Chapter 20

Though he’d been healed of his broken ribs and illness, it had been a couple days before Wally found the energy to get out of bed by himself. Nimh had been by his side the whole time, getting the boy everything he needed (and a few things he most likely didn’t). Kedri was amused by the whole ordeal; he’d never thought of Nimh as doting.

One of the unrequested items was a dark green coat (similar to Nimh’s in style) with white patterns sewn onto it. He’d insisted this one wasn’t a complete waste of money that Wally really didn’t need, as it could get very cold flying around on a Dragonite at break-neck speed. Kedri conceded that point.

At least it had been the last of the unusual ‘gifts’.

A shuffling sound at the kitchen doorway caught the attention of the two older trainers. “You’re up!” Nimh yelped, jumping up out of his chair.

Wally smiled. “Yes, I am.” But as he took another step forward he stumbled; Nimh was quick to catch him. The boy smiled sheepishly. “Guess I’m not a hundred percent better yet...”

“Nonsense.” Kedri argued as Nimh helped his friend to a chair. “You’ve been bedridden for nearly two weeks, your legs just need some exercise and you’ll be as good as new.” Wally nodded, happily munching on the egg and cheese sandwich set before him.

They stayed for another week. Wally said he wanted to make sure he was up to moving around again, but Nimh wasn’t so sure about that. The boy had been training hard at Kedri’s gym, taking the place of one of the regular gym trainers.

It turned out Nimh’s suspicions were correct. Wally ended up challenging Kedri, refusing to leave without a badge from him. The boy turned out to be one of the most difficult trainers he’d faced since becoming the Gym Leader; right after Nimh. It had been a close match. Kedri grinned as he recalled his last Pokémon. “Well Wally, seems you’ve earned yourself the Storm Badge.”

Said trainer was bouncing giddily, basking in his latest victory. Kedri walked over to him, pulling the dime-sized pin out of his shirt pocket and holding it out to the boy. “You should be proud of yourself.” He congratulated as Wally pinned the badge onto the lapel of the new jacket Nimh had bought him. “There are an incredible few who receive that badge; there are an incredible few who deserve it. And you, Wally, are one of those few.”

“Of course, the League is always yelling at him for it. Only a handful of trainers can get into the Indigo League because of his obstinance.” Nimh snickered, mock glaring at his friend.

“I most certainly am not obstinate.”

“Yeah you are. Stubborn too.”

Wally giggled as the two continued bickering, petting his Gardevoir and cooing soft praises to it.

“Well Wally, are you ready to start a new adventure?” Nimh finally asked after a few minutes. The green-haired boy nodded, putting Gardevoir back into her Pokéball.

“Let’s go!”

And... The End. n.n’

Sorry it took so long to get this out, I couldn't figure out how to end it (I'm still not too happy with it) and there were a few other things that demanded my attention. Anyway, there it is.
