Chapter 2: Whisper
Characters: Haruka and Ami
Warnings: Sad, again
AN: Just…sad. Seriously. And I forgot how bad I used to write. Am I so GLAD that I started to rewrite this story. Remember, reviews are loved dearly. *nods*
When Haruka first received the call from her kitten’s parents, she could feel her world shatter around her with just the few words exchanged. After a few moments of gathering herself, they asked if she could tell the other girls and come over to their home to receive some letters that Usagi had left them. She agreed easily before disconnecting and moving to the living room where the others sat, doing their own things.
“Guys, I have some bad news,” she choked from the door way of the living room. The other three turned towards her, Michiru placing her pencil and pad down upon the coffee table as Hotaru turned her CD player off and Setsuna put her book down on her lap.
“What is it, Harkua?” the guardian of time asked her after a few moments.
“Usagi killed herself,” Haruka breathed out slowly. The book that once sat in the green haired womans lap fell from her fingers, her face emotionless. Michiru turned back around, picked up her pencil and pad before walking out of the room, more then likely heading for her studio to lock her self inside. Hotarus CD player dropped unnoticed as she stood up and headed out of the living room, going for the kitchen. “We’ve been asked to go to their home to receive letters that were left for us,” Haruka said loud enough for the others to hear before she too left the living room.
Walking up the stairs, Haruka headed for the room that was Usagis when she had come over. Closing the door behind her, she looked around the room, spying the stuffed floppy rabbit that she had given to Usagi for her birthday. Walking over to the bed, she picked up the rabbit and sat down on the bed, flopping over onto her side. Drawing her knees up to her chest, a single shudder racked her body as she started to cry silently, wondering why she was left behind.
***********Ami************
The phone call that destroyed her world came on a sunny day while she was curled up on the couch, watching a movie that she had always enjoyed. Ami would associate the movie with that phone call.
It was just getting to what she considered the good part before the piercing ringing interrupted the silence. Pausing the movie, she tried to decide if she should answer the phone or let the machine pick it up for her. She finally decided that she should answer it, some instinct telling her to answer it.
“Moshi, moshi, Mizuno residence,” she greeted once she picked the phone up.
“Hello, may I speak with Mizuno, Ami?” a voice asked, sounding vaguely familiar to her.
“That would be me. Who am I speaking to?” she replied, looking out the window, seeing how the sun played over the flowers in her little window box.
“This is Usagis’ father, Kenji. I’m afraid I have some bad news, Ami-chan,” he said, making her hand tighten around the phone and her other hand grip onto the phone cord.
“Yes? What is it, Kenji-san?” she asked, already dreading the news.
“Usagi has committed suicide and has left several letters for her friends. I need you to come over in an hour or so,” he said, sounding sad at having to deliver the news in such a way.
“Alright,” she breathed, dropping the phone onto the cradle before he could say good bye. Walking back to the couch, she sat down and restarted the movie, not truly seeing it. All she could see was Usagi and the last time Ami had seen her. She heard the harsh words, the look of unending sadness in blue eyes
Stopping the movie, she stood up and walked upstairs to her room. She looked around her blue and white room and can't help but remember when they had painted her room before they then decorated it. She could remember how after everything was done they had collapsed onto the floor and bed, laughing and playing even though they were tired.
Ami walked over to her icy blue bed, sitting down onto it and stroking the soft bedding. She looked over at the picture that sat upon her night table. It was a group picture with Usagi in the middle, everyone surrounding her.
That was how it always was. She drew people to her, like moths to a flame. She was the light of every ones life, making them smile and play. She had been the only person Ami was ever able to be truly close to. And now…now she was gone.
It hit Ami hard suddenly.
She was truly gone.
Never to be there, smiling, making her day seem brighter. She would never again be there to make a mess in the kitchen with Makoto or to stare at her while she tried to understand something. She would never be there to fight next to them ever again. Their light was gone, and so was the future they all looked forwards to.
Grabbing her pillow, the one that she had gotten from Usagi last Christmas, Ami started to cry silently, wondering how her life was going to be worth living without her light.
***********Haruka**********
After half an hour of silently crying, Haruka finall got up, and went intto what used to be Usagi's personal bathroom. Looking around the pink and white bathroom she noticed Usagis hair brush, the very brush she had gotten from Rei for Christmas. Golden strands of hair still sat amongst the bristles.
Nearly breaking down again, seeing those golden stands, Haruka went over to the sink and bent down to wash her face. Once she was done, she dried her face off and then made sure everything is as it was. Turning the light off and shutting the door as before, she moved back to the bed and arranged the pillow and rabbit the same way she had found it. Finishing with that, she shut the light off and closed the door as she left the room.
Walking down the stairs, Harkua ended up in the living room once more only to discover Setsuna still on the floor, staring at nothing. She sighed and walked away, heading for Michirus studio door and knocking on it.
"We're going to have to leave in a few moments, Michiru," she called in a voice roughened from crying. Hearing a soft ‘okay’, she walked towards the kitchen and peeked in to see Hotaru pulling cookies out of the oven. She smiled a small sad smile. "It's almost time to go, Firefly," she said to the youngest girl. Hotaru nodded her head and started to place the cookies into re-sealable containers. Smiling her sad little smile again, she moved back to the living room to go get Setsuna. Walking up to Setsuna, Haruka grabbed her arm and dragged her off the floor.
"We have to go," Haruka said simply. She nodded and stumbled out towards the door front door. As she and Haruka arrived at the door, they noticed that Hotaru and Michiru were standing there, Michiru, with red eyes from crying and paint on her cheek and little Hotaru with flour on her skirt, from where the apron didn't quite cover it. Haruka looked at them before grabbing the keys to her car. Walking into the garage, they got in, Haruka wincing when the CD started to play once the car was started. It had been the last one that Usagi had listened to, Evanescence’s CD ‘Fallen’. The song was just another reminder of what they had lost, ‘Whisper just playing, dark deep tones making Haruka remember the last conversation she had, had with Usagi.
************Flashback*******
'Whisper' played on the stereo as Usagi was sat next to Haruka, looking out the window trying to understand why what happened had happened.
"Haruka?" she asked softly.
"Yes, Kitten?" Haruka replied, wondering what the other blond was thinking.
"Why did they hurt me?" she asked. Haruka didn’t immediately answer her, instead sitting and thinking as she pressed the replay button.
"I don't know why, Kitten. I really don't know," is all Haruka could say. Usagi sang softly with a part of the song.
"I'm frightened by what I see. But somehow I know that there's much more to come. Immobilized by my fear and soon to be blinded by tears. I can stop the pain, if I will it all away. If I will it all away."
"Kitten, don't be so sad. Everything will turn out alright," Haruka assured her, smiling sadly. Usagi smiled just as sadly back to her as she pulled up to the younger girls home and dropped her off.
******end*********
‘And 2 days later she's dead. Her light put out forever,’ Harkua thought to herslf as she drove. Feeling a single tear slid down her cheek as she drive up to Usagis home once more, she knew that she would never see Usagi again, except at her funeral.
*****Ami*****
Ami dried her eyes and placed her pillow down upon her bed once more. Getting up and taking her sweat suit off, she walked over to her closet and removed a black, long sleeved shirt, a mid-thigh length skirt, a pair of tan hose and a simple pair of black slip on heels. She got dressed automatically, brushing out her short blue hair and made sure she had her car keys before leaving a note for her mother just in case the other woman got home early.
She slipped into her car and started it up easily, 'Whisper is playing on the radio, Ami with no interest in changing it as she headed to Usagis home. She thought about the smile that Usagi had smiled the last time they had seen her. It had been sad and full of hurt. Ami could still remember the words that had been said and how shocked they all had been.
Shaking her head as she pulled up to Usagi's home, she noticed that everyone else was already there. Ami walked up to the door and knocked, Ikkou quickly answering the door with a sad smile and invited her in. The older woman showed Ami into the living room and offered her some tea.
Taking a cup, Ami thanked her as she sat down next to Haruka, who was sitting next to Michiru, who had Hotaru on her other side. She noticed that Minako and Mamoru were sitting close to each other, Makoto sitting on Mamorus’ other side, while Setsuna sats on Minakos other side. Rei sat on in an arm chair near the others. Ami glared at them lightly as Kenji cleared his throat.
"Now as you all know, Usagi has committed suicide. She left us a letter and has told us why," he started, tapping the envelope sitting next to him on a side table. "She has also told us all about the fact that you are the Sailor Scouts and her protectors. She has told us how some o you betrayed her and how some of you stayed true to her. Which I’m thankful you have done. She also has also left us letters to give to you all," he finished pulling out more envelopes. Handing each person an envelope, Ami got hers and sat back to continue to listen.
"Now, those who stayed true to my daughter are welcome here. Those who did not stay true to ehr, are not welcomed here," Ikkou said, her voice going cold at the end. Ami smiled slightly at that. Getting up with the others, she paused to give Ikkou and Kenji a hug. Haruka, Hotaru and Michiru follow her example as she walked out of their home, promising the that she would visit soon over her shoulder Driving home, she found that her mother had not yet gotten home and opened her letter.
****Haruka****
After telling Ikkou and Kenji that they would soon visit, Harkua drove the four of them to their own home, not speaking with the others. She stayed in the garage and locked the door leading to the main house behind the others. Opening the garage door for ventilation as Setsuna headed for her room, Michiru to her studio, and Hotaru to the kitchen, Haruka pulled open her letter and settled onto a stool to read.

Dear Ami,
I know that right now you are more then likely numb emotionally. And if you haven't already done so, you will clean your home, before studying. I also know you are in a lot of pain and trying to ignore it.
I'm truly sorry that I have caused you that pain.
I hope that you will remember only the good times between us.
I also hope that you find true happiness.
Now, I need you to do something for me. I want you to rule Crystal Tokyo with a gentle yet firm hand. Let no one walk all over you, but heed the good advice. I know you’ll know what is good advice and what’s not.
When the time comes the crystal shall come to you. When that happens, don’t let Pluto, Chiba, or Jupiter influence you. Forgive Minako and Rei though. I don’t mean you have to like them, just forgive them since they will one day be good allies.
I hope that you find someone to love you and to rule by your side.
Remember, I love you with all my heart.
Your sister of the heart,
Usagi
P.S. Have yourself a good cry.
Ami put her letter down, once more grabbing her pillow and proceeded to break down finally.
Dearest Haruka,
I know right now you are reading this either in my bedroom there or in the garage while you try to figure out what you could have done to stop me, to save me from myself.
Don't beat yourself up, Ruka-chan. No one could have stopped me. I wouldn't have let them.
I want you to do something very important. Protect Ami-chan. She is to be the new Queen of Crystal Tokyo. When the time is right the crystal will go to her.
Guard her, protect her, and guide her like you would me. Trust me; she will be a good and king queen and a wonderful friend.
Now, I don't know want you drawing away from Ami, Rei, Michiru and Hotaru. Now, more than ever, they will need you, and you will need them just as much. You are all hurting, so support each other; stay with each other.
As for the others, Minako is just a bit misguided at the moment and will need support to get back on track. Pluto, Chiba and Jupiter on the other hand, have fun with.
I know I have hurt you and the others, and I'm truly sorry. But please remember me with love and kindness. I will always be with you.
Your Kitten (meow),
Usagi
Haruka folded the letter back up before placing it into its envelope again and then into a drawer full of other letters from Usagi. She rolled up her sleeves before poping the hood to her car and started to work on it. Tears rolled down her face as she sang the chorus to 'Whisper’, the music playing on her little stereo.
"Don’t turn away, don't give into the pain. Don't try to hide, though their screaming your name. Don't close your eyes, God knows what lies behind them. Don't turn out the light, never sleep, never die..."
