Seras looked out the window as the carriage sped through the dark surroundings to Alucard's castle. The young fledgling noticed the change of her master's mood. He hadn't been his usual self since learning the FREAKS had invaded his homeland. This was very serious to the no life king. Ever since leaving London he hadn't spoken much to her at all except to inform her of what would be taking place once they reached Romania. She was feeling a little neglected emotionally. She knew she should not feel so selfish. This situation was a dangerous one that would naturally require Alucard's concentration. But still she missed her master's attention. Things had been so hectic working for Hellsing the two vampires had not had that much time to themselves. They hadn't been intimate in nearly a month. Seras was beginning to wonder if perhaps her master was losing interest in her.
"I have not forgotten you Seras Victoria." The elder vampire's voice whispered in Seras's mind. She turned and looked at her master. Though he did not look at her directly, the familiar smirk she was accustomed to appeared upon Alucard's face.
"Just because I haven't touched you lately does not mean I haven't thought about it. Why do you think the cheap vampires who face me end up suffering such horrible deaths?" Alucard asked.
Seras quickly got the jest of what her master was saying. He was quite psychotic enough in battle as it was, but add sexual frustration to the mix and the vampire could be down right satanic when dispatching his enemies. She felt her spirits rise a little.
"Don't think for one moment fighting cheap filth is the only thing you and I will be doing here." He said in a darkly wicked tone.
Seras looked out the window as the carriage began to slow down. She looked and saw in the distance a great stone structure. She watched as the building got bigger as the carriage neared closer and closer. The carriage stopped as the driver brought the horses to a standstill. Alucard opened the door and stepped out of the carriage then helped Seras out as well. He stood gazing upon the home he'd not seen in well over a hundred years.
"Master, is this your castle?" Seras asked.
"Yes. From within those walls I ruled as prince of Romania." Alucard answered. "The sun will be coming up soon so I suggest you get your personal affects in order while you can. There is only my coffin so we'll be sharing it while we're here." The master vampire continued.
Seras followed Alucard into the huge structure as he willed the doors opened with a wave of his hand. "Will I ever be able to do that?" Seras asked.
"With time and practice you should be able to. It takes a great deal of effort. You must be able to concentrate and focus. Remember that I make it look easy because I've had centuries of experience. You may learn the skill quickly, but most likely it will take a while for you to master it. The powers of flight and use of the portal are things you will learn for now. You're also going to learn to use your senses since they are far more sensitive than that of a normal human being. You will need them in battle especially against a number of foes. The rest will follow as you gain more experience." Alucard replied.
Seras looked up at the huge ceiling in awe. The walls and interior were aged with dust and decay, but suprisingly much of what was inside was in acceptable condition. She looked to her left and saw a huge portrait hanging on the wall. She walked over to it and looked up at it in amazement. It was Alucard as he was when he was human. His long black hair cascaded gracefully down his broad shoulders. She was suprised to see he had a mustache and a bit of a beard. The one thing she did recognize was he was drapped in red. Appearently the vampire had a thing for the color even in his human days. Alucard strolled over to where Seras stood gazing up at the portrait.
"So it still hangs. I'm suprised it still looks as good as it did when it was first painted. It's well over five hundred years old now." The elder vampire said.
"It was done when you were still human?" Seras asked.
"Yes. I was in my thirties when that portrait was done." Alucard answered. "The night is fading. You should get your belongings settled now before the sun comes up. Come. I will take you to the room we'll be sharing during the night hours. When the sun rises we will stay in the crypt. That is where my coffin is."
Rome: The Vatican's Special Section 13, The Iscariate Organization...
An aged man sat at his desk finishing up a phone call from the Vatican. "Yes, I understand. I am sending my best hunter to Romania to deal with this problem. You have my word it will be dealt with accordingly." Answered Enrico Maxwell. He adjusted his glasses after hanging up the phone. He ran his hand through the long silver hair done into a neat ponytail. A somewhat younger priest stood at his side.
"Shall I send word to Father Anderson?" Asked Father Renaldo.
"That will not be necessary. I am just about to contact him myself. He will be flying to Romania to deal with these bugs before anymore of them come back to Rome to cause trouble." Maxwell answered. As he was about to pick up the phone it rang. He picked up the reciever. He listened intently to what he was being told over the phone. Then as he hung it up a smirk crept across his lips.
"So, it would appear we've got a little competion in Romania. The Hellsing Organization has also been informed of the bug problem spreading in Romania. No doubt they've sent their best hunter to deal with the filth as well. Alexander should find this most interesting. He's fought the undead many times, but never has he gone against the likes of that abomination working for Hellsing. We can conviently kill two birds with one stone. Anderson can end the FREAK infestation in Romania, and destroy our rival's most powerful weapon at the same time." Maxwell said picking up the reciever preparing to dial a number.
"Father Alexander Anderson please..." He said.
The next night Alucard and Seras awoke from their daytime slumber. The stone doors parted as the box opened by the will of the elder vampire. He rose first then helped Seras out of the large coffin. She dusted the dirt off of her back and shook the rest out of her hair. The two walked over to the small metal coffins where their blood supplies rested. Alucard picked up the remote and pressed the button opening one of the containers. A bit of mist rose from the condensation of damp air and dry ice keeping the blood packs chilled.
"I suggest you feed well tonight Seras. We should be seeing a lot of action tonight. It's a pity the enemies are just cheap fakes. They should give you quite the work out, but they won't be much competition for me. It might be a lot of fun at first, but the feeling wears off soon enough. They're so damn easy to do away with. All talk and little action as far as I'm concerned. They can be a challenge for a young fledgling such as yourself, but a seasoned master like myself requires something much stronger." Alucard said.
"What is you hope to run into master?" Seras asked.
"Another true vampire like myself. To be challenged by an opponent worthy of my power is what I want. My talents are so often wasted on pretenders and frauds." The master vampire answered.
Seras quickly finished off two blood packs before she heard footsteps approaching the castle grounds. "Someone's coming." She said.
"Your senses are improving. It's probably Ferguson bringing the human troops to prepare for the hunt. But just in case..." Alucard stopped and withdrew his Jackul. "Better to be prepared in case it's something other than what we're expecting."
The two vampires approached the door slowly. Alucard cocked his head upward listening to a host of voices outside. He recognized three voices in particular, Ferguson, Pickman and Garreth. "It's safe." Alucard said as he and Seras stepped outside the castle through a portal he'd opened.
"Alucard, a group of ghouls has been sited in a clearing not far from the village we're positioned at. So far there seems to be only ten of them, but it's possible the host is still somewhere nearby. It may have infected others as well as the ghouls we're faced with now. We'll need you and Seras on this one." Ferguson said.
"Very well. Time to go to work." Alucard said looking at Seras.
The human troops followed behind the two vampires as they went in search of their prey. It didn't take long for them to find what they were searching for. Near a group of trees were several victims of a FREAK host. They looked hungrily at the human army and began drooling at the smell of fresh human blood so close to them.
A silver bullet ripped through the darkness hitting a female target squarely in the head. Within seconds she turned to a pile of dust. Alucard lowered his Jackul and faked a yawn. "How utterly pitiful. FREAKS and ghouls are so easy to get rid of." He said with a sigh of boredom.
Seras drew out her gun and began firing at the ghouls. She took three out with ease. "You're right master. This is pitifully easy." She said firing her gun at another ghoulish zombie.
"There's a way to destroy these pathetic copies without wasting so much fire power. After the battle I'm going to teach you how to do this." Alucard said as a sadistic smile crept upon his lips. Then he lunged toward a male ghoul and shot his hand straight through the creature's chest. The ghoul let out a wail of agony before it disentegrated as Alucard pulled his hand out of the gaping hole.
"Pickman, behind you!" Seras shouted sensing a ghoul approaching. Pickman turned around just in the nick of time and blasted the creature before it landed upon its victim.
Alucard prepared to dispatch another ghoul when he caught the scent of something. He stopped and cocked his head to the sky. Something flashed by him in the distance. A normal human would not have seen it, but a powerful elder like Alucard noticed it easily.
"Stay here and help get rid of these bastards. I've just caught the scent of something very interesting." He said to Seras as he vanished from her side. She continued fighting as her master had ordered.
A moment later Alucard materialized in a dark forest not far from the battle. He looked around cautiously. He caught the scent of dead blood in the air. He wriggled his nose at the stench. It was the same scent he smelled upon the ghouls he and Seras along with the human troops were erradicating. He looked and saw a figure hunched over in a small thicket. It looked up as its eyes blazed red in the darkness. It cowered in the darkness at Alucard's menacing form. The vampire scowled and aimed his Jackul at his target. But before he fire a streak of silver shot out of the blackness and hit the FREAK right in the heart.
"What the hell?" Alucard growled as he watched the FREAK turn to dust. He turned around but found no one there. Then he heard what sounded like a maniacal laugh before it faded into the distance.
Alucard walked toward the pile of dust and looked at the strange blade as it lay upon the ground. He picked it up by the handle. The elder vampire looked at the strange looking blade for a moment and touched his finger to it. He felt his skin start to burn through his white glove.
"A blade made of blessed silver. This is not a Hellsing approved weapon. Someone is interfering with my fun." He said as he turned to leave the scene. As he was about to vanish he saw yet another flash in the darkness. Someone or something was keeping tabs on the vampire. A wicked smile graced the vampire's face.
"Perhaps this could be interesting." He said with a maniacal chuckle. He vanished from the site with the strange blade still in his hand.
Alucard soon rejoined Seras and the human troops. The rest of the ghouls had been taken out while Alucard was preoccupied with his quarry.
"The rest of the ghouls have been taken care of master." Seras reported.
"I located the host who infected the villagers. But someone else took him out before I had the chance." Alucard replied.
"What do you mean Alucard? None of the villagers have dared to take on a FREAK by themselves." Ferguson said.
"I didn't see who it was. Whomever it was moved very quickly. I could only see a flash of silver, nothing more. The rival left something behind though. It's a blade made of blessed silver." Alucard answered. He looked in the distance knowing someone was keeping a close eye on the Hellsing army. He found the prospect of a rival very interesting. Perhaps this would be the challenge he was looking for.
In the darkness Alexander Anderson watched the Hellsing group leave the scene after it was sterilized. He laughed silently. The fact that he'd stolen a victory from Alucard pleased him. "So he is the Hound of Hellsing. I shall dispatch this devil and strike the final nail in the Hellsing coffin." The Vatican Paladin said confidently. "I shall strike down all such abominations of the Earth."
