Epilogue
The problem with peace is that it always on the defensive, always trying to protect against war. So when a sharp blast of hostile energy slashed its way through the fabric of the universe, severe disappointment rang through Sanctuary, but surprise was not present in anyone\'s thoughts.
In the Aries Temple, Mu and Shaka were sitting cross-legged, examining a chess board with some interest. As the energy blazed across their minds, both Saint\'s stiffened, and Shaka stood hastily, whatever openness present in his eyes being replaced by fierce determination. “It\'s not ours?” He inquired quietly, the words not so much a question as a confirmation. Mu nodded, getting to his feet as well. Within seconds, the relaxed quality of the moment was gone, as both Saints stepped backwards, eyes sliding closed as they found the places deep within themselves that fed their determination and forged their destinies. A brilliant glow surrounded them within seconds, it\'s intensity being mirrored at three points up Sanctuary, and as it faded Shaka and Mu were both enclosed in gold plating, demeanors changed in an instant from men to Saints. Shaka inclined his head to Mu softly, and turned to walk out of the Aries temple without another word. Shaka paused, looking around when Mu stopped suddenly.
“Shaka.” The Aries Saint said softly. The blond cocked his head.
“Yes?”
“Be…Saf...”
Shaka tensed, and raised a hand. There were liberties and words that would not be allowed. Mu paused, taking a deep breath. He smiled sadly.
“Be strong.” He said, the sentiment properly amended.
Shaka\'s shoulders dropped, he nodded.
“You as well, Aries.” Shaka answered and, before a response could be formed, was gone, back to his own temple and, if necessary, his own fight.
Mu strode to the front of his temple, looking out at the sky as though it could predict the intention of the force which once again threatened the human race. He thought it still felt distant, as though the fight would not the theirs, but instead the Bronze Saints, but it was impossible to be sure at this point. In the end, it didn\'t really matter. They would stand, forever vigilant, against any enemy that dared come, or ready to aid any ally that sought their help. It was likely that the Bronze Saints would require their assistance, if the enemy was strong. Even if the Gold Saint\'s themselves could not leave their post, they had abilities and power that would eventually be sought.
Mu would wait for them, they would all wait for them; wait to serve Athena and humankind. They would be strong, and they would fight. He was more motivated to believe that than he\'d ever been before, and Mu couldn\'t help but think that, maybe, he was more willing to fight than ever before. They all had their reasons for doing what they did, but Mu had never really considered his own before. Everyone needed a reason to fight, and being destined or meant to do so was not enough. You had to want to protect something or, at the very least, understand what you were protecting. Taking a deep breath, Mu looked out towards the horizon, and whatever lay beyond it. He would fight with everything he had to keep anyone from getting past the Aries temple. There were too many things above him that were too valuable to loose. It was no longer a matter of making sure they could be defeated if they got past him, it was a matter of keeping them from ever making it past him. The friendships he had formed, and the lover he had gained were entwined inseparably with his duty as a Saint of Athena. Sanctuary had rebuilt around Athena and their growing friendships, and it was theirs to protect.
With everything to protect and nothing to lose, five Saints stood outside temples, waiting silently to protect all they believed in, and all that they loved. Mu stood, feeling the Cosmos of his allies behind him, and took comfort in their strength, knowing that they stood as he did, determined to protect each other in whatever wars were waged against Athena.

Well, that\'s the end of it. 124 pages later. I dearly thank everyone who has given me feedback on this fic, and have unending gratitude for those of you who stuck with me over the summer. Thanks to all my readers - You\'re imput means a ton to me. More specifically: This story is dedicated to Silverr, whether she wants it or not. She is probably the reason this fic was completed, thanks to her never-ending support and advice throughout the writing process. She kicked my creativity into high gear and continually tried to prove to me that I was good at writing despite my flaws. So I figure she deserves the dedication.
