Chapter 1: And so it begins

A groan from the dining table is heard. Kara pulled away and said, “I should not have done that. My mistake. I better check on Saizo.” She rose and walked over to the table. She said to Saizo, “Greetings Saizo. You are safe.”
Saizo groaned, “Lord Yuki......”
Kara chuckled and said, “Yukimura is resting in a chair in my den. He was already asking me questions. You should take it easy. You were wounded.” She helped him sit up and rise off the table.
Saizo said, “Wha....”
Kara shook her head and said, “Later.” She helped him walk into the den.
Saizo saw Yukimura sitting in a chair looking at Sasuke who was now trying sitting up. Saizo gasped as he felt Kara leave his side. He found the ground fast approaching and landed on the carpet with a loud thud.
Kara gasped when she saw Sasuke trying to speak and sit up. She forgot that Saizo was more injured than the others and ran to Sasuke's side to help him sit up. She said, “If you must talk, no shouting as you have hurt your throat bad.” She looked up at the thud sound and noticed that Saizo had fallen over. She gasped and ran back to Saizo. She said, “Why fall when you could have used the wall to hold you up?”
One week later
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kara was still reeling that her magic summoned Yukimura as her protector. She was still wondering about the kiss and her response to it. She took Shindara with her to the store and get some food for everyone.
Shindara noticing Kara's distraction asked, “Is everything alright, Kara?”
Kara nodded and said, “Yes Shin. Everything is alright.”
Shindara winced at his shortened name. He then remembered why his name had to be shortened and the order that Yukimura gave him about guarding her. ~Flashback~
They were sitting in the den as Kara explained how she found them. Kara said, “It is the year 2002. Magical people who can do magic are being hunted. Me included. I was exposed by a neighbor who has since moved away. People here believe that witches are using their powers to manipulate people's minds. I have had my home searched twice before by witch-hunters and have been questioned in detail about myself and my linage.” She rubbed her neck with remembered pain and continued as no one interrupted, “Your names are a dead give away that you are not from here. In order to protect myself and you from the witch-hunters we need to change your names. Don't worry I will not change your names too drastically. Yukimura will be called Yuki in public or when I have company. Shindara will be called Shin. Saizo will be called Sai. Mokera will be called Moko. Sasuke can keep his name just the way it is.” She did not see the tongue that Sasuke gave Saizo. She concluded, “All of you are called the names of my favorite characters from my favorite animes. Please do not show any outward discomfort at being called those names. It is for all of our best interests that you do as I ask. Otherwise I will be killed as will all of you.” She said her peace and left the room. Yukimura waited until he heard the door close. He said, “You all will not fight her on that or give her grief.”
Saizo said, “Why did she not change Sasuke's name, Lord Yukimura?”
Shindara found a manga on a shelf and opened it. He said, “Because Sasuke is the name of her favorite character in this manga.” He showed them a copy of Naruto and in it had hearts drawn around Sasuke Uchiha. He closed the book and returned it to the shelf.
Yukimura walked over to Shindara and said, “When I am not around her it is your job to protect her.” He smiled and walked out of the room after receiving a nod from Shindara.
~End of Flashback~
Shindara thought to himself, {Does Yukimura and Kara know their hearts are intertwined?} He shook the thought out of his head.
Kara was looking at Shindara in the checkout queue. She chuckled and said, “Shin lets go. Yuki will be mad if lunch is not ready on time.” She noticed that Shindara walked a little faster and she continued, “Calm down Shin. I was joking. I have never heard Yuki raise his voice.” She placed the bags in the car.
Shindara said, “He is not one to raise his voice unless you never pay attention to him. Now why have you been avoiding Yuki?” He entered the car.
Kara got in the car and said, “After I brought him tea when you arrived, he kissed me. I was stunned and kissed back.” She was blushing at telling this. She drove home.
Two weeks after the arrival
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Yukimura was trying to figure out his feelings for Kara. He was grateful that she nursed him to health but something in his heart sang when she spoke to him. He felt his heart breaking when she talked to Shindara or Sasuke. He don't even know why he told Shindara to watch over her in his absence. He looked up when he heard the door open. He was reading the same page when Sasuke and Mokera ran into the apartment. He chuckled when he heard them laughing. He knew that Kara was avoiding him.
Kara left a note that said that she went to pay her bills and she would be back later.
Shindara walked out of the room he and Saizo was sharing. He walked into the kitchen and found tea on the stove but no Kara who always made tea and talked with him. He walked into the living room and said to Yukimura, “Is Kara sleeping in late?” He was stunned to see the rage in Yukimura's eyes.
Yukimura realized that Shindara was not with Kara and that enraged him. He said, “Why did you not go with her like your promise? I was not able to go yet.”
Shindara gasped, “Kara left the house?”
Yukimura was enraged further and did not notice Kara walking in. He shouted, “SHE COULD BE KILLED!!! THAT IS ALL YOU CAN SAY.” He punched at Shindara and knew that the blow would be deflected. He felt something soft touch his fist. Yukimura looked and noticed that he punched Kara. He felt his heart dying at the fear in her eyes for him.
Shindara saw the punch coming and knew it would be deflected. He felt a body fall into him and saw Kara be struck by the punch. His jaw dropped knowing that she took all Yukimura's anger.
Kara paid all her bills as she did every month. She walked into her apartment and noticed Yukimura was angry. She heard his comments and ran to stop him knowing that he was about to do something Yukimura would regret. She felt his fist connect with her left temple. Her heart broke at the connection of the fist with her head. She looked at Yukimura with fear that she never felt in the questioning by the witch-hunters. She ran from the living room and into the kitchen.
Shindara said, “Yukimura wait here if you go to her now you will feed that fear. She never told you all they did to her to find out if she was a witch. I will check on her for you.” He walked into the kitchen and he was shocked when he heard Kara speaking.
Kara faced the freezer not seeing Shindara. She said shaking, “He is not them....” She kept repeating that. She made an ice pack for her throbbing head. She turned and gasped when she noticed Shindara. She said, “I need to take care of this. I was going to heat up some soup for you all to eat and then I am going to take a nap.” She placed a pot on the stove while holding the ice pack to her head. She made the soup and placed the hot pan on the table. She walked passed Yukimura while saying, “Everyone lunch is ready. Soup and sandwiches are on the table.” She flinched away as Yukimura tried to reach for her. She walked into her room and shut the door behind her.
Yukimura noticed that Shindara walked to the door and knocked.
Shindara walked into the room Kara shared with Yukimura. He noticed that she was packing a bag. He touched her shoulder and said, “Kara, my friend, what are you doing?”
Kara said, “I would rather Yukimura stay with you and Saizo or with Mokera and Sasuke for a few nights so that I can over come this.”
Shindara sighed as she handed him a bag filled with the clothes she bought for Yukimura. He said, “I will but you are breaking his heart. I have long noticed he loves you and wishes no harm on you. That is the reason for his anger today. His worry came out as anger. He did not want to hit you.”
Kara said, “I know he loves me. I see it in his eyes when he watches me. The punch today just took me back to when I was being questioned about being a witch by the hunters. They are expert mind manipulators.”
Shindara said, “Did they touch you in a sexual manner?”
Kara said, “No. Just drugged me and then told me that they did. Look just do that for me please. I have to work out these memories on my own.” She placed the ice pack over her eyes and fell asleep.
Three weeks after their arrival
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Yukimura wondered at Kara's avoidance of him when he hit her by accident. He noticed that Kara left the room she was supposed to share with him. He wanted answers. He wanted to be the one to comfort her after a nightmare that she had after he hit her. He watched her walk into the kitchen and went into the kitchen after her.
Kara walked into the kitchen after waking up late. She had a rough night with nightmares all night long. She knew that she would let Shindara and Saizo sleep. They deserve that for being there when she woke. Shindara was there and listened to her as he knew what she went through. Saizo was just as comforting just allowing her to hold him not asking questions.
Yukimura said, “Good afternoon. Can I talk to you for a bit?”
Kara jumped and spun around. She shook her head, “I am sorry but I am very busy.” She started walking out only to be stopped by Yukimura grabbing her arm.
Yukimura grabbed her arm and said softly, “I want to apologize for hitting you. I never meant to hurt you.” He leaned into her and kissed her left temple where he hit her. He said, “Please talk to me. I am worried about you.” He pulled away when he felt her shaking in his arms. He noticed that she was crying.
Kara heard his soft “please” and that made her heart ache. She started crying. She knew that he was suffering from what Shindara had told her. She grabbed onto him and held him as though her life depended on it.
Shindara walked out of his room and witnessed the embrace. He smiled and walked back to the bed.
Yukimura allowed her to hold on. He said softly, “When you want to tell me, I will be here.” His heart clenched as she would not let him go. He said, “I will not rush you into accepting my love. I hurt you too bad.”
Kara said softly, “I love you too. I know you are not them. You are forgiven.” She led him to the room she wanted to share with him again. She sat him down on the bed and told him all that the witch-hunters did to her. After she finished her tale she walked to the window knowing that Yukimura would leave her.
Yukimura sat there and listened to Kara explain what the witch-hunters did to her. He became angry at the mind games the hunters did to her. He noticed that she finished her tale and she walked to the window not wanting to see him if he walked out on her. He rose from the bed and went to the window with her. He spun her around and kissed her. He pulled away and said, “I will not leave you over this. Come let us have a nap.”
Kara was shocked when he turned her around and kissed her. She was sure that her tale would scare Yukimura off to where he would not want her. Now here he was kissing her and the words he said were a balm for her wounded heart. She nodded at the comment about a nap. She let him guide her back to the bed and laid down on it. She tensed as she felt Yukimura climb in the bed after her.
Yukimura laid down beside her and did not feel hurt that she tensed. He touched her shoulder and guided her into his arms. He said, “I will guard your dreams.”
Kara heard that and relaxed against him.
Yukimura woke hours later to a crash in the kitchen. He released Kara and walked out of the room hearing fighting in the kitchen. He walked into the kitchen and laughed at the sight. Shindara and Sasuke both covered in eggs looked at him. Yukimura said, “What is going on?”
Sasuke said, “Saizo and Mokera are hungry. Shindara said that I am not allowed to bother Kara today.”
Yukimura said, “Kara is having a bad time. She is asleep. She said that we can order this thing called pizza. That is what we will do. We will let her rest and order that for food.” He dug out something she called money from her bag and said, “Make sure this will be enough.”
Shindara called the pizza place and ordered what she had circled on a piece of paper. He asked if two twenties were enough and nodded when he received an affirmative. He hung up the phone like he witnessed Kara doing. He said, “It will be here in thirty minutes.”
Yukimura nodded and walked back into the room where Kara was still sleeping. He smiled and kissed her forehead.
Kara woke and said, “What time is it?”
Yukimura said, “Late.”
Kara sat up and gasped. She rose off the bed and said, “Everyone must be starving. I will have dinner ready soon.” She felt Yukimura's hand enclose around her wrist. She turned to him.
Yukimura said, “We called in for pizza I think that is what you call it.”
Kara nodded. She smiled weakly.
Yukimura hugged her and kissed her forehead again. He said, “You are to rest. You helped us now let us help you.”
Kara blushed and nodded. She let him lead her back to the bed. She laid down and fell back asleep.
Yukimura sighed as he sat down on the floor waiting for her to awaken again. He knew finally what was in his heart for Kara. He knew that she would be his wife. He wondered if she knew of this connection.
Kara stirred in her sleep and started to wake knowing that she was being watched. She opened her eyes and sighed as she saw Yukimura was watching her. She said softly, “You did not have to stay in the room with me. Go join the others for dinner. I will be fine.”
Yukimura said, “My heart won't allow me to leave my wife when she is hurting.”
Kara said, “I am not your wife.”
Yukimura said, “In my heart you already are.” He kissed her softly. He joined her back on the bed. He softly said, “Please be mine tonight and all nights to come.” He smiled and kissed her again as she nodded. He removed her sweats and his in record time.
She gasped at the love she saw in his eyes. She removed her t shirt in one quick movement.
Yukimura returned to her arms and laid her back down. He positioned his cock next to her cunt and slowly entered it. He groaned at the heat that encased his cock. He looked at Kara for any signs of outward pain. When he saw none, he started to thrust slowly.
Kara gasped in ecstasy as Yukimura thrust into her.

She knew that Sasuke and Mokera were back from school. She enrolled them so that they could be among other people. She noticed that at first Sasuke was upset that his friend was listed as junior high as Sasuke was labeled as elementary. She called out, “Do your homework first.”
Sasuke said, “I need help with my maths.”
Mokera said, “I need help with my Sciences.”
Kara said, “Well come into the dining room and I will help you both.” She helped them with their homework before Yukimura woke up. She let him sleep in today because he was upset at Sasuke and Mokera going to school.
Saizo groaned as he walked into the apartment. He dropped his books on the floor as he removed his shoes.
Kara poked her head out of the kitchen and said, “Do your homework, Saizo.”
Shindara walked in and said, “I will make sure he does.” He led Saizo to the dining table after picking up the books.
Saizo said, “I don't want to. I want to take a bath first and rest.”
Kara walked out of the kitchen and said, “Now if I let you slack off on your homework, then Sasuke and Mokera will want to slack off theirs. You and Shindara are in college, Saizo. There is one thing I did learn from college is that for every hour you spend in lectures and labs, you spend at least 2 hours at home studying.”
Shindara said, “Saizo, we promised her that we would do our best.”
Kara said, “Listen to us Saizo. Doing these things will help you acclimate in the US better.”
Saizo sighed and nodded.
At dinner that night
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Mokera sighed and said, “I might change one of my classes.”
Yukimura said, “Why?”
Mokera said, “I have to take Homesciences and I do not want to.”
Kara said, “You might like that class. I know that I did when I was in school.”
Mokera said, “There is more girls than boys in that class.”
Kara said, “I will deal with this Yukimura.” She saw that he nodded and he started talking to Shindara. Kara continued, “Mokera, the reason for that is because the class does cooking, sewing, gardening. There is other aspects to the class. That might make the class worth your while.” She finished talking as Mokera nodded.
One month later
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Yukimura sat in the living room waiting for Kara to return from the doctors. He was worried about his love who has been sick for a month.
Kara walked in and smiled at Yukimura. She walked into the kitchen without a word.
Yukimura rose from the chair and followed her into the kitchen. He said, “What is wrong love?”
Kara turned and said with a smile, “My iron is a little low. Nothing to worry about. I just need to increase my iron intake and rest when I can.” She yawned and walked passed him. She said, “I am going to take a nap. Please make sure Sasuke and Mokera do their homework.” She smiled as he nodded.
Yukimura said, “I will keep them......” His sentence was cut off by the closing of the bedroom door. He walked back to the chair in the living room.
In the bedroom, Kara laid down on the bed and sighed. She said softly to no one, “How do I tell him? I heard what he said about children.”
~Flashback two weeks~
Mokera came to the dinner table with the egg in a basket.
Kara just smiled knowing the assignment Mokera was doing. She said, “Does the child have a name?”
Yukimura said, “What child?”
Mokera showed him the egg and smiled. He said to Kara, “His name is Koko.”
Kara smiled and said, “It fits.”
Yukimura said, “That is no child that is just an egg.” He did not see the hurt Mokera had in his eyes.
Mokera flinched at the words. He ran out of the room and into his room.
Kara turned hard to Yukimura and kick his shin. She rose from the table and said, “Sasuke, here take your dinner and Mokera's dinner into your room and eat.”
Sasuke did as he was told. He wanted to be sure his best friend was alright.
Kara sighed and said, “He is trying to get a good grade out of a class that he feels out of place in. He was failing that class because the other 4 boys in that class dropped it due to their parents. He is the only boy left in the class. You hurt him. Why did you do that?”
Yukimura said, “I would not want a child to be born just to be hunted. No child shall enter this house.”
~End of Flashback~
She was brought out of her memories by a slamming of the door. She smiled until she heard Sasuke yell at Yukimura. She noticed her door opened and she looked. She saw Mokera standing there with tears in his eyes.
Mokera walked into the house and passed Yukimura. He was upset at the grade he got in homescience class' project of parenting. He had to talk to Kara. He walked to Kara's room and entered it. He ran to her when she opened her arms.
She found herself with an upset young man who she was cultivating. She said, “Mokera what is it?” She was unprepared for the crying that came out. She rocked him and sang a song to calm him down.
Dream by night,

She walked Mokera back to his room and laid him down. She noticed the report on his project and the grade. She covered him with a blanket. She knew that he would want to hear the last of the song so she sang:

She picked up the report and rose off the ground. She turned to leave and noticed Yukimura standing there. She grabbed his arm and escorted him away from the door. She walked him back to their room and shut the door. She growled, “You need to stay out of Mokera's studies from now on.”
Yukimura said, “Love, what is it?”
Kara said angrily, “Mokera failed the parenting assignment. It was a major part of his final grade. I will deal with Mokera's studies from here on out. If you can't deal with that, then tough.” She walked out of the room.
She walked into the kitchen and noticed Sasuke was doing his homework. She smiled at him and said, “How was your day?”
Sasuke said, “It was harder. We have more classes due to exams. I want to do my best. I can't believe it a whole week left and then a week off for some holiday.”
Kara smiled and nodded, “Oh yes. Thanksgiving. I have to go shopping for that dinner.”
Sasuke handed her a piece of paper and asked, “Can you please sign this? I want to go to the space museum.” He smiled as she signed the paper and checked that Sasuke could go on the field trip.
Kara signed the permission slip. She rose and went into the kitchen when Yukimura walked out of the room.
Sasuke knew something was up and gathered his supplies to finish his homework in his room with Mokera.
Kara was in the kitchen making dinner for everyone.
One week later
~*~*~*~*~*~*
Two men were knocking at the door.
Kara opened the door. She was glad that Saizo and Shindara were home from their classes. She sighed seeing the witch-hunters at her doorstep. She said, “What is it this time?”
One of the men said, “We need to make sure there are no witches in your apartment. We are here to search your apartment.” He pushed the door open more and walked in.
Yukimura knew who these men were and knew to keep his mouth shut.
The witch-hunters searched the apartment and walked into the kitchen.
One found Kara's handbag and began to search through it. He held up a bottle of pills.
Kara gasped as he was about to open the bottle and said, “No.” She ran to the man and grabbed the bottle. She said, “Stay away from my prenatal vitamins.” Her eyes widened as she covered her mouth. She had hoped that Yukimura did not hear what she had said. She saw him rise and look at her. She took off to the bathroom and slammed the door in his face. She locked it and started to cry.
Yukimura heard Kara say, 'prenatal vitamins' and remembered from a while back when Shindara was doing his college paper on prenatal vitamins. He heard Kara say that they are special vitamins that women take when they are pregnant. He followed Kara. He was stopped by the door slamming in his face.
The witch-hunters left the house. They had a rule that if a witch was pregnant then they would leave the witch alone until the child no longer needed the parent. They knew that it will be a while before they can return to this apartment.
Shindara walked down the hall and said, “Yukimura go into the living room and I will talk to her.” He knocked on the bathroom door after Yukimura left.
Kara heard the knock and said, “Go away. I am not in the mood.”
Shindara said, “Kara, come into my room and talk.” He turned and walked into the room he shared with Saizo. He left the door open a crack after pretending to close it when Kara walked in. He knew full well that Yukimura was sitting close to hear the conversation.
Kara walked out of the bathroom and into the room. She said, “I said it before I am not in the mood.”
Shindara said, “How long?”
Kara replied, “Almost three months.”
Shindara said, “Were you planning on telling him?” Shindara was stunned as he seen Kara shake her head. He continued, “Why ever not?”
She snarled, “No child shall ever be brought into this house. Those were his own words.”
Yukimura sat out in the hallway and heard his own words thrown back at Shindara. He thought, {I did not mean it that way. This will be a child that my heart has given us.}
Shindara said, “I have never him utter those words.”
Yukimura could not make out what all was said as they spoke in hushed tones.
Shindara said, “You rest in here for a while. I will cook tonight.” He guided her to the bed and laid her down on it. He walked out of the room. He closed the door tightly behind him as he grabbed Yukimura roughly by the arm. He dragged Yukimura into the kitchen. He spoke in soft tones to Yukimura about Kara's pregnancy.
Yukimura sighed and explained the comment.
