Pokemon League - Finals

Just in case someone wants to try – here are the clues the finalists in this League had to decipher to discover who the Elite Four members were:

Let’s start with some key characteristics for each of them by order:

Elite Nº1 – Ambition – Persistence

Elite Nº2 – Strength – Power

Elite Nº3 – Charisma – Knowledge

Elite Nº4 – Determination – Companionship

(Remember that it’s impossible not to be subjective when describing someone. Plus I couldn’t use features that would identify the characters too easily.)

Now for some miscellaneous clues:

- I wouldn’t stick just on people from this region if I were you guys *blink blink*. I’m not sure if in the games all the Elites are born in the respective regions but in my version I simply used characters that I consider strong enough to be Hoenn Champions;

- Remember my Disclaimer, it passed 10 years since the current storyline in Pokemon Emerald. That includes the Kanto/Johto and Sinnoh regions. (Simplifying -> all original characters from the Games/Anime are now at least 10 years older.)

- One of them never appeared in the Games and another one never showed up in the Anime. Forget about the Manga (since not many people read it =P);

- Some of this characters are sort of "related", what I mean is, after you discover one of them some of the others might become obvious;

- One of them is younger than the rest;

- None of them is a villain. However, that doesn’t mean they’re all “sugar spice and everything nice” either.

- I don’t think I need to say that the Nº1 is the weakest and the 4º the strongest, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to remember this. I used the official story to make the order, not personal opinion.

- I don’t care about gender, girls or boys, it’s all the same as long as they kick ass.

- They all use diversity, but they may have some preferences on the pokemon they use.

- There’s only one character among this that is actually hard to figure out, the others are easy if you think about it.

- Some characters have several names, example: Misty/Kasumi/Ondine. Also in the games sometimes you’re the one who chooses it. Make it simple, say the most obvious name to recognize the character (English please).

~*~*~*~ Pokemon League – Finals ~*~*~*~

It was the night before the finals and Jack stood outside his room in a large balcony, all six finalists had been moved to a fancy hotel nearby the entrance of the Elite Four battle arenas and everybody was sleeping in their respective rooms, except for him. The boy was used to luxury, but he had to admit the building and the rooms were amazing. However, his mind was far too busy to appreciate anything.

While staring at the starry sky he couldn’t stop thinking about his last encounter with Damien. After all, it was tomorrow that their bet would finally be decided, and Jack was now doubting that he would be the one to win.

*-------------Flashback--------------*

The pain was unbelievable, with every inch he tried to move his skin would feel like breaking, it was even slightly painful to breath, the doctor had given him some drugs but their effect seemed to be wearing off, he wanted to call someone, but it was too agonizing to reach the emergency button or to speak.

His friends and several nurses had just been there, but none of them understood he was fussing about wanting more drugs, they thought it was about not being able to compete. He really was upset about not going to the next round, but stopping the pain was his priority at the moment.

Finally he heard someone outside the door, hopefully a doctor or another nurse, but chills passed through his burned body when he recognized the owner of that voice.

“Hypno stay on guard hidden, if anyone else approaches this room make them fall asleep and erase their memories as well.” commanded the trainer.

The door opened and the Team Genesis leader entered the room, he was wearing common sophisticated clothes instead of the uniform.

The wounded boy tried to reach the emergency button again, this time ignoring the excruciating pain that it was causing him, but as Damien’s eyes glowed Jack felt unable to control his arm, which was now being forced to return to the bed.

“No need to move yourself, besides, in your frail state there is no possible way for you to move faster than me, just relax and avoid damaging yourself even further.” said the young man with dark red hair.

“Wt duy wat…?” asked Jack trying his best to speak.

“I want you to stop being an idiot, I can use telepathy just think about what you want to say.”

“Telepathy? Right…Do you think you’re GOD now? Freak.” he thought to himself.

“You don’t need to be a God to use Telepathy, in fact, even several common humans are able to use small Psychic abilities.” commented Damien to prove his ability.

“You gotta be fucking kidding me, how is this fucking possible?? And how did you teleport me to the Weather Institute last time??”

“I am in no disposition to be interrogated right now.”

“Like I give a shit, what are you going to do kill me?? Sure go ahead if that’s what you want, apparently vanishing for years and playing tricks with my mind isn’t enough for you, go ahead end this fucking pain!”

“I have no intension whatsoever to kill you, but I do intend to ease your pain, it’s the least I can do.”

“Fuck off, who the fuck do you think you are my saviour? Bah, there’s no way I’ll let you lay a finger on me without even explaining what the fuck did you turn yourself into.”

“Let’s just say that I…evolved. Even your tiny little brain will understand this metaphor.”

“Yeah treat me like an idiot like you always did, but sure if that’s how you want it…then at least explain how exactly did you…evolve?”

“Well after becoming a champion I became one with my pokemon…literally, that’s all you need to know for now.” he answered, making a chair move towards him all by itself and sitting on it.

“Freak. And why are you related to that weirdo bitch? Who the fuck are you people?”

“We are part of Team Genesis and we exist to change this world, later on you’ll understand, but right now, let’s make a deal.”

“A deal? You gotta be shitting me! What kind of deal?”

“Tell me Jack, do you think you can become a champion like I did?”

“Of course I can become a champion you shit face, but I’ll never be like you.”

“We’ll see about that, here’s the deal, I will heal your body allowing you to move further in this League. But…”

“But…?”

“If you lose without becoming a champion, you’ll have to come with me. However, if you win I’ll leave you alone…and cure your friend.”

“You mean Vi?”

“Yes of course, who else? Moron.”

“…how do I know you’re not lying?”

“I guess you don’t, you’ll just have to trust me.”

“Right…like that’s easy…”

“You should also know that in your current state without my help your body will never be the same again, those doctors are far too limited to save you from becoming disfigured for the rest of your life. So it’s a very good deal if you ask me.”

“…What did you mean by having to go with you? If I lose I’ll have to become a criminal like you and your Team?”

“We are not criminals, but yes you would have to join our side.”

“Not criminals? Sure you just go around raping people, what’s wrong with that?” Jack thought sarcastically.

“That’s not the point, you know nothing about us. But enough of this, do you want the deal or not?”

“I need to think about it.”

“Why? Are you afraid of being a loser? I thought you were going to become the greatest trainer ever…at least that’s what you used to say…maybe you changed your mind.”

“THERE IS NO WAY I’M GOING TO LOSE, IF A FUCKER LIKE YOU WON THIS LEAGUE SO CAN I!”

“So do we have a deal?”

“…Yes.” Jack answered out loud.

*-------------------------------------*

He began to regret that word, convincing himself that he seriously needs to work on his hot temperament. But now his mind was drifting into other thoughts.

Jack’s body began to shiver while he remembered what happened next, the painful feeling of his bandages being taken away and the refreshing green gel that replaced it. Damien’s soft hands glowing with a golden light spreading it slowly in every inch of his body repeatedly, just like a professional massage.

Apparently he used some sort of Synthesis on him, the gel was a mix made of several Grass Pokemon which allowed Damien’s healing powers to take a deeper affect on the burned skin. The idea of having dead pokemon parts spread on his skin wasn’t very pleasant, but he had to admit that was the most refreshing thing he had ever felt, the smell was also hypnotic.

Damien began by taking care of the boy’s arms, they were the most injured part of the body, and from the tip of the fingers to the shoulders he continuously slowly eased Jack’s pain. The skin wasn’t immediately healed, but it showed improvements at every second.

After that Jack recalls being lifted into the air and his rope flying away, leaving him completely naked while floating in the middle of the room, a few seconds later he was slowly descended into the bed again, but with his back up.

The hands circling around his sore backside created a feeling out of this world, but he suddenly felt awkward when his former lover began to massage his buttocks and his legs.

It felt like an eternity, in a good way, after so much pain that was Heaven, making him forget for a while about his hatred towards the cold young man.

When he got shifted back up the therapy was suddenly interrupted, making his mind return from the clouds. Damien made a bottle with a white substance appear in his hand and as they both began to glow in golden Jack was ordered to drink it, he reluctantly obeyed preferring not to know what it was, but the purpose was clear, since it immediately made his throat begin to sting and recover.

They returned to their ritual, healing everything from the face to the feet, except for one place that Damien apparently wanted to leave for the finale, and so he did, Jack got hard even before being touched in his private parts, which made Damien smirk, but cruelly he simply spread the gel teasingly and stopped before the boy could release himself.

After that Jack only remembers hearing Damien saying goodbye and good luck, he was far to aroused to think clearly at the time, but his arms were still very sore and he had no choice but to wait for several everlasting minutes until he could finish the job. Which was humiliatingly interrupted by a nurse that got shocked not only about what the boy was doing, but also because he wasn’t even suppose to be able to move.

Definitely one of his most embarrassing moments, but what was worrying him now was how much he had missed the other boy’s touch, he didn’t like the idea of being turned on by imagining having to go back to Damien, or about becoming pretty much his…slave.

Suddenly he flew back into reality and noticed it was three in the morning, this wasn’t time for him to be day-dreaming like a perverted school girl, his victory wasn’t just about his pride, his friend depended on it too, and she was his biggest reason for having no other choice but to win.

He slapped his face with both hands and went back inside to his room.

“I’m gonna win this shit. I’m gonna win this shit.” he repeated into his mind before finally falling asleep in his bed.

Round Five – Elite Four

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a day like all others in the stadium, all seats were full and everybody eagerly waited for the round to begin. However, today everyone was well aware that none of the matches were going to take place in the stadium itself, only the host and a gigantic screen filled the arena ready to broadcast to the world the very first view of the Hoenn League Finals.

“Good afternoon, my name is Cynthia and I’m one of the Pokemon World Champions, I’m here today to host this final round just like Wallace hosted it many years ago when it was my turn to battle in this League. This is very nostalgic to me, and I know what it feels like to be on the other side, the only difference is that back on my days we knew who we were going to be up against.

As you probably know, after the unfortunate event that happened three years ago the deceased Elite was replaced by four brave Champions that accepted to take their place, without worrying about the danger it might bring. And this year all four of them refused to battle unless their identities were finally revealed, because just as they said: true Champions should not hide their faces like the cowards that committed that horrendous crime.

Yes their intentions are honourable, but still security is necessary and so as always the matches will be in the Ever Grand City Battle Arenas, but we will now be able to view them by cameras, and we’ll be here to transmit everything that happens.”
said the beautiful blonde woman.

~*~*~*~*~

“This should be interesting, when it was our turn it was far too easy, those four didn’t stand a chance against any of us.” bragged Brad comfortably sitting in the VIP room.

“…That’s because we never fought the real Elite Four you idiot.” answered Ryo annoyed by his team mate’s stupidity.

“…What?” asked the young man confused.

“Please don’t tell me you never figured that out, why do you think they were killed in the first place? Team Rocket wanted to test our potential personally, so they murdered them one by one stole their pokemon and made some of their best agents change their appearance into looking exactly like them. All they wanted was to take over the Hoenn League and know if we were good enough for their experiments. I obviously didn’t know this when I was battling them, but I did notice their battle strategies were slightly different from what I had seen during the previous Leagues.” he answered with his usual bored attitude.

“Wait you’re telling me we only battled a bunch of Team Rocket agents? I always thought the Elite was killed for them to take over the League easily and change the rules, that way by increasing the difficulty every year, they get stronger test subjects.”

“Yeah that’s pretty much it you dumbshit, but didn’t you think it was awkward for all six contestants to win that year? We were indeed stronger than most trainers, but I honestly doubt Lilith would have defeated the true Elite Four back then, she was far to…braindead.”

“Wow wow calm down, do you have any proofs this shit is true? I mean come on how did they control the real pokemon? They would have refused to battle without their masters. And how did they kill such powerful opponents so easily in the first place?” wondered Brad.

“How am I suppose to know? Drugs probably, Team Rocket never plays fair, this is really what happened, even the police knew this after the autopsies, they just never revealed it to the public.”

“You gotta be fucking kidding me, so all this time and I’m not a true champion? After all Team Rocket did to us I seriously think this is the worst of all…But hey how do you have inside information on the police?”

“Are you really this clueless? We all have subordinates inside every important player, it’s obvious the police force isn’t an exception, I have an Officer Jenny on my side, she keeps me informed of everything that happens.”

“Duh I have subordinates in Team Magma too, I just didn’t know the one with police infiltrates was you, I figured it was either Damien or Nina you fuckface.”

“Don’t underestimate me Bradley, and you shouldn’t trust the others so much, if you don’t keep focused and gain your own informations you’ll be an easy pray for anyone that decides to betray us.”

“What…you think one of them might stab our back, what would they win with that?”

“Oh lord, even Lilith has been acting on her own but I see you’re nothing but one of Damien’s puppets. Prepare yourself for anything and don’t trust anybody, that’s all I can tell you.”

“Then why should I trust you? And Ryo don’t take me lightly either, just because I still have faith in people doesn’t mean I’m an idiot.”

“No…but it makes you a fool.”

“Fuck off.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Meanwhile, outside the entrance to the Elite Four Battle Rooms.

“Welcome contestants, please step in, your chance to battle the Elite Four will begin soon.” said a young man with long green hair opening the large glass door.

“It’s about goddamn time! We’ve been here being raped by the reporters for almost half an hour!!” complained Jack.

“Yes, sorry about that, our sponsors made sure you guys would have to give some interviews before being able to enter, this is a big event.” he answered.

“Very well, but can we please move on now?” asked Darian somewhat upset about the waste of time.

“Of course, follow me, my name is Tracey I’ll be your first guide during this round and explain the main rules. Please sit down.” he said pointing at some comfortable sofas.

The room was incredibly large, at the end of it was a locked door with two guards, on the right was a PokeCenter balcony with two giggly nurses, and on the left was a PokeMart with plenty of merchandise and items. The sofas were on the left corner in front of the shop, but the distance was very significant, and on the wall next to them was a large plasma screen TV.

Vi noticed there where two pokemon standing in the opposite walls of the room, a Lunatone and a Solrock, but since they didn’t move she just figured they were statues.

“I can see you noticed our security pokemon, don’t worry about them, they’re here just block any access to the outside with their Psychic abilities.” informed Tracey.

“What for? It’s not like any of us needs to cheat that desperately.” complained Jack again, this time because he had actually considered using Raito to discover information on the upcoming broadcast battles.

“Don’t feel offended, we needed to take precautions, besides these pokemon are prepared to prevent any kind of intruders, so it’s also for your safety. But aside from that, let me begin to explain how this will work.

Do you see this screen here? This is actually connected to one of our computers, in here you’ll have the same information the referee has. In other words, you’ll only see the pokemon of each contestant that was sent into battle and their Health Points that are being calculated by the computer, when they reach zero the battle must end to avoid serious injuries. You’ll also see the Health Points of the Elite members, but it wont show which pokemon it is.

But don’t worry about that, all Elites will send their pokemon first, that allows you contestants to have better choices.” he explained.

“Really? But doesn’t that give us an upper hand against them?” asked Tiphanie, obviously nervous about the upcoming battle.

“It might give you a small advantage, but trust me my dear, you’ll need more than just Type Advantage to defeat these guys.”

“So besides our battling skills they also want to examine our choices and strategies, is that it?” asked Sam.

“Yes exactly, most of them don’t care about winning or losing, they just want to see what the new generation of trainers is made of.

But I must warn you about something, do you know why so many people lost against them?” asked the pokemon watcher.

“I heard most trainers were defeated or gave up during the second round, some of them even had their pokemon seriously injured during it.” answered Alex with a serious tone.

“Exacly. There were even deaths once, the second Elite was warned to cool down this year, but between you and me…I’d watch out if I were you.

He’ll give you an offer in the middle of the battle, and trust me, if by then you’re not sure of yourself, take it…there is no shame whatsoever in it.”

“Why do you allow someone like that to stay in the League?” asked Vi.

“He’s not a bad person, he just has some…twisted ideal when it comes to pokemon training.

But now let’s talk about the other rules, there isn’t much time left. You can use any sort of item you want, including revives, but obviously…so can them.

However, they rarely do, actually I don’t think I ever saw Elite number two and number four using a single potion during battles…

The other rules are pretty much normal, it will be 6 against 6 pokemon battles, you can switch them whenever you want and after the match is over the referee will also help you to heal them.

There is only one big difference from the last years. The Elites didn’t like the idea of handing out or gaining money with this, so instead of currency you will win special prizes, they look like badges but their value is immense, you wont lose with this, in fact, if you decide to sell the prizes, you’ll make much more money than the other players did in previous years.

Any doubts?” Tracey finished.

*Nue puts her hand in the air*

“Who goes first?” she asked.

“That will be determined randomly by the computer as well, so as soon as it turns on and the count down begins, that means the host in the stadium has finished her introduction and the network is ready to broadcast the battles. When it goes down to 0 the colour, picture and name of the contestant will appear and so he or she must enter the first room.” the young man explained before being interrupted by the sound of the screen turning on, “And it seems I have a really good timing, get ready, it’s about to start.”

Red Division – Tiphanie

-------------------------------

“What…ME?? You gotta be kidding! I don’t wanna go first!” she said nervous.

“It’ll be ok, good luck.” said Vi.

“Good luck.” everybody else added pretty much at the same time.

“Come on dear, I’ll take you to the door and don’t worry, most of them are pretty nice guys.” Tracey said commanding the guards to open the door.

“I guess this is it…*breaths in*, I can do it!” Nue declared after finally taking the first steps into the large corridor.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Our first contestant is a smart young woman from the Red Division, her name is Tiphanie and she’s a diversity user. Her hobbies are reading and taking care of pokemon.” announced Cynthia as the audience watched the contestant speaking with the referee and walking towards the first Elite.

Everyone that was viewing the finals was cheering for the girl, but their attention was now focused on the figure hidden in the shadows of the room. It was only after the lights went on that the commentaries began to spread.

“That’s the first Elite? He’s so young…he can’t be much older than the girl herself.” complained some people.

“He’s so cute!” teased several girls.

“I remember him! He’s a Hoenn champion! He was one of the youngest contestants to ever beat the old Elite!” remembered some of the older viewers.

Everybody focused on hearing the conversation between both players, but now their eyes were attracted to the first pokemon sent into the arena, it was beautiful and powerful.

Tiphanie had trouble in the beginning, falling for some traps from her opponent, but after setting her mind straight she fought back, giving all she had. Several minutes later three of her pokemon were defeat and the Elite had lost only two. But with plenty of strategies Nue turned the battle around by finding fast ways to take down the powerful opponents, which appeared to be pleasing the Elite.

However, it wasn’t so easy, and in the end Tiphanie had only Item, her Ditto to fight against the last two pokemon of the Champion. The first one was hard to defeat, but the second was a complete cliff hanger, and when everybody expected the Elite to take down the girl, she defended herself striking back with a large amount of power.

The Elite smiled as he called back his pokemon, he had seen enough, and so everyone cheered when they saw the girl receive her first prize.

“I guess this round begins with a great victory! And now while we wait for her to heal her pokemon, I’ll give you a quick biography on the First Elite Member…” informed Cynthia.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Man that was close, I guess the first guy isn’t as easy as I thought.” said Jack thinking out loud.

“Out of all he’s the one with less experience, that’s why he loves to battle, with every single victory or defeat he learns something new. I can see by her list of pokemon that she had Type Advantage against most of her opponents, he probably knew this so he used his best pokemon first to scare her, and left the others for the finale, that way he forced her to adjust to the situations instead of just trying to have an upper hand.” said Tracey smiling.

“You can tell which pokemon the Elite used just by staring at HP bars?” asked Alex.

“I’ve seen all of them battle for years, by now I can tell who is who by the damage inflicted or by the chosen adversaries. She began by using a Haunter, a Ghost type, that can only mean he used a Psychic to begin…plus, since this is the first time he appears on TV as an Elite, it makes sense for him to make a debut with his favourite pokemon.”

“I guess you know them pretty well, and you just told us that his best pokemon is a Psychic, thanks for the tip.” answered the Yellow Division winner.

“Even if I gave you a complete list of all their pokemon it still wouldn’t ensure your victory.”

“So will you give us one?” wondered Jack grinning.

“Of course not, I don’t wanna get fired.”

“The next battle is starting.” said Darian slightly pointing at the screen, it was now showing on the right a picture of Nue above all her pokemon and interrogation signs on the left, representing the second Elite’s pokemon.

The first interrogation sign gained colour along with a HP bar, and a few seconds later so did the image of Nue’s Gallade.

Everyone was shocked to see the Gallade’s Health Points being dropped to zero in three consecutive strikes, he hardly had a chance to fight back.

“What just happened…?” asked Vi in disbelieve.

“Probably an attack that increases damage with every hit, no wonder the second Elite has such a bad popularity.” answered Sam.

Nue’s second pokemon was her Haunter, and a few seconds later they could see only the HPs of the adversary being dropped slowly.

“She must have set a Curse on him, and now he doesn’t seem to be able to hit the Ghost pokemon like he did last time.” mentioned Jack.

But right after he finished his words they saw the image of the Haunter losing it’s colour, it had been a one hit KO.

“You gotta be shitting me…” he said in disbelieve.

Her next choice was a Salamance, who immediately took down the opponent. A new pokemon was quickly sent by the Elite, and after a long battle between both pokemon Nue was finally victorious for now.

After the Elite unleashed a new pokemon, they could see the contestant quickly switching the Salamance for an Arcanine.

“Oh no.” mumbled Tracey.

“What?” asked Jack curious.

“This is bad…” he answered.

“Why?” several contestants asked.

“You’ll see.”

The adversary seemed to have taken a little bit of damage. However, a few seconds later the Arcanine was defeated and after some minutes so was the Ditto she had sent afterwards.

“It must be a pokemon with a high level of defence, with every hit taken he hardly receives any damage.” said Alex.

“Yes…it’s his starter pokemon, he normally leaves him for the end, so that can only mean he’s testing her.” informed the guide.

The image of the Salamance gained colour again and the HP bar increased, meaning that a potion was probably used. The opponent took a big blow this time, but right after that the bars began to move in opposite directions, while the Salamance hit zero, the opponent went back to the max.

“…”

“Holy shit.” cursed Jack.

“She made a bad decision, to try to take down her opponent she must have used a powerful attack, those normally force the pokemon to rest afterwards and regain strength. That’s all he needed to use his famous strike.” thought Tracey.

“It seems she only has her Empoleon now.” noticed Alex interested in the battle.

“She began by using an Arcanine and this last attack was probably a Giga Drain, that can only mean the opponent is most likely a Grass Type, if that’s the case an Empoleon shouldn’t be able to take him down.” guessed Darian.

However, this time the battle began by the opponent taking a big blow followed by several countless smaller hits that eventually made him reach zero, so for a while everyone just stared speechless at the screen .

“I guess she must have gone berserk on him…” finally commented Jack.

Suddenly the words “Victory – Tiphanie” appeared on the screen.

“WHAT??” shouted pretty much everyone.

“But he still had three pokemon left, what happened…?” asked Vi numbed.

“It’s probably the deal I told you guys about, you’ll see once it’s your turn.” answered Tracey with a serious tone.

“…”

“Ok I need to use the bathroom, is there one in here?” asked Jack lifting himself up from the sofa.

“It’s right over there.” pointed Tracey.

“Maybe this wont be as bad as I thought…” dreamed the boy walking to the rest room.

After returning he noticed the thirst battle had already begun.

“Ah dammit it...what happened when I was gone?”

“She defeated the first opponent in three strikes, but now she’s having a though time against this one.” answered Vi.

Jack looked at the screen and saw that three of her pokemon had already been defeated, the one battling now was her Gallade, but it didn’t take long for him to join his fallen comrades.

Nue finally defeated the fearsome opponent, but by then she had only her Arcanine left, the girl did revive and heal her Empoleon, but still she was eventually defeated by the third Elite.

“Damn it.” said Sam.

“He must be tough…” comment Vi now worried and scared about her turn.

“The third Elite is hard to fool, to defeat him you’ll need to over smart him.” assumed the guide.

~*~*~*~*~

“It’s such a shame to see such a sudden lost, but it was a good match and Tiphanie reached very far for a first try, I’m sure she’ll become a great champion in the future.

Also we already had the opportunity to see three of the four Elites, only one to go. Perhaps the next contestant will be able to reveal him for us.

Alex Pendragon is a carefree trainer from the town of Rustboro, with faith in his pokemon he battles mostly for the enjoinment of the battle itself.

It seems we’re ready to go again, so let’s watch carefully how the Yellow Division winner battles his last round.”
announced the blonde champion.

“The Yellow Division huh? That means he’ll be your subordinate if he wins. It’s such a pity that pretty girl didn’t make it, I kinda liked her.” commented Bradley laying in his sofa.

“I have no need for new subordinates, besides I’ve seen him battle before, he may be a good trainer but he doesn’t share my believes.” answered Ryo bored.

“Don’t tell me you only like specialists in Water Pokemon, seriously you’ll end up with a tiny little army if you keep up like this.”

“You’d be surprised, and quality will always beat quantity.”

“Right…”

Yellow Division – Alex

-------------------------------

“Me?” he asked pointing at himself, “oh well…now or later it doesn’t really matter anyways, I guess it’s time to go kick some Elite ass.” joked the young man scratching his spiky white hair.

Everyone cheered for him as he walked towards the door, and after all they could see was his silver jacket disappearing into the dark they refocused their attention into the screen.

It didn’t take much until the bars and pictures appeared again, this time with a list of Alex’s pokemon.

Typholosion was the first pokemon to gain colour, and even after losing a large amount of his HP he was able to take down two opponents, giving Alex a great start in the round.

However, he was eventually replaced by Yeknam, the Primape fought until the adversary was almost knocked out, but unfortunately he fainted first.

After that defeat Alex seemed to be taking extra precautions, making the battles last longer. And so after almost thirty minutes he took down all his opponents, finishing with only a fallen pokemon, and four slightly damaged ones.

“Nice.” said Jack.

“It was a wise choice to take extra time, this Elite loves to play tricks and set traps.” commented Tracey almost laughing.

“I wonder how he’ll battle against the next one, I’m not sure if that guy will even allow him to breath.” said Vi.

“Yop, the second Elite was never known for his patience.” answered the guide.

~*~*~*~*~*~

“It might be my second defeat today, but I guess I have no reasons to feel upset, actually I hope I lose all battles, otherwise there will be no champions this year!” said the young Elite playing with his green hair.

“Well it seems our Elite youngster is having a good time, but I doubt the next one will share his feelings, Alex is already moving towards the next room, so let’s all wish him the best of luck.” hosted Cynthia.

Not many words were shared before the battle begun, and after seeing the Elite’s first choice Alex realised what probably happened to Nue and her Gallade. And so to avoid the same fate he unleashed his Gengar.

“A ghost? You’re not very smart are you? Oh well, Hyper Beam now.”

However, Alex knew what he was doing and defeated his opponent quickly using Psychic and Electric attacks. After that the battles doubled their intensity, but still no matter how much damage the Elite inflicted the young man always turned the battles around, winning in the end.

After the Elite had lost three pokemon Alex was tired and had several worn out pokemon, but still he preferred to refuse the proposal given to him.

Three battles later he only had three exhausted pokemon left to fight the last opponent, nevertheless, with the use of a great strategy he fully defeated the second champion, making him grin in a somewhat frightening way.

“Oh my, this was faster than what I had expected I must admit, Alex is on a winning strike after this last two battles, I hope he’ll be able to keep it up during the next ones.” said the host.

~*~*~*~*~

“Hell yeah, that’s what I’m talking about! This guy is probably gonna win.” cheered Jack lifting himself from his seat.

“It’s too soon to be celebrating, apparently the third Elite is different from the previous ones.” commented Darian.

“Yeah, I heard a rumour saying that he’s actually a professor, if that is true, than he probably knows more about pokemon than all of us together.” completed Sam.

“Partypoopers.” joked Jack.

“Professor or not everybody has weak points, let’s see if Alex can figured them out.” said Vi pointing at the starting battle.

Just like during Tiphanie’s battle the first pokemon from the Elite was quickly defeated, but the second one lasted for a long time, taking down Alex’s Electrode and Lapras before being defeated by the his Graveler.

For the third opponent Alex decided to send his Typholosion instead, and for the first time Type Advantage actually worked well for him after a long battle.

However, after seeing his next opponent he regretted using Ragnarok so soon, but still he didn’t remove him until he fainted, since the pokemon was able to apply a large amount of damage in the adversary.

With only two opponents left Alex thought it was almost over, but to be able to defeat the fifth pokemon he had to revive three of his, since everyone that he sent into battle ended up defeated quickly.

After the exhausted Electrode finally defeated the mighty adversary, only one was left and Alex hadn’t used his Gengar yet.

The battle was long, and the other contestants could only see bars lowering and rising for a long time, but when Alex was almost reaching his limit he revive one of his pokemon before the Gengar fainted simultaneously with the opponent. Making the screen turn into the Victory mode.

“…”

“I guess he must have used a Destiny Bond.” said the girl.

“Yes, if the Third Elite had also used revives he would be in trouble, but I never saw any of them using those, it wouldn’t be fair for you contestants.”

“How come this guy has five tough pokemon but always starts with a weak ass one?” asked Jack.

“It’s probably a pokemon bait.” said Darian.

“A what?”

“Basically it’s a pokemon you use only to examine the opponent, to see their strategies and battle style.” explained Sam.

“That might work at first but none of us is gonna fall for that now.” finished Vi.

“Well see about that…” joked Tracey grinning.

“…”

~*~*~*~*~

“And so the Third Elite tastes his first defeat this year, I know everyone’s excited to see if Alex becomes the new champion but I bet you’re all even more eager to see the final Elite.

Let’s just take a very short break and all that will be revealed once we return.”

“You’re still sure you don’t want him?” asked Brad joking.

~*~*~*~

“The last Elite must be one hell of a pro if he’s better than those three.” wondered Jack.

*Tracey laughs*

“What’s so funny?” asked Sam lifting his eyebrow.

“Don’t get me wrong, the last Elite really is a pro, but he’s not the best one because of strength or knowledge…he’s just different.”

“Different?”

“You’ll see.”

“It’s starting already? If I was Alex I would take a while to rest.” said the girl

“I guess he can’t wait any longer, resting wouldn’t be bad idea actually.” agreed the guide.

“Hum…how come the Elite has two colourful bars?” asked Darian pointing at the top and bottom of the screen.

“That’s because he keeps one of his pokemon outside his pokeball, by doing that the computer has no choice but to determine the HP of both. Don’t worry he can only use one pokemon at a time, using more than one would be illegal.”

“So how do we know which one he’s using?” asked Vi.

“He always uses the same order of pokemon during these championships, that means he’ll only use the last one in the finale.”

During the first three battles nothing special seemed to be happening, the battles were long and normal, the HP dropped slowly from both and the victories were tied up with both of them having two fainted pokemon.

“This guys is the final Elite? He looks like a normal fighter.” complained Jack.

“That’s because you’re not watching the real battle, if you look closely you’ll notice that the amount of hits received by the Elite is much larger than the ones Alex got. Actually I’d say that this current pokemon has been hit by twenty attacks already.”

“What? Is he a defence specialist or something?” asked Sam.

“Not at all, he and his pokemon are just… purely stubborn.”

“Huh?”

“He has a great resistance, by now Alex must be fully exhausted and the Fourth Elite is fresh as Lettuce.”

“Fuck, Alex just lost another pokemon. If he really is tired than he better stay strong, he still has four pokemon to defeat.” commented Jack.

The Electrode finally defeated the third pokemon, but lost quickly against the next one, Alex now had to begin reviving fallen pokemon, which was risky since they had been battling for a long time since the round began, potions may heal, but they don’t replace a good long rest.

Even so, with a lot of effort coming from the Typholosion and the Gengar there was only two to go.

The Fifth pokemon took an unbelievable amount of time to defeat, having to battle five of Alex’s pokemon before finally being knocked out.

So now it was all or nothing, Alex had four pokemon about to faint for battling the last opponent, but still he had the advantage of numbers. Nevertheless, it wasn’t that easy, loosing two of them, but finally his Graveler took down the final pokemon. Making the screen show for the very first time the message: “Champion – Alex”.

“HELL YEAH!!” shouted the excited Green Division contestant.

“Amazing…Alex actually withstood the pressure of this battle, he must be extremely fatigued by now but none of that matters…he won.” thought Tracey out loud.

“I feel much more confident right now, apparently the Elites really are tremendously strong…but their not unbeatable..” commented the girl.

“You gotta be kidding the count down it’s starting again already??” asked Sam looking at the TV.

“Yeah well, there will only be a long break after half the matches, before that the Elites heal their pokemon while there are still battles in the other rooms.”

“Can’t we even celebrate for a freaking second?” complained Jack.

Purple Division – Darian

-------------------------------

“…”

“I guess it’s my turn now. Good luck guys.” he said.

“Shouldn’t we be the ones saying good luck to you…?” asked Vi confused but smiling.

~*~*~*~*~*~

“Incredible, it has been a while since the last time we had a full victory, Alex is now officially a Hoenn Champion!

It will be my pleasure to personally award him in the end, but for now it’s time to prepare for the next battle, hopefully we will end up with even more victors this year.

Darian Zanzibar, the next contestant, is a former Indigo Plateau League Champion and was an archeology student at the university of Celadon City, where he graduated as a top student.

So let’s watch and hope for a new rising champion!”
cheered Cynthia.

The screen now showed the image of a young man with frail features. However, his azure eyes showed nothing but confidence as he walked through the corridor towards the first Elite.

After his arrival, they talked for a while, mostly about the last two battles, but it didn’t take long for the match to begin.

The first Elite tried the same old tricks on the new contestant, and at first they did seem to take some effect but Darian didn’t waste any time before fighting back, he hadn’t been able to fully see the previous battles, but he had a general idea of what he was up against.

The pokemon that fought the most during the match was Draco, his Dragonite, not only for the obvious Type Advantage but also for his battle experience. The battles were somewhat long, since none of the players risked doing any careless attacks, but after Darian saw right through his opponents strategies he took down his pokemon one by one and gained his first victory with only two slightly injured companions.

With the help of the referee he healed their wounds before moving on towards the next door, he was slightly nervous about what to expect from the second Elite, but he was also curious to see what his proposal was all about.

After entering the room he immediately recognized his next opponent, he had heard of him before, and so he knew the battle ahead wouldn’t be easy.

And it wasn’t, Darian refused to use unnecessary violence in order to defeat his adversary, but strategy itself didn’t seem to be working well, one of his pokemon had already fainted.

However, he wasn’t willing to give up on his ideals so soon, showing a great demonstration of the power gained by the bonds between a trainer and his pokemon.

Some battles later the opportunity to accept the offer finally arrived, but without thinking twice he refused it.

For that he paid with a lot of sweat and blood during the next battles, getting his dear Blastoise seriously electrified.

Nevertheless his efforts weren’t futile, giving him a well deserved victory against the ruthless Elite.

~*~*~*~*~*

“It seems Darian is doing as well as Alex did, they’re both pretty amazing.” said Vi.

“Don’t throw the party yet, there are still two more Elites to come.” answered Sam.

“Yeah well, he’s already defeating the first pokemon of the third dude.” pointed out Jack, staring at the screen.

The Purple Division winner had began to battle the Third Elite right after successfully healing all of his pokemon, but just like all previous contestants, the first pokemon was defeated within a few minutes, only to reveal the trainer’s battle strategies.

“Darian used Draco right on the start…I guess he fell for the same trap as the others did…” noticed the girl.

But still he kept the same pokemon for the second battle and the result of that was a pretty tied up battle, but still Draco lost in the end.

Shelldon, the Blastoise, was released next to finish what his team mate had started, and he successfully did so, but the battles ahead were tough and after four of the Elite’s pokemon, Darian had no choice but to begin using Revives since he refused to use his last pokemon, which had an interrogation mark instead of a picture, just like on the Elite’s side of the screen.

“Why would he carry into the finals a pokemon that he doesn’t wanna use?” wondered Jack.

“Maybe it's his favourite…” guessed Vi.

The last two battles were incredibly hard, the audience that was viewing them live was devouring every minute wanting to know the final result, but for the remaining three contestants it was a boring long time with the HP bars moving slowly.

Finally the winner was announced, Darian had just defeated the last pokemon using his Jolteon, having only one Elite member left to face.

“Sweet.” said the white haired boy happily, he was now getting more secure about his ability to win.

~*~*~*~*~

“Breathtaking until the very last moment…I guess we really may have a new champion on the way. Let’s give him and his pokemon a little time to rest and then we’ll see his fate.” said Cynthia.

“So…if this guy wins then Bianca gets a new soldier? It’s not fair she already has a champion.” asked Bradley breaking the silence.

“No, she will not capture him.” answered Damien teleporting himself into the room.

“Have you nothing better to do than sneaking up on people leader?” joked Ryo.

“You two need to stop acting like the fiends that captured us, Gabriel joined Bianca willingly, and so will all future Team Genesis members, nobody will be forced into our side, I’ll make sure of that.”

“Great…so we’ll be waiting centuries until we find Hoenn Champions that agree with our ideals, awesome plan…” sarcastically commented the Dragon Champion.

“We no longer need to use the leagues for finding worthy trainers, ever since Lilith took over Team Rocket I’ve been studding their inventions, I recreated and improved the machine they used on us. From now on I can create new members whenever I want and better than before.”

“…”

“So we get to pick anybody? Whenever we want?”

“Yes…if that is what they wish.” answered Damien.

“Now that’s more like it.” agreed both Ryo and Bradley for the first time.

“The contestant seems to be ready to go, this will probably be the toughest battle he has faced until now, so let’s watch it carefully, it’s not every day that we are able to see the birth of new champions…or their defeat.” announced the host, while Darian walked to the final room.

They didn’t exchange many words, the young man was eager to fight for his title and the Elite wanted to redeem his last defeat. So the first battle was intense, damaging the room even more than it was before, Darian had advantage by using a Fire Type against a Grass one, but still he lost due to a powerful paralysis on his Arcanine.

The second battle turned things around, and Seeds, the Exeggutor managed to defeat both the tired first opponent and the second one, but as a side effect he got too tired to move on, giving Darian no choice but to take him back.

Dracon, the Dragonite, took his place fighting fiercely against the next pokemon and eventually taking the victory, but the battle was about change, and it did right after the fourth adversary was sent into battle.

Afterwards a series of numerous passionate battles began as the pokemon were constantly falling and rising again. But as the dreadfull fifth pokemon appeared, not even Darian's revived pokemon seemed to be able to defeat him, making the Elite bring back his honor by showing what he was made off, as his fifth companion took down Darian’s best and final pokemon. However, the Elite was enjoying the match, so before taking a final blow against his adversary he stopped.

“Why aren’t you giving your best?” he asked.

“I am.” Darian simply answered.

“Then why aren’t you using your last pokemon? Do you want to lose?”

“No, but I can’t, this is being shown to the whole world, I can’t send him into battle like this.”

“So that’s what’s troubling you? Flamethrower at the ceiling now.” he commanded.

And so those were the last words and images the audience was going to see of that battle, since afterwards all that was being broadcast was statics.

“Hum..we seem to be having some technical troubles…I’m sure it will be back soon…” tried to reassure Cynthia to the angry audience.

~*~*~*~*~

“Hey look, Darian has just sent in his mysterious pokemon.” noticed Vi.

“Yeah but we still only get to see an interrogation mark, I wonder what’s going on inside of that room.” mentioned Sam.

“The last Elite wont let anyone pass him until he has seen their full potential, he doesn’t mind losing, but doing it against someone that didn’t give their best would be the biggest offence for him.” said Tracey.

They watched carefully as the HP from the powerful fifth opponent went down, turning the match into a one on one with both their last pokemon.

For the final battle all they could witness was the bars decreasing and increasing madly, not having any idea of what was happening, but still, it was the most anyone ever saw and they were the only ones to watch Darian take the title, as the screen showed once again the triumph message “Champion – Darian”.

“Holy shit two in a row…” said Jack amazed.

~*~*~*~*~

“Well…we may not be able to broadcast this battle, but I am happy to announce that Darian has just won! He is the second contestant to defeat the Hoenn League this year! Again we are very sorry for the disturbance, we’ll be talking a break now and after everything is back to normal it’s time for the next player to go in. Meanwhile, we’ll be showing the best moments of this round up until now…” informed the lovely host.

A while had passed since the last victory, so all three teenagers were glued to the screen silently waiting to see which of them would be next.

Blue Division – Sam

----------------------------------

The boy swallowed hard, his family was depending on this victory, he couldn’t lose. Both his friends cheered him on but he could hardly listen to them, all he cared about right now was winning.

After he entered the door Vi and Jack glued themselves back into the TV, returning to the sofa only after seeing Sam defeat all the pokemon from the first Elite.

The second battle was fast, awkwardly fast, because Sam fought only three pokemon.

The opposite happened with the Third Elite, it was long and tedious for those that couldn’t understand what was happening, but even with only his Medichan left Sam gained his victory.

Jack and Vi were pretty much turned into stone watching the last battle, none of them could even speak which wasn’t normal. But after several minutes their mood changed into screaming hysterically when the screen showed the message “Champion – Sam”.

“Oh my God that fucker actually did it…” said Jack.

“He’s a Champion, Sam is officially a Champion!” added Vanessa trying to calm herself down.

“Vi listen…no matter what happens next…I just want you to know that I…”

Green Division – Jack

----------------------------------

“Oh man…” he mumbled swallowing hard.

“What is it Jack?” she wondered, his face looked strange, well stranger than a face someone would make because of being nervous, he was completely petrified.

“I…I…it’s nothing…” Jack gasped walking away slowly, “AH SCREW IT!”” he shouted before running back and grabbing her face for a fiery goodbye kiss.

“ARE YOU INSANE?? DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME??”

“Don’t worry about it, it won’t hurt me this time. Wish me good luck.” he said looking much more confident.

“Good Luck…”

Vi sat back and watched the bars going up and down. However her mind was elsewhere, coming back from the clouds only after the battle against the second Elite was starting. She didn’t saw a thing about what happened during the first one.

Just like Sam, Jack fought only three pokemon, but to defeat those it took him much more time than his rival did.

“Your friends seem to be desperate to win if they both accepted the offer so quickly.” said Tracey, but since she didn’t know what the offer was she couldn’t answer that.

A bad chill went down her spine right at the beginning of the third battle, Jack defeated the first opponent in one strike, but lost two in a row against the second one. It took him three pokemon to defeat the third, but when facing the fourth one he just couldn’t make it. Vi’s heart dropped to her feet, Jack had lost.

Time seemed to have stopped after that and the girl woke up only when Tracey began to shake her, after all, the words “Orange Division – Vanessa” had already shown up in the screen.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Vi walked her first steps into the large corridor, taking one last look at Tracey who was wishing her good luck, but as soon as she stepped away from the entrance the doors closed, giving her the awful feeling that now there was no turning back.

She heard footsteps coming from afar and it didn’t take long until someone approached the nervous girl.

“Hello my dear, my name is Brock, you may have heard of me before, but today I’m here as your referee and guide so there is no need to be scared little lady…” said the tall tanned man before being startled by something behind his back, “…Toxicroak cut it out, I’m not flirting GODAMMIT I’m just being POLITE!” he complained to the pokemon prepared to “attack”.

“Yes I do think I know you, weren’t you the one that won the breeding award five times in a row? That’s amazing....” she asked.

“Yop that’s me…I dedicated my life into becoming the best breeder in the world, but during the leagues I normally help out controlling the battles and evaluating the pokemon’s health, I can also give you a hand in healing them after each match.”

“Thanks! It’s an honor to meet you sir, I actually use the recipes in your book to cook food for my pokemon! Hey is that really a Toxicroak? I’ve never seen one before…aren’t they poisonous? *uses pokedex* ” said the girl now more curious than uneasy.

“Please call me Brock…*I’m not that old am I?* and don’t let this little guy scare you, he’s actually a very good fellow. Come on it’s time for your first match Vanessa, I watched all matches during this league, so I can tell that you shouldn’t have many problems against the first Elite, after all…he’s pretty much like you.” he added.

“Hum? Like me? What do you mean?” she wondered.

“You’ll see.” Brock finished grinning.

As soon as the corridor finished they entered a large beautiful room, the walls were covered with large green crystals and the arena was filled with a strange glittery sand. A young man with green hair stood there eagerly waiting to battle, he had a normal white blouse and large grey pants with a silver chain on the side.

“Hello, I guess this will be my last battle today, I’ve lost five times in a row…so you better watch out cause I want some revenge.” he announced.

“Hey I think I know you too…aren’t you Aaron from the Sinnoh Elite Four?” guessed Vi.

“…”

“Oh boy…” mumbled Brock.

“No…I…am…not…my name is Wally, WALLY! Why must everybody confuse me with Aaron huh? Just because we both have the same hair color?? That’s discrimination! I don’t even like Bug Pokemon!!” raged the young man.

“Oops sorry…Now he must really wanna kick my ass….” Vi feared.

“Let me do the honors. Vanessa this is Wally, he was the youngest trainer ever to reach the Champion title, by now he’s probably around your age and already gained the position of the First Hoenn Elite, so please show him some respect.” introduced the referee while moving on towards the side of the arena, where the main computer was.

“I’m very sorry I didn’t mean to offend you.” she apologized politely bowing down, “come on this is it, your turn to become a Champion, don’t think about Jack…you are you, he is he…” Vi repeated to herself in her mind.

“It’s ok, I guess I’m just upset after so many losses…but now let’s get this party started, Altaria GO!” commanded the Elite.

A mighty pokemon quickly entered the arena, its wings were incredibly long and the specimen itself was unbelievably beautiful.

“An Altaria huh? I remember Tracey saying this Elite always plays tricks at first, and with this glittery arena…” she thought, “Go Luna!”.

“Cute Absol…but let’s see how she handles this…Altaria use Sand Storm and Sky Attack!”

And so the arena changed, the entire room was now filled with a shiny fog making it impossible to see anything except for the reflection of the light in the small crystals.

“Luna dodge and use Blizzard!” commanded the girl.

It took a while for the frozen hurricane of dust to settle down, and after it did they were now able to see the Absol quietly sitting down while the Altaria was frozen solid.

“…How did you…”

“I guess coming in last has its advantages, plus it’s just like Brock said, if I’m like you than using this shiny sand as a cover and attack would be my first move.” Vi answered.

“Interesting…so we’re both tactical trainers, but let’s see who is the best…go Kecleon!” challenged the Elite switching his pokemon.

The small pokemon quickly disappeared after being launched out of his pokeball and with a command from his trainer he tried to use Fury Swipes.

“Luna use Ice Beam now.” calmly ordered Vi, making the Absol turn around and make a direct hit against the opponent.

“How is that possible? My Kecleon is a master at hiding itself, most pokemon can’t even detect his smell or sound.” complained Wally.

“Strategies that depend on taking the opponents accuracy won’t work against this Absol, look closely into her eyes, she’s blind…plus this species is good at detecting climate changes, so she can sense the heat of her opponents.” explained the trainer.

“I see, I can’t believe I fell for that same trick twice, you’re not the first one to use it against me. Oh well…Shiftry avenge your comrades.”

A mighty Shiftry quickly appeared in front of Luna, but unfortunately for the blind pokemon all attacks she tried to send were avoided with the use of wind, so she was eventually taken down.

“I knew it was too easy to be true…good job Luna you were great, but now it’s time for your baby brother to take the stage, go Aster!”

“A Ninetails…how predictable, fire against grass.” mumbled the Elite.

“Aster use Sand Attack and Sacred Fire you know what to do.” commanded Vi.

“You gotta be kidding me, don’t underestimate me little girl there is no way I’d fall for my own trick! Shiftry use Defog to take away the sand!”

The sand quickly flew away revealing his opponent. However, there was another one standing right behind the surprised pokemon.

“Damn it she used Subsitute! Strike the real one behind you now!”

The Shiftry slashed the opponent behind him right before being attacked, but unfortunately for him the one he took down was the clone, so within a matter of seconds he got struck by a powerful Sacred Fire from across the room, sent by the real Ninetails.

“I can’t believe I got hit by such an old trick…this really isn’t my day…Shiftry come back…Roserade it’s your turn…” said Wally ashamed.

Lots of beautiful white flames flew across the arena as the Ninetails didn’t hesitate to attack with Will-O-Wisp, the Roserade used his quick moves to avoid most of them but was eventually struck. However, after a long battle, they both fainted simultaneously after Aster was hit by a Hyper Beam.

“That’s impossible, my Roserade wasn’t burned enough to faint….” said Wally upset.

“No he wasn’t, he still had half his Health Points.” said Brock checking the computer.

“Aster used Destiny Bond, he may be a Fire Type but he knows plenty of Ghost Moves.”

“First a blind Absol and now a ghost Ninetails…are you the little sister of the Champion Gabriel or something?” asked the Elite.

“What?”

“Gabriel was the only person to defeat me with a leg behind his back, it can’t be a coincidence that your pokemon are just like his.”

“I never met Gabriel but I kept three of his pokemon, he abandoned them.”

“I see, if you defeat me you’ll have to be careful against the next Elite, I suggest not using any of Gabriel’s pokemon against him. And if you don’t mind on our last two battles I would prefer to see how you raised your own pokemon.” suggested Wally.

The girl obeyed the request, mostly because she had no reason to use Helios anyways. On the next match she used Haru against Wally’s Flygon, she wasn’t willing to take a risk of losing in the first room, so she showed some of her best moves. The battle was hard, but Haru used bite on his opponent’s neck making unable to fight back, which made him win the match.

On the final battle Wally used his starter pokemon the Gardevoir, so Vanessa decided to do the same using Spike. Unlike the first matches this one lasted longer than all of them together, both pokemon were equally matched and so were the trainers, but the advantage of Dark Types being immune to Psychic attacks was what decided the winner, because no matter how much the Gardevoir tried, Spike’s attacks would always cause much more damage.

“I see, losing six matches in a row…live on national television, I guess becoming an Elite made me soft, I still have a lot to learn.” said Wally pouting.

“Sorry about that, but I did learn a lot from you, you used strategies I never even imagined before.” answered the girl.

“Oh there’s no need to patronize me, Paul warned me that I should always train harder but did I listen? Ah well, here’s your prize, this is a rare green Emerald from the Cave of Origin, it represents your victory against me the Hoenn Elite Champion and your superb Strategy skills.” finished Wally handing over the small object.

“It’s beautiful…Tracey wasn’t kidding when he said you guys were handing over priceless prizes.” gazed Vi at the little squared emerald.

“Here keep this case to place all four gems, congratulations on your first victory.” said Brock delivering a fancy black velvet box with a golden symbol of the league on top.

“Cool…can you help me heal my pokemon? I think Luna got a little damaged.”

“Of course I will, what about you Wally?”

“I think I’m gonna go stuff my face in the restaurant and then I’ll begin a new training, next year I can’t repeat this misery. But here, use my remaining potions on her, she’ll need them for the next match. Good luck Vanessa.” said the Elite walking away.

“Hey Brock, can you tell me why Wally told me not to use Gabriel’s pokemon on the next match?”

“Humm forget about that, you’ll probably need all your pokemon to defeat him, but watch out.”

“Yeah I’ve heard a million warnings about him by now, I’m actually curious to see how much of a jerk he is.”

“Good, cause you’ll meet him right away, you pokemon are back to normal already.”

“That was quick…”

“All my life I’ve worked for the knowledge of Nurses Joy.”

“You must really love medicine.”

“Right…medicine…”

“Well I guess it’s time for the second round…Let’s do it guys, come back into your pokeballs.” ordered Vi before beginning to walk towards the next room.

~*~*~*~*~*

As they walked across the second corridor Vi began to notice from afar that the second room was very different from the first one, and she was right, while the first was incredibly beautiful the second one was in a horrible condition. The walls and floor were mostly destroyed with nasty cracks and cuts, even the ceiling seemed to be about to collapse, but asides from that it showed signs that it was once an appealing place with Greek columns and green vines around the arena. However, those were pretty much turned into dust by now.

“So you’re the last one today? You look weak, this shouldn’t last much.” said the dark figure sitting with his legs crossed on a broken ivory throne.

“I see…you’re a jerk alright.” she answered.

“Vi this is Paul, he became a Sinnoh Champion by the age of 12, after that he conquered all the other three leagues plus lots of other competitions. Right now he’s here in the league representing Sinnoh, good luck, I’ll be over there making sure everything goes smoothly.” announced Brock.

Paul had changed much since his young age, not only was he now much taller but he was also much stronger. With army green pants, a black top and a very long haircut grabbed behind his back he maintained his usual cold appearance. The biggest change was the large number of scars through his body and face.

“Hey I’ve seen you before too, didn’t you climb all the way to the top of Mount Coronet alone without anything but your clothes? You were all over the news a few years ago.” she remembered.

“Yes that was me, but show some respect when addressing people who are above you, otherwise I’ll need to teach you some manners, Ursaring attack.” he complained unleashing a large Ursaring that immediately obeyed the orders, running towards the defenseless girl.

“What?? SPIKE COME OUT CONFUSE RAY NOW!”

“That was a quick reaction…most people had to sacrifice their first pokemon to save their asses, I’m impressed you even managed to confuse that worthless turd.”

“Why did you just call that to your own pokemon?” asked Vi noticing the huge amount of old wounds in the Ursaring’s body.

“I told you to watch your mouth, Ursaring RAGE!”

However, the confused Ursaring began only hitting himself, harder and harder, so Vi ordered Spike to use Hypnosis and Dream Eater to take the poor pokemon out of his misery.

It was a direct hit but apparently it wasn’t enough, and so she was terrified to see the Ursaring coming back to his feet almost unconscious.

“How can he still stand after that?”

“That’s because he knows what I’ll do to him if he loses without even laying a scratch on that poor excuse of a pokemon will be far worst than just trying to keep fighting.” answered Paul lighting up a cigarette.

“I won’t fight that poor thing!” Vi complained.

“She’s right Paul, according to the computer your pokemon’s HP is down to nothing, he shouldn’t even be fighting after the injury he got from the previous battles. Give him to me right away.” added Brock.

“Fine, whatever, his proven to be nothing but a piece of shit already anyways, I don’t even know why I kept him for so long. Go Honchkrow you better do better than that.”

As soon as the large bird was unleashed he attacked the Mightyena without mercy using a Brave Bird strike, it would have been a direct hit if Spike hadn’t been able to dodge in time.

“You missed, how pittyfull.”

“Spike use Shadow Ball!” she commanded.

However, the Honchkrow used Protect to avoid the attack and quickly retaliated by trying to strike the opponent with Frustration.

“Your doggie looks frail but he his fast I’ll give you that.” said the Elite after seeing Spike dodge the attack again.

“How come you didn’t command anything to your pokemon? He had to act all on his own. Plus that was the strongest Frustation attack I ever saw, it even broke the floor, but for some reason that doesn’t really surprise me…”

“I’m a trainer not a babysitter, I train my pokemon for battle, if they can’t do anything without my help than they’re worthless. Honchkrow try to attack his legs that’s the only way you’ll stop that son of a bitch.” answered Paul.

“You have issues don’t you? Spike if they want violence let’s give them that, use Quick Attack!”

Paul lifted an eyebrow after hearing the attack, he felt like laughing since all the pokemon was doing was running endlessly across the arena, after all, he was a land pokemon trying to hit a bird with a face to face attack. How ridiculous.

“Good now jump with one of those columns and use Giga Impact!”

“WHAT??” said the Elite out loud after seeing his Honchkrow being tossed against a wall violently.

“If you add speed to a pokemon they can jump high enough to hit Flying Types, isn’t that fun?” joked Vi blinking.

“I guess I underestimated you…that wont happen again, come back you piece of crap, go Drapion, tear them apart.”

“Spike return now, go Helios.” decided the girl, tossing a new pokemon into the arena, but as the Arcanine was still putting his feet on the ground he got struck face on with a Cross Poison strike.

“Oh come on that can’t possibly be legal! Helios Fire Blast!” she ordered tossing the Drapion away with the flames.

“Actually according to rules as long a pokemon steps into the arena the battle begins…sorry.” answered Brock.

“Life won’t always wait for you to make a move comfortably, get used to be prepared for anything, not all opponents play fair.” said the Elite after blowing out a large among of smoke from his lips.

“Fine, if that’s what you want, Helios Earth Power!” instructed the trainer causing the ground to shake and burst below the Drapion’s feet, but for her surprise the opponent jumped into the air and grabbed a vine coming from the ceiling.

“I figured those would be just for decoration…” she mumbled, “…Helios Fire Blast!”

“You missed…pathetic.” complained Paul noticing the fire strike hitting only the ceiling.

“I wasn’t aiming for you pokemon…” she answered while the vines in the ceiling turned into flames, “…now use Earthquake to make him fall!”

“Impressive…” mumbled Paul.

“Earth Power again! NOW!” she shouted hoping to hit the pokemon while he was still collapsing into the floor, after that it didn’t take long for the Elite’s pokemon to faint.

“…I wasn’t expecting this from a twerp like you I have to admit that, but this isn’t the first time I’ve been defeated by an Arcanine that can use Earth Power and Earthquake…you wouldn’t happen to know Gabriel now would you?” he asked throwing away the cigarette, all of the sudden he appeared to stop being bored.

“Shit Wally warned me about this, but it’s better not to lie…” she thought, “Gabriel abandoned his pokemon before dying and I kept three of them, but I trained them by myself so I don’t know why you’re all making such a fuss about it.”

“I see…how about a trade then, I’ll give you 1.000.000 coins for his champion pokemon.”

“WHAT?? There’s no way I’d ever give Helios to a creep like you!”

“Helios? Why would I want that turd, I’m talking about his Skarmory.”

“…I don’t have that one, I only found his Arcanine, Ninetails and Absol.”

“Pff you got the shittiest ones…figures. No wonder he threw them away they lost pretty much all battles during the league.”

“Well one of them just kicked your ass…”

“…”

“I’m beginning to like you kid, so now it’s time to make you the deal…” he said putting both his hands in the pockets and taking something out, “In my left hand I have a rare Diamond from the mines of Eterna City, if you want to I’ll give it to you right away and you can move on to the next room, it will represent that I acknowledged your Strength.”

“So this is why they only fought three pokemon and won…” Vi realized.

“But on my right hand I have one of the rarest gems in the world, it’s a Black Diamond from a hidden cave in the top of Mount Coronet, I discovered this on the same journey you mentioned before. If you want the second one you gotta defeat my remaining three pokemon and if you agree to do this there’s no turning back, if you lose it’s game over. But if you win this gem will prove that you truly defeated me in battle. It’s your choice.” he finished.

“It seems Tiphanie, Jack and Sam took the normal Diamond and went ahead, but Darian and Alex both fought for the black one and won…if I don’t try I’ll always wonder “what if” but if I fight and lose my chance to become a champion ends now…but then again, if I am to become a champion than I should kick this guys ass…”

“So?” Paul asked.

“I’ll keep on fighting.”

“Good, so let’s make this interesting, GARCHOMP COME OUT!” he shouted with a psychotic smile on his face.

In a matter of second Helios was knocked out with a Giga Impact, making Vi stand shocked looking at the opponent.

“After my most painful defeat against Champion Cynthia I just had to get one of this, be prepared to suffer the same humiliation I did.”

“Damn it I hate dragons, go Luna use Blizzard!”

The attack turned the room into a hurricane of ice, but when it stopped the Garchomp remained unharmed.

“What? Ice Beam NOW!” she shouted, but once again, the attack did nothing, being easily deflected with one of the opponent’s wings.

“Did you seriously believe I would let one of my pokemon have such a weakness? I made him train for years in the iciest mountains until he learned to withstand cold, you’ll need to do better than that. Garchomp destroy her.” Paul explained, before watching his pokemon slice the blind Absol with a Dragon Claw.

“How dare you! Come back Luna, go Aster! Destiny Bond!”

“I hate that move…” mumbled Paul.

“Now if you try to take down my pokemon yours will to.”

“Endure and strike!” he commanded, making his pokemon defeat the opponent with a Giga Impact but receiving enough damage to remain with only one Health Point left.

“Damn it, Spike finish him off!” she quickly ordered, taking down the Garchomp.

“So you managed to defeat one pokemon sacrificing three of yours, let’s see if you’ll have enough for the last two. Go Torterra!”

“Spike use Hypnosis and Dream Eater!” she shouted making her pokemon attack before the Torterra could do anything.

“So you enjoy draining Health Points…Torterra wake up and use Giga Drain!” commanded Paul, defeating the tired Mightyena.

“This must be your best pokemon…I’m not gonna take the risk of waiting to see what else it can do, Haru go and use Blast Burn!”

Flames flew across the entire room, causing a huge increase in the temperature, but before the effect wore off giant flaming vines appeared and damaged the Houndoom.

“What? A Grass Type shouldn’t even be able to breath with this, let alone attack.”

“Blast Burn huh? Than taste my Torterra’s Frenzy Plant, fire may hurt him, but he’s used to pain.”

“This is insane, Haru use Overheat!”

The mighty Houndoom obeyed throwing a massive amount of fire against the vines and the opponent making him immediately burst with flames, so it wasn’t long before the fire alarm began to make the ceiling sprinkle water all over the arena.

“Impressive, normal fire attacks would never take out my Torterra, besides Blast Burn and Overheat are both attacks that weaken the pokemon, how did you manage to fix that?” asked Paul, apparently he was actually curious.

“Flash Fire, that’s my Houndoom’s ability, by turning the room into hell he absorbed the fire and powered up for the next strike.”

“You’re not so worthless after all, but without that ace card I doubt you’ll beat my final pokemon, come out Electivire.”

The battle was intense, severe enough to make part of the ceiling collapse. Both pokemon were using full frontal attacks since Haru refused to listen to his masters strategies, he considered those to be for cowards. The Electivire was badly burned, and Haru was almost paralyzed, but even with that the battle lasted until Paul ordered a final Thunder attack that the Houndoom could not avoid because of his condition.

However, Haru seemed to be trying to get back on his feet even after having his Health Points completely destroyed. But no matter how much Vi tried to scream for him to come back into the pokeball and Brock complained saying that the battle was over, Paul commanded a Zap Cannon to finish the job.

Vi launched herself into the middle of the arena, willing to take the hit for her pokemon, but as she closed her eyes she heard only the sound of pain and lightning in front of her.

“…Toxicroak…?” the girl mumbled surprised, as she noticed the poor pokemon had been hit by the Zap Cannon to protect her.

“PAUL AFTER THE REFEREE SAYS IT’S OVER IT MEAN IT’S OVER!! YOU’RE DISQUALIFIED FOR BREAKING THE RULES!” shouted Brock obviously angry.

“Oh please, it’s not like that would have killed him. Whatever, here take this and move on, I’m out of here.” complained Paul lighting up a new cigarette and tossing the triangular Black Diamond into the floor.

Vi grabbed the paralyzed Toxicroak in her arms and watched Paul walk away, she couldn’t understand why would anyone be like that.

“Your Houndoom will be fine, he’s just exhausted, let me see my pokemon…” said Brock.

“What’s his problem?” she asked.

“Paul is a complicated guy, he’s been through a lot in his life so he doesn’t really now what the words mercy or compassion mean.”

“No wonder there were deaths in the previous years, now I’m not surprised that he managed to kill some opponents.”

“Your wrong, Paul may be a jerk but he never took away a life *I think*, it was Gabriel that killed one of Paul’s pokemon.”

“WHAT?”

“Yes, Gabriel’s Skarmory killed Paul’s Weaville without mercy, after that he has never been the same and he keeps on trying to find that Skarmory.”

“So he wants revenge?”

“I don’t know, it looks more like he wants to keep the Skarmory for himself, all Elites have one specialization, Wally likes pokemon that have a deep connection with nature and Paul likes ruthless creatures.”

“He has issues alright.”

“Yes, but at least you won, I suggest taking a small break to rest before moving on, but don’t worry, the next guy is much nicer than Paul.”

~*~*~*~*~*~

After a while Vi finally moved on to the next room, again it was very different from the previous ones, the walls were rocky just like the inside of a cave, but on the right side there was magma flowing down, while there was icy water on the left. The different elements merged together below the transparent floor of the arena, where they disappeared probably into another underground cave . It was unbelievably beautiful, but so was the crystal statue of a Dragonair standing behind the Third Elite.

“Oh my God…you’re Professor Gary Oak! This is so cool I always wanted to meet you in person! I based most of my training on your discoveries!” cheered Vi almost like a school girl.

Gary had grown a lot, he was slightly bigger than Paul but less muscled. His hair style was pretty much the same but he had now a very small and groomed goatee on his chin. With a lab coat over what appeared to be some very expensive clothes he gave a very distinctive look of luxury, but unfortunately he now required the use of glasses.

“A fan huh? Welcome to your third challenge, but if you heard of my discoveries than what will happen next probably won’t be a surprise for you.” he said.

“This room is amazing…”

“Thank you, it represents the harmony among elements, which is what my battle style is based on. During our battle you’ll face all 17 Elemental Types and if you manage to prove your knowledge and conquer them all I’ll reward you with this gem...” he explained showing a small round blue crystal in his hand, “…this is a rare Crystal from the bottom of the waters inside the Dragon’s Den in Johto. I may be originally from Kanto but I spent most of my years in Johto doing research, so that’s the region I’ll be representing here today. Are you ready?”

“Can I just ask a question first?” she asked.

“Sure.”

“If this is Hoenn League how come you and the previous Elite represent other regions?”

“The Leagues and the Elites are separate things, most people think they are an extension of each other but that’s not completely correct. You’re already a top trainer in Hoenn since you gained first place in your division, but now your fighting for the Champion title, not the “Hoenn Champion” but the “Pokemon Champion” name. And if you manage to beat all Leagues and all Elites in each region, then you’ll receive the legendary name of “Pokemon Master”. But this doesn’t really answer your question now does it…basically the only requirement they ask nowadays to become an Elite is that you’ve conquered that League in previous years, so you don’t have to be necessarily born in that region.”

“…Seriously? But everybody says that were fighting for the “Hoenn Champion” title.” she wondered.

“That’s just a matter of speech, if you win here today and move to Kanto will you stop being a Champion? No.”

“ I see…”

“You have a curious mind, I like that, but we should begin the people at home are probably dying to see the battle.”

“Oh yeah…we’re being filmed…*thanks a lot* I had forgotten that already…”

“Hehe just ignore the cameras, go Dragonair! Show her the power of Thunder and Dragon into one!”

Suddenly an enormous and stunning Dragonair appeared in the arena inside an electric cloud, it was just like the one in the statue.

“Oh man…in all other battles he started with a weak pokemon but now he probably picked one of his best to see how I react….I better not take a chance, this dragon is huge…Go Spike!”

Spike began by using his usual moves, starting with Hypnosis followed by a Dream Eater and for Vi’s great surprise after the attack the Dragonair fell on the floor and melted into a pink jelly…it was a Ditto.

“…”

“…What? Why?!” she asked, unable to understand why he would do that.

“Oh man, stick a fancy statue and say some glamorous introduction words and all trainers fall like Psyducks.” joked Gary, Brock was laughing too.

“Ok so I fell for the trap, but what do you win with this? You just lost one of your six pokemon.”

“The way a trainer attacks an opponent that he believes to be very strong says a lot about his true battle style, for example, you are a very strategical girl, instead of just attacking or preparing a defense like most of the others you began by using Hypnosis, which means you only attack after you’re sure to have an upper hand. And you used moves that normally a Mightyena could not use, which tells me that I can expect all sorts of weird tricks coming from you.”

“Ok ok, but wouldn’t it be better to actually use a true Dragonair? No offence…”

“Oh trust me, if I used the real pokemon nobody would reach the final Elite, besides, you’ll have enough trouble with the remaining five…Go Magmortar!”

“A Magmortar?? Damn I never even saw one of those before, come back Spike, go Ciarán!”

“That’s an interesting Eevee…but not really a good choice for this match…Magmortar use Flamethrower.”

Ciarán didn’t dodge the attack, which surprised Gary, especially when he escaped from the flames as a Flareon.

“What?” the Elite wondered amazed.

“Again no offence but didn’t you watch the League? My Eevee can turn into any evolution I want.”

“Amazing, and no I didn’t saw it, it would be unfair for you guys if we knew all about you while you knew nothing about us. Magmortar Earthquake and Rock Tomb!”

The Earthquake made some rocks fall from the ceiling and those were tossed against the mutated Flareon, which unfortunately wasn’t able to escape all of them.

“My Magmortar unites Fire, Rock and Ground, I was hoping to see your Eevee turn into a Ground Type Eevee, but I guess all I did was throw a rock in his face…”

“Not funny…Ciarán jump into the water and use Rain Dance!”

Ciarán quickly morphed into a Vaporeon and created a rainfall in the arena, immediately disturbing the Magmortar that continued to throw rocks.

“Now it’s a Vaporeon…that’s an impressive way to use your surroundings, Magmortar Hyper Beam!”

The pokemon obeyed, but he found himself unable to target his opponent since Ciarán suddenly disappeared inside the small pond on the left side of the arena. While Magmortar recharged Vanessa ordered a Whirpool, so all the water that had fallen on the arena was now being used as a water tornado that dragged the opponent inside, causing his defeat.

“I never saw a pokemon like that before and your battle strategies are indeed creative, but let’s see how you handle the next one, Magmortar return, Scizor go.”

“A Scizor huh? Ciarán come back, Helios it’s your turn.”

“I hope you don’t believe that Fire alone will defeat my pokemon, watch closely the synergy of Bug, Steel and Flying…Scizor attack!”

Suddenly both Vi and Helios became unable to see the Scizor hearing only a horrible sound, a few seconds later the Arcanine was violently tossed inside the water pond fainted.

“…”

“What just happened? Helios return.”

“You didn’t saw it? That was Bounce mixed with Metal Sound and X-Scissor.”

“…That’s a great combination, no wonder it defeated Helios…but it won’t happen again, Luna find him.”

“Won’t happen again huh? Let’s see about that.”

The Scizor repeated the same strategy, but when he was forming his X-Scissor attack Luna bit his arm tossing him towards the pool of lava. Gary had no choice but to call him back before he fell into it.

“I can see that she’s blind, but the Metal Sound should have avoided the possibility of hearing his position…” he said wondering.

“She fells temperature, that’s how she sees.”

“Another impressive pokemon, but I think I’ve seen one like that before…”

“Gabriel! I know! Let’s just move on!”

“Well ok then…Abomasnow replace Scizor using Haze.”

“Haze…with this cold air Luna can’t possibly find an Ice Pokemon…that was a good call, but I wasn’t thinking about using her anyways, Haru Blast Burn!”

The Blast Burn did damage a little the Abomasnow and destroyed the Haze cloud, but it turned it into water, wetting the floor and making a very uncomfortable arena for Haru.

“Bad move…Abomasnow use Grasswhistle, Toxic and Ice Shard.”

Falling asleep Haru was unable to escape any of the attacks, becoming poisoned and frozen into the floor because of the water around him.

“Oh fuck…” said Vi worried.

“Abomasnow finish him with Sheer Cold.”

Sheer Cold is one of scariest attacks there is, the foe is attacked with an absolute-zero cold, fainting instantly if the hit is successful. However, both trainers were amazed to see Haru standing up among the cold throwing an unbelievable Overheat towards the Abomasnow. By the end both pokemon collapsed into the floor immobilized.

“That Houndoom has a true will of fire, I’ve never seen any pokemon resist this combination, let alone defeat the opponent during it.” mentioned Gary astonished.

“This guy just keeps on amazing me…return Haru you deserve a good long rest.”

“Only two to go, but I must warn you, the next guy was my starter pokemon, it won’t be easy, go Blastoise!”

“No wonder Jack lost against him, I’m exhausted already…Ciarán go back into the arena.”

“That cute little guy again…you better have a plan…Blastoise Rapid Spin and Rock Smash!”

Ciarán was shocked to see such a massive opponent move so quickly, but was able to escape the impact right before being hit, running towards the water.

“Did you seriously think I’d use Water attacks?, I don’t feel like allowing him to evolve, use Body Slam before he hits the water!”

The Blastoise jumped into the air trying to squash the poor Eevee, but after hearing his master’s commands Ciarán used Quick Attack to turn back and escape, making the opponent fall into the pond.

“He fell for it…” Vi said grinning, “Ciáran CATCH!” shouted the girl throwing a large yellow stone to the pokemon.

In a matter of seconds Ciarán transformed into a Jolteon and was happy to obey the orders of attacking with a Thunder Wave paralyzing the opponent inside the water. After that it was a matter of time for the Blastoise to faint after a series of highly damaging electric attacks.

“A Thunder Stone huh…I should have seen that coming…”

“I’m your fan remember, of course I know that you started with a Squirtle, I’ve been planning on how to defeat a Blastoise since the beginning of the match.”

“…”

“Not bad kid, I honestly hope you pass to the next room, but first you must defeat my Umbreon.” said Gary unleashing the pokemon, “you’re not the only one with powerful Eevees.”

“Ciarán do you wanna fight or return?”

“I’ll fight, I never battled against one of my kind before.”
he answered with telepathy.

“Use Volt Tackle now!”

“Umbreon use Trick Room.” said Gary calmly, after that the arena suddenly turned into a weird bizarre universe, causing Ciarán to miss and get confused.

“Trick Room…that’s a Psychic move, I did think it was weird that you were only using original moves on your pokemon, I guess you left the result of your research for the end.” noticed Vi.

“Exactly, the ability to teach any move to a pokemon, not matter what type it is. It still has a lot of limitations, but it’s a great advance in science. Umbreon use Mean Look, now you’ll have to fight until the end.”

“Ciarán use Shock Wave maybe it’ll hit him.”

“That won’t work, my Umbreon will protect himself from any obvious attacks. So now let’s do some experiments, use Dark Pulse!”

Still caught in the Trick Room Ciarán was unable to escape and the damage caused made him return to his original state.

“He didn’t evolve into an Umbreon with a Dark strike…interesting, so it works only with stone related evolutions…”

“I could’ve told you that…Ciarán try to free yourself from that…otherwise we’re doomed…”

“I’m sorry master I don’t know what to do…in this state my psychic abilities are away inferior in comparison to the opponent…”

“There’s no way you can escape, sorry, nobody ever did. Let’s finish this use PsyBeam and Shadow Ball.”

The PsyBeam involved the Shadow Ball creating a massive new attack, Ciarán tried to run, but the opponent seemed to be able to mentally control the attack, it was a matter of time before he got hit. The strike was tremendous and Ciarán cried in pain for the first time.

“CIARÁN!” shouted Vi worried.

“What? This attack isn’t suppose to cause so much pain…” wondered Gary.

However, a bright light began to glow on his body, causing his cries to increase. Meanwhile, the Trick Room wore off, revealing the poor pokemon slowly mutating into something strange.

“WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM??”

“I don’t think I’m the one causing this…it seems he’s evolving…” answered the Elite.

“What??” Vi couldn’t stand hearing the pain in his voice so she ran towards the pokemon holding him in her arms, but by the time the light disappeared she noticed what she was holding was a completely new pokemon.

His body was now what could be considerate the perfect union between an Umbreon and an Espeon. He remained with his silver fur, but it was now much darker, the greens eyes on the other hand were exactly the same as before. The biggest differences were the awkward golden rings flying around his paws and tails, plus the forehead that had the same gem as an Espeon but with a golden symbol around it like an Umbreon.

“Ciarán…is that you?” she asked softly.

However the pokemon ignored the question, lifting himself in the air and creating the same attack that hit him, but much bigger and with the shape of what appeared to be a dragon. The opponent after seeing such attack ran into his masters arms in fear.

“It’s ok, the battle is over, I admit my defeat you can drop the attack!” announced Gary.

After that Ciarán lost control of himself and the attack dissolved into the air, the pokemon collapsed into the floor asleep, he was utterly exhausted.

“Let me take a look at him, not that I’ve ever seen this species before…but I’ll give my best.” said Brock approaching Vi.

“Are you alright? You look pale.” asked Gary landing her a hand.

“I’m fine…I was just scared…How did this happen?”

“You make it sound as if it was something bad, I don’t think it was just my attack that forced him to evolve, Eevees only evolve into Umbreons or Espeons if they love their masters, he felt hopeless, so I bet he evolved so that he could fight for you. But the mix of Ghost and Psychic probably did influence what he evolved into. Day and Night all into one.”

“You said that the battle was over…but I haven’t defeated your Scizor or your Umbreon…” she said trying to change the conversation, since she was still feeling guilty.

“Don’t worry about that, it’s an honor to give you this gem, this was a once in a lifetime battle, you deserve the victory.” Gary reassured, handing over the prize.

“Thanks…but what will I do now…I’ll probably have to fight with only 5 pokemon.”

“Stay here for as long as you like, I’ll go to the next room and explain what happened he won’t mind waiting, meanwhile train with Ciarán, you don’t wanna go into the final battle without knowing his new powers.”

“…Thank you…”

“That’s ok, but answer me one question, what will you do after this league?”

“Huh, what? I guess I’ll go to Sinnoh either I win or lose, the last two pokemon on my list are both there.”

“I see. Well stay here with Brock, I’m gonna go speak with the Last Elite. Good luck Vanessa, he may be an idiot, but he is a Pokemon Master.” said Gary before walking away.

“A WHAT? You gotta be kidding…”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Welcome! Prepare yourself for your final battle! My name is Ash Ketchum and…”

“It’s me you moron.” complained the Third Elite.

“Oh Gary…did you defeat the girl?”

“No. She’ll be here, I came to warn you that it may take a while, one of her pokemon evolved into a species never seen before, I advised her to train a little with him before coming here.”

“A what?? NOW I really wanna battle her!”

“She’ll give you a lot of trouble, but don’t go easy on her.”

“Your smiling…that’s rare nowadays, did you enjoy the last battle?”

“I guess I found someone really interesting, but…”

“But…”

“We need to make sure she’s not part of Team Rocket, an Eevee that can evolve into anything…that was one of their first experiments. You have more experience with them than me, please examine her carefully.”

“Sure…leave it to us.”

“Pika!”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“You’re pokemon are all back to perfect health!” announced Brock.

“Thank you so much, you’re healing skills are amazing!”

“Don’t make me blush…”

“Hey Ciarán you sure you’re ready to fight?”

“I’ve never been so ready…this new body is amazing…”

“I guess we’ve trained enough…I don’t wanna make the last Elite mad. Come on let’s go everybody, this is our final chance, it’s all or nothing!”

The girl made her pokemon return into their respective pokeballs and began to walk towards the fourth and final room. Unlike all others it was very simple, but it was much larger and with a very high ceiling. The walls were metallic but among them passed blue stream of light that made the design very appealing.

On a comfortable black leather recliner laid a young man, his appearance still didn't show that he was actually close to his thirties. He was sleeping soundly with a cap over his face, but beneath it Vi could see a somewhat long raven hair grabbed in a pony tail. He was wearing jeans and a black t-shirt with a white jacket, but above his belly was a yellow ball of fur.

“Humm… *cof cof*” she said trying to wake him up.

“That won’t work…HEY ASH DINNER TIME!!” shouted Brock joking.

“Hum what? Where?” he said waking up.

“Shame on you, you do realize this is being broadcast worldwide…”

“Shame on me? Shame on you Brock! Now you made me hungry…You must be Vanessa, sorry about that… Welcome! Prepare yourself for your final battle! My name is Ash Ketchum and I’ll be your last opponent…and this cute little guy here is Pikachu, say hello buddy.”

“Pikachu!” cheered the yellow fur ball.

“Dude you really need to get a better introduction…” complained the referee.

“Shut it and go to your computer. Now my dear, I’m here to represent Kanto, but since I’ve travelled through all regions I decided that as an Elite I would specialize myself in Starter pokemon, just like Gary used Elements, Wally used Nature Lovers and Paul used…Jerks.

If you manage to defeat me not only you’ll automatically win the title of Champion, but I’ll also give you this.” he explained, taking out of his jacket a red gem shaped like a four point star, “The Stardust of Moltres…this is probably the rarest gem in the world, they are formed inside Mt.Ember in the Sevii Islands of Kanto, but only during the presence of the legendary pokemon.”

“It’s gorgeous…” she said amazed.

“Yes but before we begin I would like to ask you some questions. First what is your goal in life, second what is your favorite food and third how many of your pokemon do you think will be standing by the end of our battle?”

“Hum…becoming a master with canine and feline pokemon, seafood and 1 or 2….?”

“Very well, then let’s get this party started, go Meganium!”

“Go Helios!”

The battle began by a cloud of spores flying in the air, paralyzing Helios and making him take several hits in a row. The Arcanine managed to strike the female with a Fire Blast but that was all he did before being defeated by an Energy Ball.

Vi had to use Aster to finish the match with his Scared Fire, but the Ninetails was also paralyzed by the spores and the battle lasted longer than expected since the Meganium refused to stay down.

For the second battle Ash sent an Infernape, Vanessa kept Aster trying to use Shadow Balls and Dark Pulses, but all was useless against the opponent’s agility, losing against a Close Combat strike. The Destiny Bond that was cast didn’t take effect maybe because of the paralyzes.

Vi had no choice but to use Ciarán revealing her best ace card…he could now transform into any variation anytime without the need of contact with the element, and even when back at his normal state he was a Dark/Psychic pokemon.

After transforming into a Vaporeon he attacked with a series of powerful Water moves, but just like the Meganium, the Infernape wouldn’t lose, as if their bonds with their master were so strong that they refused to give up, even under pain.

To take down the opponent Ciarán changed into a Jolteon using the water from his previous attacks to increase the electric damage, but even with that it took one Thunder and two Thunderbolts to defeat him.

A Feraligator was sent into battle after that, so Vi kept Ciarán in his Jolteon state, but that was a bad choice since now Ash knew what to expect from him, a few seconds later Ciarán tasted his first defeat in his evolved form between the Feraligator’s teeth.

Luna came to replace him, using her Ice moves to freeze her opponent, but with the adversary’s immense strength it didn’t seem to be enough. Only after a huge battle the Absol was able to finally break throw his defenses with a final Blizzard, but the exhaustion was too much for her, making her faint while the Feraligator still stood wounded.

Haru finished the job with a Take Down while Vi used Revives on Ciarán and Helios. A Sceptile was the fourth pokemon, his speed and stamina were unbelievable, making the type advantage practically useless. The Houndoom took lots of strikes, but with a stubborn mind he waited for a moment to attack, taking down the adversary with two merciless Fire Blasts in a row.

Afterwards the fifth battle began, an ancient and powerful Charizard appeared in front of them, Haru had finally found a worthy rival and they battled for almost an hour gaining lots of serious injuries due to brutal attacks, but none of them would break down, it was as if their lives depended on that battle.

In the end they both fainted simultaneously after the Charizard tried to make an unsuccessful Seismic Toss where they both fell into the ground.

Only the cute Pikachu was left, Vi’s blood was starting to pump harder and harder, but it almost froze in her veins when Helios was defeated with only one Volt Tackle. Ciarán was next, doing some damage with a Shadow Ball, but a Thunder was enough to paralyze him leaving him helpless towards the opponent.

Spike was Vi’s last hope and the Pikachu seemed to be getting tired, she used Hypnosis to make him fall asleep and commanded a Crunch strike, but while he was among the Mightyenas teeth the Pikachu woke with the pain and shoot a ragious electrical Discharge that spread throw the entire room, electrifying not only the opponent but also everyone present.

“…”

After regaining her senses Vi realized that Spike was down…and Pikachu still stood healthy on his tiny feet.

“…”

“No…”
