Haseo’s narrowed crimson eyes bore into Sora’s golden ones. He was so tired of this--being here, putting up with him--everything. Hell, he didn’t even know how much time had passed between now and the last--a few hours, days? He’d lost all sense of time in this door-less place. He’d never admit it, but he was lonely. He missed his companion’s company. Annoying as they had been at times, he’d much rather put up with them instead of Sora.
He missed Silabus’ cheerful smile and the way he always had something nice to say--even when he wasn’t feeling that great. Gaspard’s energetic self, how excited he got when he’d take him with him on quests and to level up--even if he wasn’t the best player, or anything. Even Kuhn’s optimistic, yet horribly flirtatious self seemed more preferable. If he was honest with himself, and most of the times he never was, he’d go so far as to wish that Atoli were here. But he was stubborn, and didn’t admit it.
Because the truth was, if he admitted it--he was afraid he’d break. He hated the horrible, empty feeling he got whenever he thought about it. He hated to feel this weak; to feel as if he needed someone. He’d tried so hard not to let anyone in after the Brigade fell apart and Shino was PK’d, but the more time he’d spent being with the others--the more he began to let go. Now, he was without them and the ache he felt was nearly unbearable. He was restless, he kept shifting every so often in an attempt to quell the tension in his body--the muscles that ached to stretch and move, used to swinging a broadsword, or a scythe, or dual swords and blocking. His legs had long since fell asleep from where he’d crouched, leaning against the wall. He’d had to fight them to keep them from moving, too.
He sighed quietly, finally breaking his stare to look off towards the repeating pattern of the wall beside him, a frown playing at his lips as his fingers tapped against his armor with no rhythm to it. It was a hard thing to swallow, this silence, this separation. Then again, he knew his other was a cruel bastard when he wanted to be so he probably made it like this on purpose. If given the choice of putting up with Saku or this? He’d choose Saku any day. He could put up with her insane chattering--though it annoyed him, yes, he could ignore her a lot better than he could Sora. Sora’s voice grated on his nerves far too deep than hers ever could.
Hell, hearing her rant about Endrance would be a welcome relief. Endrance… His lips curled, brows furrowing as his mind ran the name over and over again, only to be accompanied by the accursed rose petals and the flashes of purple that followed the thought. To be honest, he never really knew what to make of the other. Sure they had this creepy stalkerish tendency to follow him around like a lost puppy, but that didn’t really bother him. Being alone for a long time causes such things and from what little he knew about the older PC, they’d been alone for quite some time.
Their dedication to him, however, could never be questioned. He would go so far as to think that if he ever asked the other to quit, they just might. Nevertheless, thinking of this only made the hollowness itch under his skin in annoyance. He sighed as he hung his head, burying his face into his knees as he hugged them to his chest.
The green haired ninja watched the way the other’s eyes had flickered as they thought; he saw the hollowness in them, the loneliness. He knew the other was breaking down. This was part of what he wanted--He wanted Haseo to break; because then, he’d be there. He’d be there to pick up Haseo’s fragments and put them together, reshape them into what he wanted.
Because then, the only one the silver haired PC would have is him. That was exactly what Sora wanted. The other would only have him and Sora would have The World, no one could stand up to him with Haseo at his side, to his Key of Twilight.
This continued for several long, silent days.
Finally, finally, Haseo reached his breaking point. He crawled over to Sora, his limbs were shaking and not wanting to let him move easily, and grabbed his wrist, looking up at him with frenzied, but empty eyes.
“Please,” He begged, his voice was just as broken sounding as he looked.
“Please let me go. I can’t take this anymore, I miss everyone, I need to go back. I want--” He broke off, shaking his head as if trying to get a grip on his mental psyche.
Sora looked down at him. Slowly, he knelt down until he was face to face with him. He shook his head, placing a finger under Haseo’s chin to tilt it up so he was looking at him.
“No,” He answered softly.
“I’m not letting you go.”
“Why??” Was the near-hysterical demand.
“Because…” Sora answered slowly, leaning in until he was inches away from Haseo, staring down into his crimson eyes.
“Because…?” Haseo breathed, eyes widened with a deer-in-headlight look to them.
“I need you here with me.”
“Wh-what?” Haseo asked, blinking wildly.
“You’re me, remember? Didn’t you, or was it Ryou, who said that you could accept the reality of Skeith? Of me? You can’t leave…”
Haseo started shaking again, and, before Sora could hardly react, Haseo began to glow and with a force of strength, completely shoved Sora across the room to hit the wall. With a loud wail, Skeith materialized.
Sora’s eyes widened. Shit. He hadn’t actually taken into consideration that Haseo might call Skeith.
“If I have to data drain every last piece of this place to get out, so help me…!” Haseo screamed, and Skeith began to glow, signifying it was charging up for its Data Drain.
“You never had to go that far,” Sora said quietly, attempting to rationalize with his other.
“I asked, and you said no. So I’m forcing my way out!” Haseo replied angrily.
Deciding to try a different tactic, Sora sprang from the wall and tackled Haseo to the ground, the other’s eyes widening at what happened. Skeith stopped, going motionless since it was unsure of what to do now.
“Get off!” Haseo screamed, struggling with renewed force that surprised Sora.
“You don’t get it, do you?!” Sora yelled back, clamping his hands tightly over Haseo’s wrists, holding him down the best that he could.
“Get what?” Haseo hissed.
“If you try to destroy me, or this place, you’ll destroy part of yourself!” Sora said calmly.
The reality seemed to hit Haseo a few moments later, the frenzy in his eyes left. “At this moment, I don’t care.” He replied.
“Don’t you?”
“…”
“I know you’re not stupid. Think about it. How else could I have made this place if I were not you? How could I have twisted the dimensions to my own will, bend the very fabric of the game’s parameters? I used part of “me”, and since you are “me”, this is “us”, if you destroy it, then you’re destroying that part of yourself, and part of me.”
“…I…” Haseo shook his head as he tried to rationalize what the other said. After a long bout of silence between the two, Skeith faded away from sight and Sora sighed an inward breath of relief. Sora let go of Haseo and slowly backed off and allowed the other space.
“…If you’re part of “me”, now… And you know what’s happened, then… Why are you still “you”?”
“Because we never merged.” Sora replied airily, as if the moment prior had never happened.
“But--“
“You merely synchronized with Skeith, thus awakening your memories of me, and the R:1. We’ve not merged. Syncing with Skeith was only a portion of the power you have. Think of how powerful you’d be if you and I became one.”
“…Is that even possible?” Haseo finally asked after taking another long silence, looking thoughtful.
Sora’s grin widened. He was close. So very close to having what he wanted. He shrugged and twirled his bang again. “The datascape is your mind, Ha-se-o~. You could bend anything to your will here, and anywhere, basically. You’re the Key of Twi-li-ght, remember?”
Haseo looked down at the ground, thinking for a long while. “…I… I don’t know.”
Sora sighed and shrugged again. “Your choice, but…” He slithered up close to Haseo from where he was leaning against the wall, placing one hand against it as he leaned in again, whispering into his ear: “Think of what we could do together, you and I… Imagine everything that you’d only dare to dream.”
Haseo’s eyes widened, and suddenly his face heated red from the sudden proximity the other was standing at, the cloudy look in his others eyes and the sudden rush that spiked through his digital-veins, accompanied by heat. He swallowed heavily and turned his head away, trying to look unaffected. “Hmph.”
“Very well, but just think about it.” Sora replied, pushing off of the wall and spun on his heel and bounce-stepped away towards the far side. He conjured a couch from no where and flopped back on it with a grin, stretching out. “Ahh~ That’s more like it, uyryuu~”
Haseo stared for a long time, before looking down to his own hands. Was it so true? That he could possibly wield such power? More power than he already did? The thought boggled him, it seemed impossible, and yet… Hesitantly, he closed his eyes and began to concentrate. If this whole place was, as Sora said, of “Them”, then…
With concentrated effort, and some help from Skeith, the dimension around him shifted and when he opened his eyes, he was laying back on a bed.
Sora blinked over at him before his eyes lit up and he clapped. “Aha! See, I knew you could do it, hmm~!” He hummed. Haseo rolled over, grabbing the pillow that was there and promptly buried his head under it.
This only made the Ninja laugh, which only made Haseo wish he could twist Sora’s data to turn off his speech AI. He supposed his next project would be earplugs. That is, until he was so rudely disturbed by Sora pouncing on him.
“Hey--” Haseo cried.
“Mmhmn, you’re comfy~” Sora cooed, grinning widely as he grabbed the pillow and pulled it off of the others head.
“Get off!” The Reaper growled, trying to roll so the other would fall off of his back.
“Nope~ You’re gonna stay like that, Ha-se-o~” The PKer replied.
The silver haired PC found a heavy blush creeping its way onto his face the more the situation and position he found himself in sank in.
“…Get off, please.” He said meekly.
“Hmm,” Sora replied, twisting one of his bangs. “Since you said it so nicely… I will on one condition.”
“Which is…?” Haseo asked.
“You have to share the bed!”
Again, the flush brightened on his face. The bed was only a twin, and if they were both on it… Oh, god… He wanted to protest, to tell the other to go to hell; to scream obscenities, anything, but he knew by now that such would get him nowhere. With a weak sigh, he gave in. “Okay.”
Sora only grinned. “Deal~” With that, he hopped off of Haseo’s back. The silver haired Reaper rolled onto his side and scooted close to the edge, allowing the green haired male to jump in on it as well. He flinched at such closeness, staring into his others eyes. They were dancing with amusement and something else he could not describe. He pointedly tried to ignore it by closing his eyes.
Sora watched him, taking in every detail of the others face--he could tell by his body language alone he was uncomfortable with how close they were together, he’d change that soon enough, but for now, this was a big enough accomplishment. After a while, his body began to relax and his breathing evened to a more steady, natural pace, and he watched as his others face turned towards the pillow, his bangs falling into his face.
His fingers twitched, and after a moment, his hand rose and his fingers slowly pushed Haseo’s bangs back away from his face, tracing his fingers through his hair. His desire just to touch and know his other burned him like a flame. Haseo shivered and his eyelids fluttered. When his fingers touched his cheek and traced the contours down to his chin and his thumb swept over his cheek, did they finally open. His crimson eyes were glossy, filled with question and insecurity. “What are you…doing?”
“Is it so wrong that I find you fascinating?” Sora replied in a quiet voice, not stilling his movements. He wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity when he saw one. Haseo’s eyes glossed over for a long moment as he thought and Sora continued his ministrations, since the other didn’t tell him to stop, he wasn’t going to. His fingertips traced over the tribal tattoo on his others cheek, before down the slant of his jaw, and gently caressed over the side of bhis neck.
Haseo shivered, a quiet sound escaping him that surprised even him. He blinked several times to make sure it was him that made the sound before his cheeks took on a faint tinge. Sora would have chuckled, but he knew already that the other would react negatively, even if he wasn’t laughing directly at him per se.
“…Why?” Haseo finally asked, voice barely above a whisper.
“Why what?” Sora replied, brow raising.
“…Why does it feel…nice? I don’t like you, so why shouldn’t I not like what you’re doing to me?” Haseo asked, brows furrowed in an attempt to find reason.
Sora sighed, blowing a bang away from his face before slowly halting his fingers, they stopped just below the Rogue’s collarbone. “Because, whether or not you like me, doesn’t matter. Your body, maybe even you, yourself craves affection.” He answered seriously. “So why,” He continued, staring seriously into Haseo’s crimson eyes. “should it make any difference if it’s me, or someone else? Unless you have someone on your heart?” He asked, but he couldn’t stop the vague underlying tinge of jealousy, the hint that he had never taken into account that maybe, perhaps, Haseo did have someone in his heart, and that reason entirely, bothered him more than he thought it would.
Haseo flinched for a long moment, before looking away. “…No, I guess not. They may return my affection, but I… I can’t be what they think they see in me.” He answered in a soft voice, before his bangs shadowed over his eyes once again as he went silent. Sora made a sound, nodding almost absentmindedly before he slid off of the bed and walked away towards the far side of the room, angry at himself for overlooking such a near critical detail. He had never considered, or even thought… But that was just it, wasn’t it? He had never really taken into consideration anyone’s feelings but his own. But if his own feelings were Haseo’s… Augh, the implications annoyed him and once again he berated himself.
Haseo stared at the far-side wall past Sora, and neither of them noticed the liquid that spilt from the corner of the Rogue’s eye, for they were too drawn inward into their own thoughts. Two different PC’s, yet their soul was torn in half from it, and neither were sure how to go about fixing it--or if they should even try.
When Sora finally did take notice, Haseo had slipped away into himself in a slumber, the only testament to his tears was the wet patch on the others pillow…
