The Man
" I want to tell you something ", the man said in a flat voice.
Instantly her muscles tightened and her body stiffened because she knew without a doubt what he was going to say. She knew the words. He was a typcial man of easy prediction so only advoidance would be able to save her from the pain he was going to inflict. But he did something she hadan't expected.
Fingers folded around a steamy cup of freshly brewed coffee Carly shifted her gaze off the rippling black waves to his pale ice blue eyes that for the first time didn't appear to have shine in them and was replaced by a deep dullness. She also hadn't noticed the dark circles clinging under his eyes reflecting a lack of sleep or the crinkles at the corner of his eyes that were gradually deepening with age. He was sitting across the table from her in his black suite and black polished shoes. Silence rose in tidal waves stretching seconds to minutes. She bit her lower lip wanting to speak to say something but nothing came out. The silence was painful enough and if he spoke she wasn't sure if she would be able to answer it. She held her breath waiting to hear what he had to say. But as she waited he didn't utter another word. And reading the words on his eyes she knew what he said.
Carly closed her eyes remembering the past the vivid memories of her old friends and family members. Murdered. And at last, she broke the awkward silence in a steady, cool voice." Get the hell out of my house ".
The man leaned back in his chair before rising to his feet. She followed after.
" No need to walk me out ". Than, he smiled an ordainary smile. No warmth. No sincerity. Just a smile that sent a violent chill up her spine and brought goosebumps on her flesh.
" Hear me out woman. Sooner or later I will find the truth about your past. You can never keep the truth buried alive for long. Someday it will find you and then what? you run and hide? Wheather or not you fight the past it is up to you Carly, if you lay it to rest ". He left the kitchen.
She stared after him dark eyes wide in disblief. This was the first time they had met. How'd he know her name?
