Disclaimer:
I do not own Death Note, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Author's Note
This is the first time that I've written any fan fiction (and the first time that I've written sex scenes), so I hope it was alright. In many ways, it doesn't matter, because the writing of it has been enough in and of itself. Cathartic and invigorating all at the same time.
I have plans for more stories, but this one was largely a place to test out the genre. I wanted to see if I COULD write about the divine Matt and Mello. At first, I thought I had Matt, but struggled with Mello. It was so difficult not to carricature him as this violent, chocolate eating, leather-clad genius (which, of course, he is) with no other substance.
I'm personally a chain-smoker with an addiction to Runescape, whose friends despair of contacting when I'm absorbed. I've had my fair share of things thrown at me just to make me pay attention; I've worn out many people's patience, with random precision, simply because I got distracted for too long elsewhere. I could see where Matt was coming from. The tricky bit came with writing a Matt who wasn't behaving as he should be, but playing it straight was way too easy. :p
Mid-way through, I returned to the original Anime and Manga, concentrating on Mello and making mental notes. He was a different person to the man hitherto in my head. I noted, with surprise, something that I hadn't before. It was he who actually elected Near as L's successor, in his small speech before leaving Wammy's House.
The next day, I found myself performing, unquestioning, yet another task, which my Saggitarian friend had barked from the corner. I'm the teflon one and she's the firebrand. Suddenly, I realized what I was living here and started watching her. Between that and the Mello notes, I think I'd 'got' him a little better by the end of the story.
So that's it, but for some proofreading from chapter 9 onwards, I'm finished here. I've watched with a little smile the number of hits that this story has received (133 at the time of writing on June 9th 2008). I figured that the lack of reviews means that I'm probably not messing up too badly, as no-one's virtually pwning me for misrepresenting Mello or Matt nor bludgeoning to death the genre.
Nice one.
