"Pardon, Viper?"
Violet eyes only just visible beneath the woman's black cap stared at Mukuro, as stoic as ever. Her hands were folded neatly in her lap as she sat in the activity room with her cousin and his young shadow, with a dog she wasn't familiar with laying beneath their feet at the bottom of the black leather couch. She didn't mind Fran leaning over them to play with her indigo locks; she was focused on the conversation she was having with the heterochromatic-eyed man. "I said Bel's medication has been changed, and he's starting to go home with the Millefiore staff." The woman frowned ever-so-slightly as Fran accidentally tugged on her hair, but she didn't say anything; the boy hadn't meant to hurt her after all. "They're trying to rehabilitate him as best they can so he can be let out of his room like the rest of us.""Are they really allowed to be taking a patient such as Belphewhore out of the facility?" Heterochromatic eyes stared in wonder, trying to understand how Hibari could have ever allowed this; it had been hard enough for Tsuna to get permission to bring he and Fran home each night, but Belphegor... "They're understaffed with the two Vongola out of action, and it's the best they can do to try and take care of him; there's not enough time during their shifts to help everyone, so they've volunteered to work off the clock with him." Mammon shifted uncomfortably as Fran fell onto her lap, not used to anyone but Bel and Mukuro being so close to her. "They know how badly he needs help, and are trying their best to give it to him." "I see." Reaching out, Mukuro pulled Fran back, steadying the boy. He smiled before he patted teal hair in an affectionate manner, his eyes never leaving the long-haired woman. "But what if he attacks them?" "That's a risk they're willing to take; they want nothing more than to be able to help him.""Can..." Fran looked away as two sets of eyes fixed on him. He licked his lips before he continued on, whispering. "...Can we keep going back to... to Tsuna's...? It's... quiet there..." "Of course, little one." Slinging his arm around trembling shoulders, Mukuro pulled the younger against him. He knew that peace and stability was what Fran needed, so he understood when the other needed to go home with their therapist. "At least he let you bring Jiro with you so he wasn't lonely; you are going to look after him, aren't you?"Fran nodded, leaning over to run his fingers through the animal's soft fur. He moved to sit with the dog, wrapping trembling arms around the creature as he pressed himself comfortably against Mukuro's leg, comforted to know he wasn't alone. The boy busied himself with stroking Jiro’s fur, murmuring to the animal as Mammon and Mukuro talked amongst themselves. He didn’t pay much attention to their conversation, more focused on burying his face in against golden-brown fur. “Mukuro?”Fran blinked, vaguely picking up on Mammon’s sudden change of tone. He didn’t take his eyes away from Jiro, not sure if the concern he could hear in the woman’s voice should worry him or not. “Are you okay?”Turning his head to look at Mukuro, Fran was surprised to find his guardian holding his face, a blank expression greeting him. Getting to his feet, the boy put his hand on the man’s arm, hoping Mukuro was okay; this wasn’t normal behaviour for the even-tempered male. “Master? Are you feeling okay? Should I... find someone...?”Shaking his head, Mukuro shuddered. He tried to shrug the younger’s hand off of his body, but Fran didn’t understand the message; he instead moved closer, trying to comfort his favourite patient, when all the blue-haired male wanted was to be alone.“Fran, Mukuro needs to be alone.” Mammon was gentle as she put her hand on the boy’s shoulder. She wasn’t bothered when the teal-haired male froze at the contact, tensing seconds later as he whimpered and curled in on himself; he was simply terrified of being touched, and everyone believed that would never change. “Would you take the dog and find something else to do for a while? He needs to talk to me, and I know he wouldn’t want you to overhear.”“Okay...” Fran whispered, his emerald eyes taking on a dejected look. He leant down, grabbing the blue handkerchief that was always tied around Jiro’s neck. “Come on, Jiro...”The dog was peaceful as he followed behind Fran, having long-since gotten used to the boy’s quiet, gentle nature; he didn’t mind being tugged along, whether it be by his handkerchief or the nape of his neck; he was far too docile to be bothered by someone with so little experience in dealing with animals. With Fran now out of the room, Mammon moved closer to her cousin. She was placid as the man dropped his head onto her shoulder, a soft groan escaping his lips. “What’s wrong, Mukuro?”“Stop talking about that...” Mukuro mumbled, scratching at his face.“About what?” The woman knew what this was; the younger’s illness was tampering with his awareness of reality, causing him to misinterpret his own inner thoughts as someone else speaking, and most likely construing it in a way it was making him feel bad. “About Belphewhore...” A soft growl left the man’s lips at his own words, but no matter how clear it was that he was quickly becoming frustrated, his expression remained blank. “Why would you tell me something like that?”“Tell you what?”“That you care more for him than for me. I do not wish to know how little I mean to you if Belphewhore is more important.”“I didn’t say anything like that, Mukuro; I wouldn’t say anything like that.” Mammon was patient, knowing it wasn’t the younger’s fault; the other just happened to be travelling along so well regarding his mental illness, he was bound to have an episode or two sooner or later; she couldn’t be sure, but she didn’t think anyone could have a mental illness and not ever show another symptom again just because they were being medicated – the system had to fail sooner or later after all, even if just for a few minutes. Getting to his feet in an abrupt manner, Mukuro turned to send a loathing glare towards the wall, his heterochromatic eyes burning. “If you love your boyfriend so much, Viper, perhaps you should be with him and not me; I would hate to bother you with my presence.”“Bel isn’t my boyfriend, Mukuro.”“Of course he is; you are a woman, and women should not be sleeping with anyone but their partner. I am surprised you have not had a baby to him; you do it with him often enough.”“Bel isn’t my boyfriend, and I’m not the only one he sleeps with.” Mammon was used to people commenting on her relationship with the deranged blond, but they truly weren’t partners; they had simply found a best friend in the other, someone they could trust when they couldn’t anyone else – they were only human, and they both lusted just like everyone else in this building; was it really so wrong they could find physical comfort in each other they couldn’t find in any other individual? “Don’t tell me what to do with my body, Mukuro; I’ll do what I want.”“Just go make love with him if you love him so much! It is not like I need you, Viper! I do not need someone who cares more for her boyfriend than for her own cousin! I know you do not care for my problems; you have already told me that! If you hate me so much, I will not burden you any longer! Go make children who won’t have a chance in life with such unloving parents; that is what will happen with you and your whore of a boyfriend!”“You talk about Bel as if he can control his sexual urges and whom he chooses to take to bed, Mukuro.” The woman was not happy, but she couldn’t take these accusations personally; Mukuro was most likely blinded by his illness and probably had no idea of how hurtful he was being in this moment; it was why she had sent Fran away, not wanting for her cousin to degrade the youngest if the opportunity arose. “He simply wants to forget; he doesn’t love anyone he has sex with; it’s only a means to an end for him. And what’s this about me not caring? Never have I said such a thing to you, Mukuro, and I never would – I do care about what you’re going through.”Mukuro sniffed, turning his back to the older adult. “Sex is a special thing... That’s why there is only two people I want to have it with... I do not like Belphewhore’s promiscuity; it upsets me to know you are part of it.”Mammon knew they were starting to get off-track, but what could she do? She could sit here forever and tell Mukuro things as they were, but he couldn’t see the truth; he had the voices of people he knew and trusted floating around in his head, confusing him and leading him to believe things wrongly; how could he listen to the truth when the very same voice was telling him otherwise in his mind and he didn’t even know the difference?“Mukuro... I do not want to have this conversation with you anymore; that’s my best friend you’re talking about, and I don’t appreciate it at all. I’ll find a staff member for you, but this conversation is done. I’m going back to my room. Come find me when you’re back to your senses.”The man mumbled something before he turned away again, not even trying to stop the woman from leaving; he instead allowed the hurt in his heart to fester, truly believing he had been abandoned by the only family who ever had cared for him.Reluctantly making his way back to his room, Mukuro decided a sleep would be good; he just wanted to get away from the thoughts running rampart in his head, after all.~~XX~~Lussuria was relieved that his two best friends had made up and returned to their semi-peaceful relationship; he had hated seeing Squalo so depressed, but it seemed that the long-haired man was doing better than ever; all he wanted was to be held in strong arms against that firm chest he knew so well, his eyes closed as he breathed in the other’s scent; there was nothing he loved more than burying his face in against the older male’s throat, knowing that he was safe and protected from the world around him.The man had just left his room to check on the two younger males, and he hadn’t even finished closing his door before a tiny hand tugged on his shirt. Looking down, Lussuria smiled as he found blank emerald eyes looking up at him. “Hello, sweetheart~ What’s the matter? Are you looking for Mukuro?”Fran started to shake his head before he flinched and stepped away as the other raised his hand without warning. He looked to the side, avoiding all eye contact as he realised Lussuria had simply scratched at his nose and hadn’t been about to hurt him.“Sorry, dear.” Lussuria wanted to hug the younger, to reassure him that he was safe, but he knew that Fran really didn’t trust anyone but Mukuro; he would only frighten the traumatised boy further if he attempted to put his hands on the other. “What can I help you with?”Opening and closing his mouth wordlessly, Fran looked down at the dog by his side before he whimpered and turned around, running back to his room as if the devil himself were after him. Jiro stayed where he was, watching as the door slammed closed, separating him from the human he had been accompanying for all this time. His tail drooped as a whine escaped his lips, his ears folding down in disappointment; first his master disappears without a trace, then Gokudera suddenly has no time for him, and now Fran...“Poor sweetie.” Leaning down, Lussuria scratched behind the dog’s ear, sensing Jiro’s distress. “I think Fran just wasn’t ready to try and talk to he doesn’t know very well. I’ll let you into his room, hon; I’m sure he’ll want you; he’s such a sweetheart.”Jiro followed behind the man, scratching at the door they stopped outside of. He could hear Fran inside, sobbing, and his first instinct was to offer love to the male; as soon as Lussuria had opened the door, he stepped into the room and closed the distance between he and Fran. He whined and licked at the boy’s face, as docile as ever as trembling arms wrapped around him, a wet face burying itself into his chest.Lussuria just smiled sadly at the scene, wishing there was more he could do, but knowing that Fran was in good hands; while he himself had never had a pet before, he knew that they were some of the best comfort one could ever ask for.Closing the door as quietly as he could behind him, the flamboyant male continued on his journey to Xanxus’ and Squalo’s room, only to wisely stop outside of Xanxus’ room as the obvious sounds of lovemaking sounded from behind the closed door.Humming in happiness, Lussuria didn’t mind rescheduling his day in order to find Ryohei; his two best friends were obviously doing well enough without him.~~XX~~“Don’t you get bored just sitting in here all day every day?” Byakuran sat peacefully in the chair of Rasiel’s room, his violet eyes fixed on the blond twin curled up in the bed. “Shesheshe~” Rasiel shook his head, his usual crazed grin stretching across his face. “The king is quite content in here~ All I need is my hand while I think about Belphegor~”Byakuran chuckled, always enjoying the blond’s stories; he hated Belphegor more than a lot of the other patients, so it greatly amused him to hear of the younger twin’s suffering. “That’s true, Siel~”“My favourite part was when Father shoved his dick down Belphegor’s throat~” The smaller male moaned at the thought, his hand sliding into his lap to lazily grope his growing erection. “Belphegor always choked and tried to push him away~ The only thing more beautiful than watching him cough up come and have it dribble down his chin is seeing his thighs covered in blood~”“Want to have a bit of fun, Siel?” Letting a sly smirk cross his face, Byakuran’s eyes closed slightly. “The staff are swamped; no one will have any idea we’re even in his room~”“Shesheshe~” The slighter male nodded, getting up from his bed in order to move to the broken air vent he hid his knives in. He grabbed a handful of weapons and slid them into his pocket before he got up, following the white-haired male from the room.Neither of them spoke as they traversed the hall, but when they came across Mukuro storming back to his own room unaccompanied, the marshmallow-loving male was quick to stop his companion. Rasiel frowned as he looked up at Byakuran, worried that his playtime was about to be cut short before it even started. “Byakuran?”“Let’s make a quick stop at that ugly little toad’s room first.”“What toad?” Rasiel, who ever-so-rarely ventured out of his room, had no idea of their newest patient. “Can I tear its insides out and decorate the walls with it?”“If that’s what you want.” Patting blond hair in an affectionate manner, Byakuran smiled gently at his friend. “Let me play with it for a bit first; there will be plenty of time to have fun with Belphegor after.”“Shesheshe~” Twirling one of his knives between his two forefingers, Rasiel shivered in anticipation; he was so excited, his groin throbbed angrily. It didn’t take long at all to step into the Varia Wing, and from the looks of things, it was deserted. Byakuran led Rasiel to what he knew was Fran’s room and, without even knocking, opened the door. Fran was inside, curled up beneath his bed with Jiro lying next to him. Moving towards the bed, Byakuran ignored the dog that was now watching him with wary eyes, as if it were on high alert. The animal’s quiet growl did nothing to deter him from reaching out and grabbing teal hair and, when he ripped it towards him, startling Fran from his sleep and dragging him out from beneath the bed, Byakuran didn’t take the dog’s barks and snarls seriously; it was Yamamoto’s dog, and it had never attacked anyone before – why would now be any different?“Kaching...” Scowling, Rasiel approached the bed, leaning down to look at the dog that had started lunging at his fellow Millefiore patient. “I hate animals.”“Kill it, Siel.”The blond didn’t hesitate to do as ordered; he withdrew one knife from his pocket, thrusting it forward and burying it in the animal’s side. Jiro yelped loudly and jerked to the side, blood spilling down onto the white lino floor. Fran’s eyes widened at the sight, a violent tremor ripping through him as memories flashed before his eyes. He screamed loudly as his heart thumped rapidly against his chest, his breathing coming in harsh gasps. He watched as Jiro next lunged at Rasiel, sharp teeth biting into the patient’s hand and tearing the flesh apart.Byakuran let go of the boy in order to kick the animal in the head until it let go. He picked up the knife that Rasiel had dropped, impaling it through Jiro’s muzzle in an attempt to keep it from biting again.Fran’s screams only got louder as he watched the two kick and stab the animal for what felt like forever until Jiro’s cries and movements soon ceased. Tears fell in rivers from emerald orbs as the boy trembled, so scared he couldn’t even scream as the two advanced on him next. The boy flinched as he was grabbed and a knife was raised, knowing what was coming, and also knowing there was nothing he could do to stop it – so when the door opened again and a silver blur tackled the two away from him, Fran could only cry in relief, knowing just how close he had come to being killed. While Xanxus and Squalo had both come to the youngest’s rescue, Hibari and Tsuna rushed in just minutes later, having been on their way to check on Fran after hearing from Mammon that Mukuro had slipped. Tsuna took just one look at the blood that pooled around Jiro’s unmoving body, and it was then he saw red; Yamamoto loved that dog with all his heart, and now...Hibari, who could sense his staff member’s dilemma, grabbed his attention, making no move to separate his brawling patients; Fran had dragged himself away from the fighting and into the far corner of the room, pulling his knees to his chest as he cried.“Go check on Belphegor.” The skylark knew he couldn’t let Tsuna handle this – not with what had happened to that dog; Jiro had been his responsibility, and now Yamamoto may never see his beloved family member ever again – he could only imagine the turmoil, the guilt Tsuna was going to go through as he felt like he had betrayed his best friend.Tsuna left the room in a shaking mess, heading across the hall to Belphegor’s room. The door was unlocked but, as always, the blond was in his restraints, thrashing violently as he snarled, obviously hearing the commotion from Fran’s room and becoming unsettled from it.“Belphegor...” Tsuna tried his hardest to stay patient with the older male, knowing it hadn’t been Belphegor’s fault this had happened, but it was easier said than done; with all the stress he had been under lately, the younger twin was his breaking point. “Belphegor, stop... I said stop... Belphegor! Stop!”Belphegor froze as the harsh slap across his face startled him, having not registered anyone in his room. He then snarled louder than before, thrashing more violently than ever, screaming as he struggled to get free to kill whoever had dared slap him, as well as whoever was trying to hurt his Froggy.Tsuna couldn’t stop himself; he raised his hand four more times, connecting with the blond’s face over and over again, shouting at the Varia patient to stop, just stop, just fucking stop, but it only made the situation worse; while Belphegor screamed himself hoarse, the brunet had curled up on the ground, his hands over his ears as he cried. One thing was for sure; after this, Tsuna was never going to look at the Millefiore patients the same way again. ~~XX~~“Are you okay, Fran?”Fran was still in the corner of his room, rocking back and forth as he hugged his knees tight to his chest. He looked up at Tsuna’s voice with wide fearful eyes, his otherwise-blank expression unsettling to the brunet therapist.
After Hibari had broken up the fight and gotten Spanner and Shoichi to take the Millefiore patients back to their rooms, he and Squalo had been the ones to clean up the blood that had pooled not only on the floor, but splashed onto the walls and the boy’s bed. Xanxus had been the one to take the lifeless animal out of the room and into Hibari’s where the skylark could take care of it, and once all of the blood had been cleaned up and he had double-checked to make sure neither of the other patients could leave their room, he had sat with Tsuna for a few hours, listening in silence as the brunet cried out his stress.
Now, Tsuna knew that with his own head just a bit clearer and his heart a tad lighter, he had to make sure Fran was going to be okay; after what had just happened...
Leaning down to kneel before the boy, Tsuna reached out. He placed his hand a top a teal head, understanding the flinch and whimper he received, but knowing that he had to be there for Fran, no matter what.
“We’re going home, Fran.” Pulling the boy into his arms, Tsuna waited for the younger to get used to the contact before he picked the other up and carried him towards the door.
Fran trembled as he was held, his fingers curling into the other’s black jacket tightly. He stared blankly over the man’s shoulder, sniffing every now and then as tears fell uncontrollably down his cheeks. He didn’t want Tsuna to hold him like this, but he was simply too exhausted to put up a fight; all he could remember was the blood, the animal’s pained cries, and he wanted nothing more than to go to sleep.
“M-master...” Twisting in his therapist’s arms, Fran whined at the sudden realisation that Mukuro wasn’t with him; why was he going home alone? Had they hurt Mukuro, too...? “Master...!”
“Shh, Fran.” Tsuna hugged the slighter male closer to him, trying to bring Fran a bit of comfort. “What’s wrong?”
“Master...!” Tears fell harder down Fran’s cheeks, his breathing becoming fast and shallow as he started hyperventilating. “Ma... Master...!”
“Mukuro’s fine, Fran.” The stronger male couldn’t be certain, but he had a pretty educated guess as to why Fran was acting like this; the teal-haired boy was much smarter than he’d let on, and he had probably linked the attack earlier to Mukuro’s unusual absence. He couldn’t blame the Varia patient if that was what was wrong with him, though. “He’s absolutely fine; he’s in his room, fast asleep. He’s not going to come home with us tonight; that’s all.”
Though it took a bit more reassurance to calm Fran down, the boy eventually hiccupped as he allowed himself to be taken out of the building and to Tsuna’s car. He was silent as he was placed on the front passenger seat, watching with wary eyes as he was strapped in. He stared as Tsuna shut the door and made his way to the driver’s seat, not used to Mukuro’s absence.
“When we get home, you can have a sleep,” the brunet promised. He didn’t like letting Fran sleep so much, but he would make an exception for now; the boy deserved rest. “I might even join you.”
“...Okay...” Once the near-inaudible whisper had escaped his lips, Fran turned his attention to his jeans, picking at the stitching.
With that said, it was silent for the rest of the drive home.
~~XX~~
Gokudera had been laying peacefully on the couch of Tsuna’s home, watching the TV. He wasn’t entirely happy, barely able to move to do anything for himself, relying on his best friend to come home from work to make him more comfortable.
When the door to the younger male’s home finally opened, Gokudera was beside himself with excitement. “Tenth!”
Tsuna smiled tiredly at his friend as he closed the door between he and Fran, the boy standing beside him with his hand grasped tightly in his therapist’s. “Hey, Gokudera-kun. Can I do anything for you?”
“Could... Where’s Jiro?” Gokudera knew it wasn’t normal for his friend to leave the dog at work, so why was Jiro nowhere in sight?
Fran drew in a sharp breath at this question as fresh tears welled up in his eyes. He turned and buried his face in against Tsuna’s side, hiccupping again. Tsuna frowned and caressed teal hair, knowing he had to tell the truth to his best friend.
“...Jiro...” The brunet’s heart was breaking at the concerned look on his friend’s face. “...Jiro won’t be coming back home with me again, Gokudera-kun...”
“Why not...?”
“...” Looking away, Tsuna whispered, “He’s dead...”
Green eyes widened at these words, the shock from the words cutting through Gokudera like a knife. That dog was his lover’s best friend, Yamamoto’s family – after... after this had already happened, why did the taller male have to suffer more in losing his dog, without even a chance to say goodbye? Why did they have to suffer so much...?
“How...?” Gokudera wasn’t sure he wanted to hear the answer, but he couldn’t stop himself from asking anyway; he had never been as close to the dog as his lover was, but still...! Jiro had been his friend, even if the man had never spent much time with the creature.
“The Millefiore patients got him...” Anger tore through Tsuna at the memory of what he had walked into, and he wanted nothing more than to go back to the facility and have both Byakuran and Rasiel punished as severely as he could get Hibari to agree to – hell, he was even considering having them both transferred; they had crossed the line in what they had done to the dog. “They had gone after Fran, but Jiro tried to protect him.”
Gokudera’s eyes welled up with tears, knowing there had been a reason he had always hated the aforementioned patients. “...And I bet Belphegor was in on it, too, right? He’s fucking sick enough to have wanted a hand in it.”
“Belphegor had nothing to do with it, Gokudera-kun; he had been in his restraints the entire time. They probably would have gotten him if Fran hadn’t been alone!”
“I wish they had gotten him!” The silver-haired male wished he could reach up and wipe at his wet eyes, but he couldn’t even do that. “I hate him so much; I wish they’d just gotten Belphegor instead, Tenth! Yamamoto loved that dog! It was his best friend, and they killed it!”
“Gokudera-kun!” Tsuna didn’t want to scold the man too harshly, knowing where Gokudera was coming from, but did that really give the older male the excuse to wish death on their patient? Sure, Belphegor was probably their most difficult, frustrating and time-consuming patient, but he had such a painful past and trauma that would forever hide in the shadows, no one could truly blame the blond. “Gokudera-kun, it wasn’t Belphegor’s fault this happened! He didn’t ask for any of this!”
“Tenth...” Dropping his head, Gokudera let his tears fall harder. “...I’m sorry, Tenth... I’m just stressed...”
“I know you are, Gokudera-kun... I know you are...” Reaching down to rub Fran’s back, the boy having been silent throughout all of this, Tsuna started leading him further into the house. “Fran and I are going to have a sleep; do you need anything before we go, Gokudera-kun?”
Gokudera shook his head. “No, Tenth... I’ll sleep, too...”
Farewelling his best friend, Tsuna continued on to his bedroom. Once they had entered the room, the brunet helped Fran up into the bed. He pulled the covers over the boy before he moved to the other side of the mattress, slipping beneath the silk black blankets himself.
“Sleep well, Fran...” Tsuna closed his eyes instantly, hoping Fran would be able to at least rest enough to pull through this; he never minded that the younger refused to let him pull his hand away from Fran’s, instead squeezing the tiny hand in a comforting manner as they drifted off together, soothed by each other’s presences.
As hard as Fran had tried to sleep in peace, he was plagued by nightmares, constantly waking up screaming as tears flowed down his cheeks rapidly. Desperate for comfort, he found himself snuggling in close to Tsuna, just wanting to know that he wasn’t alone.
