Izuku is scared and unable to wrap his head around the fact that he has a soulmate. He's been told countless times that a Quirkless Deku like him doesn't even have the right to have a soulmate and that he should expect to never have one, and he had believed it right up until now. That his soulmate skirts the edge of legality—he's here with the villains and had been working with them, right?—isn't lost on Izuku. An almost villain for a soulmate is frankly more than what he deserves, which is to be alone for the rest of his life, but he isn't going to complain. He won't even complain if his soulmate realizes that he's probably better off without Izuku dragging him down, though that thought makes something ache deep inside of him.
Izuku doesn't get the chance to dwell on that for very long because Aizawa moves to put Quirk suppression cuffs on the warp guy, which frees up his soulmate to head over to him. The joy that surges through Izuku is short-lived as Shōto moves to stand between them, and Izuku has to peek around Shōto to look at his soulmate. The expression that twists its way across his soulmate's scarred face is positively murderous, his eyes filled with a hatred that doesn't make sense to Izuku, and it takes everything Izuku has to not flinch even though the expression isn't even directed at him.
"You're in my way, masterpiece," Izuku's soulmate sneers out, his striking turquoise eyes looking like they're glowing, and Shōto flinches sharply at the moniker that nobody else should know is spat out so venomously, like the man wants him dead.
Shōto takes a second to steel himself, little flames licking along his left arm while frost covers his right as he stands up straighter and matches the man in height. "What do you want, villain?"
The man's irises brighten and blue flames sprout across his shoulders, along his arms, and in his hair as he glares murderous intent at Shōto. He grimaces faintly like the flames are hurting him, but he keeps them up. "I want to check on my soulmate, now move or I will make you move."
"I-I'll be f-fine, Todoroki-kun," Izuku stammers out and Shōto whips around to look at him, his eyes wide and filled with shock, while the man stiffens oddly. "Y-you should t-take Kacchan and Tokoyami t-to Aizawa-sensei so he c-can get them out of t-the marbles."
"You're his soulmate?!" Shōto's voice cracks a little with his question and Izuku slowly nods in response, not quite trusting his voice to hold up at the moment. A whole slew of emotions flicker through Shōto's eyes with Izuku's answer, and Izuku can barely decipher all of them but a couple does stand out. Anger and disappointment.
Izuku takes a step back, unable to parse why Shōto is looking at him with anger and disappointment in his eyes and ducks his head to avoid his gaze. He misses the worried look his soulmate gives him but not the impatient 'Tch' that he gives.
"He has two broken arms and the longer you keep me from him the more pissed off I'm getting, now fucking move or I will burn you," his soulmate snaps, and Izuku's gaze darts up to find that the bright blue flames of his soulmate's Quirk are growing in size. They go out in the blink of an eye and his soulmate curses low under his breath, too low for Izuku to catch.
"Let him pass, Todoroki," Aizawa calls out, his voice strained and sounding more exhausted than usual. "You can't block someone from seeking out their soulmate." There's a note of warning to the statement, and Shōto finally relents, his shoulders slumping as he moves aside. "Now come over here and leave them be."
"Fucking finally," Izuku's soulmate exclaims and he closes the gap between them. His expression shifts drastically, becoming considerably softer as he looks Izuku over but refrains from reaching out to touch him despite how much it looks like he wants to. "How bad does it hurt?"
"Uh…" Izuku looks down at his arms and then back up at his soulmate. "I'm kinda already used to the pain now." It is apparently the wrong thing to say from the irritated look that flits across his soulmate's face, and he whirls around to look at Aizawa.
"I'm taking him to the closest hospital," his soulmate calls out to Aizawa in a tone that brooks no argument, and he doesn't wait for Aizawa to respond to him before he turns back to Izuku and scoops him up. The action jars Izuku enough that it does hurt again, at which his soulmate breathes a soft "Sorry," into his ear, and then they're rocketing up into the air, propelled by the flames of his soulmate's Quirk.
Izuku instinctively tucks his head underneath his soulmate's chin and grits his teeth against the renewed pain radiating from his arms while tears fill his eyes. He tries to not cry or even whimper but he can't help it, and by the time they land—just how long had they been in the air? Five minutes? Ten? It can't be any longer than that—he's on the verge of passing out again. He's in so much pain that he doesn't know where they are—his soulmate had said he was taking him to the closest hospital, he can recall that much but he doesn't remember which hospital is the closest to where they were staying.
He becomes vaguely aware that his soulmate is speaking and at first he can't make anything out, the pain clouding his mind too much. "-name, kid?" His soulmate's voice finally pierces through the haze of pain, and Izuku assumes that he's asking for his name from what little he did catch.
"Midoriya Izuku," Izuku manages to gasp out before he finally succumbs to the pain and everything goes black for him.
