Chapter 2
Once fully in the circle, shadows covered everything again. Sebastian appeared next to him and held out his hand. “Let us go.”
Ciel nodded and took his hand. “Very well.” He was rather curious as to what this other world will be like. Sebastian led Ciel out of the circle, having him walk next to him on what sounded like a stone path. There was still almost no light here. If not for Sebastian’s hand he may actually have tripped.
“So what has your friend found out about my kind?” The Fae wondered what the humans got correct.
Ciel shrugged. “Not much. We don’t have access to a lot of information.” His lip twitched in a smirk though. “I also don’t always pay attention to Alois. He can ramble and be annoying at times so I tend to just tune him out.”
Sebastian raised a brow. “How interesting. But if you had paid attention to him then you may have known more about your current fate.”
A frown was given at that. “Well…yeah. I guess. But he doesn’t need to know that. Besides, now you can tell me.”
“Of course my Puppy Lord. I must educate you on the ways of living with a Fae.” Sebastian smirked. “Though I wonder if you will listen this time or not.”
Ciel had a flash of annoyance in his eye and tried to pull hand free. “Don’t call me that dammit. And we’ll have to see if you’re boring or not.” He suddenly winced when the grip tightened painfully.
Sebastian had stopped walking and was holding Ciel in place. “You are misunderstanding this Ciel. You belong to me now. Currently you are amusing but my patience only goes so far. I will call you what I want and tell you what I want you to know. And you will learn to listen to what I say.” Despite the warning in his tone he still had a peaceful expression.
It was a somewhat unnerving combination that had Ciel feeling cold a little, and pretty sure his wrist will be bruised. When he looked in the Fae’s eyes he saw something in those red depths. Something that reminded him that this is not a human and that he himself can easily die. So he did what seemed correct. He nodded. The smile continued, Sebastian’s grip letting up but not releasing.
“So…where are we?” Ciel figured trying to learn something may settle the Fae down.
“We are in my realm. You cannot see as I have not given your other eye the Gift. When we reach my home I will give it to you.”
Ciel gave a slow nod. “Ah…and…how does that happen? It’s not going to hurt again will it?” He didn’t want to have his only good eye bleeding.
Sebastian chuckled. “No. I merely kiss the closed eye and you can see my world. No pain.”
Ciel tilted his head. If it was that easy then why wait? “So why don’t you do it now? What’s the point of having me walk through darkness?” Was it just to be annoying? He wouldn’t doubt it.
The raven kept his smile still as he looked at the shorter male. “This part of my world can be rather upsetting to humans. So I suppose I am keeping your mind safe.” Once again Sebastian was curious as to why he was doing this. He hasn’t had issues showing it to past pets.
Ciel blinked and looked forward at the nothing. “Oh…well…I guess thank you then.” After a few more minutes he wondered if his eyes were playing tricks as a light began to appear as if at the end of a tunnel. He was quietly led to the exit and stepped out into a dull light. Ciel looked around. It looked like the forest again with nothing special about it. When he looked behind him he saw…nothing. It was just more forest. No exit from that shadow area. He turned back to look around them a bit. “So are we here?” He didn’t get an answer and was continued to be lead. He huffed but otherwise didn’t comment on it. After some walking he saw another entrance this time to a cave, with the entrance covered by vines.
Sebastian held aside the curtain of vines. “Welcome to my home.”
The human stepped into it slowly, frowning again at the plain walls. “So do I get that sight thing now?”
Sebastian moved in front of him and took Ciel’s chin to lift it up. “Yes.” He pressed his lips softly against Ciel’s left eye.
When Sebastian stood straight again he opened his eye and gasped. “Whoa…” Flowers that glowed softly covered the walls and parts of the ceiling, gems running like small rivers through the stone of the walls, a gold and silver infused floor. It was beautiful. As they went further into this wonderous cave they came across an open area with a bear rug on the floor, a firepit with the smoke going up to a natural hole in the ceiling of the cave, a nice sized bed, and a rather comfy looking chair in front of the firepit with more vines and flowers on it. “This is…” Way more than he had ever thought possible to see in his life.
Sebastian walked past him to put another log on the fire. “This is why we keep our world hidden. Humans enjoy taking apart nature to get the things that shine.” He shrugged and faced his new pet. He enjoyed the wonderous look on the boy’s face. “Though I tend to not be as flashy as others of my kind. I enjoy the simple life.”
Ciel blinked. “Wait. This isn’t flashy?” He got a chuckle from that and while it annoyed him yet again he decided to ignore the feeling. He was starting to wonder if perhaps he actually wanted to stay in this life. The power and the beauty were extremely tempting to an orphan that had everything taken from him. He walked over to a wall where some flowers were growing on the wall itself. Amazing. “So what do you do for entertainment?” It didn’t really look like he had much in that aspect.
Sebastian smiled and sat down in front of the fire. “I enjoy taking walks mainly. Though I also take pleasure from reading.”
Ciel perked up and looked over at that. “You have books?” Ciel definitely enjoyed them but didn’t get a wide variety.
The raven shrugged. “I refer to them as scrolls. But yes I have some. You will not be able to read them though as you do not know my people’s language.” He watched as the boy visibly seemed to deflate. “I suppose you enjoy reading?” He got a nod. “If you behave then perhaps I’ll read one of the stories to you. Translating isn’t an issue for me.”
Ciel was torn between annoyed at being reminded of his fate and thankful that he was given this opportunity. So he just did another nod before looking back to the flowers. Then, after a few seconds of silence he said, “Thank you.” He recognized that this Fae wasn’t required to keep him entertained or to give him anything. But he did. And that began to change his opinion on the other.
He turned back to find the Fae watching him. “So does the forest look different as well?” A sudden fact told by Alois came to mind. “Is this eye thing like looking through a Fae stone?” Alois had once told him that if he found a stone with a natural hole in it, then it can be used to see the other realm without any Fae seeing him. He’d never found one before so didn’t even know if it was a real thing.
Sebastian raised a brow. “Oh? Remembering something hm?” He seemed to think about his answer. “In a way it is the same as in it reveals my world, but a Stone is more complicated than what I have given you.”
Ciel had an interested look and actually took a step closer. “The stone is the more complicated one? In what ways?” He was rather impressed that nature seemed to be more powerful than the Fae. He’d never thought of that before.
Sebastian once again seemed to be considering whether to tell him or not. “A Stone has the power to communicate between other Fae over distances. And no I will not tell you how.” Better put that question to rest before it pops up.
Ciel nodded, remembering the warning from earlier. “Okay. So, does the forest look different?” He hadn’t answered that question after all.
“Nature remains nature.”
That was the annoyingly cryptic reply that once again made Ciel huff at the being. “Whatever that means.” His eyes moved to a few lines of emerald flowing underneath the flowers. He figured that he’d at least see other types of Fae or creatures like that. Since you can supposedly see it through the stone. “So what’s with the shadow Fae thing that Alois mentioned?”
Sebastian was watching the other, taking in all the emotions flowing through him. “That simply means that my power takes the form of shadows. It does not mean I am a different kind of Fae.” That bit of information was incorrect it seemed.
Ciel tilted his head in thought. “So there are other ways that the power can be shown?” The Fae simply nodded but didn’t seem to be interested in expanding on that. “So I suppose since you’re sitting you won’t be going on a walk and I highly doubt you believe I’ve earned a story. So what am I supposed to do here?” He was getting annoyed again that the Fae seemed to be toying with him.
Sebastian crossed his legs. “You can always tell me about your life before The Circle.” He raised a brow. “It was interesting you only want to say goodbye to that Alois boy.”
Ciel shrugged. “I’m an orphan. That place by the woods is an orphanage that is barely doing its job. We got the basics and it’s not like we were beat or anything. But the owner is fat, ugly, dumb, and seemed to think us younger boys were ‘beautiful’.” He made a face at that. “He never touched us but it wasn’t hidden that he wanted to.”
The Fae took a few moments to process that. “Are you worried for Alois?”
He shook his head. “No. Alois can take care of himself.” Of that he was positive. Alois had no problems fighting back if something didn’t sit right with him. Probably why he wasn’t messed with too much.
Sebastian chuckled as he remembered earlier. “Ah yes. I do believe that is true.” The boy had no problems threatening a Fae, after all. A human wasn’t going to stop him. “So, as you have asked me it I shall do the same. What do you usually do for entertainment?”
Ciel touched a soft petal of a green flower. “Reading mainly. Well that and challenging Alois to competitions. We’re always challenging each other.” He was sounding more comfortable, not as on guard anymore.
Red eyes gained a thoughtful look. “So you enjoy challenges?” That information was useful. He would be able to push the boy to his limits and use Ciel’s natural refusal to lose in order to keep him active. This pet was becoming even more interesting.
The bluenette nodded and looked back over. “Life is boring without competitions and pushing yourself.” His gaze was fierce at that. “If you have no desire to win then life is pointless.”
Sebastian raised a brow and did a soft clap. “Very well put.” He stood gracefully. “I suppose I can show you around the forest a bit. It’s still a while before dark.” Then he made his way to the entrance.
Ciel quickly followed, his eye shining with excitement. This world was fascinating and it had to be even better out in the forest. He had never felt this focused on something before. Even his challenges with Alois hadn’t taken up his entire attention.
Sebastian could feel Ciel’s growing addiction to the Fae world. Other pets had been fascinated by it but this was something different. He couldn’t put his finger on what was so different about this boy but knew he now had as long as he wanted to find out.
The walk down the tunnel was quiet, though when they got closer to the curtain of vines Ciel started walking a bit faster. Sebastian pulled it aside and allowed the boy to go into the forest.
Ciel had to blink at the sunlight. It was definitely bright after being in a cave. Once his eye adjusted he gasped. Apparently, what the Fae meant by ‘Nature remains nature’ is that everything was the same and yet better. The colors were brighter and there were flowers like the ones in the cave. He could hear a stream which he knew he hadn’t heard before. “It lets me hear things too?”
Sebastian chuckled and walked ahead of him. “Yes. Now come.”
Ciel scowled. “I’m not a dog.” And yet he still followed. While the Fae didn’t respond, Ciel could feel his smirk. Bastard. “so since there are new plants and a stream, does that mean there will be other creatures too?” He was rather excited by that prospect.
Sebastian glanced to him. “Yes. Though not all enjoy the presence of a human. Even a marked one such as yourself.”
Ciel nodded. “Well makes sense, I guess. Like you said earlier, humans tend to take apart and kill beautiful things.” No need to deny it. His species was horrible to nature.
The Fae watched him curiously. “Well done, Ciel.” He didn’t miss the slight smile and flash of pride on the boy’s face. “The main ones that live around here are small enough to stand on your hand, but will attack viciously when threatened.”
Ciel opened his mouth to answer when a strange chirping squeal came to him. He winced and looked around in annoyance. He caught the exasperated look on Sebastian’s face right before a strange person seemingly made of light flew over to hover in front of the tall man.
“Sebastian! We missed you!”
The raven sighed. “I saw you on yesterday’s walk Mei Rin. I was busy so did not take the walk today.”
Mei Rin flew over to hover in front of Ciel. The light receded to show a small woman with actual glasses on and a dress, tissue thin wings fluttering. “ooo!! You’re so cute!”
Ciel blushed bright at that and didn’t know whether to be insulted or not. So, he went with, “So I’ve been told. I’m Ciel.” Was this tiny being really dangerous? She looked a bit ditzy actually. Like if she was walking, she might trip a lot.
Sebastian chuckled. “Am I to assume that the others are here too?”
Mei Rin nodded. “All but Tanaka. He didn’t sleep well last night so went to bed early.”
A few seconds later and two more light beings came flying in. This time they took the form of males. One looking a bit thin but with a huge smile. The other had a bit more muscle and a playful grin.
Sebastian turned back to Ciel. “This is Finnian and Bardaroy. They live here as well.”
The blond laughed and flew over. “just call me Finny.”
“And I’m Bard!” this one had a rather deep yet slightly gritty voice. Almost like someone who’s smoked a lot.
“Ciel.” He hoped he didn’t have to introduce himself to anyone else. It was getting annoying. And having these three around was already annoying. Sure, he’d wanted to see other beings but he thought it’d be animals. Not more Fae. Which, now that he focused on it, was a really stupid thought. Of course they’d be Fae.
Over the next hour, (or what felt like an hour), Ciel came to the conclusion that Sebastian is a sadist. It’s obviously the tall Fae was not a true fan of all the antics of the smaller ones. But he seemed to delight in the fact that Ciel felt even worse about it. Finally they got back to the curtain and the cave.
Ciel had liked the nature part. Hated the interacting part. “Did you have to invite them to come with us?” When in the main area he went to the bed and flopped down face first.
Sebastian chuckled, still smirking. “Of course. They wanted to know you. Who am I deny that?”
Ciel rolled over and stared at the ceiling. Suddenly a thought entered. “…how is sleeping going to work?” At a confused noise he said, “Like…are we both sleeping on this bed?”
Sebastian raised a brow even though the boy couldn’t see it. “It is big enough. Unless you wish to sleep on the rug.” He grinned at the insulted look thrown his way. “Then we both sleep on the bed. I said no carnal earlier and it remains true.”
Ciel sighed and nodded, sitting up. “yeah…so, what about clothes for me? I can’t just only stay in these ones.”
The raven tilted his head in thought. “Technically you can. You can wash them in the stream.” When he sensed an argument he raised a hand, loving that the boy stayed silent. “You either wear those clothes or no clothes. Does not matter to me.”
Yup. This Fae was definitely a sadist. “Well I’m going to sleep. Those three wore me out.” Without waiting for a response he crawled into the bed and under the covers. He was facing away from the fire, enjoying looking at the beautiful wall through half shut eyes. A few minutes later after Sebastian thought the boy had drifted off a soft sleepy voice said, “Thank you for showing me the forest Sebastian….” And a few seconds later soft snores could be heard.
Sebastian chuckled and looked at the boy he had taken. “Mei Rin was right. Very cute.”
