Nagi had separated himself from Schwarz since the fall of Epitaph and the Rosenkruez. He had been the un-proclaimed leader of the group even though Bradley did most of the talking. To say that he was completely cut off from Schwarz would be a lie; he still spoke to Schuldich when he found times to be unbearable. How could things get any worse? He had left his group of villains to pursue a solo career working for the single most powerful man in the Takatori family. He lived in an apartment barely large enough for him in a neighborhood constantly riddled with crime. But this is what he was accustomed to. But what had he to fear? Death? Yeah right.
Chapter 2: How was Heaven when you left it?
The man clad in all black bit down on the butt of his cigarette as he lined the scope of his sniper rifle. Even the tinted windows of the charcoal town car were no match for this guy's excellent marksmanship. He swallowed hard. With the reward money he would receive he could finally take his wife out on an expensive dinner date, like she had always wanted. He would also be able to send his daughter to high school. Things would definitely be better for him once the man in the automobile were dead. What did the wealthy know, anyhow? After all, they only sit in their mansions and worry about how much money they have and how they could never spend it in a lifetime while families like his were suffering to make ends meet.
The man's finger itched to pull the trigger, one shot and all would be over; just one shot. A hand was placed on his head from behind. Before he could turn around he felt a jagged pain in his skull making his nose bleed. Before he could scream his world went black. He didn't even get to see his killer; a teenage boy clad in black, an expression that remained blank and unfaltering. Black hair fell unto one eye, shielding it from view.
He reached into his pocket and drew out a cell phone, dialing, and placing it to his ear.
There was silence in the car. Neither Omi nor Rex knew what to say to one another. Rex admired Omi in a way that she had never admired anyone. She though him the bravest person she had ever known and was almost intimidated by the thought of who he truly was on the inside; could no one reach him?
Omi stared blankly out the car window, raindrops sliding down the pane as the car raced down the freeway. He could feel Rex's gaze but could not bring himself to meet it. He knew what she was thinking and hoped to prevent her from saying anything. The sudden ring brought a gasp from Rex and a jump from Omi. Perhaps the silence was a bit tenser than they had realized. Rex kept her attention upon Omi who reached into the pocket of his business suit and pulled out a cell phone, flipping it open and putting the receiver to his ear.
"Yes?" There was a slight pause.
"It's done." said the monotonous deep voice from the other end.
"Thank you." Omi said before hanging up, sliding the cell back into its place. His gaze returned to the window, only this time he watched Rex in the reflection. She seemed concerned. Ever since there had been a new group of men selected for Weiss she realized that he seemed to distance himself from her, leaving their relationship strictly professional. For some reason she couldn't help but wonder if Omi felt somehow betrayed by the fact that Ken and Yohji were no longer applicable members for Weiss.
"I know what you're thinking, Rex." Omi spoke to her without turning to her. She remained silent. "I know you think I'm concerned about Weiss.and you're right." There was a slight pause before he continued.
"But I don't want a new leader, I want Abyssian." Rex frowned a bit. "I know he will move on. That is what sets him apart from any member of Weiss thus far. Abyssian does not let anything get in his way of a mission." Omi turned to face the other sitting next to him.
"I have been too careless in my selection of Weiss." Rex knew he was referring to both Kyo and Sena. "But I believe with Abyssian as my main pawn. I cannot lose."
"Persia." Rex was almost speechless. Omi was now beginning to sound like a Takatori. The thought sent a chill down her spine. The Takatori's would use anyone to get what they wanted. Rex knew Omi was really a kind and gentle person, would he really sacrifice Aya to protect himself?
Aya stared out the window of his hospital room gazing at all those below. His eyes seemed focused yet he saw nothing. All he could think about was what the nurse, Asuka had said to him the day before.
'A boy.he said his name was Nagi.' Aya turned from the window and moved to the door. Before he could reach the handle, it turned and clicked. He took a step back as Asuka entered.
"Oh! You surprised me." She smiled. Yohji.your taste has changed a bit. Aya thought as he stared to the seemingly defenseless woman before him. At least she wouldn't be able to kick his ass like all the rest.
"And where do you think you're going?" She questioned him with a raised brow. He didn't see into the humor.
"I would like my clothes." Her expression fell.
"You should really stay here for at least another day.just to be sure." Aya gave her a serious look that said one more day would drive him to madness. She sighed and told him to wait five minutes for her to return with his belongings. He did as she had said, not moving from his spot in front of the door. When she returned, he took up his clothes. Asuka took one last look at him and laughed.
"Something funny?" Aya asked. Asuka quickly ceased.
"I'm sorry.you just remind me so much of my husband!"
"Husband?"
"Yes! He is always so impatient! Oh, I'm so sorry.I shouldn't have said that." Aya simply stared at her. "Well, I'll leave you to get changed and return with some papers for you to sign." Aya watched as she departed and smirked. So, Yohji and I are similar hmm.
When Asuka returned with the forms she found the hospital room empty, as she had suspected. She looked to the bed where he had laid. Such a mysterious person, wouldn't Yohji be interested to hear the story.
Nagi tried in vain to scrub the blood out of his white undershirt. His bathroom sink was staining red and would smell forever of copper. Aya had bleed to much it soaked through his black uniform and even stained his skin beneath. He cursed and tossed the shirt the few feet to the tub with a sloppy thud. He sat upon the cracked toilet seat and ran his fingers through his hair, gripping the tendrils. Why had that happened.? Nagi couldn't explain it reasonably, even to himself. Yet the evidence was clear.he had saved Fujimiya from death.
He inhaled deeply and stood, exiting the small hole in the wall that was his bathroom and went instead to his shit-hole of a bedroom; seating himself upon the squeaky mattress. Police sirens could be heard nearly outside, it was almost a comforting sound; that is until his phone rang.
Nagi stood, crossing the span of the room to retrieve the device from a table near the door. He knew already who it was for only they used this line. He flipped it open and put the end to his ear, not bothering to say any form of greeting.
"I have an assignment for you." Persia's voice came from the other end. Nagi let a moment of silence pass before he spoke.
"I'm listening."
No sooner had Aya returned to the main headquarters, beneath a newly reconstructed flower shop, did his fellow Weiss bombard him with questions of his absence. The last thing Aya needed was a lecture. Who were these kids and who the hell did they think they were telling him how to do his job.
"We have a new mission from Persia!" Was one of the statements said between the three and that was all Aya needed to hear. He walked past them even as they continued talking. They were forced to silence as he walked up the stairs to his room and closed the door.
Aya signed on to his computer knowing Persia sends the same message to each of the Weiss accounts for private access. He left the computer to load and removed his shirt, tossing it into the hamper; before he could retrieve a new one his computer chimed that he had mail. "You have 2 unread messages." This brought Aya's attention immediately to the screen. Two, how could he have missed one?
He opened the message from Persia without delay, the movie player file on his computer popping up instantly with Persia's distorted image and began to play.
"Weiss, I have a new mission for you." The distorted voice began as it always had. Aya took a seat in his computer chair, eyes fixed on the screen. "There have been a series of recent assassinations of the CEOs of major corporations." Pictures of crime scene investigations began to fill the screen. ".These CEOs were the leaders of large international science commerce. Their intentions were to share information with those overseas in an attempt to stop the attempt at a recreation of another Epitaph." Aya's eyes narrowed. "There have already been two attempted constructions of Epitaph discovered thus far; one in Germany, the other in America. but because these CEOs have managed to keep a strict link of information regarding the Epitaph model flowing smoothly between them, the prevention has been successful. There has been talk that the ones to now take over the companies have inserted themselves into the running illegally and may be working to harness the information to rebuild Kowa Academy and continue the research."
"Your jobs are to investigate these new corporate business men to try and find what organization they may be working for. Abyssian is to remain inactive completely in this mission.Hunters of Tomorrow.Hunt down and prevent the future of these dark beasts!" Inactive.? But why all of the sudden? This just didn't make sense. Aya closed the email and continued through his inbox. There was another message from Persia; however, this one was not in video format.
Aya was hesitant to open the message. What if it was a hacker trying to boot into his system? His curiosity got the better of him and he opened the message despite his gut feeling. The message popped up normally in a separate window and there was a small letter addressed to Abyssian. He began to scan the screen with critical eyes.
Abyssian:
If you are reading this then you have watched the previous mission transmission. You're probably wondering why I have your status as inactive. I'll tell you, I have a secret mission for you, should you choose to accept it. The reason I chose to display it to you in this format was incase someone were listening in through the door. I do not wish the other Weiss members knowing about this mission, that is why I have them busied with their current assignment. If you are willing to comply then simply reply with a blank message and I will fax you your instructions.
Persia
What was this all about? What was Persia thinking? Had it occurred to him that he was requiring Aya to go against the other Weiss by accepting a secret mission? Aya shook his head. Of course he had to know, if he didn't then he wouldn't have even asked this of him in the first place. What choice did he have? He couldn't refuse a mission from Persia. He replied to the message with a blank one as he was asked. Almost instantly the fax machine beside the printer rang and began accepting the fax. Aya took up the piece of paper and scanned it. It was a map with simple instructions scribbled beneath by hand with a ball point pen. He mouthed the words as he read them.
"Be here, tomorrow, no later than eight p.m. be on guard and stay out of sight. You'll know what to do. I'm counting on you." There was a red star on the computer generated map indicating the location Persia had been referring to. Aya recognized it, it was the casino run by friends of the Takatori family, men who were said to be a part of the Japanese Mafia. Aya's mind began racing with questions, but he quickly dismissed them, a mission was a mission.
Nagi looked to his watch. "Seven thirty-six." He said aloud as he peered down at the brightly lit casino from the heights of a neighboring skyscraper roof. He had recalled the conversation from Persia on his cell phone the night before. He had been brief but clear on his instructions, to be at the casino at eight o' clock and no later. He stood tall; the wind caught his black hair and whipped it about his face. He clenched his gloved hands and narrowed his eyes as he saw Persia's town car pull into the valet.
Aya was already inside, he had found himself a seat at one of the blackjack tables and placed a bet starting off a slow game between him and two other people. The place seemed pretty desolate considering a big wig Takatori was going to be attending. Then again, Aya thought, I'm sure this is strictly a private party. He glanced at his wrist watch, seven-forty. Then a familiar figure caught the corner of Aya's eye, Omi walked through the front doors surrounded by older men dressed much the same as he. Aya's eyes narrowed nothing too dangerous about a group of businessmen.
Persia remained calm as he walked and shared conversation with the men, for a moment he caught sight of Aya who had strategically taken a table near the door, but not too near. Almost as quickly as Persia had seen him did he turn his attention back to the men. Aya had a feeling that Persia knew something he didn't. and that worried him.
"Place your bet, sir?" The dealer asked gazing in Aya's direction. Aya turned and faced the table once more, before he could make a bet, a figure caught his focus. It was a dark figure standing at the top of the stairs near a group of slot machines, Aya's expression darkened as he gathered what remained of his chips and stood from the table.
"Excuse me." Was all he said before he made his way across the casino.
There he is. Nagi thought as he spotted Persia come through the door with a group of businessmen. He had taken cover near a group of slot machines on the second floor, a good distance away. As Persia began to make his way further into the casino, a familiar aura caught Nagi's senses. His focus turned to see a familiar person standing from a card table and begin to make their way in his direction. Nagi gasped internally. Fujimiya! It was obvious Aya was trying to be inconspicuous, but the expression on his face was unmistakable. Nagi had no choice but to turn and make his way in the opposite direction. Persia had never said anything about a member of Weiss.
Aya quickened his pace when he saw Nagi had noticed him advancing and began to retreat deeper into the casino. Even if he had theoretically saved his life, he was still a member of Schwarz, an enemy! So he is why I'm here.Aya thought as he made his way up the stairs and quickly followed Nagi's trail.
Nagi slipped into a maintenance room and closed the door a crack behind him. Why was Aya hunting him? Was Aya the reason he was here? Of course! That had to be it! Sudden slow footsteps drew Nagi's attention. He knew it was Aya, stalking him out. Nagi clenched his hands, he would teleport if he needed to.but that took so much energy out of him, he wasn't sure if he could pull it off as well as face Aya hand to hand. Nagi waited a few moments until the footsteps ceased. He gave a sigh of relief and peered out the door. He looked to one side and before he could glance to the other he was rewarded by a harsh blow to the head. He was sent reeling but before he could hit the floor he was caught by the collar of the shirt and dragged back into the maintenance room, the door slamming behind.
Aya tossed Nagi's still dazed form to the hard floor with a vigorous thud. Almost instantly he was upon the smaller, younger man with a sword to his throat, Aya's free hand gripping the boy's shirt front, pulling him upward, tight against the blade. It didn't take long for Nagi to realize Aya was straddling him. He swallowed hard and looked up into the fierce violet eyes that pulsed rage.
Authors note: Well this chapter was MUCH longer, so I'm sure you're all much more pleased. I purposely leave off at such unbearable cliff-hangers.it's a terrible habit! But the more people who read, rate, and review, the more I'm inspired to continue. **Spoiler** Aya x Nagi in the next chapter. Can you smell the citrus? LOOK FORWARD TO IT!
