Chapter Two – The Call
I walked back towards the house Sakura and Tomoyo were at,
the question still in my head, what if I were following one when it was in fact
another needed me? This question sent shivers up my spine, why had I not asked
this question? Will I know when there is danger on ones destiny?
I walked through the walls and up the stairs, at the door I
hesitated, but taking a breath I am sure I no longer need I stepped through the
door, the room was dark, but I could still see, there was silence, I looked to
the bed, Sakura and Tomoyo slept, their cloths lay on the floor, Sakura was
curled up into Tomoyo’s arms, and for a first I smiled.
Three more months had past, with not much happening, I never
saw the man old man again but I knew he was still out there.
I watched Sakura and Tomoyo, I watched as their relationship
grew, as Sakura once again began to smile. I watched life change for her as she
past her exams and was now choosing her subjects for year twelve. I watched as
Tomoyo on the holidays, three day’s before the new year
proposed to Sakura. And Sakura accept with full joy.
I had no problems with destiny for them, they were fine, I visited my family I found I was able to transport myself
with the simple wish to be there. I watched as my oldest sister found love in
an Australian tourist, a man by the name of Shawn, he was beautiful to look at,
he had black hair that reached his shoulder, he str streaks of golden brown, his eyes were a deep brown, his body tanned as he was tall.
I was happy for my sister, and found that the man was
trustful and held love for my sister.
My powers had grown, I was able to sense other’s feelings and
thoughts, I knew when they were catching a cold or when they had hurt
themselves, I could sense when they lied, I was even learning to place thoughts
in others minds and have them act on it.
Sitting under a tree, just near Sakura and Tomoyo I smiled
as the girls talked about the wedding, Tomoyo’s ideas for the dresses, as
Sakura thought of flowers and decorations.
That’s when it came to me, it was sudden and strong, it was
an urge, an urge along with a name, Eriol, I must go
to Eriol. I didn’t understand it at first but I could not push it away, I must
go to him, something was not right and I must go there.
Standing I concentrated, Eriol, I must go to him. I felt my
body fading; I pictured the boy in my mind, the blue-black hair, the eyes
rimmed with wire framed glasses, his smile, my body faded.
And soon I felt himself travelling fast, wind everywhere,
whenever I did travel it was the only time I could feal the elements, the wind,
it was a beautiful feeling. But soon it stopped, I materialized. I was in a
room, I looked around, it was bright, curtains drawn
back as the evening sun’s orange glow pored in.
It was beautiful, the window was large and met the ground,
outside there was green trees and a large acre of land, trees covered most of
it and lush green grass the rest, there was a pool outside with balls and other
play things in it, floating around aimlessly, there were chairs to bake on,
there was a tire swing that hung from a large branch on an oak tree.
Turning around I scanned the room, it was also beautiful, a
bedroom, a large four posted bed was in the middle of the room, though it’s
head against a wall, a large cupboard opposite from it, a desk to its left, a
bedside table on the right, a large black sheep skin covered the ground in the
very centre of the room.
The blankets on the bed were un-made, one side thrown back,
the quilt was also black, a silver pattern at the bottom corner of it, it was a pattern of a spray, like a spray of paint had
splashed up the side, the four large pillows also holding this same spray.
The room was large the ground a deep blue carpeting, the
walls a deep red wood, the sent that this room held was arousing yet exotic,
there was the smell of incence mixed in with red ceder. It was the most
intoxicating relaxing smell I had ever smelt.
But my attention was drawn once again to the window as I
heard laughter and screams, I looked out and saw a girl running to the pool and
diving in, I recognised her immediately, it was Nakuru, her red hair was out,
she was laughing as she grabbed a hold of a floating shark, she climbed on top
of it, straddling it with her long legs.
I realised that I was not in England,
no there was too much space, the sky was a beautiful pinkish blue, I was in America,
Albany - Georgia to be exact. I watched as
Nakuru steadied herself on the shark, her hands gripping its handles, she wore
a pair of deep red bikinis, tie up’s at the neck and back, she was in full joy
as she balanced herself.
I noticed that to my right was a pair of glass doors that
opened up into a round small veranda, I was on the second floor of this grand
house, I walked through the doors and out onto the veranda, there was a chair
out here, and a small table that had a book resting on it, it was closed and
marked with a small thread plated, palm trees and a few smaller bushes were on
this veranda, flowers were blooming in orange, yellow and blue. I looked over
the edge.
I saw Nakuru wave to someone and soon saw a boy walk out and
over the grass towards her smiling, this shocked me, this boy was Eriol, the
same Eriol I had known when I was ten, but no, it can’t be, this boy was
hansom, beautiful.
His hair was long and straight with only small waves close
to the bottom, it reached his middle back, it was pulled back away from his
face by means of it being tucked behind his ears, his glasses he wore no more,
his fringe was longer and fell over his eyes, he was tall and held a little
more of a tan, but not much, he wore shorts, a long sleeve shirt that was
rolled up to his elbows, the shirt was white long and baggy almost hiding his
shorts but in the same way showing them.
I was enticed, this boy could not be Eriol, this boy was a
beauty on its own, he was like an angel yet mysteriously dark holding secrets,
he could captivate anyone to his blue stormy eyes, or draw you in with the soft
loving smile he offered Nakuru, no this could not be Eriol and yet I knew he
was.
I watched as he smiled to Nakuru and sat on one of the long
chairs, his feet resting on them, he wore no shoes, he seemed content as he
watched the girl play, he laughed joyfully when she suddenly fell from the
shark.
I could not believe what I saw, this was the same Eriol I
detested, the same Eriol I glared at. I jumped off from the veranda and landed
without sound on the ground, without pain as a mortal would if they jumped of
the veranda two stories up.
I walked over to him, towards the pool, as I expected they
did not notice me, I turned around and looked to the house I had just left, it
was large, old styled as it was made of oak wood, but modern with its large
floor meeting windows, all curtains drawn back to allow the last rays of sun to
fall in.
I turned back to the two mortal’s, Eriol and Nakuru who were
laughing, Nakuru splashed water over at Eriol’s direction for laughing at her
clumsy fall, but he only jumped off the seat avoiding most of the water and
only being hit by some small droplets.
I watched as Nakuru pleaded with him to get in the pool, he
only laughed and shook his head as he stood near the now wet seat, saying he knew
what she would do if he went into the pool.
“Eriol please, I promise I wont jump on you again” but he
only laughed and said no, that the water looked too cold.
I sat down, cross-legged on the edge of the diving board as
I watched them, why did I have the urge to come here, come all the way to America
to see Eriol? Was it what the man said? That I would ‘know’ when it was time? When someone’s destiny was in danger?
Eriol’s destiny? Was Eriol’s destiny in danger?
I watched them Eriol sat on the side of the pool allowing
his feet to hang into the crystal blue water, Nakuru was now floating on her
back, her arms outstretched as she hummed a musical tune.
Then everything seemed to happen so suddenly, Nakuru let out
a scream and vanished under the water, Eriol looked over panicked, he called to
her, but there was no response and Nakuru didn’t seem to swim back up, the
water in where she had been was violently moving, I watched as Eriol dived into
the water.
This is it? Is this what I am meant to help Eriol with? Is
this his threat of breaking destiny? I looked over the water, I was now
standing on the diving boards edge, the water was so violently thrashing that I
could not see through it.
I felt myself panic as Eriol didn’t resurface, I felt a pang
of pain in my left arm, I knew it was not me that was injured it was Eriol,
then I saw red, redness floated up, I panicked, he was not dead, that I could
tell, but I didn’t know what to do, how can I help?
That’s when I saw red hair, Nakuru, she re-emerged, she was
close to unconsciousness, coughing up water and straining to regain her breath,
Eriol emerged behind her he was holding her, keeping her above water, I saw his
white top was dyed/stained a reddish pink, a deeper red at his left upper arm,
he had been injured.
He was swimming Nakuru to the pools edge, but all of a
sudden he vanished, letting out a surprised yell before he went under, Nakuru
now fully awake was turning in the water screaming Eriol’s name, shnt unt under
looking for him but then re-emerged empty handed. She was in tears as she
searched, yelling for him, soon I saw Spinner fly out of the house.
I turned back to the water; I have to do something, but
what? Use my powers? But what could I do? I could sense his pain; he was running
out of air…his arm hurt…he was in fear and confusion.
But what could I do? I had to help, I knew I had to, it was
my job to keep him on destiny, I couldn’t fail this. I frantically thought,
finally I gave up and dove into the water, I didn’t feel its coldness nor did I
feel wet, I didn’t even make a splash when I entered. I looked around, I could
survive down here, I had no need for air, I knew this but still unconsciously I
was holding my breath out of habit.
I looked around, there was Eriol, he was tugging at his leg,
I saw chain around it, it was a chain that held him under.
I swam over to him, he did not notice me, I saw that the
chain was cuffed around his ankle, he was trying to pull his leg free with his
hands, his fingers slipping between it but it would not break, to be honest I
don’t think he saw the chain, he only felt it around his ankle.
How I know this I cant say, but to him his leg was invisibly
caught, and he could do nothing to free it, but I could see it.
I knew I had to do something, it was not his time to die,
but what had done this? I touched Eriol’s leg and I saw him stop, he was
looking confused, had he felt my touch? I don’t know, I examined the lock
around his ankle, I saw a small button like thing sticking out on one side, and
another button like thing at the other, I pressed these two in together, and to
my amazement it unlocked, his ankle was released.
I smiled and looked to him, and to my shock I saw him
looking at me, his eyes looking at mine in full confusion and shock, he saw
me…I knew it he was looking e, he, he saw me.
But releasing his state again and feeling the release he had
on his ankle he shook his head and kicked the the ground of the pool to help
send him to the surface, I looked back down and found the chain was gone, it
had vanished.
I looked back up and found that Eriol was climbing out of
the pool, I swam to the surface, reaching the top I looked at him, he was
sitting at the edge of the pool, catching air as he combed his fingers back
through his hair to pull it out of his eyes, Nakuru was hugging him from the
side, tearful as she told him how she couldn’t find him, Spinner was smiling as
he sat on the other side of the teen.
His wound was wrapped by cloth, its bleeding had stopped.
But instead Eriol looked up, a small frown on his face as he
scanned the water, was he looking for me? He past over me so I knew he didn’t
see me.
“What happened Eriol?” Nakuru asked as she loosened her hug
on him, he frowned as he shook his head, “I don’t know, something was holding
me under…but…someone…someone saved me” Nakuru looked at her master, I was
holding my breath, had he recognised me? Or was I just a shimmer of light? No,
he had looked into my eyes, I saw his shock when he did.
“Who?” Spinner asked, and once again I watched as Eriol
scanned the water, passing over me, “Syaoran…I think it was Syaoran” my heart
stopped, I don’t know if I felt excited or scared, surly it was excitement
because I was smiling, I hadn’t been seen since I met the old man, I was
feeling lonely without being noticed.
Eriol shook his head, Nakuru stood, helping him to his feet,
“Let’s go inside, I’ll make you a warm drink” she said and with his nod they
walked back to the house, Eriol casting one last look at the pool.
I followed shortly after, my cloths already dry as I stepped
out of the pool, I looked over my shoulder to anyone that may have been the
cause of this, I remembered the old mans words, dark spirits, they like to
meddle with destiny, but my destiny had been meddled with, a hunter had changed
it…and that’s when it hit, why had I not seen this before? The hunter, the
spirits they have the same power as me except they use it for their pleasure
and entertainment, they put the thought into the Hunter’s head to seek me out,
to destroy me, and thinking it was his thought, his idea, he carried out their
wishes.
I felt sudden sadness, will they stop, leave Eriol alone
knowing their wish had not been filled out? Or would they be even more
determined to kill Eriol?
I felt fear for the first time in ages, not just plain fear
as I had felt when I knew Eriol was going to die, but fear of what was too
happen, that he was to prevent something that may just end up being destiny.
I walked through the wall and into the hallway of the house,
it was large as it was long, there were stairs further ahead, to the side I
could hear voices, I walked through the wall and found myself in a lounge room,
it was large as all rooms seemed to be in this house, the windows were as long
as upstairs ones were, they reached the ground with light curtains on either
side, a wind was blowing them out, there was a large tv
to one side and a long L shaped lounge with two single lounges on either side,
there was a large-low red ceder table, on it was a book and two empty cups,
there was a large bookshelf to the right, near the entrance, the carpet – like
upstairs – was blue, it also had a sheep skin of black large, with the coffee
table sitting on it, over the lounges where large throw over blankets with
European styles and colours of rusted reds and gold, soft mossy greens and
trims of copper gold.
Eriol was already dry, it made me wonder how long I had been
outside, I saw that the sun had already set and few stars were out, Nakuru was
lying on the lounge, a magazine at arms length as she read aloud, Spinner was
no where in sight, Eriol was lying on the other half of the lounge, one leg
lying flat while the other was bent at the knee, his head resting comfortably
in a large cushion, that’s when I realised he was sleeping, his eyes closed,
his head tilted to one side, his hair falling over his face, his lips parted
only slightly.
I shook my head, how can I be thinking like this, this is
Eriol, my worst enemy, I hated him, I hated everything about him, and yet here
I was in his house, a spirit, watching him sleep.
I decided to stay here for a while longer; I needed to make
sure the dark spirits would leave Eriol alone, I felt no danger for the others.
