Sailor Mars strode proudly into the court of Queen Beryl. Jaedite had given her the run down on the situation; the Dark Kingdom had just reformed after a thousand years of being held in limbo through the power of the ginzuishou, a powerful crystal once in the hands of Queen Serenity, ruler of Silver Millennium. Now that the Moon Kingdom was gone dominance of Earth should be assured, but a new enemy had appeared.

As she walked past creatures of all shapes and sizes, the dark haired girl overheard insults and abuses hurled at her from every direction. Evidently the two Sailor Senshi had been quite a thorn in their side. The crimson clad warrior smirked humorlessly, she would prove herself in the eyes of Jaedite and her new Queen and then none would dare mock her.

She broke the circle of monsters and reached the court of Beryl. She was a large, fearsome woman with flowing red hair sitting behind a dark crystal ball. Flanked by four men, Jaedite and three others she had yet to meet, the Queen studied her intently. Rei felt no fear, the strength she had acquired when Jaedite imbued her with dark power had eliminated any anxiety she might have experienced.

Kneeling in front of Beryl, Mars announced to the assembled crowd, “My Queen, I am Sailor Mars. I pledge my loyalty to you and the Dark Kingdom in our struggle to defeat Sailor Moon and conquer the Earth.”

A moment of silence hung in the air before the seated woman responded, “In the name of our glorious ruler, Queen Metallia, I accept your allegiance.” Beryl smiled wickedly. Jaedite had succeeded for once and now the Dark Kingdom had a powerful new ally.

“Sailor Mars,” She continued, “I assign you to the command of my general Jaedite. You will aid him in his fight against Sailor Moon. I expect word of your success soon. Do not disappoint me.” The Queen said with an edge, she had not yet proven herself of any worth to the Dark Kingdom.

“I will defeat your enemies, my Queen.” Mars bowed low, stood and turned away. The second time she walked through the crowd, none of the creatures said a word. Good. They were already learning their place.

Rei Hino stood in the cold night air in the desolate airport. Jaedite had issued a challenge to the two Sailor Senshi the night before; they would meet him and fight to the finish. No doubt they would show up, emboldened by their victories against him, but they would not be counting on the appearance of Sailor Mars.

They had secured the airport and cleared it of the meddling humans that had shown up to watch the spectacle. Jaedite’s message had been none too subtle, but as the identities of the warriors remained a mystery, there were few options. If they interfered they would have to be eliminated and dead humans provided no energy to the Dark Kingdom. Tonight the only casualties would be the Sailor Senshi. Overlooking the tarmac from the control tower, Sailor Mars settled in to watch the show.

There they were; two school girls and a small black cat were being chased by a number of police men. After a hundred yards or so the blue haired one turned, thrust her hand into the air and sapphire light flashed around her. Mars threw a hand across her face to shield her eyes but when she looked back, the school uniform had been replaced by a blue fuku similar to Mars’s own. A moment later the blonde followed her lead and standing on the ground below was the two enemies Jaedite had lured to their doom.

Mercury shouted something and suddenly a wall of mist engulfed the men chasing them. When it cleared they were nothing but a puddle of mud. Mars shifted her weight, bored at only being able to watch. Those mud creatures were nothing but a distraction anyway. Now the show would really begin. She saw Jaedite make his appearance before them. He announced himself and the two replied to him. From her position, Mars couldn’t hear what was going on. She didn’t really need to though; her assigned role was only to make an entrance if Jaedite got in trouble.

Just then the jetliners parked on the runway began to move, driving right for the Sailor Senshi. In a panic the girls ran in the opposite direction, coming closer to Mars’s position. She stepped into the shadows and continued her observation. They were almost out of runway now. Would it really be this easy? Jaedite would simply crush them under the massive planes or cast them into the Pacific Ocean?

No, suddenly the massive 747 came to a halt, a single rose obstructing its path. Mars had been warned about this Tuxedo Mask; he always made an appearance at the wrong time and allowed the Sailor Senshi to turn the tide of battle. Mars hung back for now, Jaedite might still be able to manage this. She could see the two of them face off but they were still too far for her to hear. They swirled in the air and then at once Jaedite barreled into him and the two sunk below the waves. Sailor Mars almost made a sound in surprise as she stared anxiously at the surf. Just then Jaedite reemerged, laughing in triumph. She exhaled in relief as the other two cried out in shock. Now there would be no one to save them. Mars smirked in satisfaction. Had the Sailor Senshi gotten to her first she would have fought against the Dark Kingdom and been in the same hopeless situation now.

Jaedite leapt into the air and again the planes began to roll toward them. Now they finally began to show some skill; Mercury again created a cloud of fog and, from her vantage point, Mars could see the jets lose their targets. Instead they were coming after Jaedite! This wasn’t good, the dark haired senshi jumped down off the control tower and landed gracefully on her heels. She ran into the cloud of mist just in time to hear, “Moon Tiara Action!” followed by Jaedite screaming in rage.

“This is it, Jaedite, we’ll stop your evil plans here and now!” said the blue haired warrior as the senshi of fire approached.

Not quite. “Fire Soul!” Mars threw her hands together and tongues of flame shot forth, slamming into Mercury’s back. She shrieked in astonishment as she slammed to the ground in front of Jaedite.

“Sailor Mercury!” the blonde cried as she raced toward her friend.

Jaedite was quicker, he jumped on the scorched girl and yelled to his cohort, “Mars, meet me back in the Dark Kingdom!” and with that the blonde general disappeared along with the second Sailor Senshi.

“No!” Screamed Sailor Moon and so too did the cat. That was a bit odd, but Mars had seen plenty of weird things in the last day.

“Who are you?” her opponent demanded tearfully.

“I’m Sailor Mars, Champion of the Dark Kingdom, and you Sailor Moon, are about to die!” Mars blazed toward her, ready to end this with one blow. She dodged quickly but clumsily and the Soldier of Fire gave her no chance to recover, swinging her leg at the enemy’s midsection.

“If you’re a Sailor Senshi, you should be on our side! Why are you fighting with Jaedite?” Sailor Moon cried out in alarm and betrayal.

“Fight with pathetic weaklings like you? No thanks! Fire Soul!” Again the girl dodged but this time she wasn’t able to keep her footing. Swatting away the black cat as it tried to distract her, Mars prepared for the coup de grace.
Just then a stinging blow hit her left arm. Mars screamed in agony as she tore at the object that had buried itself in her limb, a single red rose.

“Tuxedo Mask! They took Sailor Mercury!” The girl shouted as she took off in his direction.

“Shit, there’s too many of them now.” Sailor Mars felt no need to stay any longer, they had captured one of them and Beryl would surely see this as a victory.

“Goodbye Sailor Moon, we’ll be back for you soon!” She laughed loudly as she opened a portal to safety. A second longer and she had disappeared from the world.
