It was an hour later. Seras found herself back in the dirty room she'd been held in. Her mouth had a trickle of blood running down it. She lay on the floor. It was all she had the strength to do. Hunger and exhaustion kept her extremely weak. Her body was wracked with pain from being repeatedly flogged. She felt as if she would just expire then and there. The only thing that kept her from giving up was the thought of her master Alucard. She thought of him every second that she could. Every memory she had of him she played in her mind over and over. Even the times he chided her for not drinking blood were of some comfort to her.
She thought back to the night she met him. She remembered his cocky attitude and how he laughed when she shot him thinking he was a threat. But then she remembered how tenderly he brought her across and made her a vampire. How he'd insisted that she be made a member of Hellsing despite Integra's disdain for Alucard's insubordination. She realized that what he’d done could have gotten him into a great deal of trouble. But he entertained the notion of getting into trouble. He liked pushing his master's buttons. She thought of everything she could that had his face, his voice, and his presence. It was those thoughts that got her through, that gave her the will to exist.
Alucard waited for the cover of darkness to emerge from his hiding place. He'd fed on rats that crossed his path. It wasn't particularly pleasant but he dared not feed upon the human populace. He liked pushing Integra's buttons, but at the moment getting himself into major trouble wasn't wise. He had to find Seras. He had to know why she didn't respond to him. He had to know why he couldn't sense her. It wasn't like her to not respond to him. It wasn't like her to be away from him this long. Alucard knew how Seras clung to him. She worshipped the vampire and never liked to be away from him for too long. It wasn't like her at all. He had a feeling she'd gotten into serious trouble.
"I should not have let her go alone. I should have gone with her. She wasn't ready to be on her own yet. She isn't free. But she wanted to prove to me that she could do this. I should have gone against it." He said to himself angrily clenching his gloved fists. He knew better, yet he allowed her to be away from him.
Seras lay on the floor. Her eyes barely open. She could still hear footsteps approaching her room. She heard the door open. She dreaded what was coming. She was sure Sarlis was going to have her tortured some more to try to get the location of Hellsing from her. There were two guards coming toward her. She kept her eyes open just enough to see them.
"I'm sorry master. I shouldn't have gone off alone. I should have taken your blood when you offered it to me." She thought as a single tear fell from her eye. The two men picked Seras up and dragged her back to the interrogation room.
Alucard searched throughout the city of Paris for any sign of Seras. He wouldn't stop until he found her and brought her back home. He knew now that she wasn't staying away from him because she wanted to. She was being held against her will. But how could this be? She had his blood, and she had vampire's strength. He knew she didn't feed as much as she needed to but she did drink at least enough to keep her strength up.
"Where are you police girl? Why can't I sense you? Why haven't you called out to me?" He asked himself. He would find her. Come hell or high water he would find her.
Seras cringed at the whip. Though she was too weak to show it, the pain was still intense. Again Sarlis asked the same question and again she stayed quiet. He moved to strike again until one of his associates stopped him.
"Perhaps if we gave her just enough blood to enable her to speak she would be more willing. The girl is so weakened she can hardly open her mouth. Give her just a little blood and perhaps she'll be more cooperative. She can't very well tell you what you want to know if she's not strong enough to speak." He said.
"Give her the minutest amount. I don't want her strong enough to kill us all." Sarlis ordered. The nurse took a needle and withdrew a tiny amount from a bag of transfusion blood. She then injected it into Seras's arm. It was a very small amount, not even enough to really show inside the needle. But it did give Seras a little bit of strength. She focused very hard with what strength she had and focused on one word.
"Master..."
That one thought traveled from her. Alucard, in the midst of his search suddenly stopped and stood perfectly still. He heard one word in his mind, master.
"Police girl...where are you? Why haven't you contacted me before now?" He thought back.
Seras heard his voice in her head. "I'm sorry master. I'm so sorry..." Was all she could think back to him.
"Police girl, don't stop focusing on me. I'll find you. What's happened to you? Why can't you get to me?" Alucard asked. But there was no answer.
"No. Don't stop thinking to me. Police girl..." He called but there was nothing.
Seras was again too weak to use her telepathy. Alucard's blood ran cold. For the first time in so long he felt something that was foreign to him, fear. He feared not for himself, but for Seras. Those last words gave him an ill feeling. Yes she was a vampire by his blood, but she had not become a free vampire. She did not have the sort of immortality he had. She wouldn't drink; she wouldn't accept the freedom he offered her. He didn't want to think that those would be the last words he ever heard from her.
"She hasn't said a damn thing. Take her back to her cell. I'll decide what to do with her later." Sarlis growled.
The two men untied her from the chair and dragged her back to her cell. They dropped her in the spot where they'd found her. Seras was left on the floor in a heap. She wanted her master. She wanted to be away from this place. She wished it was a nightmare that she could wake up from, but it wasn't a nightmare. This was all too real.
Sarlis sat in the interrogation room. "I think it's time we got rid of that vampire bitch. She isn't going to talk no matter what we do to her." Sarlis growled.
"Sir, the Hellsing Organization will be looking for her. They may already have sent agents to find her as we speak." One of Sarlis’s associates said.
"They can't find her if they don't know where she is. They only know she's in Paris, but they don't know where in Paris. She'll be gone before they can find her." Sarlis replied coldly.
"Then how do you propose to get rid of her? Vampires are very hard to destroy." The associate stated.
"I suppose we'll just have to cut her head off and then burn the body. The ashes can be conveniently disposed of then without anyone knowing. I don't want loose ends coming back to haunt us. Destroy her." Sarlis said coldly.
