Sweet as Sugar
Chapter two
Dinner and a Movie
You giggled a little at the almost frightened look on Hani’s face. The movie wasn’t that scary. Sure it was an import to Japan, and the themes were more drastic, but it almost seemed ridiculous the way he was clinging to both you and Mori.
“We could turn this off, Hani,” You offered.
Hani shook his head, tears clinging to his bright eyes. “No! You and Mori are watching it!”
You sighed and looked up towards Mori as though he’d help. Instead he seemed intent on watching this movie. Go figure – he really did have the strong, silent type down even in casual situations. With a sigh as you tried to figure out how to calm down Hani without offending him, you just sat there. You felt him jump against you, and then hide his face into Mori’s side…
…you know, for a martial arts master and prodigy he really was a jumpy little thing.
Wasn’t the practice to teach a certain oneness or something? Whatever it was supposed to teach in the way of nerves, it seemed as though it had missed Hani. He got all the talent, all the moves, with very little of the mental discipline. At least, as far as you could see.
The tv clicked off and you turned to see Mori with his hand slightly out, the remote nestled in it.
“Mori---!”
“It’s your bed time,” the tones were very Mori.
Hani had a bedtime?
“Just one moooore?”
You felt kind of like a rope in the game as Hani gripped your arm while Mori simply looked at Hani silently. There was a moment or something, something you didn’t understand, between the two of them. And then happily, Hani settled back down as Mori flipped through the channels for something a bit more suitable.
And within the hour, Hani was sound asleep sprawled out across the two of you. It was so cute, you couldn’t help but brush his honey blonde hair (how he got that shade natural and was Japanese you had no idea) as though he were just a little pet. He was so innocently cute in his sleep…
Mori moved, settling Hani on the couch where he was. Your eyes followed the tall third-year as he walked towards the bedroom and came back with a cover and a pillow. You shook your head, an indulgent smile on your face as you held out your hands for the cover. It took you a moment, but you’d wrapped Hani in the blanket. The movie played in the background, the show slowly coming to a close actually.
Slowly, you moved….and found out that Hani must have been all muscle in the guise of a little kid. Honestly – how heavy could someone be at his size? (recently you’d started to doubt that the size he gave you was the right one…you’d wanted to carry a measuring tape around but thought that would look silly.) It was almost…inhuman. Thankfully the taller of the lot, and probably in the whole hotel, understood the struggle as he bent down to scoop Hani up. Previously precariously balanced on his arm the pillow now rested under Hani’s head as Mori carried him back to the bed.
The silent man did all of this as you tidied up (so what if you had maids…they were sleeping and you hated a dirty table). Of course, at the end of it…all you did was move the dishes into a cabinet out of sight. There was a common saying of “out of sight, out of mind” for a reason after all right?
“Don’t wake him up in the morning,” Mori spoke in a slightly hushed toned.
“What?” you couldn’t help but ask.
“He doesn’t wake up in a good mood…don’t wake him up.”
If you could have sweat dropped at the idea, you would have even as you slid back down onto the couch. The idea of a bad mood Hani was tempting…but even you knew better than to wake a sleeping child up when there wasn’t any need. As you relaxed back onto the couch, so did Mori. Another movie was flipped on, just in a much more subdued volume as not to wake the sleeping Hani. And sooner or later you fell asleep on the couch as well and rightly cuddled right onto Mori. It wasn’t like you could control where you moved to in your sleep could you?
Plus…Mori was asleep too…no harm, no foul.
At least until morning rolled around.
