“May I speak with you, Aurora?”
“Yes. You worked with Mommy and Daddy, right?”
“Yes, I did. We fight bad guys for Grandma.”
“Grandma’s got a nice office, and a big house.” Alex mouthed ‘theVatican’ behind Aurora’s head and Abel chuckled.
“Yes, Grandma’s house is very big.”
“Do you work with Uncle Tres and Uncle Leon too?”
“Yes, I do. Tres was my first permanent partner.”
“Permanent partner?”
“Yeah. Whenever I went on a mission for Grandma, Tres came with me.”
“Oh. Is he your partner now?”
“No, your Mother is my permanent partner now.” Aurora went quiet for a few moments, merely watching Abel as if she could learn some fascinating piece of information from the contours of his ageless face. She reached out tentatively and took a lock of his hair in her fingers, shifting it in the light.
“You have Ilarius’s hair.” Abel’s smile faded just a little and he remained quiet, looking to Alex for guidance.
“Chérie, remember when I told you that Ilarius and Cendricus were your brothers, but that Daddy wasn’t the boys’ daddy?” Aurora turned to look at her Mother, a confused look twisting her features.
“Yes.”
“Well, Father Nightroad is their Daddy.” Alex smiled comfortingly as her daughter’s face crumpled into a terrible look of confusion and pain.
“You’re Ilarius and Cendricus’s Daddy?” Aurora turned toward Abel, almost accusingly, to verify her Mother’s strange proclamation.
“Yes, Little One.”
“But you’re not my Daddy?” Abel’s brows knit and he looked at her a little sadly.
“No, Little One. I’m not lucky enough to be your Daddy. Hugue was your Daddy. That’s where your beautiful hair comes from.” Aurora fell silent again, processing his words.
“How can they be my brothers then?”
“Because I am your mother, Chérie. I had to leave Abel and Grandma for a while and your Father and I had you while I was away.”
“Oh.” She sat in quiet contemplation for some minutes. “We’re still a family, right?”
“Yes, Chérie. We will always be a family.”
“Is Father Nightroad in our family?” Aurora turned, once more, to look at her Mother. Alex looked to Abel, who had dropped his gaze to the ground.
“Yes, Chérie, Abel is in our family too.” Alex touched her nose to her daughter’s and Aurora gave her a dimpled smile. She leaned in a whispered, loudly, to her Mother.
“Can I call him Abel?”
“Why don’t you ask him, Cherie?” Aurora looked from Alex to Abel, quiet for a moment before she could work up the courage to ask him.
“Can I call you Abel, Father Nightroad?” Abel chuckled at her quiet request. He took her little hand in his and gave it a quick kiss.
“You may call me Abel, if you wish, Aurora.” She grinned at him, her eyes straying to his hair again.
“You have a rumbly laugh.” Alex stifled a snicker and Abel chuckled again at Aurora’s odd observation.
“Is that bad?”
“No. I can just feel it when you laugh.” Abel couldn’t contain his grin as her face scrunched, her mind working for a good way to explain it. A few more moments of easy silence fell over the three before Aurora piped up again, leaning forward to lift Abel’s glasses off his face. She watched his pupils readjust to focus on her properly.
“Are you like us?” Her question was hushed and the intensity in her gaze seemed to pierce him in a way very similar to her Mother’s methods.
“Yes, Little One, I am.”
“What color are your wings?”
“They’re black.” Abel tucked his glasses into a pocket as Aurora played with the cross dangling from his priest’s collar.
“Then you must be the boys’ Daddy!” Aurora seemed to be utterly preoccupied with the many metal clips of his uniform.
“What do you mean, Little One?” Abel questioned her as she clambered into his lap.
“Both Cendricus and Ilarius have black wings, silly!” Abel, never having heard of any of the children’s Crusnik forms before, was shocked to find that both boys shared a trait he possessed, and Cain did not.
“Is this true?”
“Cendricus!” Aurora looked around Abel before Alex could reply, causing him to turn and search for the subject of her attention. The boys stood side by side, they hair mussed and their clothes askew. Ilarius looked at Abel with a rather neutral expression, but Cendricus was glaring daggers at the man. Abel was taken aback by how very much he looked like a young Cain when he adopted that expression.
“Hello, boys.”
“Father.” Ilarius inclined his head respectfully, but Cendricus bared his teeth angrily.
“Stay away from Aurora.”
“Forgive me for intruding on your time, boys. I was merely chatting with her, but she’s all yours now!” Abel’s glasses found their way back to his nose and Ilarius watched hopefully as Abel rose to his feet.
“You’re not leaving, are you, Father?” The tone in Ilarius’s voice led Abel to believe that ‘Father’ was less of his title as a Vatican priest and more a title as the boy’s biological Father.
“Of course he is! This is our time with mom and Aurora!” Cendricus’s tone was more aggravated than the situation warranted and Alex grew annoyed at his lack of manners.
“Cendricus!” Though Alex hadn’t raised her voice much above its normal volume, Cendricus flinched as though she’d shrieked quite loudly.
“Yes, Mother?”
“Apologize.”
“B--”
“Now.”
“Forgive me, Father Nightroad. I was rude.” Cendricus ground out the canned apology from between gritted teeth and Abel waived his hands in surrender.
“Not at all. I was intruding. You boys have fun with Aurora and Alex and I will see everyone at dinner!” Abel turned to book a hasty retreat, but a small hand stayed his progress as it tugged on the leg of his uniform.
“Wait!” Aurora was looking up at him with huge puppy dog eyes. Abel, unable to resist her charms, smiled and kneeled down to speak with her.
“Yes, Little One?”
“You didn’t ask what color my wings are.” Aurora’s lip pushed forward into a tremendously adorable pout and Abel chuckled his deepest rumbling chuckle.
“My apologies, mademoiselle! What color are your wings?” Aurora was grinning as Abel finished his question. She closed her eyes tightly and clasped her hands together as though she were praying. In the next moment, two tiny pairs of wings sprouted from her back. Her wings were similar in structure to butterfly wings, with a superior pair and an inferior pair, yet they were veined and opalescent like dragonfly wings. Each wing shone in the bright sun, twinkling with all the colors of the rainbow. Aurora was grinning up at him expectantly, and Abel actually found himself speechless.
“Don’t you like them?” Aurora’s pout returned, as well as the puppy dog eyes, which were now brimming with tears of disappointment.
“They are beautiful, Aurora! I’m speechless. How unique!” Abel turned her gently, the better to examine the splendid appendages. “Can you actually fly with them?”
“Yes!” Aurora beamed, thrilled with his response. She began flapping her wings and they took on a speedy cadence, much like insect wings. Slowly but surely she lifted herself into the air, giggling at Abel’s slack-jawed expression. Abel stood and watched as she hovered for a moment before settling down gently on Cendricus’s shoulder, her bright smile in sharp contrast to his dark glare.
“They’re absolutely marvelous, Aurora. I’ve got to go now, but I’ll see you all at dinner.” Aurora waved as Abel turned to leave. He could still feel Cendricus’s eyes boring into the back of his head as he rounded the corner.
