chapter 17
Arya knew exactly what it was. PTSD the humans called it. Post tramaic stress syndrom. She knew it wold take eraon many years to stop the involentary trembeling.
Arya went to sleep, letting her mind rest.
Arya was sitting at breakfast with eraon in her lap. The child was silent, and had’t spoken all morning. Arya held her in her lap she would draw her dagger whenever anyone would com to close, just to hae it in her hand to protect her child.
Arya watched as the queen approached. A serious look was on her face. She looked to arya dn to the silent child. She had dark circles under her eyes, and still her hair was messy and slightly unkept. She had a hollow look in her eyes, and her skin was pale and unhealthy.
“Oromis wishes to speak with you and eraon immidiately.” The queen said.
Arya looked up at her, she nodded slowly, and she nuzzed her cheek against the top of eraon’s head.
As they were done, arya stood and she went with the queen. They wen’t to the familiar ledge, and the queen turned to the small child who was holding onto arya.
“Eraon, listen carefully. You can never tell anyone what you are about to see. You must swear in the ancient language, and n doing so you will never be able to speak what you have sworn not to.” She said.
Eraon didn’t look at her, but she quietly nodded.
The queen spoke the words, and eraon quietly murmered them. Once they were satisfied, they looked out to the ledge and waited. Eraon was rested her head aganst arya’s neck, holding onto her tunic lightly.
With a gust of winds, they felt the approach of oromis. Plums of air coming and assulting their ears. Arya waited for eraon to grow scared but she didn’t she barely gave ay notice. The great gold dreagon settled and the elder elf stiffly slid down onto the ground below. His eyes immidiately fell on eraon, and his eyes grew somber. He walked up to the child. For the first time she looked up, she did nothing just stared. Gladre came up to her and eraon,a dn arya held the child close to her. The dragon lowered its head, so a great golden eye was level with her. Any other child would quiver in fear, however earon reached out a hand, not trembeling at all, and placed it on the great dragon.
“Gladre needs to take eraon with him.” Oromis said suddenly.
Arya placed a hand over eraon’s head protectivly, and turned away slightly.
“where? For how long?” arya asked quickly.
“Where only gladre knows, and hes says the trip is a long one.” Oromis said.
Arya was completely against eraon going off alone. She kissed the top of eraon’s head.
“I-I don’t know.” Arya said, she held eraon close, an took in a breath, smelling her child’s scent.
“Eraon what do you want?” arya asked.
Eraon was silent for a while. She looked to the large dragon. It straightened to its full heigth, which made him terrifying He streached his wings out, and bared its teeth.
“I’ll go.” She whispered.
Arya took a deeo breath She held her tightily in her arms, hugging her She felt a few tears escape her as she set down her child, and she kneeled down, and straightened her collar. She brushed the hair from her face, and cupped her cheek. She hugged her and kissed the top of her head.
“Its okay mommy.” Eraon whispered. She huged her tightly.
Arya stood, and eraon turned to the dragon, who leaned down once more. Eraon got on its back. Oromis watched solumly. The dragon took of wihta burst air and flew off the cliff. Arya watched and felt an emptyneed fill her. She as immiditaly irritable, and she felt worry consume her.
“she is safe with gladre, I assure you.” Oris said , drawing arya’s attention back to him. She nodded and watched and waited.
She and oromis were left as the queen departed. Arya sat down and stared out over the cliff waiting for her baby to come back. Oromis came and sat next to her.
“Don’t take her to Liztheene, she needs to stay here, in your home. But taking her to your mothers old place shall be good. She is confused right now arya, and scared. She is brave for such a young child, and she needs your support, it is amazing that you broke the curse.” He siad. Arya nodded distantly. She felt a few tears cascade down her cheeks.
“Have you told eragon?” he asked.
Arya felt a jolt of surprise rack her body. Eragon! She had totally forgotton about him. She knew that something like this would have a very powerful affect on him.
“No, but he is not obligated to know everything about my personal life. She said, wrather stiffly. Oromis nodded, letting the obviously tense matter go. Both elves fell silent. It was hours that they waited, the sun long setting. Arya grew tired, but she kept a watchful gaze on the cliff. Her body had arely moved in the past hours and she refused to clse her eyes. Suddenly oromis stood.
“They approach.” He said.
Arya watched as in the distance, the gleaming gold dragon approached.
Finally it landed, and arya rushed to its side as it leaned down. She saw her child, and she was asleep, curledup on the dragons back.
“I must see her on her twelth birthday.” The great dragon said. Arya nodded, as she picked up eraon. The sleeping girl shifted slightly, but let her head rest againt arya’s shoulder as she continued to sleep.
Arya held her close to her chest, and kissed the top of her head, taking in her light scent.
“She will heal in time arya. You must not allow anything to cloud your mind as before. Her future is up to you.’ The great dragon said as it lowered its head. Arya nodded as she held her sleeping child.
“You may go arya.” Oromis said. Arya nodded and took her child with her. She walked calmly through the city, savoring the fact that she had her child. She continuous pet her head, and had to re-assure herself that she was actually there. Arya made her way to her family’s home. She requested for supplies to be packed so they could depart the next day. Arya made her way to her room, and still holding eraon, she went about setting her sword bow and daggar aside, and packed clothing for both her and eraon. She sat down on her bed, and she looked at her little girl. She was reminded of faolin. Eraon was almost identical to her in every way. Pictures of arya as a child could very well be eraon. However she saw many similarities to faolin. There was a certain look in her eyes occassionally, one like only faolin would get.
Arya looked outside and saw the night sky. She sighed and she laid down in bed with eraon. She laid eraon down next to her, and she settled herself and she then pulled her close to her chest. She let herself sleep
You woke and you felt you were up against your mother. You nuzzled her side, and you rested your body, not asleep, but just dozing. You felt her wake, and you felt your limp body being pulled up onotp so you were resting on her chest. You snuggled down against her and you felt her stroking your hair.
After an hour or so, Arya got up and she went and washed herself and eraon. She dressed, then she sat eraon on a chair. She stood behind her and brushed her silky hair. Arya gently braided her hair then tied it off with a piece of string. She then stood with eraon hoding onto her side she packed herself up, getting their clothing together, and strapping her sword and bow ot her.
She had to have eraon walk, but she had her walk in front of her as they made their way down the may stairs. Arya made her way to the stables right outside of the house, and she set her bags by the horses. She saw the supplies she had requested had already been packed, and were ready to go.
“Let us go eat, then we shall go.” Arya said to her child. She went and picked up her child, and still she noted that eraon had not spoken. She sat down at the garden table, and eraon sat in her lap, and leaned back against her.
She put eggs on her plate, along with fruit, and toast with a rich jam. She had eraon eat some of the eggs, and the fruit, then coaxed her into a piece of toast as she herself ate.
“We have a long day of riding honey, please eat more than you normally would, for me.” Arya asked gently. She watched carefully as the child paused, then acutally finished the piece of toast she had been eating. Arya had her eat another, then a second helping of eggs. When she finished, she felt releaved that she had gotten enough in the little girl. She brushed eraon’s hair back and kissed the top of her head.
Arya got up and she went with eroan back down to the stables. There were two horses and she proceeded to load the packs onto the second of the two horses. Once it was loaded with all of the packs, she went over to eraon and picked her up and set her on the horse. She noticed the look of panic in her eyes, but arya never stopped touching her as she jumped up on the horse as well. She said directions to the horses in the ancient language, and she felt eraon tense as she spoke it.
“Elven horses are special, you can talk to them in the ancient language, and they will know where to go.” Arya said gently to the tense girl. She felt eraon relax slighty and she leaned back against her.
They started to ride. The day was still young, and arya knew that they had about two full days of riding. They would reach the spot on the third day.
Arya spent the entire day riding, going straigh through lunch without stopping. Eraon had done nothing and was silent sitting between her legs. As the night sky overtook the forest, arya felt eraon become slightly more limp than before. Arya slowed the cantering horse to a trot. She could feel that the horse was exhausted after such a long ride. Arya slid off the horse and she saw that eraon was completely limp. She picked her up off the saddle, seeing that she was asleep. With one hand arya removed the tack from the horses, then let them go for the night. She picked up a a pad, and laid it out, deciding not to pitch a tent.
She laid out on the pad, and she laid the sleeping girl on her chest. She held her daughter tightly, and kept watched as she slept.
Her child was still asleep when she mounted her horse and took off. Arya could feel an emptyness that was consuming her daighter. She gently kissed her head as the spot came into view. She entered through the barrier, those only of her bloodline allowed to enter, and she found herself in the concelaed oasis that was her nad her mother’s sacred place. It was early afternoon, and she dismounted and allowed her horse to go free. She walked to the hutt that had been constructed long ago and she entered, finding soft blankets make of deatherdown collected from plants. The floor of the hut was a padded fibrous material that was soft under foot, making the entire thing seem like a large bed. She set her packs on the selves above, dried herbs preserved with magic hanging from the raftersof the hut giving it an aeromatic smell. Arya laid out the sleeping child, wrapping her in the soft feather blanket.
Her small chest rose and fell in sleep. Arya removed her boots and her shoes, changing her from her traveling clothing into a soft tunic. Arya saw a scar on her leg, and she felt her chest tightened. She healed the scar, removing it from her body. The little girl stirred, and she opened her eyes, looking up and around. The little girl was silent, looking around, trying to gague where she was. She gingerly wrapped her arms around her front//
“Hey baby.” Arya said gently as she looked at her/ The little girl gave no espoinece as she looked down.
“Here little one, time to eat.” She said. She got eraon some food, and she watched as the little girl meerly stared at her ration offood. Arya sighed, and eventually she began to eat. Arya stood with the litlte girl, and she took her hand in hand and exited from the tent/
