Something In-Between
Omake

It was a week after Shuichi’s release from the hospital that Shuichi and Eiri found themselves at the airport and ready to head home. Tohma, Kyosuke, Hiroshi, and Suguru had come along to see them off.

Shuichi was feeling much better, stronger in both mind and body as he surprised Suguru with a hug and words of caution about watching out for his freaky lovers. Hiro was next to be hugged and Shuichi gave his best friend similar advice.

Finally, it was Kyosuke’s turn and he hugged Shuichi tightly, whispering in the singer’s ear about how someday Shuichi would come to his senses and realize that he was really in love with Kyosuke and not Yuki. On that day, he explained that Shuichi would be welcomed with open arms into Kyosuke’s house of love. Shuichi giggled and rolled his eyes at his friend’s unbelievable ego and told Kyosuke that when that day came, he was sure that hell would be frozen over.

Eiri glowered at the embracing pair, disliking the extraordinarily amount of time that Inoue hugged the giggling Shuichi. The scene reeked of déjà vu for Eiri and suddenly and quite unexpectedly, he lost his temper completely. Grabbing the recently bleached-blond Kyosuke by the shoulder, Eiri wrenched the other man around and hit him squarely on the chin, knocking the smug, smiling bastard to the ground.

“Eiri, what the hell do you think you are you doing?” Shuichi shouted as he watched his friend collapse to the ground.

“If I had just done that about four months ago, you and I could have avoided a whole lot of pain,” Eiri snarled in response to his lover, his eyes were lit with a fiery possessiveness. “It’s time to go now, so come on.” Then he turned and strode toward the departure gates.

Shuichi shook his head angrily at Eiri’s retreating form. Taking a tentative step towards Kyo, he paused when he met Suguru’s jealous stare. Shuichi realized with an abrupt and slight sadness that tending to Kyo was not his job. Still grappling with all of the changing roles, Shuichi gazed at Hiroshi and Suguru and asked, “Is Kyo okay?”

“Yes, he’s fine, Shu. As you know, his head is as hard as granite,” Hiro said dismissively as he kneeled over his lover, surveying the damage. “Go on, don’t miss your plane. Don’t worry, we’ll take care of Kyosuke.”

Shuichi smiled softly at his best friend, “I know you will. And far better than I ever could have.” He grinned at his friend on the ground and before he scampered towards a still glaring, impatient Eiri, he said, “Sorry about that Kyo! I’ll see you guys soon.”

The four waved their goodbyes at the singer and then they all smiled as they heard Shuichi’s angry tirade break loose once he got close to Eiri. The two were arguing fiercely as they stepped through the departure gates together.

Still smiling, Hiroshi helped Kyosuke to his feet, wiping at the blood on his lover’s split lip, “You totally had that coming, you know that, don’t you?”

“Yeah,” Kyosuke grinned as he shook his head. “I did. I hope he appreciates that. I’m still seeing stars.”

“Are you trying to tell me you let him hit you?” Hiroshi shook his head in disbelief.

“Of course,” Kyosuke blinked his eyes trying to clear them. “I figured that, if he got to hit me, it would make him feel better about the whole… well, you know.”

“Well, I wanted to hit you, too,” Suguru grumbled as he whapped Kyosuke on the back of the head.

“Oww! What was that for?” Kyosuke complained as he rubbed at his head.

“Don’t flirt with Shuichi so much, you man-whore!” Suguru hissed at him.

“Okay, okay, I get it. And here I thought Hiroshi was the jealous one,” Kyosuke grinned as he hugged his lover.

“Hey! What’s that suppose to mean?” Hiroshi demanded around his laughter.

Rolling his eyes, Kyosuke turned to his cousin, “Hey, Tohma, want to go out to dinner with us?”

“What did you have in mind?” Tohma asked quietly.

“Moroccan,” Kyosuke smiled, his eyes sparkling.

Tohma laughed, “No, I think I’ll pass on that sideshow if you are involved.”

“Oh, come on! Maybe we could get Noriko-san to join us,” Kyosuke bargained.

Tohma weighed the idea, finally coming to the realization that no matter who joined them, Kyosuke’s entourage would still resemble a circus act. He hoped that once some of the newness of their strange relationship wore off, the three would begin to behave somewhat normally again. But right now… their antics were a bit more than Tohma was up for. “Thank you, Kyosuke, but not tonight.”

As the four of them walked towards the exit, Suguru leaned close and said, “You know, Tohma, you are very uptight. You could stand to relax a little.”

Tohma stared at his corrupted cousin and blinked his eyes. After a moment he couldn’t stop his smile as he said, “I’ll try and take your advice into future consideration, Suguru.”

Inside the plane, their anger beginning to cool, Shuichi and Eiri settled in and sat in silence for a few minutes.

“Are you sorry to leave?” Eiri finally asked as he shook his stinging hand. Had Inoue let him do that? No, that wasn’t possible… was it?

“Sorry to leave England?” Shuichi turned his violet eyes to Eiri’s amber ones. “Well, I liked London, but I’m happy to be going home again. I’m looking forward to having some fresh ramen.”

“Ramen?” Eiri stared at him, slowly absorbing the words that reignited the anger in him.

“Geez, Eiri,” Shuichi smiled as he grabbed his lover’s stinging hand and observed it. “Sometimes you are so easy. I’m not sorry to leave. The only good time I had here was after you showed up.”

“Huh,” Eiri rolled his eyes but did not manage to completely hide the pleasure Shuichi’s words had given him.

“Well, even though you have some anger issues,” Shuichi said as he lightly kissed Eiri’s bruised knuckles, “I’m glad to be going home with you.”

“Tch,” Eiri said dismissively, yet his hand tightened around Shuichi’s, letting his lover know that he was glad they were together as well.

It was clear that the months ahead would be full of anxiety, uncertainty and excitement for everyone. And Shuichi found that he was very much looking forward to it, come what may.

Thanks everyone!
