Aster waved goodbye to her sister as she left the house with Mamoru, bound for Chiba. In the three weeks since Aster had bonded to Haruka and Sean, she and Akari had engaged in many conversations about Mamoru and Usagi.
Aster knew that her sister was very much in love with Mamoru, but both sisters also knew that it was his destiny to marry Usagi. Also, Mamoru was ignorant of his true identity as Akari’s brother. His physical resemblance to Takara’s brother, Kento, left no doubt in either of their minds.
Akari had secured a copy of her brother’s birth certificate, and the sisters had compared the fingerprints on it to some fingerprints they had lifted from a glass during one of Mamoru’s visits. Any kind of physical relationship with Akari was absolutely impossible. They had broken enough of the current society’s rules by having an affair.
Akari wanted to be the one to show Mamoru the rest of his heritage. Aster and Akari had grown up, knowing that Takara controlled a company in Chiba in the name of his brother, Kento. The company knew that Kento was dead, but they did not know where Kento’s heir was.
The two sisters had taken a trip to Chiba in the previous week, and they had provided proof of their identities to the Board, and then told them that they knew where Kento’s son was. The Board was overjoyed to find out that the boy had survived the crash that had killed his parents and younger brother, and they were anxious to see him. They had never liked working for Takara, and they had done everything in their power to make sure that he did not receive the full owner’s share of the profits that he tried to claim.
Akari was determined to change that. She and Aster were going to furnish the house next to the one the Kishi were living in, and give it to Mamoru and Usagi as a wedding present. Right now, she was taking him, without telling him anything, out to meet the Board of Directors of the company, and start to arrange the legal change of ownership. Mamoru had no idea that Akari knew who his parents were, or that she was his sister.
Akari was ungainly in the latter stages of her pregnancy, and she had agreed to wait until after she had given birth to enroll in a university in Tokyo to finish her education and get her degree in Seismology.
When the car had disappeared down the street, Aster went to gather the girls and take them into downtown. It was time to start preparing Usagi for her wedding, and the first step in that was to get the gown started.

Once Akari and Mamoru arrived in Chiba, she refused to answer any questions, and parked in front of an office building with a smile on her face. She gave her keys to a parking attendant who bowed to her, called her ‘Akari-sama’ and promised her that he would take excellent care of her car.
Once inside the building, they were met by the chairman of the Board, and they were escorted to the building’s penthouse, where Mamoru and his parents had lived until the accident.
In the penthouse, Mamoru looked around first in awe, and then in recognition.
“Akari,” he murmured. “I know this place.”
“I was hoping you might, Mamo-chan,” she said. “This is the apartment where you and your parents lived until they died in the accident that deprived you of your memories.”
“How do you know?” he asked, looking at her.
“Aster was intrigued by your resemblance to my stepfather’s brother,” Akari explained. “We got a copy of Uncle Kento’s son’s birth certificate, and a fingerprinting kit. We dusted a glass of yours for fingerprints, and we were both surprised and shocked when the fingerprints were a nearly perfect match for one another.”
“What are you saying?” Mamoru asked her.
“The company that owns this building was started by my stepfather’s brother,” Akari told him. “It was owned in full by him, and after his death, my stepfather started claiming the owner’s share of the profits. The Board did everything they could to stop him, including getting a court order to hold three-quarters of the owner’s share in trust for Kento’s son, since his body was not found. Now, that share, and the income from the company, will be handed over to you, Mamo-chan, as Kento’s son.”
“Are you sure?” Mamoru asked.
“I am very sure, my brother,” Akari said, stepping away from him slightly. “I have been sure ever since Aster and I checked your fingerprints. You see, the man who adopted me was my father’s brother. I could have claimed this, but I have no need of it, and you do. You have a beautiful woman to marry, and now you can, with the income you will have from the company.”
“She speaks the truth, Mamoru-sama,” the man with them said. “You look exactly like your father. Even without Akari-sama and Aster-sama bringing me the fingerprints last week, I would have no doubts that you are Kento-sama’s son. You have your mother’s eyes, but you are in all other ways your father’s son.”
“This is amazing,” Mamoru said. “This is going to take some getting used to.”
“We understand that, Sama,” the man said. “For now, the Board will continue to run the company as we always have. Once we have gone to court and had you officially recognized as the owner of the company, we will show you how all of the company is run, and teach you everything you need to know about it.”
“I haven’t even finished school yet,” Mamoru said. “I don’t have time to run a company.”
“Another alternative is the one that Takara preferred, due to his distance,” the man said. “You could allow us to continue to run the company, and simply collect your share.”
“I can’t do that,” Mamoru said. “That would be irresponsible.”
“You could spend part of your time here,” the man said. “You could learn part time while you finish your education.”
“That’s an idea,” Mamoru said. “Lets get this taken care of.”
“I have the papers ready,” he said. “Once you sign them, we will file the papers with the court, and they will set a date for an appearance, but it’s only a formality.”
“Okay,” Mamoru said. He followed the man to a table set up in the penthouse, where there were several official-looking documents, and a pen waiting.
Mamoru silently signed all of the papers, looking each one over before he signed it. He smiled at the chairman while the man congratulated him. He continued to smile through a quick tour of the offices, and lunch with all of the executives.
They were escorted by the entire board back to Akari’s car, and the executives waited while they drove away.
“Remind me to thank Aster,” Mamoru said. “When were you going to tell me I was your brother?”
“We only confirmed it last week,” Akari said. “We moved on everything as quickly as possible.”
“Just remind me to thank her,” he said.

When they reached the House of the Sun, Mamoru got out of the car before Akari had turned it off, and he headed to the house. Akari followed him, wondering why he was so eager to talk to Aster.
Aster was in the back yard, pruning a rose bush that she would not allow anyone else to touch. She was hoping that working in the bright sunlight would get rid of the low-grade headache that she had been experiencing on a mostly constant basis ever since Sean had become part of her life. She looked up when Mamoru came around the side of the house, but stopped her greeting when she saw the expression on his face.
He looked furious.
Before Aster could ask what was wrong, a ball of black fire appeared in Mamoru’s hand and he threw it at her.
Aster hastily erected a shield that absorbed the black fire. She was shocked beyond words at the radical change in Usagi’s beloved, and even more shocked that he seemed to possess the same Dark Kingdom powers that she did.
“You did this on purpose!” he bellowed, manifesting another ball of black fire.
“What are you talking about, Mamoru?” she asked.
“You took Akari to Chiba!” he raged. “You told her I was her brother! You did this to take her away from me!”
“I did no such thing!” Aster told him. She concentrated on her henshin wand and she felt a weight settle into her pocket.
“You did!” he snarled, throwing the second ball of fire. “You wanted to keep her away from me, so you made up all of this!”
“Mamoru, no!” Akari came around the corner of the house.
He whirled around to face Akari, another ball of black fire in his hand.
Aster took advantage of his distraction to pull her henshin wand out of her pocket.
“Solar Cosmic Power Transform!”
Mamoru turned around to find himself facing Sailor Sol.
“Do you think that’s going to stop me?” he snarled at her.
“No,” she said simply. “I simply have more power to defend myself in this form. I’m not going to fight with you, Mamoru. The idea to go to Chiba was Akari’s. She pointed out that if you had the income from the company, you wouldn’t have to worry about how you were going to support Usagi. Akari thought this would make you happy.”
“You’re lying!” he raged. “You did this to separate us!”
“I couldn’t separate you two with a crowbar,” Sol said. “You are planet partners. It is your misfortune that this society does not work like the Silver Millennium. Your relationship is what makes her forbidden to you, not my actions.”
“I’m not going to stop until you’re gone!” he shouted.
“Mamo-chan!” Usagi’s voice cut into the conversation.
Both combatants turned to face her, flanked by Haruka and Minako. The other three girls were behind them.
Without even hesitating, Sol dropped to one knee.
“My apologies, Princess,” she said. “I took no active part in this conflict. I defended myself from Endymion’s attack, and that is all.”
“I know that,” Usagi said. “Mamo-chan, she would never deliberately do something to make you miserable, and she definitely wouldn’t do something that would make her sister unhappy. When were you going to tell me, Mamo-chan? Were you going to keep it a secret forever?”
“I didn’t want to hurt you,” Mamoru said. The black fire in his hand faded somewhat.
“You could have told me the truth,” she told him, tears trickling down her face. “I would have understood you falling in love with someone else. I’ve always known I wasn’t good enough for you.”
“I love you, Usa-chan,” Mamoru said. “I just love Akari, too. I didn’t know why at first. I didn’t want to lose you, but I don’t think I can live without her.” The black fire in his hand faded completely as he crumpled to his knees and bowed his head.
“Aster did not confirm your identity to hurt you, Mamo-chan,” Akari said quietly in the silence that followed. “She did it to satisfy her curiosity, and then we thought that this would make it easier for you to ask Usagi to marry you.”
“Mamo-chan?” ChibiUsa’s voice made Mamoru raise his head and look into the tear-filled pink eyes of his future daughter.
“Don’t you want to marry Usagi?” she asked him, her voice quavering.
“Now look what you’ve done, you selfish bastard,” Haruka said coldly. “Now ChibiUsa thinks you don’t want her to even exist. Now how do you feel?”
“I never wanted to hurt anyone,” Mamoru said, his shoulders heaving. “I thought that no one would get hurt if I was careful.”
“That’s the thing about lies, Mamoru,” Minako said. “After a while, you can’t remember which ones you’ve told to whom. Usagi would have found out sooner or later, and you have Aster to thank for Usagi’s restraint. Aster’s been helping Usagi learn how to be an adult, and she’s the reason that Usagi’s not hysterical.”
“It’s all her fault!” he screamed. He manifested another ball of black fire and threw it at Sailor Sol, his face a mask of rage.
Caught off guard, Sol did not have the shield ready to absorb the attack and it hit her full-force. She was thrown across the yard and came to rest in the playground she had put in for ChibiUsa, boneless and still.
Mamoru’s face drained of all color when he saw the limp form of the most powerful of the Senshi. He leaped to his feet and ran over to her.
Usagi and the other girls beat him to her.
Usagi lifted Sol’s unconscious form into her lap and started patting her cheek, trying to wake her.
Mamoru was intercepted in his path to the playground by two Kishi, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, so abrupt was their appearance.
He was lifted off of his feet by Kishi Saturn, while Kishi Sol held his mace at Mamoru’s throat.
“I don’t care who you are,” the Knight of the Sun said coldly. “If she’s dead, so are you!”
“She can’t be dead!” ChibiUsa declared, running over to grab at Kishi Sol’s cape. “I saw her in the room under the palace! She has to be there! You’re all there! My father showed me! Pluto gave her a message!”
A soft groan from the playground made all of them turn to look. Saturn dropped Mamoru to approach the gathered knot of Senshi and put a hand on Haruka’s shoulder.
Sailor Sol was sitting up, one hand to her head, her eyes tightly shut.
“Ow,” she moaned. “Dammit, Mamoru, did you have to hit me like that? I already had a headache. I really didn’t need a worse one.”
“I was angry,” he said. He walked over to kneel at her feet. “I’m so sorry, Aster. I never should have thought that you would do something so mean-spirited. I never, in my wildest dreams, thought that I still had the powers that I gained in the Dark Kingdom!”
“I know, Mamoru,” Sailor Sol said. She flailed around with her other hand until it encountered the gauntleted hand of her planet partner. She leaned heavily on him while she pulled herself to her feet. She wavered for a few moments, and then gave him a small smile.
“No permanent damage done,” she said. “I guess I’m lucky that I was transformed. I probably wouldn’t have survived it as an ordinary human.”
“I would not wager on that,” another voice entered the conversation.
All of them whirled to face the speaker.
Kunzite stepped out of the shade of a large tree.
“I told you that I would always come if you were in true danger,” he said. “I am still searching for Takara. I cannot stay. I can see that you are no longer in danger. As for what you said, now that you have the powers from the Dark Kingdom, you are not truly an ordinary human.”
“Are you expecting me to believe I’m part oni, now, Kunzitosama?” Sailor Sol asked, smiling at him.
“Not exactly,” he said, returning her smile. “The infusion of power makes you more resilient and quicker to heal. I must go, Hoshiko.”
“I know,” she said. “What I said last time still stands. I miss you.”
“When my task is done,” he said. “I will come.”
He disappeared in a flash of light.
“When were you going to tell us about him?” Mamoru asked.
“I think you’re the only one that doesn’t know, Mamoru,” Haruka said. “The girls and I spied on a meeting she had with Kunzite, and we know she’s seen him a few times since then.”
“More like a few dozen,” Makoto said, blushing. “If every man paid that kind of attention to just kissing, the world would be full of sex-obsessed women.”
“You mean it’s not?” Minako said, her face a mask of innocence.
“I think I need to sit,” Sailor Sol said. “I don’t dare change back until my head stops spinning.”
“I think I can help with that,” Kishi Saturn handed his halberd to Kishi Sol and took Sailor Sol’s face in his hands. They briefly glowed purple, and then he released her.
“Much better,” she said, reaching for her tiara. “Thank you, Saturn.”
“I live to serve,” he said, bowing. He reclaimed his halberd and dropped it to the ground, transforming back into Sean O’Connell at the same time that Sol removed her tiara and became Aster again.
