M-chan: Hugue-style bitches! XD (bitches being a term reserved for inner circular people and bitch being a derogatory term used for ppls I can’t stand like ESTHER!) I want a shirt that just says that: Hugue-style. Thanks for the puppy! *loves it and pets it and hugs it and strokes it and watches while her ego grows from the praise*
Lady Kira Nightroad: *has broken a finger or two, but has lovingly filled your request to continue writing*
Darkphoenix: OH I F*CKING KNOW! *sets the bitch on fire and kicks her over a cliff* ask and ye shall receive. I know, I was totally like....ready to cry in outrage and anger when I saw that episode. I was like...you...what....HUH?! How can you even not want to hump him like that, he’s this beautiful angelic superhero that JUST FUCKING SAVED YOUR ASS! Hate is a strong word, but I really really really don’t like her. Yay white tees!
Taye: :”> I’ve only heard this term before on a couple of forums, and I probably am not even using it right, but when I read this comment I just thought to myself “mewf” lol. Maybe RawR would be more appropriate. Thanks, I try to make my love scenes rather nice :) Another vote for Tres!
RetroLamb: Yeah, I figured since it doesn’t look like Catherina really gets any, she’d prolly be all nosey and intuition-y about other people’s affairs. Maybe she’s just concentrating really hard on balancing that preposterous hat.
Chapter 14: You Haunt My Dreams
“Tres, who’s meeting us?”
“Father Hugue arrived early this morning to scout the work site you are assigned to. He has already ensured that the site is secure so that you may report for work.” Alex gave a mental groan at this new insight, not sure if she would be able to look Hugue in the eye. It wasn’t long before she was forced to test her hypothesis; they arrived at the dig site in a matter of minutes.
“Mademoiselle.” Hugue approached her immediately, kissing each cheek with restraint.
“Hugue, how are you?”
“I am well. You gave us all quite a scared, running off after Isaac’s appearance. We were quite certain you were seriously injured.”
“No, just a few deep bruises and my ribs took a beating, but nothing a lot of rest couldn’t fix. Abel took good care of me.” Alex avoided Hugue’s gaze as she said this last sentence, looking around the dig site to keep him from seeing her blush. Hugue of course noticed the atypical loss of eye contact during the conversation and was immediately curious. He also tasted the bitterness of jealousy, but swallowed and took a deep silent breath to cover it up. Alex didn’t notice.
“I’m so glad you are well. I was also happy to hear that I am to guard you alongside Tres today. I have been waiting eagerly to speak with you since my return to the Vatican.” Alex blushed, gazing at him
“I’ve been eager to talk to you too, Hugue. You’re the best conversationalist I know, besides myself, of course.” Hugue graced her with the barest ghost of a smile before kissing the back of her hand and releasing her so she could work. As he watched her dig and shout instructions to others working in separate craters, he wondered just what had happened between her and Abel over the weekend. He knew immediately what had truly happened, but was loathe to admit it, even to himself. As the sun crawled across the sky, hidden though it was by menacing clouds, he grew progressively more agitated and jealous at the thought of Abel having been with the woman that had preoccupied his thoughts since he’d first spoken with her. After all, Abel had quite soundly rejected her in Lady Catherina’s office, but she seemed to have moved beyond that and accepted the abuse. Hugue resigned himself to biding his time and waiting for an opening to make his move.
All day he and Tres watched over Alexandra as she toiled in the blustering cold winds. The pair frequently garnered strange looks from her coworkers and everyone was quite curious as to why two handsome priests were following her every move. Alex smiled, saying only that Lady Catherina herself had given her a task to do and they were merely there to help her accomplish said task. Hugue approached her fairly often, crouching to speak with her while she toiled. She often smiled warmly as he approached and he took this to heart as a good sign. He was so compelled to speak with her that he soon left his post next to Tres to stand beside the massive wooden framework that outlined sections that Alex had moved between all day. They talked until the first freezing droplets of a rainstorm began to fall.
“Damn!”
“What is it?” Hugue had his hand over his shoulder, ready to pull his weapon.
“The rain! Didn’t you see it start to fall? If it rains too heavily the ground will turn into mush and it will be impossible to dig until it dries. Not to mention it will cover a lot of the work we’ve done today. Please, please just wait until we’ve got the tarps.” Alex’s prayer seemed to be to no one in particular, yet it was heard all the same. The sky rumbled not far off, and the sparse rain that had begun to fall soon halted. Alex shouted orders to crazed interns and younger archaeologists, who scrambled like ants over the ditches and woodwork, to gather tarps and pull them tight so the rain wouldn’t ruin their hard work. They scrambled and pulled it together just in the nick of time. As the last tarp’s tether was being knotted around a wooden stake, the sky opened and let forth a torrential rain the likes of which hadn’t been seen since biblical times. Alex smiled soggily, yet triumphantly, at Hugue.
“I hate to admit it, but I think someone just answered my prayers. Where’s Tres?”
“I ordered him to go on ahead of us to get you some dry clothes and begin a fire in a common room so that we might warm up and dry off when we reached the Vatican.”
“You’re so sweet. Thank you, Hugue.” Alex almost had to shout over the loud splattering of rain on tarps and nearby cobblestoned streets. She was slightly taken aback at the thoughtfulness of this simple gesture.
“Let’s go, mademoiselle. We don’t want to be soaked.”
“Oh I believe it’s far too late for that.” Alex smiled, her hair coming down from it’s bun in small wet tendrils. Alex grabbed Hugue’s hand and ran for the gates where her foreman was ready to lock them up.
“Hurry up, crazy woman! We can’t stay here all day in the pouring down rain to make up for your missed time.”
“Coming, boss!”
“Yeah, you’d better be here tomorrow, I don’t care what the Cardinal has to say about it. If it’s raining tomorrow we’ll erect tents, we need to catch up for the time we missed. Those interns don’t do shit when they’re not learning from you.”
“Got it. I’ll be here bright and early rain or shine.”
“Make double sure. One more absence and I’m cutting you loose. I don’t care how much the government officials want your name involved in this dig.”
“Yeah yeah.”
Alex rolled her eyes as he began locking the gates, grumbling and cursing quietly to himself. Alex giggled at his comical complaining, grabbing Hugue’s hand once more as they flew down the streets toward the Vatican. Alex led the way through the slapping rain, and didn’t notice when she took a right where she should have taken a left. Hugue, loving the site of her delight at playing in the rain, didn’t have the heart to correct her, and thereby cut their trip together short. Alex splashed in a puddle, releasing Hugue’s hand so she could aim the spray at his already soaked priest’s pants. He grinned and shot after her, splashing in a puddle, and returning the favor. Alex giggled and spit her tongue out at him, crossing her eyes. With her eyes crossed she never saw Hugue approach her and she was pressed up against the crumbling brick side of a building before she could properly respond. Alex gasped as her back contacted the wall a little roughly, but relaxed and chuckled when she saw Hugue’s arms braced on either side of her head.
“Hugue, that’s hardly fair! What are you do--” Alex was cut short as his lips gently pressed against her own. She felt her face flame brightly, despite the cold, as his body came to rest pressed up against her own. She moaned quietly against his lips and he slipped his tongue in before she could even comprehend how their little rainy romp through the streets of Rome had taken them into a new chapter of their relationship. When Hugue finally pulled away for breath, having thoroughly reduced her to a pile of warm goo, she had to struggle to remember how to speak. His kiss was tender, searching, almost heartbroken.
“Hugue...”
“Forgive me. I did not mean to force you, but I’ve been thinking about you since I left on Cardinal Sforza’s orders. You were so beautiful, the way you abandoned yourself to this one moment of happiness, just dashing through the rain.” Hugue idly played with a sopping tress of her hair.
“I didn’t know that you...that you...”
“That I wanted you desperately?” He supplied an end to her sentence, looking into her face longingly.
“Were interested.” Hugue made a strange grunt in the back of his throat.
“I am more than interested. You haunt my dreams, waking or sleeping. I have become quite fond of you, Alexandra.”
Alex blushed, ducking her gaze. She had no idea how to tell Hugue that she couldn’t be with him. Wanting to be with him was another matter, and if that had been all that was required, they might have gone at it in the street. However, in reality, Alex knew she couldn’t truly divulge why she couldn’t be with Hugue without greatly upsetting Abel. How did it look for one of Catherina’s most doted upon priests to have taken up with an atheist lover? Even worse, how would it look if she’d taken up with two of them? No, Alex had no desire to break Abel’s heart and though her body urged her on, even responded unbidden to Hugue’s advances, a very loud voice in Alex’s head screamed shame.
“Ah, so it is true.”
“What?” Alex’s face went pale and a sour feeling pooled in the pit of her stomach.
“You have given yourself to Abel.”
“What? Don’t be ridiculous, he was only helping me recover.”
“Yes, he was helping you recover, both from the fight and years of the same cold manner I have adopted towards the people that surround us. Day in, day out, we keep them at bay, because it’s easier that way, isn’t it Alex?” Alex was stunned that he’d hit so close to the thought she’d echoed to herself every time she’d wondered why she couldn’t just have a normal relationship.
“That’s preposterous, he’s just a friend.”
“Alexandra.” Hugue leaned in, the tip of his nose brushing over her cheek. “I can see it in your eyes and I can feel it when you speak to me. He has your heart now, and I have lost the battle for it. Perhaps it is because I’ve spent so much time trying to forget I had a heart myself.”
“Hugue, I’m so sorry, I didn’t know that you...”
“Were interested.” Hugue supplied the rest of her sentence when she ducked her head in shame. A sad but genuine smiled greeted her when she finally looked back up into his face.
“I’m so sorry.”
“Do not be sorry, Alex. You should be happy. However, I will be watching him closely. I will not see you so abused as you were before I left. If he hurts you again I will challenge him and I will be there to comfort your aching heart.” Hugue took her hand and kissed the back tenderly as if she were his lifeline. Alex blushed beautifully and he almost groaned with need.
“If it makes you feel better, he’s extraordinarily jealous of you.” Hugue chuckled quietly, his eyes locked on hers.
“Alexandra, may I ask one more thing of you?”
“Yes?”
“Let me kiss you? One more kiss?”
“Well... All right.”
“Kiss me like we had a chance to be together.” The quiet pleading in this simple request almost broke Alex’s heart and she threw her arms around Hugue’s neck, her lips crashing into his. He cradled her head in his hands and kissed her with all the passion and zeal of a young lover having found his soulmate on the threshold between this life and the next, knowing he couldn’t follow. Alex kissed him back just as fervently and they were locked together this way for a long time before Alex was forced to surface for breath. She leaned her forehead to his and they panted together, their breath creating little visible puffs in the cold. The rain had lessened while they were kissing, but now that they’d finished it renewed it’s onslaught. Hugue took Alex’s hand, intertwining their fingers, and was off at a sprint through the sparkling rain-soaked cobblestones toward the Vatican.
Hugue and Alex arrived at the Vatican’s main courtyard to find Tres standing guard under the eaves. The two were soaked to the bone and he quickly showed them to a common room where heavy blankets and a roaring fire awaited. To Alex’s surprise, Abel was waiting for them. Hugue cleared his throat upon catching sight of him and moved to give the two privacy.
“Alex! You’re soaked through! Quickly, sit by the fire and dry off before you catch your death of cold!” Alex smiled but cringed inside at his high tinkly tone. Hugue kissed each cheek, excusing himself with the explanation that his guard shift was over. They bid each other good night and Alex could practically hear Abel’s teeth grinding in his head. “Tres! Won’t you be so kind as to bring Alex some food? I know she must be starving after a hard day’s work and I know I could stand for some food.”
“That’s ok, I can get it myself.” Abel threw Alex a strange look as soon as the words left her lips and she silenced herself immediately. Abel proceeded to rattle off a long list of the foods Tres was to have the cooks make, and instructed him to wait in the kitchen’s until they were done so it would all still be good and hot by the time he returned with them.
“Oh! And don’t forget my cup of tea! Thirteen lumps of sugar, please.”
“Request acknowledged, I will return with the necessary food items when the cooks have finished preparing them.” With that Tres left and Abel closed the door behind him.
Alex had drifted off into a light sleep, lulled as she was by the fire, and didn’t hear Abel’s approach on the soft carpet. He kneeled and she still didn’t stir from the sudden presence at her side. Her eyes snapped open when he slid his impossibly warm hands inside her soaking shirt and over her frozen skin.
“Abel! Someone could come in any second.”
“Not likely. Tres and I are your caretakers for the night.”
“Why did you send him away? He’s not a servant, you know.”
“No, he isn’t, but he’s used to taking orders. Are you sure you can’t think of a reason for me to send him away?” Abel whispered huskily in her ear as his fingers crept toward her breasts.
“Abel please, I--” Her pleading was cut short by a gasp as Abel gently pinched a nipple through the thin lace of her bra. Alex groaned softly as he followed suit with its twin.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to touch you Alexandra? There’s no better way for a cry to reach heaven than within the walls of a church.” Alex laughed, pushing him away. The lecherous smile that painted his face was beautiful and it melted her. Abel rose and retrieved the dry clothes Tres had bought for her. It was a priest’s outfit, much like Abel minus the outer jacket with the ridiculously high collar, and thankfully better fitted than the last. Alex stripped to her damp underwear and redressed in the suit. Abel watched all the while from a couch in front of the fire, openly stroking his attention through his own suit pants. Alex smiled and bit her lower lip, staying arm’s distance away.
“So, you like the forbidden boy look, hmm?” Abel chuckled at her perversion of the situation
“I like the forbidden you idea. The suit is asexual and you look gorgeous in black.”
“Well thank you.”
“Oh I know how you can truly thank me.” Abel stood, grasping the lapels of the Alex’s suit and made quick work of the numerous straps and clasps that held it closed. Alex flushed and pressed her forehead to his, breathing slightly raggedly, as he released her torso to the warmth of the fire and the fire of his presence.
“Let down your hair.”
“I can’t. If Tres comes back...”
“And you were so confident moments ago.” Alex smiled, loosing his hair. Abel growled playfully, making Alex giggle.
“Now you’re really going to get it.”
“Mmm, give me your best.”
“With gusto, my dear.” Abel succeeded in sliding the priest’s robe from her body, leaving her in her white bra and black pants. Slipping the pants from her and grasping the blanket she’d draped over the couch back earlier, Abel laid Alex back on the couch, kissing her deeply. Alex blushed brightly and wrapped her legs around his waist, grumbling at the material that met the bare skin of her thighs.
“No fair, you still have your clothes.” Alex pouted and Abel laughed at her ploy.
“Not for long, my dear.” Abel kneeled over her on the obscenely large couch, covering her charms with the blanket as he slipped his fingertips down her abdomen towards her sex. Alex was about to protest further, but was somewhat intrigued by the new light that Abel had cast on their playtime. She felt more vulnerable than normal with Abel fully clothed and herself in such a state of undress, hidden from his sight, but not from his touch. Alex closed her eyes against the now familiar feeling of Abel’s long fingers entering her. She had been quite aroused the second he fell to kissing her and his fingers slid in without the slightest hint of resistance. She moaned and turned her face to the right, into the couch back
“Look at me, Alexandra, don’t hide your passion from me.” Abel soothed her with his fingers, his warm breath falling against the exposed skin of her neck. She turned to look at him, his hair spilling around her, his smile warm and inviting.
“I can’t help it, you’re too good at doing this.”
“Then come for me and let me see your pretty face.”
Alex groaned, already close to granting his request. She clenched on his fingers and he groaned, his pants quite uncomfortable by now. Abel continued to fondle her, varying the pressure, angle, and speed until Alex was panting and writhing, on the very brink of her orgasm. The typical silence finally over took her and Abel increased his ministrations on her clit. Alex flushed beautifully in the firelight, her mouth opening to release a scream. Abel swiftly leaned down, capturing her mouth in a kiss and swallowing the scream she issued as her muscles clamped rhythmically on his fingers. He groaned as she bit into his lip, sucking rather hard. When he pulled back and grinned, Alex saw her teeth marks and the blood she’d drawn from his lower lip and immediately began to apologize.
“Shit! Abel, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I was being that rough. I’m so sorry.” Abel chuckled, a deep peculiar noise that made Alex shiver in delight.
“That was quite possibly the hottest thing you’ve ever done.”
“I know, I’m sor– wait. Did you just say ‘hottest’? Since when do you say hot?”
Abel never got to reply and before Alex knew what was going on her clothes were thrown at her, shoved underneath the blanket. When she pulled the blanket down from her face to confront Abel, he’d slipped his white gloves on, and pulled his hair back up.
“Tres, you’re back!” Alex made a quiet eep as she realized what was going on and struggled to do a camp change, wriggling into her clothes under the blanket.
“Status report, Father Nightroad.”
“I’m fine, Tres! Alex has been napping by the fire, but I’ll wake her so we can eat! Be so kind at to set the trays on the table over there.” Alex cringed again at his predictable change in manner. Alex finished with the last clasps and emerged from the blanket, struggling to right her tousled hair. Abel winked at her, smiling, his own hair looking perfect and the marks her teeth left already gone.
“Jerk!” Alex hissed under her breath as they approached the table. Her ire was soon forgotten as she sat to eat. The two of them ate while Tres watched over them. Alex slipped her bare foot up Abel’s leg to his thigh, feeling the hardened flesh he hid beneath his outer robe with the ridiculously high collar. Alex smiled into her own drink as Abel spluttered into his tea cup.
“Everything all right, Father?” Alex couldn’t possibly hide the grin that crept over her features.
“Oh quite! Tea’s just a trifle too warm, that’s all!” His voice remained in that high childish tone, but his eyes glittered with secret mischief from across the table.
