Shade and Gertrude sat on lounge chairs. It was really amazing how their trip had turned out.
Shade had expected the ship to be a cargo ship. Had expected to work. It was kindnof a cargo ship, but there were passengers, such as herself and Gertrude.
The people aboard the ship were not what she had expected. Smugglers mostly.
The only real cutthroat she had met was the absent Sunny. No one really looked for him and his pokemon stayed in his cabin. Some worked as part of the crew, others worked out a way to get home to the wild where they had been caught.
Sunny's cargo had been broken into. No one really knew what to do with it, so Shade bought it. Having skills with tech it was a no brainer. As a bonus, the small crate in the corner, also having belonged to Sunny, was full of laptops. Obvious counterfiets, but decent quality.
Soon she and Gertrude had a computer gaming system hooked up and free internet provided from hacked satelites. One of the men aboard actually had been a programmer, back in the day, but he still had skills. The price of his service was a laptop.
Shade took inventory of the contraband. All of looked highly advanced. Cutting edge stuff that even Birch and Right Co. didn't have access to. The marking stamped on the side was no indication, but the pictures on the laptop backgrounds, they were from Sinnoh.
Another thing Shade had found, along with Gertrude, was porn. Undetground porn. Trainers with pokemon, underage trainers making extra money after bad losses, people who just enjoyed it and got paid for what they enjoyed.
Of course, both of them admitted that they had no real use for the content, but they kept watching for a while.
"Shade?"
Shade looked over at her partner.
"Can we..." Gertrude motioned towards their cabin while bitting her bottom lip a little.
Shade stood and took Gertrude's hand. They walked briskly anf opened the door only to back out and close the door.
"Okay, we saw that, right?" Gertrude asked. Shade nodded.
Broken had been atop a Gothitelle. Thrusting in and out of her expertly.
"She is NOT prettier than me!" Gertrude looked to Shade.
"You think we need a strap on thingy?" Shade asked. Sha hadn't even heard the dark Gardevoir's comment. "I mean, what is it like. Is it cold?"
"Shade, what are you talking about?" Apparently Gertrude was still dwelling on the idea of Broken and a stranger using her bed to have some fun.
"What... what were you talking about?" Shade asked carefully.
"Do you think that Gothitelle is prettier than me?"
"Gertrude, I don't think anyone is prettier than you." The pokemom member of the couple smiled sweetly. "Want to go play cards? The room is taken."
Rather than hang out with the crew, that had a lot of work today anyway, the duo joined the high class players on the upper decks.
They took a look at Shade and turned their noses up.
"How on Earth did that girl get in here?" One woman asked her friends.
"Ignore them." Gertrude told the young lady.
"Hey, arm candy!" Shade called getting the group's attention. "Hey, good to see you know what you are. Means you're smart enough to breath on your own." She added as they turned to look. "Any way." She took a couple glasses of wine as the server passed by, handing one to Gertrude. "Unlike you, I have my own money and I have brains. So shut your yap and go back to drinking that wine on your hubby's dime."
"It's champagne!" A younger one in the group said as if she were disproving Shade's comment about their intelligence.
"If it comes from the region of the same name. Other than that it is sparkling wine." Shade took a sip, tilted her hat and linked arms with Gertrude. "Good day, ladies. Remember to breath." She said sickly sweet as they walked away, leaving the group of trophy wives silent and seething as they did.
To say the least she them made no friends in that particular group, but she and Gertrude were approached by others as they sat down.
"I have never seen Vivian LeRouge so angry that she couldn't speak!" A pretty, but too chubby to be one of the snobs near the door, woman said with delight as she took an open seat. "Grace Haul!" She held her hand out and Shade shook it.
"You look familiar." Shade said as she let Grace's hand loose.
"I have a small cooking show." Grace said as if she was embarassed. "Where are my manners?" Grace motioned to the other two women that sat down with her.
The first was a younger woman with short black hair. It was apparent that she was in good shape but her nose was a little crooked though it didn't take away from her beauty. "Mindy Dawnstone, she owns a chain of fitness centers in Johto. Did wonders with her husband, he's the sweetest guy! He's the model that they use in the ads." Mindy blushed lightly and waved shyly.
The second woman was also younger, but blonde, and she had gap in her front teeth, but she at least took care of them. She was more of a model in looks herself. "This is Wanda Suthers, her family has money. Heaven knows why she is excluded from their little circle over there." Grace waved dismissively at the snobs.
"I s-st-stutter. My t-t-teeth. I d-d-don't like being mean t-t-to people." Wanda quickly filled in.
"All I can say is that the one who tried to correct my girl on the champagne looks like her husband went slumming and brought her back from the trailer park." Gertrude spoke up.
Everyone laughed.
"I'm sorry, I almost forgot my own manners." Shade placed a hand on Gertrude's shoulder. "This is Gertrude and I'm Shade."
"Interesting name, Shade, is that your last name?" Grace asked.
"Just what I prefer to be called."
The topic quickly changed to Gertrude's outfit, she was wearing her viel and gloves, so they thought that she was a human. A small fact that Shade and Gertrude laughed about.
After some small talk and some customary Q & A to learn about eachother the crowd died down a little. Shade and Gertrude moved to the poker tables.
"Oh, you play?" Grace asked taking a seat.
"Gertrude does. I watch."
"Me too, hon." Grace told Shade. "Good luck, Gurdy!" Grace patted Gertrude's arm.
And then the bitches showed up. Their husbands took seats at the table, except Vivian who sat in her own spot at the table. "Oh joy, the new money is here to play." She announced.
"New money." Shade almost slipped and gave up her mother's last name. "I might know and enjoy the simple things, but I can go back to the founding of no less than four major cities and sixteen major businesses! Not to mention I'm working on making my own way."
"And how do you plan on doing that?" Vivian sneered.
"Well, unlike you, I still have time to decide." Shade pulled the money for the game from her pocket. "I've been working at improving as a trainer. Gertrude and I had apprenticed with a pokemon professor. We've done construction. I worked at an engineering and tech company while she improved in the private security sector." Shade stare the woman in the eye as she spoke. "It's good to have options other than 'i am pretty and i got a man' you know." Shade smiled cheekily then turned to her and Gertrude's new friends. "So, your husbands gamble?"
"Martin, he loses a few thousand then we go to bed." Grace said and pointed to a short and stout man with greying hair. "He keeps up appearances with the boys."
"Mine d-d-doesn't play. I just like t-t-to watch." Wanda informed.
"Tell us about how you met Gertrude?" Grace asked.
"She literally fell into my arms!" Shade said with a big smile.
"So romantic!" Grace gushed.
"Not at the time." Shade spoke up. She could feel Gertrude smirking in her direction. "We've known eachother for a long while now. Things... developed."
"Sounds like me and my husband. We had the same home economics class. He was prepairing to be a bachelor permanetly, we got paired together for an assignment. He was such a gentleman and he did his part of the work too!"
"Are you praising me, dear?" Came a nasal voice from the chair in front of them.
"You know I am, Marty!" She put her arms around him and nuzzled his cheek, making Martin smile with pride.
"Martin tried having his own business after school but in the end he sold it and returned to his family farm." She giggled. "He was so afraid that I would leave him but I proved him wrong!"
"She pulls all of her weight and makes the most delicious meals!" Martin licked his lips and patted his stomach.
There was a hushed comment about there being a lot of weight for her to pull, but the table chose to ignore it as the cards were passed out.
"You know, Gertrude and I kept a small garden of berries as well as a planter box of herbs and spices. Would you mind if we visit the farm to learn about farming a bit more?" Shade asked.
"Oh that would be wonderful!" Grace fished a card from her pocketbook. "Here, you must absolutely look us up when you're un town!" She placed a hand on Wanda's knee. "We girls all get together at Mindy's gym you can't miss it! It's right next to the best flower shop in Bloomingville!"
"I remember that place!" Shade got excited. "My mom wanted a Sunflora! We spent days out there trying to catch one." Shade turned from the table to comfort Shade as she felt the trainer's mood turn.
"Shade, hon, what's wrong?" Grace asked with concern.
"Her mother... died when she was young." Gertrude clarified. "She's never really dealt with it."
Grace was about to comment but Gertrude shook her head no and the chef changed the subject. "So where are you from?"
"Around. I don't actually know what city the family home is in. I lived with my adopted parents until... well... they passed too. I became a trainer after that. Been looking for home ever since."
"Oh, well, I am sure you will find it soon. You and Gertrude both!" Grace smiled sweetly and the conversation petered out as the cards were dealt again.

"I would really like to know where he finds these females."
"Looking on trading me in, Gertrude?"
"No! You're perfect." Shade smiled. "Cards again?"
"Yeah." Shade took a look back at Broken and his catch of the day. A very cutely made up Mienshao who happened to be on top. "We should just ask him some day."
As they entered the casino tables area in the upper decks, Shade smiled as she heard Vivian. "That damn Machoke was off with my pokemon again!"
"What kind of pokemon?" Gertrude asked.
"Wouldn't you like to know!" Vivian had an attitude with them ever since Gertrude drained her alotted ammount of throw away money the past few nights.
"And I thought you money types just loved to show off your precious, rare pokemon."
"My Gothitelle!" Vivian yelled. "If the little whore is pregnant... I'll... I'll..."
"Trade her for a pokemon that won't sleep with a common Machoke?"
"EXACTLY!" Vivian shouted, pointing a finger at Shade and Gertrude.
"What if I said that Machoke was part of my team?" Shade asked.
"Is that brute part of your team?" Vivian asked shakily.
"For the record, that Machoke probably has more money than you." Shade laughed when Vivian started to retort. "Please, you've got hubby's money. It isn't yours until he's dead."
Vivian growled and stormed off.
"We'll take that Gothitelle!" Gertrude called.
"Were you not worried about her earlier on?"
"Broken deserves love too." Gertrude pinched Shade's bottom. "Come on, the girls are waiting."
1/6/2011
"Land!" Shade dove into the sand. "Oh I missed you!"
"She really likes land." Grace laughed.
"Take care of Gothitelle for Broken." Gertrude told Grace.
"I will. I'll give her a more loving home than Viv ever did." Grace frowned. "To sell her for money just because she was being a living creature. Having fun!"
"Hey, mind if we drop by the farm now? Broken would really like to spend time with her and Meinshao."
"Hard to believe these two are willing to share." Martin held up his new pokeball with Mienshao in it. "Mr. LeRouge was just as ready to make the trade."
Just then Broken walked down the gangplank.
"Hey, when we get to the farm, we have a surprise for you!" Gertrude hopped on Broken's back and put him in a playful choke hold. He didn't react, just lumbered to the car and let her in.
A short, quoet ride to the trainstation, Broken's bad mood had really stopped conversation. He stare out the window until they stopped. Unloaded the luggage then got in his ball.
"Well, we can still surprise him." Shade said putting the ball in her pocket. She had slipped on her favorite jacket without thinking and now everyone at the station stared at her.
Shade looked at the faces then down at her shirt. "What? I got it from a friend." She stated to the masses then boarded the train.
Grace and Martin sat quietly opposite Shade and Gertrude. They lokked like they wished to talk about something but in the end they had given up trying to bring it up.
"Our roommate in Hoenn, Cassidy, she gave it to me. She moved back to Kanto." Shade played witht the zipper. "I never had a jacket before. Don't really use one. She said looking at me without one made her cold." Gertrude nodded. "She bought a lot of stuff at thrift stores. I didn't have a job at the time, and I used to partake in the underground fights to help pay for my half of the rent, utilities, food."
"So, you don't have money?" Their cabin door was open, and lo and behold, Vivian herself stood in the hall outside of their door.
"I have money, I just wanted to make it my way. Not having to rely on my family." Shade said defensively.
Martin casually reached over and slid the door shut. "My business was a failure. The second business failed. The third, failed." He put his arm around Grace. "My marriage is the best thing that ever happened to me, but the second best is taking over the family farm! My marriage gave me three wonderful children and the farm gives me something to leave to them!" He pecked Grace's cheek. "It is never easy, but you never know what will work for you."
"I used to work in a bookstore. Then I got fired. So I got a job at a pokemart." Grace rolled her eyes as Martin took her line of 'she got fired' he said. "Yes, I got fired. Then I tried a clothing store. Apparently being a bit too big to wear the clothes they offered... well, I got fired. They said laid off, but I knew I wasn't coming back." She blushed and Shade and Gertrude noticed that Martin's hand had disappeared from around her and was nowhere to be seen. Grace continued on. "I started going to the gym, I really did get in shape, and I met Mindy. Mindy just explained that this was my body type, and referred me to Wanda. Did I mention that Wanda owns a beauty salon?" Shade shook her head no. "Well, she does. A small makeover and I got a few dates. I had, however, met my best friends, and after making them lunch one day, Mindy suggested that I become a chef. So, culinary school, Martin, cooking show." She smiled. "You'll find your place, hon, both of you!"
"I know we will!" Gertrude said happily. "Shade, I'd like to look around the train. Walk with me?" Shw pulled Shade to her feet and they exited the cabin, Gertrude giving the two an OK gesture as she closed the door. "They needed alone time." Gertrude informed as they walked towards the dining car. "And I want icecream!"
