Chapter 14 :: The White Rabbit
I cursed the sun gods in very colorful language. The light shone through the curtains in Lucia’s room, blinding me as I awoke. It felt like there was something important going on today, but I couldn’t remember for the life of me. Not after the amazing night Lucia and I had shared together. I was still curled up comfortably against his side, his arm around my waist.
“Ugh...” I buried my face in his chest and groaned again, trying to get in a comfortable position where I could go back to sleep.
“Hey baby... I think it’s time for you to get up,” Lucia shook me lightly, trying to keep me from closing my eyes. I stuck my tongue out at him, thinking him a cruel, evil bastard. Was twenty more minutes of sleep going to kill me? “Oh... fuckfuckfuckfuck. Haru we need to get up. NOW.”
I blinked at him and sat up, looking at the clock. It was two in the afternoon, so what? We didn’t go to bed until just before dawn anyways with all our... activities. Some of the things that he did to me the night before caused me to blush, despite the fact we had been together for a couple weeks now.
“Haru, up.” he started trying to push and pull me out of bed to get up while rushing around picking out nice clothes for himself. I groaned and buried myself under the blankets. “Haru Glory your sister’s wedding starts in thirty minutes, and if you don’t get up and there in time she’s going to castrate me.”
I was up as soon as I heard the word wedding. How the fuck could I forget that?! Catt was going to kill me, and mostly likely Lucia too. I guess it was a good thing that I had brought my tux here for safe keeping, mostly because I was spending more nights here than at home. There was still a panic though. I had to put it on, brush my hair and teeth and then somehow make it all the way across town in 20 minutes. It was impossible.
Lucia helped me dress and do my tie and everything, while I tried to tame my hair and make my breath smell minty so no one would guess where I was last night. I had dark circles under my eyes from the lack of sleep the night before, but I hoped no one, especially Catt, would notice.
Everything else blurred together until we were in the car flying down the street at speeds that should have gotten us arrested. We didn’t though, and before I knew it we were at the church barely three minutes before the wedding was due to start. I gave Lucia a quick kiss. “See you at the reception, Lucia,” I kissed him again and got out, running up the stairs and nearly tripping a couple times.
I was still groggy from just waking up unfortunately, so I had difficulty remembering the way to the room I was supposed to be at. “Haru!” Musica came rushing over to me. “Where the hell have you been, we were all worried! Damn man you look like crap.”
“Sorry, had a long night, luckily Lucia got me up when he did otherwise I probably would have made it at all,” I scratched the back of my head sheepishly, grinning. “Am I going to die?”
“Catt doesn’t know you’re not here yet. Shuda wasn’t going to say anything until the last minute, come on,” Musica led me to the room where Shuda was waiting with Sieg. During the time where me and Catt were fighting they had replaced me with some guy Shuda was friends with. I didn’t even know his name, nor did I care.
I got a better job. I got to walk Catt down the aisle.
Shuda looked relieved. “You’re here. I thought we were going to have to sacrifice someone in order to inform Catt her brother wasn’t here yet,” he sighed and ran his hand through his hair nervously. I had come to respect him a bit, especially when I found out Catt had all but forced him to propose. More like she kept obviously hinting she wanted to get married, and we were positive she would have proposed if he had waited any longer.
I looked at the clock. I still had a couple minutes before I had to go over and find Catt to walk with her. Even I was a bit nervous now. What if I stepped on her dress? Tripped and pulled her down with me? She’d never forgive me.
“Haru. Breathe. It’s not like this is your wedding or anything,” Let patted my shoulder sympathetically.
“No, but this is Catt’s.”
We both knew that meant if anyone screwed anything up, well... getting hit by a semi truck would be more preferable.
“Okay, people, it’s time, lets get this shindig rolling,” Musica queued everyone to start moving. I head off to Catt’s dressing room, not looking at Elie as she passed me to get in line. Julia smirked at me and gave me a wink.
Beautiful. That was not a word I’ll ever use to describe how Catt looked. I don’t think there was a word to describe her that day. She had worn mom’s wedding dress, which she had somehow managed to dig up. She didn’t wear much make up, just a light bit to cover up the circles under her own eyes. I figured with all the excitement she wouldn’t have slept much either. This was only the biggest day of her life after all, and I couldn’t blame her for being restless.
Her eyes though. They seemed to glow with happiness. Wearing that dress, standing there holding her bouquet... She looked so much like mom I almost broke down and started crying. As it was I was wiping a couple tears out of my eyes.
“Hey,” she said quietly, coming over to hug me. “You’re not allowed to cry yet.”
I chuckled. “Sorry, Catt... you just... you’re so beautiful... And the wedding’s starting so we better get going,” I told her and she took my arm, and we exited the room. We heard the music starting that was our sign to start walking. I was sure things couldn’t be more perfect in that moment.
----
I really didn’t remember much of the actual ceremony. I was too busy watching Catt and Shuda, looking for any sign of doubt in either of their faces. There wasn’t even a trace to be found, and that sort of put me at ease while they said their vows, put on their rings and finally kissed.
I was happy once the pictures and everything got over. I was starving, and still tired from the night before, and it was really slowing me down and making me air headed. It was nice once we got to the reception and started eating and having a good time. Everyone seemed happy as they danced and laughed and told stories.
I took time to relax a bit, eating and drinking and talking with Lucia about different things. I had to dance with Catt of course, but even that seemed to be more fun than it ought have, at least in my mind. She was so happy, it was hard for her glow to not be contagious.
Of course, I knew that something bad was going to happen. I just hoped whatever it was that was causing the nervousness in my stomach wouldn’t happen until after the majority of the people were gone. And it did.
I was just getting ready to get up and find Lucia so we could leave when I spotted Lucia and Shuda talking to Sieg. All three men looked pissed and Musica gave me a look that said ‘this isn’t going to be pretty.’
I nodded and we headed over to them. By this time Catt was over there, her voice full of anger and her finger pointing at Elie who was about six feet behind Sieg, watching things proceed with a bit of a worried look. “That slut has the nerve to insult my baby brother?!” she screeched, looking ready to kill. Shuda was getting ready to drag her out of there. I stood by Lucia at this point in time.
“What happened, happened. It’s done and over and everyone seemed to be in a happier place than they were before, can we just drop it and leave?” Sieg said with a bored tone, flicking a bit of hair out of his face like he had better things to do.
“No Sieg, I’m afraid it can’t just be dropped...” Shuda said, his voice steely and his eyes hard like he was actually angry about all this. “The Sieg I knew and grew up with wouldn’t have done shit like that. I don’t think I can respect you because of that. You’ve changed. Became an asshole. The only reason we even let you be involved in this now because it was too late to try and find a new best man.”
Lucia was shaking a bit, his fist clenched and before I could reach out to grab his arm he landed a blow to Sieg’s face. Elie screamed, I grabbed his arm and tried pulling him back, but Sieg reacted and threw one right back at Lucia. Musica pulled me out of the way while they exchanged blows, Musica trying to seperate them and Shuda trying to pull Catt away from the fight. Unfortunately she was too busy trying to kick Sieg.
It was a messy fight. After Shuda got Catt off to the side, he started trying to break it up, but that only went so far. Musica hobbled away with a bloody nose and a black eye, though it was because he had gotten hit by both guys at some point in time. He was drunk anyways, I was surprised he didn’t pass out right there.
Shuda managed to shove Sieg away from Lucia long enough to push Lucia back and try to prevent any more hits. I was too stunned to do more than watch really. I never expected Lucia to attack Sieg. “You’ve picked up some stupid friends and family Shuda by marrying the little skank,” Sieg glared at Catt who was still throwing insults at him from the background. He wiped blood off his face, his nose swollen and bruises covering his face.
I saw red. It was one thing to fight with my boyfriend, especially since he was the one who threw the first punch, but I wasn’t going to stand by and listen to my sister be insulted. Before I even realized I was moving my fist was connecting with Sieg’s stomach and I was growling out, “Never, EVER call my sister that again.”
He coughed, falling flat on his ass and backing away a bit, out of breath. Elie scrambled over to him and helped him up, eyes wide as she looked at me. I must have looked really scary because she whispered to Sieg, helped him up and they left as quickly as they could.
I knelt by Lucia, who had settled himself in a chair and was dabbing at his nose a bit. “You okay?”
“Okay? Haru I’m fucking amazing! Did you SEE the look on Sieg’s face when you punched him?!” Lucia grinned at me, touching my cheek lightly. “You’re hot when you’re pissed off.”
I blushed, hoping no one heard that, but from the way Shuda’s eyebrow raised I knew he had at least. “Sorry, guys... I didn’t think... You guys should have just left it alone,” I mumbled, standing and scratching the back of my head. Some of the decorations had been torn down, Catt’s dress was ripped a little from where she stepped on it in her fight to help, Musica’s new girlfriend Reina was setting his nose right, Shuda had a new bruise on his cheek. I felt like this had ruined the whole wedding. Catt smiled at me, her eyes full of pride.
“Oh, Haru. That’s what family does for each other. Besides, he should have kept Elie’s damned mouth shut,” she came over to me and patted my shoulder. “Plus, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you hit someone like that... Nice punch.”
Most people would have found this a bad ending to a wedding, but really... Standing there with my sister and her new husband, my boyfriend with my best friend over in the corner groaning in his over-dramatic agony. I couldn’t have pictured anything more perfect.

AN: Yes... there it is... my slightly lame ending to the story... if you’re wondering why it’s so lame... because I’ve given up on this story... and I’m currently working on chapter two of the sequel XDDDD;;; I got inspiration a while back to do chapter one and now I’m moving onward. Basically I just finished this quickly to start posting that here in a couple days! My parents leave tomorrow for a WHOLE WEEK and I’ll have lots of time to myself to write!
