Chapter Summary: In this chapter, we read a summary of young Izuku’s life in a female world, and how he gains an idea where he wants to be the first male hero in the world and a way to fulfil it.
Chapter One…
(Izuku Midoriya.)
In this chapter, we’ll see the life of a teen known as Izuku Midoriya, someone who wants to become the first male hero.
It all began when Izuku first learned and understand what heroes were at the age of four when like most children became a fan of them. So much that although he was a male and didn’t have a quirk, like some children of their age, he too wanted to become a hero. But like all parents who had sons who want to be heroes, Izuku’s parents told their son that he couldn’t become a hero. As only those with quirks can be heroes, and seeing how their son was a female, he could never dream of getting a quirk.
His father told him that the best he could hope to become was a vigilante, but warned his son that this isn’t the best plan. Not only was being a vigilante against the law, although most heroes give a blind eye to this as long as he doesn’t do too much damage or piss off a hero, it can also be difficult. Needing a lot of money or backing of someone, becoming strong, and a lot of work too, not as much as a real hero but still a lot of work.
Where, if you were a hero, you would have backing from schools like U.A, and have help from the government and Hero Agencies. Sure training was harder, but to deal with those with super-strong quirks, it was needed. It was something those without quirks couldn’t handle, which is why many of them died trying to defeat.
Izuku knew all this, but still, he wanted to try to become the first male hero. Sure, he might not make it, but it was his only hope to help others. Being a vigilante was something that he ruled out, although they do help people, they were considered criminals if they did too much damage or upset the wrong hero. This is why young Izuku wanted to be a hero, to help those who need without the fear of being fined or jailed.
As Izuku grew older, he knew that if he wanted to be heroes, he needed to work harder than anyone else, harder than other heroes wanting to be heroes too. He needed to know as much as he could about quirks so that when he faced them, he knew what to expect, and how to handle them. Because of this, he started to write notes on the heroes and villains that he saw, to give himself a basic idea of what sort of quirks he could be facing. Not only did he write about quirks, but the different fighting styles, so he had a rough idea of how these heroes and villains fight and if possible, he wanted to try them out himself.
When he was eight, Izuku began to build up his strength and stamina. He knew if he wanted to be a hero, he would need to work out, so he would have what it takes to fight a villain. The main problem was that he wasn’t sure what fighting style to use yet, as each villain would be different and for someone without a quirk, it would be hard and so he had to think carefully.
It didn’t help with how he was treated. Whilst he had gotten stronger, it didn’t mean that his confidence got any better. Izuku honestly could say that getting stronger didn’t mean your confidence and self-esteem would get any better, anyone who says otherwise, Izuku would tell them bullshit. Not when you have people who bully you still. He had people verbal bullying him, and a few physical bullying him.
His biggest bully was his former best friend Katsumi Bakugou, or as he called her Kacchan. At first, things were fine, but when she was four and got her quirk, Explosion, she began to bully those she thought were weak and unworthy to be heroes. For the most part, Katsumi left the males alone, as she thought that they were unworthy of her time, beneath her, seeing how they had no power and so she didn’t bother with them unless they crossed her in some form. To her, she was better than men.
But when Izuku told his friend that he wanted to be the first male hero, she laughed at him, saying that he would never be a hero, as all men were weak and powerless to be heroes. Even those who played vigilantes, most of the males would end up dying in a few years, as they end up believing that they were strong enough to fight the more powerful villains when in fact they weren't.
Since then, Katsumi and her friend began to pick on him and make fun of him for wanting to be a hero. Saying that he would never make it as a hero, not even as a vigilante. Katsumi even used her quirk on him from time to time
It wasn’t just Katsumi and her friends that made fun of him and picked on him, it was also his classmates. When he was eight, his teacher asked the students what they wanted to be when they grew up. As expected, most of the females wanted to be heroes, whilst the boys wanted to be firefighters or police officers. But when it was his time to say what he wanted to be, he was honest and said he wanted to be the first male hero.
Here the teacher and the students laughed at him, saying it was impossible, that only females would ever become a hero, as they had quirks and so had the strength to do so. The teacher pointed out to Izuku that if he wanted to help others, he should either be an emergency worker or become a support designer to create items for heroes. That as a male, he had no hope of becoming a hero.
Izuku tried to point out that Power Loader, whilst having a quirk, wears a mechanical exoskeleton suit to help her fight the stronger villains. So he was starting to believe that if she could use an exoskeleton suit to fight villains and help people, why couldn’t he or another man do the same thing. But the teacher and the students laughed at him, saying that it would never work, as he needed a quirk to be a hero.
Izuku didn’t believe it though, as he thought about Power Loader’s exoskeleton suit, he believed that if it was designed properly and had armour attached to it, he could become a hero with such a suit. But he knew that, unless he find someone willing to design and create a suit for him, he would have to wait until he passes the U.A’s Entrance Exam. As the school would create the hero’s costume for them once they enter the school. So, as long as Izuku was strong enough to pass the Entrance Exam, he could have the school create the suit for him.
For the time being, he would get stronger and learn some basic fighting moves, so that he could pass the Entrance Exam. Once that happens and gets his suit, he could find his own fighting style with his suit.
Izuku found it amazing that by gaining muscles, women would find him hot and interesting. But the moment that they found out that he wanted to be a hero, they wanted nothing to do with him and began to make fun of him. To be honest, Izuku had a dark mood come over him, where he had secret desires to make them pay. For making fun of him and bullying him.
If it wasn’t for wanting to prove everyone wrong, he would have asked his parents if they could move to Otoko Island. At least there, no one would bully or tease him for his dream to be a hero. In fact, they would help him out. Sure as a vigilante, but at least he could be helping people. He could understand why some men would want to move to this island if men were treated the same way as he has been.
But Izuku’s dream of owning a mechanical exoskeleton came true by his thirteenth birthday, where his father give him one as his birthday gift. It wasn’t as big and bulky as Power Loaders, instead, it was designed the way Izuku wanted, slimmer and built around his body.
You see, Hisashi Midoriya was one of the Head of the Department for Designs at one of the Detnerat buildings, where he helped design new costumes and weapons for the heroes. It took him a lot of hard work to get to where he was now, but thanks to his hard work and the connections that he built over the years, the father was now able to help his son get one step closer to his dream in becoming a hero.
Although Hisashi was unhappy that he could only get his son the outer exoskeleton suit and not get it armoured, his son was happy with the gift. It gave him a better chance of getting into U.A High, where he could get the armour and other items for the suit. Izuku was even happy that the pilot part of the suit was slightly bigger than he would have liked, as he was still growing and so he didn’t need to replace the armour any time soon.
Izuku had big dreams for his new suit, dreams he knew might not come true. As whilst searching for ideas for upgrades to his suit, he came upon an old pre-quirk cartoon called Centurions, where the characters from the show had exoskeleton-like suits, where each suit could be upgraded/transformed into different forms depending on what the user needed.
One suit was designed for land rescue, whilst another suit was designed for water rescue and another was for air rescue.
Unfortunately, whilst he had a few armour designs, Izuku didn’t know if the technology was around for the designs to be built. Another problem was that he wasn’t sure how to get the designs to him, and teleportation as far as he knew hadn’t been designed yet, so even if he could make the armour designs, he had to think about how to get them to him when he needed them.
Whatever the case, the armour design of his suit could wait for now, as right now he had to learn how to use the suit, to see what he can and cannot do in it as it is now. It was Izuku’s hope that if all things go well, he could show that anyone could be a hero, male, female, someone, with a quirk or someone Quirkless.
As Izuku was training in secret, not wanting people to know about the suit in case they might destroy it should they learn his plan, he began to wonder why hadn’t people hadn’t thought of this idea before. Izuku learned that they used mechanical exoskeleton suits for construction building, so, why couldn’t they use exoskeleton suits for hero work? All they had to do was to add armour and a few other pieces of equipment to the suit, and it could be used for rescue work. So, why didn’t those from Otoko Island use the idea to try and become heroes
Was it the law or they actually didn’t think of the idea for whatever reason, in two years' time, Izuku was going to enter U.A and show what a male could do. And that anyone could become a hero.
Unfortunately, Izuku’s father died a few months after giving Izuku his new suit.
Then over a year later, when their school was about to go on for their spring vacation and the end of the school year, things changed for young Izuku. During school, he got teased again and bullied when the teacher let slip that he wanted to go to U.A now that the rules forbidding males and those who were Quirkless from entering the hero course were gone. Then at the end of the day, Katsumi burnt one of his notebooks and threw it out of the window, she went on and told Izuku that he would never be a hero, that if he did want to be one, he should kill himself and hope that in the next life he would be reborn as a female and with a quirk.
This pissed Izuku off. Although he had grown taller and stronger over the years, the fourteen-year-old didn’t have the self-esteem nor the confidence to stand up to the girl. Not after years of being belittled and bullied. So he just tamely stood back, not putting a fight up. Once Katsumi and her friends left, he left to get his notebook from the pond that it land in before he made his way home.
But, as he was making his way home though, he was attacked by a Sludge Villain who wanted to take control of his body, so that she could escape someone. Thankfully though, he was saved by All Might. Upon seeing his favourite hero, Izuku wanted to ask for her autograph and an important question. So just as she was about to leave, Izuku grabbed her leg without thinking.
When they landed on top of a tall building, Izuku learned a shocking truth about All Might. The image that they all knew wasn’t her true form. She was pretty, with long beautiful golden blonde hair, with a slender, perfectly proportional body, she had D Cup breasts. Not like her tall sexy muscular body, where she had E Cup breasts.
All Might informed him Izuku her name was Tokinori Yagi and that this form was her true one, and the one that everyone normally saw was what she put on. She was someone who was powerful and brave, and even at a young age, she knew people suspected her to have this kind of body, and so this was what she showed thanks to years of training her body to do so.
She also let on after she coughed up some blood, that she wasn’t as healthy as she once was. As about five years ago, she fought a supervillain, a fight that she took painfully hard to hide from the world, as she didn’t want to destroy the image that she created for years. An image that she could fight anyone and anything and win with a smile. If she showed people this form, people would lose faith in her and that was something she didn’t want.
Izuku was shocked to hear such a story, he wasn't sure what to think or say, he didn't think there was anything. So, instead, he asked her as she was leaving, if someone like him, a male without a quirk could become a hero with only an armoured exoskeleton suit.
All Might told the boy that she would like to say yes, but the truth was she didn’t know. The idea behind it was interesting enough, but from her own experience, it might be too dangerous for him. Whilst he might be able to deal with some of the basic villains, she was worried about the more powerful villains out there. Like with the Spartans, the vigilante group from Otoko Island, had problems with dealing with the more powerful Quirk users and need backup from other Spartans or/and from heroes, even though they had powerful armour and weapons. A lot of the time when facing a powerful villain, they either end up badly injured and giving up being a vigilante because they were so badly injured or they could be killed.
To prove her point, she raised her shirt up to reveal a large bodily scar on her abdomen. This was to show young Izuku, that even though she was the most powerful hero in Japan, maybe the world, there was someone more powerful than her, to be able to injure her.
So she was worried that if someone didn’t have a decent quirk to defend themselves with, they couldn’t really be a hero. So, even if Izuku had an armoured exoskeleton suit, All Might didn’t think that he would last for long. But still, she wished him luck but warns him that without a quirk, it’ll be hard and he might not make it. But she hoped that he would prove her wrong and he could make it. And with that, she left with Izuku thinking over what his idol told him.
After this, Izuku walked around town before going home to think about what his idol told him. That it was too dangerous for someone like him to be a hero, as even the Spartans had problems with villains, either ending up injured bad enough to stop them from being a vigilante or killed and was worried it might happen to him. But at the same time, she hoped that Izuku could prove her wrong and that his idea of using an exoskeleton suit could make him into the hero he wanted. This thought made Izuku think hard about what to do with his exoskeleton suit, how to upgrade it and how to make it so it can make him the first male hero.
But as he was going through town, he heard that another Sludge Villain had appeared and that she was holding a girl hostage and the heroes were trying to save her. Wanting to see what was going on, Izuku went to see, only to find the Sludge Villain monster was the same one as All Might captured earlier. Izuku realized that when he grabbed onto All Might’s leg earlier, he must of let the bottles that had the villain drop out of the hero’s pocket somehow which freed the villain.
Izuku felt bad at this, as he realized that he was more than likely the reason that this villain had escaped. He felt even worse when he found out that the villain’s hostage was none other than Katsumi. He couldn’t believe it, whilst they might not be friends like they used to be, he still cared about her in his own way and was upset to see her like this. He knew what it was like to be trapped by this villain, how hard it was to breathe, the villain nearly killed him before.
Upon seeing the so-called heroes, Kamui Woods, Death Arms, Backdraft and Mt. Lady, just stood there, unable to do anything and the Sludge Villain was making Katsumi use her powers, making it hard for them to get close. Instead of helping Katsumi, they decided to contain the fire that Katsumi was creating and wait for a hero with the right power to appear so that they could deal with the villain.
Izuku couldn’t believe it, instead of using all of their quirks to find a way to free Katsumi and in doing so, stoping the fires from spreading, the heroes were only containing the fire and keeping people away. It made no sense to the young boy.
Izuku wasn’t sure what to do, seeing how he had no power to help his former friend. He wanted to help her, but at the same time, he knew that if he tried with his suit, he would be injured if he was lucky, if he wasn’t, he could have been killed.
But before he could decide what to do, he heard Katsumi scream out to the heroes for help and not getting any, before he knew it, his feet began to move before his mind could begin to think of a plan.
As he got to the Sludge Villain, he began to grab hold of the slime and tried to pull it off Katsumi so that she could breathe, - one price of slime at a time. After a few seconds of Izuku trying to do this, everyone heard a familiar voice of All Might cry out “Detroit Smash!” Then the villain’s body was splattered all over the place, freeing Katsumi.
Just then, the police arrived to help capture the Sludge Villain before it reformed and try to escape again. But as the police did this a few heroes informed Katsumi how much they liked her quirk and how she could be a great hero one day, whilst the other heroes told Izuku off for doing what he did. Because as a male, he didn’t have a quirk and could have been killed by the villain.
Izuku, being upset that his former friend was almost killed, meekly told them that at least he tried something, unlike them who stood there and did nothing. Izuku told them as heroes, they should have tried to do something, anything, to save Katsum. Because, by the time a hero with the right quirk arrived, she could have been killed. This shut the heroes up, looking guilty at this, it was bad enough that they did nothing, but to be told off by a male with no power, was even worse for them.
This gave All Might the time to pull Izuku away and jumped away before anything else could be said, or the reporter could intervene. Here, All Might gave a shocking surprise, first, she thanked him, as if he hadn’t run in to save the girl, she would be standing there, doing nothing. But seeing him, a male without any sort of powers, who could have died but ran in to save someone's life, she knew she couldn’t stand there and so helped out.
Izuku tried to explain that if it wasn’t for him, it wouldn’t have happened. But All Might said that it didn’t matter, as she was to blame too, if she had been taking better notice of things, she would have realized what had happened. Not only that, but she had to thank him, as his action inspired her to act.
Then when she asked why he helped, knowing that he could get hurt or even die, Izuku admitted that at first, he wasn’t going to do so. Not that he didn’t want to, as he did, but if the heroes there couldn’t do anything what could someone like him do? It wasn’t until he heard Katsumi call out for help, that’s when he acted. His body moved before he could think about what to do and decided to help his old friend.
All Might smiled at this as she told him how stories of great heroes began, how most of them began with the heroes moving on their own before they had the chance to think, almost like their bodies were moving on their own. And that day, All Might was thankful to see that happen in Izuku. She believed that even without being female and with a quirk, he could become a great hero.
She then went on to explain that she had been looking for a successor seeing how thanks to her injuries, she would have to retire and give up being a hero in at least a few years, maybe more if she was lucky. But before that, she wanted to find a successor, someone she could train to take her place when she retired. Thanks to what she had seen that day, him risking his life to protect someone, she knew that although he was a male and without powers, she wanted him to be her successor.
Izuku was shocked to hear this, that someone like All Might wanted him, a male and without powers, to be her successor. What was more surprising was what All Might told him next. And that was he too could have a quirk, not any old quirk either, but her own quirk. All Might explained the truth about her quirk, One For All, and how it can be passed down from person to person, each time making the quirk stronger. That she was once Quirkless until she gained One For All, that she was the 13th holder of the quirk. She explained that some of the past users had quirks and some were Quirkless, in fact, she was told that those who were Quirkless could handle the power better than most. Apart from one Quirk User, the others aged faster than normal. But that was just what she heard, as the history of One For All was lost, so nothing was for sure.
Izuku was amazed and shocked at this story, he had never heard of such a quirk before, one that can be passed down from user to user. He felt honoured to receive the quirk, he had always wanted to have one. But All Might warned him though, that as the first male user of the quirk, he should be very careful, as many would want to know how a male was able to get a quirk in the first place. So many people would be after him, to experiment on him to find the truth of him having a quirk. Especially those on Otoko Island, who have been researching ways for men to gain quirks. So, until he had mastered the quirk, it would be better if he went along with his idea of using his exoskeleton suit to become the first male hero, only using One For All when he had no other option.
Upon learning all this, All Might asked if he still wanted to have One For All, knowing the risks that came with it. Izuku, who always wanted to be a hero, and felt honoured to have such a quirk, still agreed to have One For All.
Although he agreed to have the One For All, because of how long she had it and how long it has been around, All Might wanted Izuku to build up his body even more than he has already. As if his body wasn’t strong enough for it, he could be killed, his body explodes if he was unlucky.
So for the next few months, All Might had Izuku clean up Takoba Municipal Beach Park, which had become a trash heap over the years. Either with people throwing their rubbish on the beach or with it coming from the sea. All Might’s idea was for Izuku to train here for two reasons, the first was that by removing all of the junk here, he would be using muscles that he would not normally use, so make it easier for Izuku to use One For All. The other reason was that this would be his first act as a hero, to show him that not all hero work was to fight villains and rescue people.
All Might thought that it would take Izuku at least ten months to clear the beach, and would only leave a day or so of training with One For All before the Entrance Exam for U.A. It wasn’t ideal, All Might knew this, but she had no other option if Izuku wanted to go to U.A. But to All Might’s surprise though, Izuku was able to clear the beach in eight months instead. Which made All Might happy, as it would give them enough time to train with One For All.
During the next two months, two things happened for Izuku. The first is that thanks to All Might’s connections to Cybertek Corporation and Geonosis Tech, Izuku was able to upgrade his exoskeleton suit. He now had some basic armour made from a new gold-titanium alloy. The old gold-titanium alloy was strong enough, but the researcher created a tougher version of the alloy and wanted to test it, which is why after agreeing to sign a non-disclosure agreement and learning about Izuku having some kind of strength quirk, they were eager to help Izuku. They wanted to create the toughest alloy possible so that heroes can have the strongest possible costume out there. So having someone with some sort of Strength Quirk, with untapped potential, was something they couldn't let slip by.
As whilst getting stronger, they too would have to work on making the alloy stronger, and if that doesn’t work, make new alloy to make the armour for the boy’s suit stronger. Not only would they be able to create the armour for the suit, but other items to help the boy, making sure that he didn’t hurt or break his body, some sort of shock absorption items.
Now, other than armour and gear to make the armour work the way Izuku wanted, Cybertek Corporation and Geonosis Tech helped with creating a few weapons and a helmet with a hub. The weapons were two swords, sure, he was planning to use his fist and feet to fight, but sometimes it’s not always safe to do so, as the villains would have weapons too. So he decided to have weapons too. He also had them design a hand blast weapon which shoots out energy from the palms of his hands. He could shoot ten shots before needing to wait for a bit to recharge.
As for the hub, it gave Izuku some basic information about his surroundings, so with luck, it could warn the young boy of the dangers he was in. Upon hearing this and a few ideas that Izuku wanted to add to the hub, All Might put her own idea in.
When he starts U.A, Izuku should find some people in the Support Course to help him. Find someone who can sit behind a computer and keep an eye on all of the information coming from the hub. As the way All Might saw it, there would be too much information for Izuku to take in as well as trying to fight and rescue people, having someone else keeping track of this would make things easier for Izuku.
Not only would he need someone to keep an eye on the computer and the information from the hub, but need one or two people to help fix the armour when damaged. Sure they could send it to Cybertek Corporation or Geonosis Tech to get the armour repaired, but it would take time and would be without his armour for training. So, unless it needs a full repair, it would be best to have a few people from the Support Course fix the small problems, and anything bigger, send it to Cybertek Corporation or Geonosis Tech. They could also help with designing new items for the suit.
Cybertek Corporation and Geonosis Tech admitted that they hoped that they were the only ones handling the suit, but they also understood why All Might suggested that a few Support Course students should deal with the minor damages and help with new designs. So, they had no problem with this.
As Izuku thought about this, he realized more and more how much this idea was a good one. The road ahead in becoming the first male hero wasn’t going to be an easy one, many people would be in his way. Like some high-powered females didn’t want to give men power back, as they heard the stories of how men treated women in the past and they didn’t want to go back to that time. Or those who want to learn about how he got this new quirk of his, they would either want to try and find a way so that other males could get quirks, or they would want to find out how he got the quirk so as to prevent other men from getting one.
Although he would prefer not to put others in danger, and do this on his own, he realized that there was just so much he could do. Especially as All Might point out, there would be too much information to deal with when he was using the hub in his helmet. He couldn’t keep track of that and fight. So having people to help him would be useful. Especially if he wanted to be a top hero.
All Might's idea would help him here and allow him to save more people than any other hero, as well as allowing him to stop as many villains as he could. So, he would have to think carefully about who he would want to be on his team, but he had to wait until he got into U.A to meet the students of the Support Course before deciding.
The truth was that Cybertek Corporation and Geonosis Tech had a few ideas they wanted to use for Izuku's suit, but they wanted to see what Izuku can do and the type of Hero he was going to be. As if they made the suit too light or heavy, it could make things hard for Izuku, so they would need to test things out and alter things as they came.
Either way, the next thing that happened in these two months was that Izuku learned a new skill which he called One For All: Full Cowling or just Full Cowling for short.
You see, when Izuku first activated One For All, it got messy. The female warned him that she had no idea how the quirk would work for him, as for her, she had no problems with it, she could use it at once. It was like the quirk was designed for her, all she had to do was learn how to fight with the quirk. But for him, although Izuku had trained his body, because of how powerful the quirk had now become, he could still get hurt. So they would have to take it easy.
But before that, they needed to know how much Izuku could handle of One For All, and so, All Might asked Izuku to try and summon what he thought was at least half of the quirk's power. But as he did, Izuku’s body broke, his bones and muscles began to break apart, so All Might stopped the boy and asked if that was even half of its power, which Izuku admitted it wasn’t. If he had to guess, he would have to say it was twenty percent of the quirk’s power.
Upon hearing this, All Might was grateful that they found this out now and not later, like during the Entrance Exam. As if Izuku used his full power then, he could have damaged his body even more. Right now, he had a few broken bones and his muscles are slightly damaged, something that was fixed by Recovery Girl when All Might called in a favour.
Recovery Girl made All Might promise that she wouldn’t let the boy do too much damage to his body, as she didn’t want to keep fixing him should he go overboard like all men do when showing off their powers. All Might told the old lady that she hoped it was a one-time thing, as they did this to see how much the boy could handle so that they knew where to train. But at the same time, she couldn’t promise Recovery Girl that Izuku wouldn’t damage himself again badly, as with the quirk, they were learning just how much Izuku could really use, so, he might damage himself more over the years as Izuku learned to master One For All.
The only thing All Might could promise was that she would try and make sure Izuku was careful and not push him too much. Recovery Girl wasn’t happy about this but knew it was the best she would get from this. As they were on new ground and didn’t know what would happen. All Recovery Girl could do was prepare for the worse and hope that things turn out okay and she wouldn’t have to see Izuku too often.
With Izuku getting injured came with two problems:
1) Izuku's mother. First, she was shocked to learn that All Might was training her son to become a hero. She didn’t know the full truth, just that All Might saw potential in her son and decided that she would help him out and had been training him for the last few months. The reason that Inko didn’t find out sooner about her son and All Might, was that All Might wanted to keep it a secret for now. As many people wouldn’t like the idea of a male hero and so wanted to train Izuku a bit before he revealed himself to the world. This was something Inko was thankful for a d was glad that the Pro Hero was training her to defend himself before revealing that her son was going to U.A to train as a hero.
As for the quirk, that was where they had to lie to Inko. The way they explained about the quirk was that they were training when all of a sudden when Izuku's new quirk appeared and did the injuries that he had. When Inko asked what this would mean, All Might admitted that this is all new to her, and she had no idea how to train her son from this point on, seeing how this is the first time that a male gained a quirk. Inko asked if it was possible if Izuku could give up the training and the idea of being a hero.
All Might admitted that Izuku could if he wanted, but from the time they spent in the last few months together, she didn’t think he gave up the dream of becoming a hero. As for training, All Might advised against it, he had just gotten it and if he didn’t train with it, to control even the basics of his new powers, it’s highly possible that Izuku could hurt or worse, kill himself. So it would be for the best to kill two birds with one stone: help him train his new powers and at the same time help him train to become the hero he wanted to be.
As much as Inko hated it, hearing that if her son didn't train his new quirk he might accidentally hurt or kill himself, she was forced to agree with continuing with the training. But she asked, could All Might promise that her son wouldn’t get hurt so bad in the future, as she didn’t like the idea of seeing her son so often. Sadly, All Might said she couldn’t promise anything, as the training would be harsh not only with her but those at U.A. so accidents would happen, so she should expect her son to get hurt often at U.A should he get in or get into any hero school. It’s not like he wouldn’t get hurt often when he becomes a hero, as he would, it was part of being a hero. They would get hurt so that others wouldn't or to save people, to be a true hero, you can't help but get hurt often.
Inko cried when hearing this, but after thinking about it, she realized that All Might was right. No matter what, her son needs training so as not to hurt himself. But she was thankful when All Might told her that to help with less damage to her son, she would try and integrate a few ideas into her son’s armour to try to absorb the damage done to her son. All Might admit that whilst most of the damage might be avoided, she also admitted that until Izuku learned to master his new quirk, there might be times when he’ll accidentally hurt himself should he overwork himself.
All Might knew that Inko didn’t like the idea, but she still allowed her son to train.
2) The second problem was how to train Izuku. Unlike her, who was able to use her power more or less right away without any damage, Izuku on the other hand wasn’t able to do this. Whilst not surprising seeing how powerful the quirk had become, it meant that she wasn’t able to train her the same way as she was trained.
She was new to teaching herself, and whilst she had the basics down and she got her teaching licence, she was still new to all this. Like teaching the basics of using their quirks was something new to her. This is why she was going to teach at U.A as a Battle Teacher, to teach others what she learnt over the years.
Now, as she thought about who could help her with the young boy hero, she could only think of one person, her old teacher, Sorahi Torino or by her hero name: Gran Torino. Gran Torino helped her train with learning to fight with her powers when she was younger:
The problem is that she didn’t want Izuku to go through the same training that she went with Gran Torino, as it was a nightmare, and her old teacher didn’t know how to hold back. All Might still have nightmares of her training. But the thing was, Gran Torino was the best friend of her former master and the person who had One For All before her, Nana Shimura, so knew more about the quirk than she did and how to help someone train someone in it.
So, she could be the only person she knew of that could help Izuku master One For All.
With no other options about this, All Might called her old teacher and told her about Izuku and how she wanted her help to teach him. During that time Gran Torino gave All Might an earful for giving One For All to a male, saying that she was only asking for trouble.
As when it came to power, men couldn’t be trusted with power, as it corrupted them. But All Might defended her choice, saying that Izuku wasn’t like the rest of the men and she wasn’t going to change her mind. But she admitted that she needed her help, as she had no idea how to train Izuku seeing how his body isn’t adapted to One For All’s power like she was.
It was only after a long hour's talk that Gran Torino agreed to train Izuku, but she warned All Might that she won’t take it easy on the boy. She wants to make sure that Izuku is ready for what is to come, and hopefully make sure that he doesn’t get corrupted by the power of One For All.
The reason that Gran Torino had problems with Izuku having One For All was because of the men from Otoko Island and the Spartans. She had bad dealings with them in the past. You see when she first started out as a hero in her thirties. She didn’t want to be a hero, but she did so as a favour for her friend, who wanted her to teach All Might to fight and the best way was to become a hero and teach him, seeing how the laws about quirk use had become a lot tougher. So as not to break the law, he become a hero and become a homeroom at U.A High where Toshinori Yagi was going to learn about becoming a hero.
Now, she only spent three years at U.A so she could have an easier time training All Might, once she left U.A so did Gran Torino. Unfortunately, not long of All Might leaving U.A, their friend Nana was killed by a supervillain who was after One For All. After the death of Nana, Gran Torino sent All Might to the U.S for his safety and to help him to become stronger, so that she could face the supervillain one day and defeat her.
Whilst All Might was in the U.S, Gran Torino had a few run-ins with a rogue group of men and Spartans from Otoko Island.
Now, whilst she was married and had a daughter, she was uneasy about men from the stories that her grandmother told her. But, until the events with the men of Otoko Island, she gave men a chance. But then all that changed. The Spartans killed her husband and kidnapped her daughter and other girls to show the world that women should be beneath men, following their orders.
Gran Torino and a few other heroes were able to save the girls from the Spartans, but not before they were raped, to teach them their place, and some of them were killed. Out of rage, the women killed most of the men, only capturing a few men for questioning. Out of the heroes, Gran Torino was one of the few women who would gain a new hatred for men, never trusting them again, and believing that they couldn’t be trusted with power. As her daughter was one who was raped and died not long after being freed from these men.
Because of this hatred for men, she didn’t trust young Midoriya, fearing that he would turn out like the Spartans who captured her daughter and killed her husband.
Now, Izuku didn’t learn any of this, as Gran Torino didn’t talk to him other than when in training, but it was easy to know that she hated him and men with the way she looked and treated him. During the two months of training with Gran Torino, Izuku learned why All Might look frightened when she explained that her old teacher would be teaching him. The training was a total nightmare, worse than a nightmare… Izuku believe that although All Might’s training might have been bad, he believed that he had it even worse with Gran Torino's hatred for men.
But still, even if it was a nightmare, it was totally worth it though as he learned a new ability that he called Full Cowling.
For the first week of training with One For All, Izuku was using the One For All as if it was a special move, a one-shot skill, and in doing so, damaging his body in the process. But after the week of training, and showing no progress, Gran Torino warned Izuku that if he continues like this, she'll force him to give One For All to someone else. She knew that it can only be given to someone else by his own free will, so he would train him until he was willing to give the quirk to someone more suited to become a hero.
Whilst Izuku was concerned about this, seeing how bad the training was already, he wasn’t about to give up without a fight. He wanted to prove to her that not all men were like the ones she knew of, that he was different. So whilst training got harder so that he would be willing to give up the power to someone more suited for the quirk, Izuku tried to think of ways to use One For All without getting hurt. Then one day, he overheard All Might and Gran Torino about All Might not cooking food properly, how she only cooked it partly and not all over in the microwave. As parts were hot, whilst the rest of it was cold.
Upon hearing this conversation, it was like a lightbulb moment for Izuku. He realize that he was the food, he was only using part of One For All in one area of his body, instead of using it all at the same time. So, he began to spread the power across his body evenly slowly until it began to hurt and then stop. At most, when standing and not moving, Izuku guessed that he could use up to around 8% to 10%, but if he moved, his body would begin to hurt a lot. He believed that if he tried to do too much, his bones and muscles would break and tire.
But at 5%, he was able to move with trouble, in addition to reducing the strain caused by One For All, this new technique gives Izuku a much wider variety of options in combat. Since the power is spread throughout his whole body, he doesn't need to waste time re-channelling the power from one body part to another. He called this technique Full Cowling.
Izuku found that by using Full Cowling, he had much greater reflexes, manoeuvrability, and enhanced strength. His increased mobility allows him to scale buildings with ease and clear large jumps. Izuku also found that when he activates Full Cowling, red, vein-like lines course throughout his body that coincides with the energy flowing through him. When fully active, his body and eyes start to glow with a green, bio-electric aura. Like green lightning.
And as much as Gran Torino was against the idea of a male using this power, she was impressed that Izuku could find a way to use the quirk without hurting himself in such a short time, and so she began to teach the young man how to propel himself through the air using the same style of movement. Hoping beyond hope, that this young man would prove her wrong, that some men could be trusted with power. This lasted until a few days before the Entrance Exams for U.A, where Izuku went home and rested for the exam.
