Chapter two
Umiko unlocked her apartment door and slipped out of her shoes. She stood on the cool wood floor and exhaled the day out of her lungs. She set her bag down, closed the door and let the darkness surround her. She lover her apartment, but she hated that there were no light switches. After a year and a half of stumbling in the dark to find a lamp, she had memorized the layout. After letting her eyes adjust, she slowly began walking toward her bedroom. She really should eat something, but she didn't think any food would pass the lump still living in her throat. Damn that Yuki-san, she thought, narrowing her eyes.
She stepped into her room and walked toward the bed. She was looking forward to the oblivion sleep was promising her. She paused. She thought she heard a small shuffle behind her.
"What is that?" she thought listening intently. She couldn't hear anything more. She shrugged it off.
"Hmmm, must have been my imagination."
She took another step and felt herself being grabbed forcefully from behind.
"Yuuuuuuuuuukiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...,"Shuichi whined.
Eiri sighed and lit his cigarette.
"What?"
"Are you happy?"
Eiri exhaled smoke and turned to look at his pink-haired lover sitting on the couch. His green eyes looked worried. Eiri frowned. He'd never admit that a worried Shuichi was upsetting to him.
"I guess so," he shrugged, "Why do you ask?"
"No reason," Shuichi smiled. "You just seem, I don't know, pre-occupied." He fiddled with the hem of his favorite blue shirt. Maybe if he changed the subject, Eiri would talk with him.
"Yuki?"
"What?" I swear, Eiri thought, I lose more breath by sighing around Shuichi than any thing else.
"Um...did you get to see Umiko on your way in?"
Shuichi felt rather than heard Yuki's quick intake of air.
"Don't talk to me about her."
"What? W...why not? She does so much for m.."
"I said SHUT UP ABOUT HER!"
Oh my god, Umiko thought. I'm trapped in my apartment with a crazy person. She felt them lean into her back. No, she thought. A crazy man. He was holding her so tightly, there was no way she'd be able to break free. One hand over her mouth so she couldn't scream for help, the other held tightly over her chest. She felt him relax slightly and he began caressing her breasts. She took a deep breath, preparing herself for the worse.
Wait a second, she thought. I know that smell. I know that cologne. And then she did it...the one thing she knew would set her free.
"Yuck! Umiko, that's disgusting!"
"Oh, and making me think I'm about to be tortured and killed isn't!"
"Who the hell told you it was cool to lick someone's palm? It feels gross, and it's not very ladylike."
Umiko walked over to her bedside lamp and looked at her intruder.
"It's moments like these when I regret giving you a key."
"No, it's moments like these when you're glad you gave me a key. I make life more interesting for you." Hiroshi moved his long red hair out of his face and lifted a rose by the stem. "I brought this for you. I figured you'd be in a not so happy place after today. And, I ordered take out. It should be here soon. Shuichi and Yuki-san aren't the only ones who should get to have a nice evening."
Umiko smiled brightly and reached for the rose. Hiro grabbed her arm lightly, kissing the inside of her wrist, before relinquishing the rose. He stared down into her eyes and moved a few stray silver hairs off of her face. Umiko turned her face up for a kiss and he closed the space between them. He pressed his lips gently to hers, waiting for her mouth to open slightly, before their dancing tongues met.
"How long can you stay?" she whispered into his ear.
"All night. Ayaka is in Kyoto," he whispered back.
She smiled up at him. She knew he loved Ayaka. She also knew he loved her. Umiko watched him walk to the living room, leaving her with her thoughts. I only want him to be happy, she thought. He wouldn't be able to be happy with me. They both knew Shuichi would never understand.
***Well, that's all I have so far. Is it worth moving on? Let me know.
