Avalanche
Chapter Two: Avalanche
Once the blankets were arranged around the large fireplace in the rooms center, and Yuki had changed out of his wet clothes and Kyo and Haru had managed to cover the broken window enough to keep the furniture from being ruined by the snow. Everyone settled down to the food that Kureno was just finishing.
\"Since when can the rooster cook?\" Kyo was asking Hatori.
\"He\'s always been a good cook. Akito will only have him cook meals at their home.\" Hatori explained.
\"Yes, he will make Akito a good wife someday.\" Shigure teased. Until a couch cushion landed against his head. \"Owe, that hurt.\"
\"Gure, are you okay? Do you need me to kiss it better?\" Ayame squeeked out.
\"Ah, my Aya. You know how to ease my pain.\" Shigure returned.
\"I live for the opportunity.\" Aya said, and then in unison. \"Right!\"
\"You are idiots.\" Yuki stated blankly.
\"That\'s the one thing we agree on.\" Kyo said.
\"The fact that everyone agrees doesn\'t belittle that any, does it?\" Haru asked. \"I think it\'s good that you have something to base a relationship on now.\"
\"Shut up, I don\'t have a relationship with the stupid rat. And for that matter neither do you.\" Kyo ranted. Yuki sighed silently. \'not as long as there are so many people around\' he mused to himself.
When lunch was over, they once more attempted to have some fun in the snow, and returned outside. The snow had continued to fall blanketing the area and hiding the evidence of their earlier time here.
The snowman was only half completed and Ayame couldn\'t find the scarf he was sure he had left right beside it.
Kyo couldn\'t find the snowboard he had brought out before, and was fighting with Haru about where it had ended up. Yuki looked around. The snow was really piling up, and he scanned the horizon, seeing the soft white hills with half way hidden trees scattered among them. The mountain above the cabin was literally overflowing with the soft white powder and as he considered the enjoyment one could get from skiing the near slope, he saw it.
An overhang of ice larger than the cabin. He looked at the slope below it and guaged the distance between the two. If the right impetus was added, this had the potential to be a catastrophe. What else was new?
His weekend was about to get worse, as he turned to Kureno and pointed. The rooster followed the direction of his finger and with eyes widened in fear, nodded back at the rat.
Kureno moved over to where Momiji and Ritsu were digging the Sled out for another ride, and started to gather them into the cabin. Hatori turned at Yuki\'s tap on his shoulder. He too viewed the icepack from the tip of Yuki\'s outstretched finger, and quickly went to move the car into the cover of the carport on the other side of the cabin. Yuki was making his way to wear Kyo and Haru were still engaged in a heated debate about the whereabouts of a certain snowboard as Hatori passed Ayame and Shigure to tell them that the day in the snow was cancelled and some fun inside was in order.
Yuki stood between his battling cousins.
\"We have to go inside, now.\" he said quietly.
\"What?!!! I want to snowboard. You must me Kidding me, Damn Rat. You\'re just afraid I\'ll show you up again.\"
\"Kyo, I am serious. We need to get inside.\"
\"Yes, Cat. Listen when your betters speak. I would think you would have learned to obey by now, but wait. Cat\'s never do become domesticated do they?\"
\"Shut up, you Fat Cow. Just because I don\'t follow around like a puppy, and I don\'t have a nose ring to be led by.\"
\"Um, Guys. We need to keep it quiet. So, why don\'t we just go in?\"
Yuki saw Hatori slip into the cabin, and realized he and his battling cousins were the last one\'s in the snow. Haru would continue to goad Kyo, and the Cat would continue to retaliate. This was going no where. Yuki took action.
\"Haru, go in the cabin.\" he said pushing his cousin ahead. Haru was about to argue when he saw Yuki take hold of Kyo\'s ear and begin pulling the cat along. Haru went through the door just before-
\"Hey, let go!\" Kyo screamed in pain and anger.
\"I am not going to die in the snow trying to get you to listen to me, you baka neko.\"
Kyo put his feet hard into the snow so abruptly that Yuki lost his hold.
\"I am not going anywhere just because you say so.\" He said.
\"Oh, yes, you are!\" and Yuki reached again for the cat, and Kyo put his hands over his ears in defense but Yuki wasn\'t reaching for the cat\'s ears this time. His hands made contact with the other boys neck and he held firmly. Pulling Kyo to him, he planted a firm kiss on the cat\'s lips. Kyo froze. When Yuki pulled away from Kyo, the cat was in shock and the rat pulled him along behind him, with no further arguement.
Once inside the cabin, Kyo regained his composure.
\"Okay, so now were inside. What was that all about?\" and Kyo proceeded to slam the door.
The house shook with the force of his push and continued to shake much harder and longer than normal. The room grew darker and the shaking began to lessen. The sound of glass breaking shook them all even more. Hatori rose and moved toward the sound. He opened one of the bedroom door as Kureno opened a curtain at the other side of the room.
\"The window in our room has broken and the snow is pouring in he told the rooster\", and they rushed in to gather their things from the room and bring them out.
Another bedroom was lost.
Kureno dropped the last of the blankets, and returned to the window. He pulled the curtain away to expose an expanse of white. Hatori crossed to the cabin door and turned the handle gently. When the door cracked open snow began to pour in around the edges. He pushed the door closed with the help of Shigure who had jumped over to help. Ayame had checked the last bedroom, proclaiming it whole. Kyo sat on his bedroll, sulking. Guilt written all over his face. Yuki wanted to rub it in, but didn\'t have the heart. Haru was not so generous.
\"Well, thank you Kyo. Now we are stuck here. And with no beds. I hope you are happy. \"
\"Shut up, Haru!\" Yuki said. \"It was clearly going to happen anyway, right Ha-san?\"
\"Yuki\'s right. The overhang was cracking, Yuki saw it and warned me and Kureno. We got everyone inside. It\'s going to be alright. We have plenty of food, and firewood. We could last two weeks in here.\"
\"TWO WEEKS! Inside here, with nothing to do? We\'ll end up killing each other.\" Kyo shouted.
\"Haven\'t you shouted enough, you stupid cat?\" Haru retorted.
\"Shut up, Ushii, no one asked you.\"
Yuki stood and crossed to sit in between the two and put both hand in the air around him. \"If you two can\'t get along, we don\'t have space to separate you. So behave or I will kick your ass.\"
\"And what do we get if we do behave?\" Haru, clearly on the border of black, asked.
\"Well, now. I will just have to give that some thought.\" Yuki said, leaning toward them each at turns. Haru smirked and Kyo winced.
\"Oh, Shigure, this is going to be a fun weekend.\" Ayame said into his cousins ear.
\"Yes, Aya-kun. We will have to make the fun happen, won\'t we?\" Shigure whispered in return.
