Chapter One
Could a body close the mind out?
Stitch a seam across the eye
If you can be good, you’ll live forever
If you’re bad, you’ll die when you die
--Roisin Murphy
L was in a small state of shock. Well, actually, he was in a whole lot of shock. He was on the roof, naked, and in the arms of an even more naked Light. The two of them had torn each other’s clothes off with such a vicious passion, going at each other like two snarling lions. Well, that was a tiny little white lie actually. He had been scared and nervous as hell.
A small beam of sunlight filtered down through the passing clouds and he turned to look at Light Yagami. The bigger man had been so gentle and careful with him. Light had treated him like he was a delicate piece of fine china. He watched how the droplets of water glittered like diamonds on Light’s naked golden flesh. He didn’t even snore in his sleep.
He remembered how Light had planted feather soft kisses all across his scarred white flesh. The cold rain had done nothing to hinder the fiery blaze that had ignited his bones with an ivory fire. In fact, he was surprised he hadn’t ended up a pile of ash under Light’s hard body. The taller man had been a fiery furnace.
He began to trace Light’s smooth jaw line with a pale finger. He simply loved the feel of his skin. It was like honey in the sunshine.
He looked up at the passing clouds and saw how beautiful it all was. There was a multitude of rosy golden beams dancing down through pockets in the clouds. It was so pretty. The color reminded him of cotton candy. Oh, damn! Now he really wanted some. His mouth began to water for the pretty pink yummy goodness. Where was a carnival when you needed one? Oh, that could be a fun date.
He turned his head, looking into Light’s sleeping face. He looked so innocent and pure like this. What was he going to do when he opened those piercing, ever calculative eyes? Would their making love change anything? Would it help him reach Light’s darkened soul? Could he still save him? Oh, he hoped so.
He had seen the radiant goodness in Light. It had shimmered all around him with golden brilliance during that rain storm. The lightning had been witness and the thunder had applauded. Oh, he was such a loon.
Light suddenly yawned in his sleep, stretching like a contented kitten. It caused L’s heart to jump into his throat. He was so damn adorable! But, he knew that even adorable kittens had killer claws. A kitten could fool you with its cute little yarn playing ways, and when you least expected, it could sink its claws into your jugular with a snarling hiss.
He cocked his head to the side, imagining Light wrapping him up with yellow yarn. The teen was giggling like a possessed little college boy.
“You’re my ball of yarn, L,” Light snickered, touching his nose to his as he wrapped it all around him. “And I’m going to play with you whenever I want.”
He was suddenly brought back into the realm of reality by someone clearing their throat. He gulped as he looked into Light’s spooky filled eyes. Out of every person he had ever encountered, Light’s eyes were the scariest. He had a confused yet serious expression on his handsome face.
“What are you thinking about?” Light asked, scooting closer to him. “You look like you’ve been denied candy or something even more horrible than that.”
L couldn’t speak. The young man was cuddling him. Oh, he wished Light could purr. He had always wanted a kitty.
“Nothing,” L lied with trained ease. “I was just watching you sleep.”
Light chuckled, nuzzling his wet hair with a smooth cheek. “Did you watch me sleep when we were handcuffed together, too?”
L nodded his head. “Yes, I did.”
Light planted a kiss on top of his head. He was so gentle with him. Why was he being so gentle? L’s heart was racing like a wild horse. Where were the claws?
“Why are you trembling?” Light asked in genuine concern. “Are you cold?”
L shook his head, holding onto him like he was a broken life preserver. “I’m…afraid, Light.”
Light blinked. “You just called me by my name.”
L lowered his head. Was he blushing?
“Why are you afraid?”
L was frozen. What was he doing? He couldn’t tell him. How had he allowed himself to lose control like this? It wasn’t like him to ever lose control. Was he really beginning to lose his mind? He needed something deep fried and smothered in chocolate, right now!
“I…I love you, Light…”
Something suddenly happened. It was too damn quiet. Where was all the noise? Where had it gone? Why was it so hauntingly silent? Why was everything frozen in time? You could have heard a pin drop from twenty kilometers away. It was just that silent. Did all the gods push the mute button at the same exact time just so they could hear only this? The world’s greatest detective was confessing his love to a supernatural killer. He suddenly felt really naked. He felt like even his skin was suddenly being stripped away from his as well, revealing all the feelings underneath. He felt so pink in the face.
“You…you love me?” Light asked. His voice stuttered like he was in some serious shock.
L couldn’t believe he had actually told him that out loud. He had screamed it so many times at him in his head. But, that had just been for play-play. This here was for real-real. It was all out in the open now. The words had been spoken. There no talking them back now.
“Yes,” he whispered, wanting to get up and run away with his clothes, leaving a trail for Light to follow if he chose. “You’re the only person I’ve ever felt anything towards…like this.”
He wanted to die for saying something so damn cheesy. Just kill me, Light. I’d rather die than to be rejected. Don’t even say anything, just kill me. I don’t want to hear you turn my love away and call this a simple fuck. I’ll even let you stick a knife in my back and twist to your little black hearts content if you just don’t say anything that could hurt me.
He suddenly imagined Light jumping up in all his naked golden glory and glaring down at him with molten ruby red eyes.
“Ha!” The figment of Light howled with wicked demonic laughter. “You love me! Oh, that’s funny! The fool loves me!”
Light put his heel to his throat, stepping down. “Now die knowing that I reject you and all that you are!”
He cringed, squeezing his eyes shut, only to suddenly open them in shock. He lifted his eyes up, seeing that Light looked just as frightened as him. “What did you say?”
Light looked like his head was in two different places. What in the world was going on in there? Please don’t spin your head off, Light. I wouldn’t know what to tell your father.
He gently caressed a smooth golden cheek, smiling softly. “What?”
Light’s cheeks were burning crimson amber. “I…I love you…too.”
L’s owlish eyes widened and he pounced on him, looking down into startled eyes. “Do you really?”
Light nodded, gripping his narrow waist with larger hands. “You’re heavy.”
“What?” L asked, gripping his shoulders. “What do you mean?”
“All those sweets you eat,” Light panted. “You’ve really gained.”
L narrowed his eyes to slits. “You take that back right now, Light Yagami…or I’ll cuff you again.”
L suddenly froze and then snickered. Why hadn’t he seen it before? He really could be such an oblivious nutcase.
“What?” Light growled, rolling over so that he was on top.
“Your last name,” L chuckled loudly. “I’m-a-gay is Yagami spelled backwards.”
Light just looked down at him with those calculative eyes of his. Was the guy going to strangle him for being so random?
“Huh,” Light said, lowering his head, tracing his tongue across his collarbone, and then smiled at him. “Well, how about that.”
“You didn’t know?” L asked in shock.
Light shook his head. “I pretended not to.”
“Now this explains why you’re so popular with the lady-folks,” L mused, fighting not to moan. “They must really love shopping with you.”
He actually thought he heard Light roll his gorgeous eyes. “Are you using stereotypes now, L?”
“Of course,” he laughed, arching his smooth white neck. “Fag-hags can smell a queer from a mile away.”
Light snorted. “It must be my cologne.”
L nodded. “When I first smelled you, I wanted to lick every inch of your naked body.”
“Are you for real?” Light asked. His eyes were filled with molten heat.
“Indeed,” L smiled.
“Hmm,” Light said, looking around. “How about later you start with my feet and work your way up?”
L felt like he was being led around in circles. He did feel a little bit dizzy. Was that a bad thing? He nodded his head with horny enthusiasm.
“We really should get dressed now,” Light said, lifting himself off the slightly smaller man. “Everyone is probably wondering where we’ve gotten off to.”
L sat up with a happy grin on his face. How long would this new glow within him last? Was forever asking too much?
“Can we keep this between us a secret?” Light asked, slipping his wet jeans on. “I don’t want my dad to shoot you between the eyes.”
L cocked his head to the side. That would be bad. Being shot in the face would just be embarrassing. “I love secrets.”
“Come on,” Light said, helping him up with ease. “We should hurry.”
L quickly got dressed in his wet clothing and looked around for his shirt. Where the hell was it? Oh, yeah! He had left it on the steps inside. He just hoped it was still there. Watari was always in a cleaning mood. “Um, what do we tell Misa?”
“The truth,” Light said. His voice didn’t match his words.
“But,” L said, looking away. “She’s the jealous type. Won’t she kill me?”
Light spun around on him. “Are you still going on about that nonsense?”
L’s owlish eyes flashed and he suddenly put a hand to his heart, falling to his knees. He gasped for breath, falling over onto his side.
“L!” Light cried, going down beside him. “What’s wrong? Ryuzaki!”
L put fear into his eyes and a look of heartbreaking betrayal.
“No!” Light screamed, pulling him into his arms. “Stop it, Rem! I didn’t give you permission yet!”
L felt his heart actually twist in his chest for real. He had been right all along. Light really was the Kira.
100 percent.
He looked up into Light’s frightened face and put both his white hands to his tear stained cheeks. Light really did love him. What was he going to do now? His semi-random plan had worked. He smiled in heartbreaking victory as he raised his head up so that his lips were just inches from Light’s trembling pink petals.
“Gotcha.”
