A Valentine Not So Cherished
Title: A Valentine Not So Cherished
Author: Jigoku no Miko
Author’s Quote: It is that of unshed tears that litter the ground of sadness
Miaka and Kana both returned to the Yuki’s apartment, Keisuke already had a meal set up for Miaka. Miaka immediately began to chow as Kana stood at the window staring at the moon as Keisuke had done when he had been hoping for all three girls safety.
“Hey.” Keisuke whispered while she played with the feather earring, it was than she remembered the box Tokaki and Subaru had given her, turning she went inside and sat down on the couch before pulling the small box out of her pocket. “What’s that?” Keisuke questioned eyeing the box intrigued.
“Subaru gave it to me.” Kana whispered before opening it, a folded piece of paper fluttered to the ground before Kana gasped at the beautiful ring in the box. It looked like white gold, a small white stone was in the middle of it, at least she thought it was a stone. Picking up the piece of paper off of the ground she unfolded it and read it to herself before gasping.
“What does it say?” Keisuke questioned.
“Not always can something you love be left behind that is why I am bestowing upon you this gift, it is not a stone in the middle of this ring put a splinter of one of Byakko’s claws. It alone has the power to transfer you back into the “Universe of the Four Gods”, think thoroughly before using it’s power for it’s outcome could turn your world upside down if the book is in the right hands. I am sorry Byakko no Miko Kanashimi, love always Subaru and Tokaki.” Kana read the letter out loud leaving out the small section at the bottom that said the spell to activate the ring afraid it would take her into the book. Miaka went walking past them a moment later yawning.
“Oyasumi Anaki, oyasumi onesan.” Miaka whispered the last part before retreating down the hallway and into her bedroom. Kana sat there in shock for a moment before Keisuke let out a light laugh.
“It reminds me of Yuiren, that’s what Tamamhome’s little sister used to call Miaka was Onesan.” She whispered before Keisuke sat down next to her and dropped his arm around her shoulder. Kana eyed his hand for a moment before putting her hand over his and giving it a light squeeze. Suddenly Keisuke stood and walked into the kitchen to get something, Kana stayed on the couch and heard a drawer open and shut before Keisuke returned with a small pink paper package and sat next to her.
“Here, I was going to give it to you earlier but you disappeared.” He whispered handing the package to her.
“What is it?” She questioned flipping the small package over in her hand.
“Open it.” Keisuke commanded before she tore off the paper and opened the box only to find her locket.
“Where did you find this?” She questioned.
“Miaka brought it back with her, it was in pretty bad shape and the chain was missing so I got it fixed.” He explained as Kana took the locket out of the box and ran her finger over the engraving.
“Would you mind?” She questioned holding up the two ends of the clasp so Keisuke could fasten it around her neck for her. Keisuke took the two ends before Kana turned around and held her hair up, he clasped it quickly. Kana stood and walked over to the mirror by the door before examining the necklace and remembering when Hotohori had had it.
“I take it your going to head home huh?” Keisuke questioned standing and walking over to stand behind her.
“I guess I should.” She whispered before turning to face him but keeping her eyes to the floor. “I’ll see you later than?” She questioned rhetorically before opening the door.
“Bye.” Keisuke whispered before shutting the door and leaning against it. Kana stood in the hallway fiddling with her locket before shaking her head and wondering home in a half daze. The words Subaru had written kept playing over and over in her head like a broken record. ‘Not always can something you love be left behind…’ Before she knew it she was standing outside of her apartment door.
“But I belong here… don’t I?” She whispered to herself before entering her apartment and throwing her hoody on the couch. The box the ring was in tumbled out and rolled to her feet. Picking it up she opened the box and looked over the ring before taking it out and putting it on. The ring shone a bright white light before fading out completely. “Weirdness…” Kana muttered to herself before going into her bedroom and pulling out a leather bound book full of empty pages and drawing pencils. “I knew this thing would come in handy sooner or later…” she stared at the blank pages for a moment before beginning to sketch out all she could remember about their ways and dress. “…Maybe I can pull this off after all.” She whispered continuing to draw into the wee hours of the morning.

Within the next three days Kana had an entire new wardrobe and had donated or sold almost everything she owned exept for the bare essentials that were to go with her. Nobody, not even Dani knew what she had been up to, what she was planning on doing until now. She hung up the pay phone she had used to call Dani on and sighed, he was angry with her but she didn’t care, she didn’t feel right here anymore.
I am lost in see thru
I think you lost yourself too
Throughout all of this confusion
I hope I somehow get to you
Kana went back up to her apartment, well atleast it was her’s until the end of the night. She had already signed the lease over to a sweet couple. Packing up what was left of her belongings she went to the bathroom and changed her clothes, they were going to take a little bit of getting used to but she didn’t really mind. Looking around one last time she closed her eyes and focused on the sounds and smells one last time, she breathed deeply before someone knocked on her door making her jump.
“Shit… should’ve known.” She muttered before going over and opening it but to her surprise it wasn’t Dani at the door, it was Keisuke.
“Kana what are you doing?!” He yelled grabbing her by the shoulders. “Are you seriously just going to up and leave, without so muh as an explenation… or a goodbye…” Tears began to run down Keisuke’s face and she stared at him in shock. “You can’t leave Kana, you can’t…” He pulled her into his arms and held her close.
“Keisuke?” She whispered confused before he pulled away and looked at her.
“Can’t you tell that I’m in love with you!?” He said before kissing her fiecerly and passionately. Pulling away he held her close again. “You can’t leave Kana, you can’t…” She pulled away from him and placed her hand under his chin to raise his eyes to hers before smiling.
“I’m so sorry Keisuke, but I have to go it’s where I belong.” She smiled before taking off her locket necklace and fastening it around his neck. “You will always be one of my dearesr friends Keisuke, but I have to go, I’m so sorry. Goodbye.” She whispered before stepping back and picking up her bag. “Byakko, I Kanashimi summon your powers, open the seal, allow me passage into “The Universe of the Four Gods” one last time. Allow me a safe travel home…” She continued to speak as a white light eminated from the ring and engrossed her entire body. “…I, your priestess command you!”
“KANA!” Keisuke yelled as he covered his eyes from the blinding light, when he opened them she was gone. Falling to his knees he punched the floor.
“Dammit, why did you have to leave…” he whispered beginning to cry for a love he would never know.
