Chapter 2 - First steps of a new life
....
Silvia and Marius continued moving. They had run for almost a full hour before slowing down to a light jog and then slowing even further to a brisk walk.
The sun was almost touching the horizon now and the two decided to make camp for the night. They stopped near the lake on Route 1, which was perfect for swimming for the nearby Towns though the lake eventually lead out into the sea, but Marius decided against setting up on its shore. Two main reasons made him dismiss it as a viable camp site.
"First, is that it's the best source of fresh water. That is a good place if you want to capture pokemon, but not if you want to rest uninterrupted." Silvia could understand the logic of his words, but still hadn't given up yet. Marius continued and told her his main reason, "Second, if we have to start running again, we want the lake blocking our path."
This did make Silvia pause and think. "So the lake is out. Where should we set up then?"
"Now while I did say we don't want to be right next to the lake, being near is just as good as anywhere else, better sometimes. There are also a patch of trees over there, we can use them as shelter for tonight."
The trees turned out to have been inter grown and formed a half circle opening away from the direction the two had come.
"This will be perfect, it'll hide us completely if anyone looks this way. We don't have any wood with us and any we find won't light, plus a fire right now would give us away..." Marius thought out loud.
"I'm going to go and get some water from the lake. Can I have your bottle?" The blonde girl asked.
"Sure. I'll set up camp." he replied, though there wasn't much to really do. Taking the sleeping bag off his pack he laid it out and reached into his bag. Silvia walked up to his as he pulled out two food bars.
"These might not be much but they are filling." The young man said as he handed one to her.
"Bleh... they don't have much taste, but it's not like we have much right now..." she concluded.
"Yeah, we didn't really have time to get anything. But we can get some real supplies once we are in Accumula. I got a few more of those bars, if we really need them..."
"I just noticed... but there's only one sleeping bag!" the girl blushed slightly.
"Yeah... that's why your going to be sleeping in it tonight."
"BUT..." Silvia tried to protest.
"No. You are taking the sleeping bag. I'm use to camping out, you're not."
She was going to argue some more, but a noise from off in the distance caught our attention. A mob of brown furred creatures caught our attention and we headed over to see what was happening.
As we approached, we could make out what was happening. Twenty or so small foot tall rodent-like pokemon circled a different one, each of the mob had all brown fur but with a tan stomach and face, long strait tails with a scruffy white tip twitched behind each. The one in the center was a tan colored dog like pokemon no bigger than its enemies; an abundance of light brown fur covered it's face but was softened with a pair of large black eyes and a red nose. The dog pokemon held a small sky-blue berry in it's mouth as it tried to look threatening, but was having a hard time as it knew it was clearly outnumbered.
Silvia and I looked at each other and gave a quick nod before reaching for our pokeballs and sending forth our starters.
The red energy from Silvia's pokeball formed into a reptilian like grass pokemon standing at two feet. Most of the body was green in coloration though with a cream underside. A yellow stripe traveled down the length of its back and a tail with three leafed prongs, there were also yellow markings around its large brown eyes. Two thin curved yellow leafs protruded from the shoulders and bent backwards like wings. In spite of being very snake like, fully formed arms and legs extended from the body, matching the same green pattern as the rest of it.
"Snivy!" Silvia's pokemon cried out, getting into a ready stance.
Another small pokemon materialized from the red energy, though this one was as tall as the dog pokemon, Lillipup. Most of its body was white, with the exception of a green helmet like cap and two flat horns, one in the front and the other in the back, though the horns were blue instead of the typical red, soft melancholy reddish brown eyes poked out from under the 'helmet'. Overall the pokemon looked like a small child trying to wear a dress much too large for it as it flowed passed the base of its feet.
"Ralts?" it spoke, somewhat off put by all the anger it felt radiating from the Patrats. As its gaze fell upon the the surrounded Lillipup, it began project its own feelings of bravery and confidence.
"I've never seen this pokemon before... I thought the Professor had gotten me a Patrat, or a Lillipup..." I said what my mind was thinking, quickly reaching for the pokedex. Sure, everyone around Nuvema and Accuumula knew about these two field pokemon. Heck, a few even resided in town, but the white and green one was a complete mystery to me.
"Ralts, the Feeling Pokémon. It hardly appears before people but it is attracted to positive emotions. If its horns capture the warm feelings of people or Pokémon, its body warms up slightly." The pokedex informed those around it. The picture then changed to show the moves Ralts currently knew.
Most of the Patrats turned to face the new opponents, but some stayed to contain the Lillipup. Not giving the wild pokemon a chance, Snivy and Ralts let out a synchronized Growl.
Many of the wild pokemon slowed their advance as they began to worry, but continued as they figured they had the advantage in numbers.
"Ralts, use Confusion on as many as you can!" I called out.
"Snivy... um Tackle the ones that Ralts' misses." Silvia decided for her pokemon.
Despite the large number of opponents, Patrats themselves were each weak. It took no time at all for most of them to be defeated. As their numbers dwindled the Patrats decided to run instead of continue the fight.
When the last of the chipmunk like pokemon ran away, Silvia hurried over to look at the worn out Lillipup. Despite looking very tired and exhausted, it continued to stand up while growling and protecting the small berry between it's feet.
"We aren't going to hurt you." Silvia spoke gently at the pokemon. "We only want to try and help you."
"Ralts, can you project a calming feeling with your psychic powers?" I asked my green and white partner.
"Ralts!" it nodded in understanding.
With Ralts projecting a calming felling at the Lillipup, Silvia approached again. This time she held her hand palm up and moved it slowly in front of the pokemon's nose.
"See, we are nice people and just want to help..." She spoke again.
Lillipup sniffed her hand before it gave her palm a few friendly licks. I joined them and took a quick look at the Lillipup, it was lightly injured but otherwise fine. Though a bit reluctant, and some urging from Ralts' calming feeling, I was able to pick up the berry and examine it.
Setting my pack down, I reached in and pulled out one of the two travel books I packed. The two books had various information about pokemon, their locations, moves, abilities, towns, berries, a detailed map of Unova, and a few other things. They didn't have all the detailed information that a pokedex did, but instead covered more general info. Flipping to the right section, I found what I was looking for and discovered that the Lillipup had gotten hold of a Rawst Berry. Rawst Berries were used to treat and cure burns.
The dog like pokemon growled a little at me as I continued to hold the berry.
"You need this for a friend, don't you?" Silvia asked. Lillipup only nodded and then started limping off and trying to get us to follow. We recalled our pokemon as Lillipup lead on.
We continued to follow Lillipup for about ten minutes until we arrived at a cave dug into the side of a small hill. Lillipup made a soft yip before heading inside. Silvia crawled in as well, just barely fitting into the small entrance. I decided to wait outside, the hill wasn't very big and probably couldn't have room for more than one person and a pokemon.
A moment later, Silvia called my name and I looked inside. I had guessed right that there wasn't much room and almost all of it was taken up by the slender girl, but also by the Lillipup and an injured Patrat.
"Silvia, do you think you can gently move the Patrat out here?"
"I'll try." her voice answered before she slowly picked up the chipmunk like pokemon. "This may hurt a little, but we want to help you. So please, bare with it."
A minute later, Silvia's held the injured Patrat outside the den. The Patrat was heavily injured, patches of fur were missing all over it's body, and in place were purn marks and wounds.
I reached into my backpack once again and pulled out a bottle of water, a Sinnoh Survival Knife (1) and a tin cup. Cutting off the end, I poured out what little juice there was into the cup and added a little water.
"Drink a little of this." I offered the wounded pokemon before continuing to turn the berry into a paste to put on the wounds.
After an agonizing long hour, Silvia and I finished putting on the salve. We didn't have any bandages to wrap around the Patrat, but I had taken out a shirt and turned it into stripes of cloth to use instead. The whole time, Lillipup watched over it's friend.
This was only a temporary solution, Patrat would survive, but would still be missing patches of fur. However, if we took it to a Pokemon Center...
"Hey you two..." I began, speaking to the pokemon "We've done what we can on our own. Patrat, you'll most likely recover... but it might take some time. However there is an option open. We can take you to a Center. You'll make a faster and full recovery, but you'll be in the full care of humans."
I let the full weight sink in before continuing. "Many pokemon don't want help from humans, but I am going to leave the choice to you. We don't have any pokeballs yet so we'll have to carry you. But, I'm leaving it up to you."
The two pokemon looked at each other and began conversing as all pokemon do, speaking only their name. Eventually, they turned to us and Lillipup nodded. "Pup!"
"I guess we know their answer." Silvia commented.
"We'll have to wait until morning before we can travel any further, I think we should rest up a little. You look like you're about to drop, Silvia."
"Alright, but let's not rest long. Only a few hours." She tried her best to insist upon me her demands, though she wasn't very convincing .
With a light chuckle to myself I reached over to my pack and unhooked the sleeping bag and handed it to her. "Here, get some sleep. I'll stay up and make sure no wild pokemon come around to bother us."
She opened her mouth to reply but I interrupted her before she could start. "Remember, I was sleeping a bit until mid morning when you came to get me. I'll be fine until we get to the next town."
I could see that she wanted to argue further about it, but couldn't find anything really wrong with what I said. She was about to lay down and use the bag as a pillow until I told her to just unroll it.
"But, we'll only be here for a few hours. I'll only need to use it as a pillow. No reason to do anything else." Silvia pouted.
I sighed as I shook my head. "Silvia, you'll be able to sleep much better if you just unroll it, and you can use your pack as a pillow."
She pouted again, but began to unroll the singles sleeping bag. "You're so good at this, unlike me. When did you learn all of this?"
"Uncle took me camping every now and then. He knew I might turn out to be a trainer and wanted me to get a little experience roughing it. 'You won't always have a bed to sleep in on a journey, and even if you don't become a trainer, camping outside every now and then isn't so bad.' where his exact words. And don't worry about not being good at this yet. Everyone has to start somewhere, even me."
"Thanks." the blonde girl replied, with a slight blush she hid as she climbed into the sleeping bag and quickly falling asleep

(1) Sinnoh Survival Knife - For those who don't get it off the bat, think a Swish Army Knife.
Sorry this took so long to update. I hope to get more reviews on what you all think. And to answer 1358-2S question, Marius is a guy. I missed a sentence by accident when writing. Below is the corrected sentence, which I already changed in the original.
"HA! Girl, get rid of that thing!" He told his daughter before setting his gaze on me. "So the abandoned son of two failure trainers is gona play with monsters and become a wash out like his parents!"
I hope to have the next chapter out faster than this one. And again, sorry for the delay.
