“Chiba Terra, please pay attention!” yelled Makiko, looking at her from the front of the classroom. “This is the tenth time this morning that I had to yell at you to pay attention!”
“Sorry, miss Makiko,” spoke Terra. She tried to keep her eyes focused on the teacher but she just didn’t feel right. It was like something was not right with her. She felt like she was about to faint or be ill since ten that morning.
Ten minutes later, Terra knew she had no other choice as she needed to get out of the room before something happened so she asked the teacher for permission to go to the bathroom. The teacher gave her the hall pass to go to the bathroom. When Terra didn’t return within the normal time for someone to go to the bathroom, the teacher went to the bathroom to find her passed out on the floor of the bathroom.
Miss Makiko checked for breathing and a pulse, after finding them lifted her up and rushed her to the nurse’s office where Terra woke a few minutes later. The nurse didn’t like the color in Terra’s cheeks and asked her what she had for breakfast.
“I had miso shiru with rice. It is my normal breakfast meal,” said Terra, as she sat up only to feel lightheaded.
“I think you need to lie down again. I’ll be right back,” spoke the nurse, as she walked out of the room to the front office. “I need to look at the personal file of one Chiba Terra, please?”
The file didn’t tell her anything. She then realized that the young girl has the flu and should return home for a few days before coming back to school. The nurse walked back to her office and found that the young girl was sound asleep. ‘Maybe some sleep will get her strong enough to walk to Terra’s parents…I mean Terra’s brother’s car since he is her only living family member.’
About an hour later, Terra woke up and promptly threw up in the trash bucket. The nurse knew she had the flu and suggested to her that she should call her brother to come pick her up.
Terra dialed her brother’s cell phone and waited for an answer.
“Hi, this is Chiba Momaru, I’m not here at the moment but please leave a message and I’ll get back to you soon.”
Terra swore mentally as she hung up the phone and tried another number. This time the university that he goes to, but just like his cell phone he was not there. The secretary did tell her that he went home for lunch and had called stating that he was ill and would not be returning to school that day. Terra acted like he was coming to get her when she looked at the nurse.
“My brother will be here to pick me up, do you mind if I wait for him outside?” asked Terra.
“Sure, just sit down as soon as you get out to the gate. I don’t want you to pass out there,” said the nurse, looking at her.
“I will. Thanks,” Terra said, as she walked out of the building and not even stopping at the gate. She was going to walk all the way home. Terra did pause once at an arcade where she thought she felt someone she knew there but didn’t see anyone who was familiar to her so she continued on home.
Terra got out her key to the gate that guarded their apartment from uninvited visitors and strangers who wanted to solicit the occupants of the building into buying unwanted items. She opened the gate and closed it quickly behind her. Terra went to the elevator only to find that it was out of service for the day as the janitor was working on it. Ten flights of stairs she had to climb to get up to her brother and her’s apartment. She had wished that they lived on the first floor but she climbed the stairs.
‘Finally, our floor.’ thought Terra, as she pushed the sweat off her face. She walked towards her brother’s apartment and unlocked the door, entering the dark apartment.
Terra noticed as she went towards the kitchen that her brother’s cell phone was there and was vibrating with an incoming call. She looked at the caller ID and noticed that it was one of her brother’s friends calling him. She realized that he must had forgotten to take his cell phone with him that morning that’s why she didn’t get an answer from him. So she headed into the kitchen to get some more miso shiru warmed up before going to bed.
But then, she heard a noise coming from the bedroom. She knew her brother was not at home, as his car was not in the garage so she knew it had to be a burglar. Terra grabbed the pan and sneaked towards the bedroom expecting to see a rare daytime burglar instead found her older brother on top of a woman, beating her, calling her names and then, she saw him start to force himself on her. Terra grew angry at what her brother was doing to this woman. She lunged forward and struck her brother hard on the back of the head with the pan knocking him into the wall hard.
“Get out of here!” Terra yelled at the woman, who grabbed her torn shirt and fled from the room. Terra started to follow her when she was yanked back in shock and then she felt the strong pain in her stomach as her brother punched her there.
“You bitch! Now you shall pay for interrupting me!” screamed Mamoru, as he started to punch her violently.
“No! No!” Terra cried out, as she tried to block the punches but failed as he slammed her head into the wall. Terra knew the room was getting dark but she could see her brother pulling her undergarments down and then the sharp pain of his entrance into her, she passed out from the pain.

“Who could have done this to my sister? Attacking her like this?” asked a male voice.
“The apartment did look like she had walked in on a burglar, Mr. Chiba, and the burglar beat her up quite badly. You were lucky that she wasn't killed.” The detective said.
“That would not be good,” the male voice said.
Terra listened to the voices and knew who was there in the room with the detective - her brother and attacker Mamoru. She hoped that he would leave the room so she could speak with the detective without him hearing her tell him about who her attacker really was.
“Sis?” whispered Mamoru, turning towards the bed and going to his sister’s side. The detective came behind him and smiled as the young woman stared back at them. “Terra, this is detective Kanyono, he’s working on the case dealing with the burglar, who attacked you.”
“Hello Terra, can you tell me what happened?” asked detective Kanyono.
“I don’t…remember,” said Terra, looking at the detective.
The detective sighed, he knew this case may never be solved but thankfully the girl was not seriously injured beyond some bruises, couple of cracked ribs and some cuts on her lip. He removed a card from his pocket and handed it to her. “If you remember anything about your attacker, Miss Chiba, give me a call?”
“I will, detective,” Terra said, gently.
The detective walked out of the room as Mamoru watched him walk down the hallway before he walked back into the room and grabbed the card. He promptly ripped it up and threw it into the toilet and flushed it.
“You will remain silent about this or you’ll pay for it, bitch.” Mamoru whispered, as he glared at his sister. “That cop will pay as well if you tell him or anyone.”
Terra nodded her head, knowing what he could do to her or to anyone else if she told anyone about his battery of her.
Just then, the nurse came into the room stating that visiting hours were over and that she needs her sleep. Mamoru nodded and gently kissed her head as he walked out of the room. Terra climbed out of the bed and hobbled her way to the bathroom hoping that some of the card didn’t flush all the way down but it did. She walked to the door and peeked out. She hoped that the detective had left a card with one of the nurses. She went to the nurse’s desk and asked if the detective had left another card as her brother took the card home with him.
“He did, but it was taken by your brother,” the nurse said.
‘Damn him!’ Terra snapped mentally, as she turned back to her room and walked back into her room. She climbed into her bed again when she felt someone grab her hair and yanked her head back. “Mamoru,”
“I know what you did, bitch. Don’t do it again or that cop will pay for your arrogance with his life. Got it?” whispered Mamoru, as he punched her already cracked ribs again hard.
Terra couldn’t breathe as she knew he must have broken her ribs this time around. She nodded as he let go of her hair and allowed her to collapse onto the floor as she grabbed her ribs in pain. Terra’s hand searched out the nurse button to get the nurse in there immediately.
A few minutes later, the nurse came in and called for extra help as Terra was now flat on the floor unconscious. They took her to the x-ray where they found out that she now had two broken ribs instead of just two cracked ribs.
