  • Speeding over a hill in his Jeep, Professor Oak took a second to turn to his guest. “Which way did she go?”

Aria, eyes closed, took a second before answering. “I’m still new to the whole ESP thing, but I believe she went into the forest. If only we didn’t have that distraction, we could have caught up.”

“So, into the forest?” He asked as he returned to the road. “We’ll have to travel by foot when we get there.”

“That’s what I was expecting… But I think I have enough strength to get some night vision.”

“By the way, about the interview.”

“I know about Team Aero.” She crossed.

    “What?”

“I know all about it. My visiting Rayquaza, the fight Winny and I had in Lilycove, me working with Giovanni, everything.”

“How long have you known that?”

“Well, I eaves dropped after the contest to capture me, that’s when I first heard about my involvement. Since then, I’ve been picking up loose data from Winona’s thoughts. I love the girl, but she worries a lot.”

The researcher clapped a hand to his nose. “Sorry, old man reflex.”

“Well, I’ll give you that one.” She laughed. “I was a guy for fourteen years. I don’t blame you for getting excited.”

With a sudden stop, the professor turned to her again. “This is where we get off.”

“By the way, did you learn to drive by watching the ‘Dukes of Hazard’?”

“That’s a good question…” The elder smirked, “But do we have the time to ask this?”

    “Shit.”

Winona stopped to catch her breath. In her rush, she had forgotten what she was running from. She felt panicked, and the blood rushing through her head ran all ideas that filled them from before. Winded from the run, she fell at a small shrine. Panting, she started to collect herself. “What… was I… doing?” Her eyes trailed up the post to the small house. “Whatever god is listening… Help me…” Sitting in the closing darkness, she started to laugh to herself. “Like that will ever happen.”

A small green creature laughed as it appeared from the shrine.

    “Well… There’s this girl…” She blushed.

    “Yes.”

    “What?”

Without a chance for protest, the girl was dragged into a rift in time and space.

Aria was using a flash of insight, scanning the area for disturbances that would be caused by there being additional beings in the environment. That said, rifts in reality completely took her by surprise. With a likely location divined, she turned to the researcher. “Sorry, Professor. I have to run ahead a bit. I should be okay from here, if you don’t feel like running.”

“Just call me if something happens.”

Aria dashed as fast as she could to see the gap in time being shut closed. “Shit, I’m too late.” She hissed. “I have a sinking suspicion that she went through that, too.”

“That’s because she did.” The Aero admin stated as he appeared from behind a tree. “But she is safe, I am sure of it.”

“You have a hand in this.” Aria growled. “And what was with Lance calling you a dragon god?”

“The latter is for another day, but yes. I have a hand in the event- Celebi is a close friend of mine.”

“So uncle, what is it this time?”

“I sensed that you and Mistress Winona would come into trouble. Because of this, the two of us used time and space to separate you as we prepared a solution.”

    “So, what’s the lecture?”

“Do you remember when you first wanted to go with Winona?”

“Yeah, that was almost ten years now…”

“No, it wasn’t.” The admin barked. “It was longer than that. Your master has been sent back fifteen years ago to watch that meeting, we will be going there in spirit, as I do not have such power.” He produced a blanket and some large pillows. “It will be beneficial to go into a meditative state for this.” Without much to contest, Aria sat on a pillow and closed her eyes. “We will be visiting a warm summer day, I’m certain that you will remember what has passed when we are there.”

The forest faded as Aria found herself in her Mew form. “Okay, what are we doing now?”
The admin smiled kindly as he explained. “Since you are in a meditative state, we will be using your actual form.”

Walls appeared around them as three figures appeared. “Wait…” Aria gasped. “That’s Gramps, my father, and you!”

“Don’t worry…” The admin turned. “We will not be noticed. Just watch.”

“I can’t believe that you would even say that!” Aria’s father, a pilot still in uniform, roared. “You have no right to select my daughter for this!”

“I do not make the rules, Mister Hasaki.” The Aero leader’s past self announced. “Azelf was the one who chose your daughter. All I am to do is watch over her as the envoy of the void to make sure she exists until the time is right.”

“I am not letting my daughter become a fucking Pokemon!” The pilot countered. “She needs to be here to make sure that the Hasaki Shipyard exists after I’m done!”

“Ace!” The doctor barked. “Stop thinking about that fucking shack. If this goes sour, we’ll have another cataclysm. After three years, we’re still rebuilding. We almost lost the entire city of Mahogany, and you’re worried about not having an apprentice that shares your blood.”

“Sorry I’m late.” A man in all black covered in a trench coat waved as he walked in.

    “What did I miss?”

“That shipyard is my home!” He called. “I would rather die than give up my daughter for this.”

The man sighed. “You have a son as well.”

“That child destroys everything in sight, how can you expect him to amount to anything.”

“That would make you a failure as a father, Ace.” The man scoffed. “My Winona may be a little light-headed, but I know that with enough attention she can become a great trainer. If you show your son enough love, he could be anything.”

“Don’t you fucking waltz into my region and talk to me about love, Dragoon.” He spat, “You and your fucking cock fighting.”

“Pokemon battles are a time-honored tradition, Ace.” Dragoon crossed, “And maybe your children would be better off if they had Pokemon.”

“Listen, I’ve had enough of your fucking shit. If you think you can raise my children better than I can, then have at it!” With that, he stormed out of the building.

“What an annoying child.” The doctor sighed. “Gerald, what do you know about this?”

The dark trainer shook his head. “I foresee bad things happening if he continues his style of rearing children.” He stated. “A Mew needs to gain wisdom to be strong, and if she trains under him, she will gain his traits. As much as I have say over your family, this might be best for the world.”

“I knew you were going to say that.” Dragoon laughed. “So, who gets the kids if he doesn’t want them?”

“They’re at an important stage.” The doctor announced. “At this moment they need family contact, which I will provide. When they become older, I might need your help in raising them as trainers. I’d raise them in medical training, but I know those two would be happier with your lifestyle.” He glanced around. “Did you bring your daughter with you today?”

“She’s out playing with the girl of the hour.”

“We’ll leave them alone for a while.” Gerald announced. “I’m sure they’ll be fast friends.”

The Aero leader turned to the Mew. “This will end this scene. Anything seem familiar?”

“Of course.” Aria nodded, “My father died in an airship crash after that. My grandfather told me straight that he had passed away, and that I would be staying with him.”

“It’s good to know that your memory’s coming back. We have a few more things to watch before we’re done, though.”

In a field, Winona and Celebi watched in seclusion as two children were running in the grass. “So, why are we here?” She whispered.

    The Pokemon hushed,

“The rest?” She blinked as the Aero admin and his charge appeared next to them. “How?!”
Gerald clapped his hand over her mouth on instinct. “Keep quiet. We’re just going to watch for a little.”

The smaller purple-haired girl fell backwards into the grass to watch the clouds. “Hey, Aria, do you want to be when you grow up?”

The blue-haired girl let out a breath as her back hit the ground. “I dunno… Daddy wants me to be a pilot like him, but I hate heights.”

“You don’t like heights?” The other girl blinked, “How can’t you like heights? My Daddy lets me ride his Charizard everywhere!”

“I just don’t.” She shook, “There’s nothing I hate more than heights and flying.” The older Winona snickered at this. “What do you want to be when you grow up, Winny?”

“I wanna be a princess!” The younger Winona announced. “I always thought it was so cool in stories how the knight always comes in and saves the princess at the last minute!”

The mew stifled a few giggles as the wind trainer glanced at her. “Then I wanna be the knight!” The younger Aria called. “When you need me, I’ll come in and save you!”

    “You’d really do that?”

“And then after I save you, we can be married!”

The little girl’s face flushed, “What?!”

“Isn’t that what the knight and princess do so they can live happily ever after?”

    “But… That’s what a boy and a girl do…”

Aria smiled as the older form copied the younger. “That doesn’t matter. The knight marries the princess, that the rule.”

“You remember this?” The older Winona posed.

    {It just came back to me.} Aria voiced. {Like a funny dream.}

“Are you two girls enjoying youself?” Dragoon smiled as he walked up to the two children.

“Yep!” The two nodded as Winona continued. “We were just talking about what we wanted to be when we’re grownups.”

“So I heard…” He smiled before kneeling down to Aria. “You know, my name is the title for a band of dragon knights. So if we work together, you can be a great knight.”

The small child’s blue eyes shone brightly. “Really?”

“Sure, but not today. You grandfather’s bringing us out for ice cream.”

    The older Aria laughed darkly. {Gramps always took me out for ice cream when he had bad news. But he also rewarded me for good work with ice cream as well.}

“Speaking of which…” The Aero leader nodded, “I think we should go for some ice cream.”

    The fairy nodded,

    “That would be wonderful.”

In what was now the next day, Aria and Winona found themselves standing before the old ice cream parlor from their childhood. “I’ll get the ice cream.” Gerald announced. “What do you like?”

Aria glanced at her master. “Winny likes Wiki berry.”

The wind trainer smiled at her Pokemon. “And Aria likes Kelpsy. Because it matches her hair.”

The Aero leader smiled. “You two know each other better than you’d think…”

As the elder walked away, Winona gained the strength to speak. “Aria, about last night-”

“I know about me leading Team Aero.” She cut.

    “What?”

“I managed to scan everyone’s memories to recreate my memory from the past few months.”

    “How long have you known?”

“Since you traded for me with Cynthia, more or less.” The Mew answered. “I overheard your discussion with Sabrina, and that was what tipped me off.”

    “Why didn’t you say anything?”

“At first, I was unsure of things. I needed to collect more information before I said anything.” She explained, “But after that, I didn’t want to mention it. Most of the information I got was from reading your thoughts, and I liked how you’ve been treating me since I lost my memory much better.”

    “So you’re not angry?”

Aria cocked her head. “Angry?” She pondered. “I guess that you could say I was angry to start… But after thinking about it, this is better for both of us, isn’t it?”

    “Are you sure?”

“You were worried because if I remembered what happened in Lilycove, I’d hate you for acting like nothing happened, right?” The trainer turned her head as the Mew corrected so she could look into her eyes. “Winny. What we just saw was something that happened before I was attacked by that Raticate. Not even death will keep you from me.” She announced, “And I am the wisest Pokemon and you’re my trainer.”

The wind trainer broke down, sobbing into the shoulder of her familiar. “Aria…”

Aria held her closely and ran her fingers through her hair. “Winny, I’m going to be your knight. And then we can live happily ever after.”

“And to think…” She laughed, “You were so close to being my husband, too.”

The Mew’s eyes almost bulged out. “What?”

“Well, when we met again, you were a guy, weren’t you?” She pointed. “That way…”

Aria held up a finger to hush her. “Wait a moment.” She concentrated as her outfit flared out to a pair of cargo pants as a jacket vest grew from her shirt. Her features hardened slightly as she finally went into a male form. “So, about living happily ever after…”

    Winona’s eyes widened. “How?”

“Mew.” The transformed psychic laughed. “Anyways, I should be able to transform into myself after all of the emergency practice I’ve had.”

“Here’s your ice cream…” The Aero leader announced, handing over the combs. “Miss Winona… Master Ariaver… I’ll be taking my leave.”

Sitting with their treats, a strange look crossed her face. “Aria… When we return to Hoenn, could you do something for me?”

The Mew smiled without a care in the world. “Sure, anything you want.”
