Joe's Accidental Tag-Along

Chapter Two - "Joe\'s Accidental Tag-along"

The only way to gain a miracle, Wormmon, is to exploit those capable of miracles. But before I can even conceive to manipulate the "gods" of time, I need to make sure my glorious plan will even work. Wormmon, inform the Saberleomon they\'ll need to bring me a Greymon, fully controlled. If ice can slow the body to near death levels and sustain life at almost a standstill, then with dark energy, fire should speed it up, should it not? Now, to lure a test product from the real world...

Joe quickened his pace as he weaved through the packed street. It was almost impossible to get anywhere in Japan at this hour. But, that was made worse by the fact that spring break was beginning today for them. For now, all he really wanted was to get to Davis\' place, get this meeting over with, and get his report finished. Then he could enjoy his time off, once that job was done. That is, if they let him live. Jade wouldn\'t be altogether too long, and he knew it. He just hoped that whatever this digi-destined meeting wasn\'t overly serious. How bad could the Kaiser be? If it involved the past destineds though, then you can bet that it is. He\'d just have to tell them right away. Before he knew it, he was at the building. He must have zoned out through his thoughts; it was a ten minute walk, and it felt like it was only a few seconds. He shrugged it off as he rounded the corner of the lot, and went to reach up to the button-call panel, but the main doors were left propped open. Well, that really screams safety, Davis... he thought, and kicked out the rock that was in the way. Even if it wasn\'t Davis that propped the doors open, whoever had done it wasn\'t very swift. It was likely that he was the last person in, anyways. He was always late because of class.

Jade managed to just barely keep Joe within her sights. He was good at darting through the crowds. She wasn\'t. But, as hard as it was, the trip wasn\'t long, and Joe was off in lala land, deep within his head. He wasn\'t ever hard to tail when he was like that. She smiled, despite herself. Some parts of her still loved Joe; but he was far too withdrawn and awkward to be a good suit for the wild-hearted young photojournalist. Her idea of a party was alcohol and loud music; his was books and tea with other med students. Her idea of a date was a rave with metal; his was a candlelit dinner with home cooking and a sappy movie. Part of her loved that; but in time, it would drive her insane, and she knew it. Breaking through her thoughts was the glimmer of the shutting glass door. Jade gasped, and dashed across the parking lot. If it closed, she\'d have to page random people until she found someone dumb enough to let her in, then she\'d have to find her way aimlessly. Luckily for her though, the door caught on the rug, she discovered, as she tugged on the closed door\'s handle. It\'d left it slightly ajar, to her relief. Joe still hadn\'t glanced behind him. He was still carrying on as if nothing was wrong - good. She paused as he moved to enter an apartment a ways away, and ducked back around the corner. He didn\'t see her. Once the door shut, she slid towards the door, and managed to get her toe just over the edge of the frame enough to keep the door from shutting. Carefully, she craned her neck and peeked awkwardly through the peep-hole, for some hint as to if she could get in without being seen. From what miss-shapen, fish-eyed image she could see, the room was open. Jade frowned, and inched the door open a crack more. She tilted her head, and strained to hear the conversation.

"...Joe! You\'re final....re!...Late.....ays."

"What\'d.....iss?"

Jade frowned again. She couldn\'t very well eavesdrop like this, could she? She cracked the door open a smidge more.

"...Jump right into it. Things have changed." spoke Davis. He\'d alwayd had a sexy voice. To bad those goggles were so hideous; she\'d date him otherwise.

"What do you mean, Davis?" Joe asked.

"The Kaiser has dropped off the radar...Completely."

"Isn\'t that a good thing?" commented Mimi. That chick rubbed Jade the wrong way.

"Yeah, but what happened to the sudden rash of violence? He\'s planning something big."

"Hmmm." was all Joe could say. Jade smirked; he\'d forgotten about her coming.

"We need to scout out his Castle." Tai put in. Castle?

"But if we all go, we\'ll arise suspicion..." That one was Matt.

"Guys, I\'ve already thought about this. I\'m taking Veemon and I\'m going in alone." What the hell was a Veemon?

"There\'s no sense taking Veemon!" Cody. Why was he so excited? "I\'ll go. I have Digmon, we can burrow in and be undetected. It makes the most sense."

"I agree." vouched Tai.

"No way! You\'re the youngest. You\'ll get hurt. I\'ll go, I\'m the most expendable."

"Don\'t be a hero, Davis." Sneered Sora.

"Yeah. Cody makes the most sense, even if he IS young He\'s the smallest, and least likely to be discovered. He\'s also faster on his feet than any of us..." Yolei, Jade observed.

"Gang up on me, why don\'t you. FINE, just don\'t get mad at me when he turns up dead!" Davis muttered. He was upset about something by the sounds of him.

"I won\'t turn up dead! There\'s no guarantee I can even get in there, remember? It\'s a floating castle."

"Then take Hawkmon!" Yolei offered.

"Hmm. But I can\'t digivolve him if something goes wrong."

"Then go have a look and come back if you can\'t, and we\'ll send Yolei in with Hawkmon..." Davis spoke, defeatedly. Jade moved to get off one leg, but bumped the door, and made it swing open. She winced, hoping no one noticed it. Suddenly, the door flew open, and before Jade could even fall forward, Davis had dashed into her. The two fell over, Davis on top of her.

"WHOA Davis! I know it\'s been a while, but you need to take a few steps before getting on top of a woman." He blushed deeply, and recoiled off her quickly. As Jade pulled herself up, she continued. "I guess Joe never told you he invited me over?" Davis shot him a thin-eyed glance.

"No, no he didn\'t." Joe looked rather embarrassed. He thought they\'d have alot longer than a few minutes. Jade walked in past Davis, and smiled at the gang therein. Davis closed his door, and shook his head. What if she\'d came earlier and heard all the talk about Digimon? Joe wasn\'t usually that careless. "So, Jade. How long are you back in town for this time?"

"Sorry to interrupt..." Cody interrupted. "But, I need to get home.."

"See you again, Cody." Jade bade the young one, as he shuffled away. She wanted to follow him to see this Digmon thing, but she could probably get Davis to take her with a little...Convincing. She\'d just have to hang around long enough for everyone to leave....

AN: Reviews would be nice...I know the sudden interjection of an OC into this without establishing plot and reason is a little ludacris, but I really had no reason to aside plot building. So I decided to skip that for interest\'s reasons. Your opinion on this would help me lots. I might stop writing this is I don\'t get any reviews!
