Luna was just stretching out for an afternoon nap in the sunny spot on the carpet in the living room when she heard a loud clunk in Usagi’s bedroom. Glancing at the front door to confirm that it was locked along with the sliding glass door in the living room, Luna knew that the only other possible entry point for a burglar was the small window in the bedroom. Quietly, she stalked toward the door, not really thinking about what she was going to do when she got in there. She peeked around the doorframe and saw that the window was shut and locked up tight. The little cat walked into the room cautiously, confused about where the noise had come from. She was about to return to her sunny nap when she heard a scuffling inside the closet. Suddenly, the door flew open and someone tumbled out onto the floor, tangled in clothes and hangers, tripping over shoes and clutching something tightly in one hand. It took Luna a moment to recognize the disheveled figure.
“Ka-Kakyuu? What are you doing here, in Usagi’s closet?” The redhead stood and smoothed her dress and hair, looking a little embarrassed at her entrance.
“I’m so sorry for my sudden appearance Luna. The easier answer is that I was in Usagi’s closet because it seems that is where she put the incense burner that I left with her which I used as a portal to transport here.” She lifted the object in her hand, showing it to the charcoal cat. “As to why I’m here, that is a longer explanation, though, now that I think about it, you are probably the best ear to hear it.”
Luna carried shoes back in to the closet while Kakyuu replaced Usagi’s clothes on hangers and straightened up the mess that she’d created when bursting out of the closet. When they were finished, they went into the living room and settled onto the couch together. Kakyuu took a deep breath, considering how best to approach the topic, but knowing that she shouldn’t linger long else the two unaware Starlights discover her absence.
“Healer asked me to come and check on the scouts. She thought you might be under attack.” Luna was startled.
“No, no, we’re not under attack. Things have been peaceful since the defeat of Chaos. Why would she think that?”
“Well, thank goodness for that.” The redheaded woman smiled. “Healer was concerned because it seems that our Fighter has been getting the impression that someone on Earth is talking about her, saying her name to be more precise, and Healer thought it might be because the scouts were in trouble and needed her help.”
“No, they’re not in any trouble; well, not in any scout-related trouble, anyway.” Luna considered Kakyuu’s news. “I couldn’t say if anyone was talking about Sailor Star Fighter, but I can tell you that I know for a fact that the name Seiya has been used repeatedly.”
“Seiya?” It was Kakyuu’s turn to be surprised. “Why would they be talking about Seiya?” The little cat sighed, wondering how much of Usagi’s business she should tell the fiery princess.
“It’s rather an involved tale, but I’ll try to be concise. Several years ago, not too long after you returned to Kinmokusei, Mamoru Chiba, the guardian of the Earth, Usagi’s boyfriend and future husband and ruler of Crystal Tokyo died of a terrible illness. Since that time Usagi has been inconsolable, alive but not living. She wasn’t the same person. She lost her joy, her laughter, her hope: all the things that make her who she is. It was awful. We all did our best to comfort her, but nothing seemed to help much. Then, several weeks ago, Usagi got worse again. It seems she’d been having dreams of a mysterious man, and finally she’d discovered that it was Seiya and it made her feel extremely guilty to be dreaming about another man. Then, a few weeks later, she had a sort of epiphany, and she started to get better. She finally said goodbye to Mamoru. And now that she’s beginning to allow herself to heal, she’s started to allow herself to think and talk about Seiya.”
“Do you think she has feelings for him?” It was a little odd to think in terms of her Starlights’ male personas; she just didn’t see them that way since they never used them on Kinmokusei.
“Yes, I know she does. Though, it might be further heartbreak in store for her now that she’s allowed those thoughts in since he is so far away, and I think she feels it would be unfair to him to contact him now anyway if she could, since she chose Mamoru over him in the first place.”
“Well, since we are being honest, I must tell you that Fighter, Seiya, hasn’t been happy since she left Earth, and I know it is largely due to the fact that she, he has feelings for your princess as well. I shall have to think on this new information and decide a proper course of action.”
“But you won’t tell him what I told you: about Usagi’s dreams and feelings and so forth? I’d rather not get into trouble for telling you if possible.” The cat smiled nervously.
“Do not worry Luna. I will be very tactful. And perhaps it’s best if we kept my little visit from Sailor Moon as well, for now.” She scratched the cat behind her soft little ears. “Now, is there somewhere besides the closet that we can put this burner so if I come back I don’t nearly kill myself in the attempt.”
They finally decided on placing the incense burner outside on the little covered deck that adjoined the living room off to one side so that it was hidden from the view by the curtains. Kakyuu bid the feline goodbye and promised to send a letter through the burner before deciding anything if she could not come and talk to Luna herself.
Luna curled up again for her nap and smiled, trusting and hoping that whatever came of this unexpected visit would benefit the blonde who had lost so much so young.
