Toboe walked around his shared dorm gathering dirty clothes for the laundry. He is currently searching for a missing item. He can't find an article of clothing that he'd worn over at Tsume's the other evening. 'It shoulda been with the rest of my stuff, so where is it?' he bent down checking beneath the bed. He heard his ringtone playing a familiar jingle. Standing on his knees, he reached for the device.
"Hello?"
"Toboe, it's me."
"I know; what's up?" He asked his brother.
"I think I left one of the windows open at home; can you go by and check for me?"
"Sure." He made a mental note to go home and close any open windows. "Was that it?" He then asked.
"Yeah. There is something else.." He trailed off ominously.
Toboe furrowed his brows. "What's wrong?"
His brother sounded as though he was fighting laughter; very unusual for his usually stolid brother. It seems he has a lot to learn about his brother Kiba as opposed to his appointed guardian Kiba.
"And you say I pick on him too much," Hige was heard in the background. "Gimme the phone."
"No, I'll tell him. I just wanted to keep it to myself a bit longer."
"Yeah, but, that was yesterday."
Toboe's expression went from happy, confused, concerned, and listening now to the phone scuffle, he's just over it. "The windows, right? I'll check them - - wait! If I'm doing that, does that mean you're not at home?"
Gasper walked into the room. He looked at his roommate by a glance before dropping onto his bed to devour his pungent cup of ramen.
"No. Hige and I are at the cabin."
Toboe smirked. "You say that with a familiarity tone;" he grinned and used a teasing tone. "Is it your 'Love Shack'?"
"Actually," and the silliness of his brother's voice sobered back to it's usual mood. "It's our cabin, Toboe."
"Huh?"
"The one we used to go on vacations to.. as a family."
"I don't remember going anywhere - - except that time Tsume invited us to Naples." He glanced over his shoulder when his friend started coughing after a slurp of hot liquid went the wrong way. The reality crossed his mind then. "What?! I thought it burned down?" He landed on his bed with a firm sit.
This was impossible, unbelievable. How? And, more importantly, what are Kiba and Hige doing there. Is that why they were so animated a moment ago? They wanted to surprise him with news about the Wolf family cottage?
"Toboe? Are you there?"
"Yeah, I'm here.. I was just surprised."
"Me too. Hige drove me out here,"
"Hige did?"
"Yeah. He paid to have it rebuilt... it's exactly the same layout. It's incredible." Kiba sounded so serene and at peace.
Toboe was floored. If anyone, he expected he would enjoy the place, as he doesn't remember the horrific night that took everything from them but each other.
"You have to come here sometime, maybe we can all celebrate the holiday here."
"...Y-yeah.. Yeah, that sounds really cool."
"Tsume can come, too." Hige squeaked in a word in the background.
"I'm sure he will." Hopefully he wouldn't be busy.
Although, the cottage likely won't be a place Tsume would want to go, considering all that'd happened on his part. Breaking in; underage drinking; tossing beer leftovers into a fire; ultimately abandoning responsibility of what had happened. Yeah, Toboe could just see that gathering. Fingers pointed, why'd you do it? A fight.
'Wait... Does Kiba even know what happened?' Tsume told him in his moment of a 'dear, goodbye'. But does Kiba know? 'He probably doesn't; Tsume would have been arrested for it, nevermind his being with me; he could have had him removed from our lives with one phone call.' Blinking, he asked. "Huh?"
"I said: there is another thing I wanted to tell you,"
Toboe gave a shrug of his hand, telling him to go for it, verbally he was just silent.
"Hige and I are engaged."
A wrecking ball came smashing into the building right then. The brick and drywall were wet paper in it's path. It sent Gasper flying into the exit door; his steaming hot ramen burned into his flesh as broth splashed him. Toboe was knocked on the head by the heavy ball, left unconscious on the floor in the fall over. There is just no way, he heard right.
"Are you serious?!" He suddenly found his voice.
His roommate looked at him, wondering what was going on.
"Very."
"Oh my gawd! This is... This is insane!" He didn't mean to shout but news like that tended to come with a megaphone for the receiver of it. "And he said yes?! Wait, you said yes?"
"I asked him."
"No way!?"
"Toboe, stop shouting; I'd like to be able to hear Hige's vows when the day comes."
"What's going on?" Asked his roommate, he can't help but eavesdrop on one end, it's loud enough.
Toboe waved him silent. "When are you doing it?"
"Not sure.. Maybe late winter."
Toboe can tell his brother looked to his fiance when stating that. It would seem this event was still fresh as the pair haven't worked out the details. Good. He kinda wants in on the planning. It would be nice.
"We'll keep you in the know, runt," commented Hige. "Now let us get back to the pre-honeymoon."
"Euw."
Hige laughed. "Later."
"Bye, and bye Kiba."
"Bye - - don't forget about the windows."
"I won't. Later." He hung up. Toboe turned to his roommate; his already large eyes were even more widened. He'd make lemurs give him a pat on the back as an empathy showing. "Kiba.. my brother... is getting married!"
Gasper only blinked.
"Why are you not jumping for joy?" Asked the disappointed; he wanted to match emotions. Not get a lukewarm response of blinking while slurping noodles.
"I don't know your brother nor the person he's with, so, it's just like hearing about anyone else."
"Well, if you knew my brother you'd be surprised." He sat on his bed. "He never likes change; he's babied me practically my whole life, and when Tsume became a part of it," he made a disgruntled sound. "This is huge. And asked Hige, not the other way around."
Gasper nodded to show he's following along.
"I gotta tell Cheza. She's gonna flip."
Gasper snorted. "Cheza doesn't strike me as the "flip" type."
Toboe's expression basically gave his roommate the finger. He can't badmouth his best friend.
"Sorry. I wasn't trying to be rude or anything, but Cheza is just a lot more... calm about things than you or Leara."
"I guess you're right; hey, are you busy?" He stood up. "I have to go home and make sure my irresponsible brother closed the windows."
"Sure, I'll go with you."
"We'll have to take the bus," he informed him on his way out of the bedroom. Saying that, he thought it wouldn't be so bad to have Tsume buy him a car. He and Kiba made an offer; one to outright gift it, the other to help him pay for it.
Gasper tipped his ramen cup to finish the broth, then he exited behind Toboe.
...
The key went into the lock allowing the pair access inside. The newcomer looked about while following closely behind the guy familiar with the home. Toboe offered him something to snack on and pointed to the location where the snacks are stored, before he went about checking the windows. Gasper shook his head, continuing to tag-along behind Toboe.
Toboe was so curious as to what was done with his bedroom. He'd likely find a mini-fridge, beanbag chair, and new TV. A lounge room for Hige. He smirked at his teasing accusations, as he opened the door to his bedroom. It was just an empty room. The wolf silhouettes were still stuck to the walls, the curtains still in place, closed. The only thing different about the room as far as anyone entering it since he'd left, was the closed closet door.
"Nice size." Commented the guest. "Wolves?"
"Wolf." Stated Toboe pointing to himself.
"You're lucky, if you're into that sort of thing," he mentioned. "I don't think I'd be interested in finding ways to rep the name Gasper, and Lee is everywhere. It's got no meaning behind it."
"Unless your first name is Bruce."
"Right."
They turned away. Toboe checked the remainder of the upstairs windows, then swung into the kitchen to grab a Rice Krispies treat for himself. He took a bite, then asked his guest if he was sure he didn't want anything.
"Hey!" He cried out when his snack was bitten into so suddenly. "I meant your own," he shook his head. Going into the small laundry area that's just off the kitchen, he checked inside the washer and then the dryer. "And he gets on me.." He muttered before turning on the washing machine.
Luckily, his brother hadn't left the house with cleaned clothes still moist inside the machine. That would have been a disastrous repeat. One year around the holidays, they went on a short trip with the Lewboski family, and came home to the grossest mildew stink. And the poor clothing was flecked with green; they had to throw it all out.
"Wanna hang out for a bit? I'm gonna be here until the clothes are done, but you can go back to the dorm." He sat at the kitchen table, after grabbing a box of mini sandwich crackers.
"I'll stay." Gasper took a seat at the table; sharing some of the crispy peanut butter filled crackers.
"I know this is gonna sound weird," Doing the laundry, he suddenly recalled what he was doing 40 minutes ago. "But have you seen a pair of my boxers?"
"Lots of times, you leave them in the closet on the floor." He looked past Toboe out the kitchen window as a biker went by.
"No, I meant specifically from yesterday; I changed into my night clothes and dropped them into the dirty pile, but when I went to gather stuff to be washed they weren't there."
"What color?"
"Navy."
Gasper chewed as he thought. "I saw them when I went to toss my stuff into the pile, but not after."
Brow furrowed, he wondered who would move them? And, why? "Who'd take someone's dirty boxers?"
"You get that hot down there?" He scrunched his nose.
"No. I wore those at Tsume's and.." He blushed. "I just sort of took what I needed, but didn't really clean up so good before I left." He suddenly found something interesting to look at out the window. But, however embarrassed, he still felt proud and pretty cool to be able to say such things and not get jumped on for it.
Gasper held his cringe. A guy Tsume's age, liking a guy Toboe's age was just so wrong. Ok, so he's 19, that doesn't mean he's a shopping option for guys older than 23. It's just gross. He should be with someone his own age.
"So, have you and Leara done it yet?" Toboe recovered his nerves.
"Us? Ahaha, no. Not yet."
"Wow. I would have thought so; Leara is crazy hot for you."
Gasper smiled. "She is?"
"Yup. She's always telling us about your great bod', and how sexy you look dancing." He chuckled. "I'm surprised you haven't filed a relationship restraining order."
"Not at all. She acts like the perfectly polite girl when we're alone," he mumbled then. "Which is lucky for me, because I've never had sex before." He hid a blush. "In fact, until Leara, I've never even kissed anyone."
"Really? A decent looking guy like you?"
Gasper bestowed Toboe with a look of amused belligerence. "Thanks.. "decent looking"," he muttered in mock upset. "But, it's true."
"Didn't you even makeout with that two-months-long girl?
"No. We mostly just held hands, pecked. Nothing you'd lose your breath over." He suddenly changed subjects. "Been hot out lately." He fanned himself under the marvelling scrutiny of his friend. "Well it's not like I'm a prude, I just wasn't that into them." He lifted his chin in a point. "What about you? Wasn't there anyone you were into before Tsume took you?"
He ignored the description of being 'taken'. "Actually.. No. Tsume is my first boyfriend, and my first kiss, the first person I've ever slept with..." He noticed the smile. "What? Is that weird?"
"I was just thinking that we might have missed out on a lot of experiences, if we've only ever sincerely been with one person."
Toboe was about to say something when the washer jingle interrupted. He got up from the table and tended to the clothes, shoving them into the dryer. "You know, I'm still laughing about that one judge's expression, when the winner of Vocal said: I can finally afford that sex change. Boy he was shocked."
Brushing his crumb, and light grease covered fingers down his jeans, he snickered. "I'm sure she'll make for a better R&B singer afterwards, he'll win all the hearts."
He returned to his seat. "I just hope the label doesn't drop him for false representation."
"Naah, he could sue." He took out his phone. "Speaking of music... I started making up that dance for you."
"Huh? What dance?"
It was awhile ago, but not that long. How could Toboe have forgotten? Wondered the dancer. "Before, we said we'd exchange talent, and you'd make up a piece for me on your Oboe, and I'd -"
"Ohh, yeeeah! Aheh, I forgot. Sorry."
Gasper reached for his phone. "Now I'm embarrassed."
"Don't be. We can still do it; I just forgot. College is way more stressful than school." He explained away his reason, though it was a lie; he'd forgotten because it wasn't really important to him. If he'd said such a thing or made any such promise it was just a spur of the moment. "I'll for sure do something for you."
"No cap?"
Toboe held up his hand as a swear by.
"Ok. Here goes."
Toboe watched, a little awkwardly at first; his friend is randomly dancing for him. That's not an everyday occurrence. But, when he viewed it as he would watching Gasper and crew at the park, or someone on a dance tv show, he was enjoying the performance. Gasper stopped after a minute; scratching his chin, he said. "That's what I have so far."
Toboe applauded. "Good thing it's an exchange and not a competition. I'd probably lose."
"Wanna dance with me?" He picked up his phone to stop the song that was still playing.
"Sure, but," he passed by him headed for the living room. "Let's go in the living room, its more spacious for dancing." Twice the dancer almost kicked the chair or him during his performance.
"Ok. Chop your arm out, and twist this leg." Gasper instructed.
Doing as instructed, Toboe learned another small bit of choreography from his friend.
"Ahaha."
Toboe stopped moving instantly. "What? I didn't mess up."
Gasper waved his hand. "It's just funny how I've never had sex, but my body-waves are more fluid. You look like... well, like you're about to storm off after not being allowed into a place. Wave your body, don't just lift and drop your arms."
"Believe it or not, I thought I was." He smiled, embarrassed. "I'm not a dancer, don't tease me about it."
"Sorry, but, it looked funny from side view." He took Toboe's hands and wrapped his arms around his shoulders, he then wrapped his own around his physically challenged friend's waist before pulling him close. "Feel what it feels like," he waved his body. "Move against me."
Toboe was frozen; blushing when Gasper's body rolled against his. His thigh right between his legs. His chest just brushed against his lightly over and over with each wave.
"I can't learn it this way," he mumbled between them.
Gasper said softly at his ear. "Probably not." He backed out of the position; unaware of how relieved his dance partner was for it. "The dryer sounded."
"Great," Toboe breathed; shaken by the moment. "I'll unload it, then we can go."
"Ok. I'll be at the door."
Toboe gave a curt nod then walked through the kitchen then into laundry room. He pulled the clothes from the dryer; giving them a half-assed folding, before dropping them into the basket beside the machine. He replayed what had just happened in the living room, but couldn't make heads or tails from it. It wasn't like Gasper was trying to be sexual. It was just dancing, most dancing is like that. But, it felt too... intimate.
'Was I just sexually assaulted?' Toboe instantly blushed over how rude and accusing that was. 'For Pete's sake, he's dating Leara. He's straight! Maybe I am too much of a novice because I've only been with Tsume. How embarrassing.' He exited the kitchen into the front hall. With luck, Gasper didn't notice how shook he was from the close contact. "Ready to go?"
"Ahead of you" Gasper teased before he walked out the door.
Toboe followed locking the door, and the strange moment, behind him.

Toboe walked down the hall of the studio apartment. He heard voices, one being Tsume. The other, he has never heard before. Their voices were jovial, then serious. He could understand them clearly before, but now they're but a whisper until silence. He felt an uneasy knot forming in his stomach. Just as he was about to shove his key into the lock, he was startled by the door swinging open.
"Umm," he wasn't sure what to say, nor how to greet this stranger. By appearance, he looked a lot nicer than Spike Speigel. He wasn't sure if that made him more or less geared towards liking the guy or giving him the stink-eye.
"Hello, little guy," the man greeted.
Toboe made dry laugh; nice face, bad mouth. Wavering on how to feel about him. He looked passed the man to his boyfriend; Tsume is putting on chapstick, and doesn't yet see him.
"Hey, I recognize you. You're on the news with this guy." He nodded over his shoulder at Tsume. "I'm Aabroo Smith, and you are?"
Taking the offered hand, he said. "If you don't tell the media, I'm Toboe."
"Nice to meet you, Toboe."
It was then that Tsume caught his eye, and he was waved in. "You, too. How long have you known Tsume?"
"Umm, not long. I'm his co-star."
"Oh, for the thriller?"
"The thriller was over a month ago," Tsume wrapped his arm around his shoulders, steering him inside. "Stop playing in the doorway."
"Later, Tsu'!" Smith said. "Bye, Toboe."
"Bye." When the door was closed, he scoffed. "Pretty-boy with the eye mole is your co-star?" He looked over his shoulder as if he can see through the wall and elevator. "Does he have to be? Is it the final say?"
Tsume smirked. "Pretty, where?"
He closed his eyes enjoying the fingers combing through the back of his hair. "I.. uh.. what were we talking about?" He smiled; his eyes closed and he leaned into Tsume. He smelled him, such a soft scent. Up close, Gasper smelled like hard soap and a hint of bodyspray. His closeness felt nothing like this.
"My acting partner." Replied the star bluntly, though without a hint of teasing.
"Oh, well, forget that." He moved back a step to look at his boyfriend; he has a huge grin on his face. "Tsume you know what happens when you love someone so much you could explode?"
"I think I like where this is going."
"Good, because it's real."
"What's real?"
"Love. Real love. And it's gonna explode." He wrapped his arms around him again. "How do you feel about weddings?" Tsume was quiet; Toboe couldn't see his face, because he's lying against his chest, and opening his eyes, he doesn't have a clear view. "Tsume?"
"I, uh.. I think they're great."
"Really?! That's great!"
"It is great." Toboe released him to reach into his pants pocket. He glanced in the direction Tsume was going to, as he dropped his boyfriend's mail onto the island counter. "So, does that mean you'll come?"
"Come?" He froze after opening a rag drawer.
"Yeah, to the wedding." He rushed over to him, hugging him from behind. "Promise not to look better than the grooms."
"What are you talking about?"
"My brother and Hige! They're engaged! Can you believe it?!"
"I don't believe it." He closed the drawer.
"I didn't at first, either. It was the coolest news I'd ever heard!" He began to bounce up and down; he then peppered kisses on his boyfriend's back. "Man, it's about time, don't you think? They've been together for ages."
"It's only natural."
"Yeah. Imagine loving someone that much.. so cool.." He walked into the living room.
"Toboe, I.."
"I can only stay for a little bit, I have to make dinner tonight for they guys - we take turns."
"Sounds progressive."
"It is. Omi usually orders out though, he can't cook. But, hey, if he wants to waste the money instead of learn," he shrugged. "Tsume, did I leave my boxers here? The ones I wore yesterday."
"No."
"They've gone missing. I hope I didn't drop them in the hall or something." He had a sick thought of bullying, his shorts waving in a draft. He groaned. "I'm going back to the dorm to look." He pulled Tsume over the distance of their heights and kissed him. "I'll call before bed, so be up."
"Alright."
"Later." He waved goodbye, then left.
