Only A Week
Part Two:
Childhood
Cye rapped against the Sage's bedroom door. "Cale! Get up! It's
9:30!"
"M' up, m' up," came the muffled
reply from the other side of the door. After a few minuets of patently waiting,
the sound of snoring resumed. Cye gritted his teeth
in frustration, why me? he thought and swung the door
open.
This could not be Halo's room. Cloths were
scattered on the floor, draws opened and dumped out… it was a mess!
"What did you Do?"
he demanded.
Cale sat up, rubbing sleep out of his eye's, "Wha?" he
slurred.
"This is a mess Cale!
Sage would freek if he saw it this way!" Cye yelled at the sleepy warlord.
"He would?" Cale
asked as he looked around the room, "good, let's
leave it."
"But," Cye
said as he stopped picking up the spilt items, "we can't just leave it
this way."
Cale rolled his eye's,
"Torrent, you're no fun," he said as he pulled on his jeans.
Cye flushed at the flushed at the amount of
bare skin Cale revealed and turned towards the door
as Sekhmet walked in.
"Hey, Cye?
What's this?"
*Click-Whirll*
Sekhmet blinked as the camera flash momentarily
blinded him.
"What is that thing?" Dais asked
as he came up behind Sekhmet.
Cye took the poliroid
camera form Sekhmet's hands, "hey, stand next to
each other," he said to the three.
"What?" Cale
asked.
"Stand next to each other," he
repeated. Shurgging, they stood next to each other.
"Ok, Smile." Cye said raising the camera to
his eye. Laughing nervously, the three smiled and Cye
took the picture.
"What did you do?" Dais asked.
Cye tapped the picture against his other
hand, "just be patient," he said. He smiled as the picture developed
in his hand. "Here you go." He said holding it out to Sekhmet.
The other two gapped over his shoulder as Sekhmet stuttered, "Wha…
what type of sorcery is THIS?
Cye stiffed a giggle, "It's not sorcery,
it's another type of technology, like the doorbell or
the android."
"How dose it work?" Cale asked as he took the camera from Cye.
"Well, you look at something you want
photographed through this little square," he said pointing at the view
finder, "and push this button."
Cale looked through the view finder at
different things and finally stopped at Cye,
"Smile Torrent," he said. Cye smiled and Cale snapped the picture.
Sekhmet snatched the picture from the camera
before snatching the camera it's self from Cale's
grasp. "My turn," he said and dashed out the door taking photographs
of everything, including White Blaze asleep in the hall.
"Hey, I want a turn too!" Dais
called after him and dashed out the door.
~*~*~*~*~
Sekhmet went nuts with the camera taking pictures
of everything! Even Whiteblaze
trying to take a nap in the hall. He refused to allow anyone else to
take pictures, much to the disappointment of Dais. Sekhmet
even took the camera to the city. He looked like an out of place tourist.
Cale, Dais, and Cye
followed Sekhmet down the street of the city as he
went on ahead photographing the street, cars, the stop light, (a photo for each
color) the people and just about everything.
"Maybe it was a bad idea to give him
that," Cye mumbled.
Cale rolled his eyes, "with Sekhmet, anything is a bad idea," he said.
Dais cupped his hands around his mouth,
"hey DIP STICK!" Cye glanced at Dais, Dip
Stick? "Why don't you give me a turn with that thing?"
Sekhmet turned around and walked backwards as to
stick his tongue out at Dais.
"Oh that's mature!" Cale called. Sekhmet shrugged and
turned around again.
Cye observed silently. Weird, he
thought. It was odd that three of the four he fought so long against were
walking down a city street with him joking around as if nothing ever happened
to them. It was a strange feeling. He shook his head, Cye,
you think too much.
"Hey CYE!" Sekhmet's voice
pulled Cye out of his musing, "the 'camera' wont work any more!" he told them with a
very childish pout on his face.
Cye took the camera from him and looked it
over, "it just needs more film," he explained. "There should be
a camera store around here somewhere."
Cale tugged his arm, "is that it?"
he asked.
Cye glanced over at where he pointed and
shook his head, "No, that's the children's toy store."
"A store of
children's toy's?"
Dais asked.
Cye shrugged a little, "that's basically
it."
"Why don't the parents make the toys
for the children?" Dais asked.
Cye frowned as he pondered his answer,
"Parents don't really have the time anymore to actually build their
children's toys now a day." He looked across the street and then back at
the three, "did your parents ever make you toy's?"
Dais coughed, Sekhmet
looked away and Cale looked wistfully at the store. Cye mentally kicked himself Way to go Cye, Open mouth, insert foot!
"Let's go in," Cale suddenly said.
Dais, Sekhmet
and Cye stared at Cale who
was already crossing the street, much to the annoyance of the morning
commuters.
Cye turned to ask if Cale
was ever like this but Dais and Sekhmet just shrugged
and followed their companion. Shaking his head at the blaring horns and choice
words drivers were shouting, he followed the former warlords across the street.
Crosswalks… need to teach them crosswalks.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Cye caught up with Dais and Sekhmet who stood at the door, "ok where did he
go?"
*Whump*
Cye turned rubbing his head and ignoring the
two sniggering men behind him where the large multi colored ball had come from.
A four-year-old boy stood there laughing at Cye. Just behind him stood a very red Cale.
"Uh, I meant to throw it at him,"
he said pointing at the child who had snatched the ball and run off.
Controlling his laughter at the look on Cale's face, unlike Dais and Sekhmet
behind him, Cye smiled at the blushing man before
him. "Understandable." He looked around, "uh… Dais?" he looked
around for the missing warlord.
"Neat!" Dais said as he came up
to Cye, a bubble gun in hand, "but what's the
point?" he asked as he pulled the trigger. A stream of bubbles entered
into existence.
Cye shrugged, "it's just to make
bubbles," he told him. He looked around and sighed heavily as he noticed Cale and Sekhmet had disappeared.
I definitely have to charge Kyrura for this.
He thought. "Come on," he said grabbing ahold
of Dais' sleeve and pulled Dais down the isle a stream of bubbles in their wake.
*~*~*~*~*~*
After stopping repeatedly to look at toy
trucks, action figures, craft sets, coloring books, bikes and practically
dragging Dais through the Barbie isle, the finally found the missing two. Sekhmet stood next to Cale who
was playing a video try out machine. Boxes of different shapes, sizes and
colors dumped at their feet.
"Die evil sheep,
DIE!" Cale shouted
Cye looked over the mans
shoulder and nearly fell over as he saw Spyro the
Dragon prance along the screen flaying sheep every chance Cale
got.
"Wow," Dais said as he watched.
"Oh, Dais," Sekhmet
said as he saw his friend, "look what I found." He bent down and
rummaged through the boxes on the floor before standing up triumphantly.
Dais set down his boxes that he had picked
up along the way, much to the annoyance of Cye, and
took the box Sekhmet held out. Cye
rolled his eyes at the Spider man action figure.
"Cye, can
you get this for us?" Cale asked pointing to Spyro on the screen.
Cye shook his head, "no, now let's
go!"
Cale pouted, "Why not?" he whined.
"Because it's too expensive, now
let's go," Cye said, "and you are NOT
getting all this stuff!"
Sekhmet, Dais and Cale
stood quietly like chaste children being scolded by their mother.
Sekhmet looked around at the boxes, his eyes still
coming to rest at the bubble gun still in Dais' hands. "We never had
things like this when we were children… Well we didn't!" He said to Dais
and Cale's glares.
Cye felt so low, "What do you remember
of your childhood?" he asked
Dais shook his head, "Talpah," he said, "memories
would only distract us from our purpose. But… I do
remember my mothers smile."
"I remember my brothers," Sekhmet said, "they were
always pushing me into the mud."
Cale remained silent.
"Cale?" Cye asked.
"There was nothing in my childhood to
remember.
Cey was silent, the full impact of what these
men when through. He watched Spyro on the screen and
sighed, "Stay here and I'll see about getting the game then we'll go pay
for all this." He said to the shocked warlords. He smiled, "I'll be
right back."
*~*~*~*~*
After much hunting and patiently waiting, Cye finally located at sales person to open the cabinet to
get the game.
Cye looked at the abandoned boxes,
"Great, now where are they?"
The sales boy smiled at him,
"babysitting you younger siblings?" he asked
"HEY CYE! CHECK THIS OUT!" Sekhmet
said as he glided by on a skateboard.
"You could say that," Cye mumbled taking the game from the shocked sales boy.
*~*~*~*~*
"Cye?
What are these?" Dais asked at the check out line.
Cye glanced at them, "water
balloons," he said
"What are they for?" Cale asked.
"For fun," he told them
"How can they be fun?"
Cye glanced at the sale girl who was watching
and trying not to smile. "Look, I'll explain later." He said grabbing
the balloons and tossing them on the counter. I'll never survive this week!He
thought desperately.
He almost choked when he heard the total.
Some what reluctantly he pulled out his check book, and if the rest of the
week is like this neither will my credit!
DONE!
