A Goddess Reborn
(A Saiyuki Fanfic)
Twenty
Tejas opened the door and peeked
inside to see Gojyo sitting on the floor next to Raido’s bed a cigarette in his
mouth and the ashtray nearly full of cigarette butts and she smiled as she
walked inside.
“Hiii…”
He looked over. “Pixie…”
She walked over to the bed and
looked at Raido lying there. “She has the power to turn herself back you know,
to the way she was before.” She crouched down next to Gojyo. “You don’t have to
worry about her.”
“I’m not worrying.” He remarked.
Tejas plucked the cigarette from
his mouth. “Uh huh, what is this your second pack since you first sat here?”
She waved the cigarette about. “Now now no smoking round the injured.”
He just smirked. “Trust me honey
first thing she’ll do when she wakes up is light one up herself.”
Tejas smiled. “You’re right, she’s
been smoking as long as I’ve known her, but there’s a large part of her life,
we know nothing about, at least you and Hakkai knew Vayu for three years after
her parents died, I only came along later…” She looked at Raido just lying
there on her back.
“You feel left out honey?”
“Not as much as she would. Vayu
never talks about what she’s seen in Raido’s head, why she killed the demons an
humans she did before she met us, whether it was self defense or she was just
mad at the world…”
“Maybe that’s cause she doesn’t
know either pixie. Ever thought about that? Even some things have to stay a
secret round her.”
Tejas smiled at him. “Oh yeah. Well
Hakkai is making something to eat, do you want me to bring you up something?”
“Nah I’ll be alright, I’m not like
you or the damn monkey…”
Tejas stood up. “Okay more for us…”
She waved as she walked out closing the door after her and Gojyo looked at
Raido’s figure in the bed, the room once again in darkness.
“Dag nabit she took my smoke.” He
reached in to his pocket and pulled out the packet before looking up at Raido.
~*~*~*~
Tejas skipped in to the kitchen.
“Gojyo’s not hungry, more for us!!” She cheered.
“Yay…” Vayu drawled the sarcasm
obvious.
“I knew you’d be happy!” Tejas
smiled not noticing the sarcasm.
Goku sat on the chair watching as
Hakkai started the preparation of the meal showing Vayu the ins and outs of
cooking and letting her help in the preparation.
Sanzo took the cigarette from her
hand and put it in the ash tray.
Tejas blinked. “Whooopsie I forgot
about that.” She laughed.
“It won’t stop him smoking round
her, you can trust me on that…” Goku remarked.
Tejas nodded her face serious for a
moment. “She hasn’t even moved, it’s like she’s…”
“She’s not.” Sanzo remarked. “I
should know that girl is too damn stubborn for her own good.”
Vayu sighed. “I hate this feeling,
the waiting it kills me.”
“It’ll be okay Vayu.” Hakkai
smiled.
“I’m the only piece of humanity
left in my group, you know how annoying that is, it makes me feel so…” Vayu
growled her Sanzo like personality slipping in the frustration of finding her
own weakness to be that she was born human.
“You’re not Vayu you’re far from
it, you’re one of the strongest women I know.” Hakkai smiled placing his hands
on her shoulders. “You just seem to live no matter what.”
“Has Cyran come back from getting
supplies yet?” Tejas asked.
“Not yet, but it shouldn’t take her
too long unless she went browsing for clothes as well.” Hakkai laughed
nervously.
“That Goddess is nothing but a pain
in my ass.” Sanzo grumbled.
~*~*~*~
Cyran wandered the streets the only
light the street lamps she’d lit along the way using her Goddess powers she had
a bag of food in one arm and she looked at the empty town and she sighed.
“You don’t have to hide in the
shadows you know?” She spoke.
“Hmph, how annoying that you seem
to know where I am.” Kougaiji remarked.
Cyran turned round. “Goddess of
secrets.” She smiled with a wink. “I know a lot of secrets.”
“Then you know what happened?” He asked
as he walked up to her.
“Well not that part I think I
didn’t want to know.” She looked to the side. “What’d they do to her?”
Cyran found a bench to sit down on
while Kougaiji kept to the alleyway, and Cyran, listened to what he had to say
from everything they put her through, to the infection of the mist and
listening Cyran leaned forward looking down to the ground.
“They got to her?”
“Yes I’m afraid if she takes that
limiter off, she might be working for my step-mother, so becareful it doesn’t
break no matter what.” He replied.
Cyran pushed her fringe from her
face. “That poor girl. She’s going to be too much like Hakkai even more when
she’s back on her feet...”
“Is she awake yet?” Kougaiji asked.
Cyran shook her head. “No and doubt
you could get near her, Gojyo is playing guard, he won’t even let us stay in
the room long enough.” She replied.
“She nearly freed my mother today,
I actually was able to speak to her, she’s a powerful one and my step-mother
will want to get her back among her little lab rats, so just watch over her.”
Kougaiji stepped away.
Cyran smiled. “Thanks for the
information, even the Goddess of secrets need a source for her information.”
“Whatever, just let the priestess
know, this isn’t over, she will finish it next time.” With that Kougaiji
vanished from sight.
Cyran smirked. “She’ll be happy to
know she has your attention now too.”
~*~*~*~
Sanzo sat in the lounge of the
hotel at a table with Hakkai, Goku and Cyran, the four of them playing Mah
jong.
Hakkai smiled as he placed a tile
on to the board. “Well I must say it’s nice to have some time off for a bit.”
“Don’t get use to it, we can’t keep
stopping for long periods of time like this and the longer we stay here the
more dangerous it becomes, we’re like sitting ducks.” Sanzo pointed out.
Cyran just nodded. “I agree, but I
think Kougaiji will give us this break just for once. He feels like he owes it
to her.” She placed a tile down and smile. “I win.”
“What the hell?! How’d you do
that?!” Goku looked at her. “You cheated!”
Cyran smiled. “I didn’t cheat,
Goddess’s do not need to cheat at mah jong.”
Hakkai laughed. “You have had about
five hundred years up on us of this game I have to admit, but why play a game
with us now? You never wanted to before.”
“Tejas is sleeping and Vayu’s
determined to find a way to harness those powers of hers that she had when she
was little and with your other member upstairs and not moving from that room,
I’m the only option you have left.” She smiled. “So I thought I’d grace you with
my presence.”
Hakkai laughed. “Oh boy are all
Goddess like you?”
Vayu huffed as she walked in.
“Hardly. She’s the eccentric one. We had to keep her out of trouble in Goddess
school. Her tastes were getting the rest of us in trouble.” She pulled up a chair
to look at Cyran. “You got your information from Kougaiji’s mouth on what
happened didn’t you?”
Cyran smiled. “Yeah, you can say he
was pretty impressed with Raido’s Goddess abilities, but after all the younger
sister to Homura, big things were expected of her. Until she decided to screw
it all and come down here.”
Vayu smirked. “That much never
changes. I read her once by accident when I found out about her mission to
India, she told the three aspect they could sit on their mission and rotate…
she has no respect…” She chuckled.
“Your kidding me, she actually said
that to them?!” Hakkai laughed. “Oh boy no wonder she isn’t funded.”
~*~*~*~
Gojyo woke from where he sat his
back up against the bed and he felt movement and he turned round and looked
over at Raido as she sat up looking round the room.
“Raido… hey priestess you alright?”
He caught her just staring at her
hands and she looked down before letting them rest on her lap. “I think… I’m
okay.”
Gojyo smiled. “Good.” He then
glared at her. “What the hell do you think you were doing rushing off like
that?!”
She blinked for a moment and looked
at him. “I wasn’t thinking… I’m sorry, my bad.” She just smiled. “I took my
power limiter off after Vayu was captured, I don’t think when it’s off, it’s
like I’m someone completely different, but I’m not, I just don’t care when it’s
off, not about myself, not about demons, not about humans… but for some reason
I was determined to help her somehow and I couldn’t even do that right…” She
looked down just seeing the bandages wrapping her chest up and her eye
twitched. “Gojyoooo…”
“Relax honey it’s not like I
haven’t seen it…”
*WHACK*
“YOU PERVERT!!!”
“GODAMNIT PRIESTESS! That’s the
last time I’m going to help you!!”
“SINCE WHEN DID I ASK FOR YOUR
HELP?!?!”
“WELL I DON’T KNOW I WAS TRYING TO
BE NICE!!! BUT YOU CAN FORGET IT IN FUTURE!!”
Raido pulled the sheets up to cover
herself. “I don’t need bandages! I’m fine, I don’t wanna look like a mummy.”
He just huffed. “Priestess the only
clothes you have are those bandages your robes are gone, my guess Kaika and
Shere, and I don’t think you wanna wake up in blood drenched clothes, and I
don’t know your size… sooo…” he looked off to the side.
He felt her hand on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, it’s just I kinda freak out when I realise I’m in nothing but a
sheet and bandages and your in the room.”
His eye twitched. “What kind of
person do you think I am?”
She just smiled. “A perverted one,
but with a good heart, thank you.”
He let his shoulders sag. “Damnit
priestess…”
“You stayed by my bed this whole
time didn’t you?” Raido asked.
“Pretty much.” He shrugged
nonchalantly.
The door opened and Hakkai just
smiled. “We could hear you two down stairs. Nice to see you’re feeling yourself
anything you need?”
“A cigarette.” Raido replied.
Gojyo held up his packet offering
her one and she smiled and took it. “Thanks. Now I need some clothes.”
Hakkai just smiled. “Well you’re in
luck then, Cyran took some from the town below I’ve washed them so they should
be dry by now…”
Raido looked at Hakkai. “Cyran
picked them out…”
Hakkai laughed. “Oh don’t worry
they’re nothing to flashy.” He picked up a box and brought it in and placed the
box on the bed. “I’ll let you get changed…” He just smiled.
Raido opened the box and she pulled
out a top and jeans with a denim jacket. “Casual but nice, thanks.”
Hakkai smiled from where he stood
at the door. “I don’t think she could find any arm sleeves for you. I’m sorry
about that, next town over perhaps.”
Raido laughed. “Or I could just mug
a certain Sanzo for his who knows.”
Hakkai laughed. “I won’t tell him
you said that.”
“Damn monk has ears in the wall, he
probably heard it anyway.” Gojyo grumbled.
“Well I’ll leave you to it, we
leave in the morning if you’re up to it, just don’t sleep in.” Hakkai smiled as
he left.
Raido finished her cigarette before
wrapping the sheet round her, and picked the box up.
“Hey where are you going?”
“A shower first, is that okay with
you… dad?” She smiled.
Gojyo just smirked. “Well then you
wanna call me suggar d-” He began.
“No.” Raido laughed. “Don’t even
think about it.”
Gojyo watched her as she went in
the bathroom and he heard the shower start up. He looked at the door of the
bathroom then sighed. “How…how come she turned fully demon, if she was part
demon then it shouldn’t take effect it should it?” He asked himself.
~*~*~*~
Raido entered the lounge with Gojyo
walking behind her she wore the tank top and jeans and she saw the others
looking at her.
“Yaaaaaaay you’re awake!” Tejas
cheered her arms flapping about happily. “Chocolate for all!”
Raido smiled. “I’m okay now you
guys. Thanks for waiting till I woke up.”
“So you think you can drive
tomorrow?” Vayu asked.
Raido rubbed the back of her neck.
“Yeah I should be able to, I’m just going out for a bit, I need some smokes.”
“Don’t be too late, we need to be
up at the crack of dawn to make up for the time we lost hanging round here.”
Sanzo remarked.
Raido waved her hand about. “I’m
really sorry, my bad. I shouldn’t be too long.”
“Unless you get lost.” Cyran spoke
up.”
Raido just laughed. “I’ll be okay.”
With that she walked out the door.
Hakkai looked at Gojyo. “So you
think she’ll be okay?”
“She just needs some air for now.
It’ll do her some good.” He replied.
“It’s pretty obvious you two are
getting close, she doesn’t hit you as much as she used to.” Tejas smiled.
“That’s good, I’d like to see her happy.”
Gojyo looked away. “What makes you
think it’s like that?” He asked.
Hakkai laughed. “Well perhaps
because I’m right and it is the true thing.” He replied pointing upwards a smile
on his face. “After all if I remember correctly, you never pursued Vayu because
she shot you down, yet with Raido she shot you down and you kept chasing her.”
Gojyo’s eye twitched. “It’s not
like that.”
Vayu laughed leaning on the table
and looking up at him. “How do you know if you’ve never been in love before?”
“I don’t have time for love.” He
remarked before stalking out the door.
“Yet he goes to follow her.” Vayu
chuckled.
~*~*~*~
Raido walked the streets and she
paused under a streetlight and she looked up at the tobacco sign on the store.
“Finally…” She walked inside and looked at the empty store. “It’s like a ghost
town now.” She grabbed a couple of cartons from the shelf and put them in to a
plastic bag and she opened her wallet and rung it in the till.
“It’s the honorable thing to do I
guess, after all I caused them so much pain, they really hated me.”
She walked out of the store before
looking up at the sky. She stuck her hands in her pockets the bag hanging from
her wrist as she walked.
‘It’s been three years since I was
summoned to the three aspects… they knew about the Gyumou resurrection and I
was suppose to be there by now to stop it. But I’m not there and I’ve taken my
damn time… but why do I hesitate?’
***FLASHBACK***
Raido stood in the temple
leaning against the closed door looking at them, a cigarette in her hand.
“We have a mission for you
Nakiryu Sanzo please approach.” The younger female of the two spoke
Raido walked up to them, she
didn’t kneel before them just stood there challenging almost like an equal.
“I have my own mission.” She
replied.
“We want you to travel west head
towards India and look in to the on goings at Hotou castle find out what is
happening and why the resurrection of Gyumou has been going on for Five hundred
years.” The elder of the two women spoke.
“Yeah sure, after I’ve finished
my mission.”
“This is an urgent matter
Nakiryu.” The elder of the three heads added.
“Look you floating head
Buddha’s, I didn’t become a Sanzo because I wanted to! So you can wait! So you
can take you goddamn mission and sit on it and rotate you got that?!” She
turned round and began to walk out pausing at the door. “You can find some
other Sanzo smuck to do your bidding I’m having nothing of it.”
“This is important.” The younger
of the heads spoke. “A Sanzo with your supremacy is hard to find with no
previous mission to speak of we will keep calling you back until you accept.”
“You have nothing you can offer
me to do this mission. I work at a price. A girl’s gotta live.” Raido pushed the
door open and she walked out.
“Oh great Sanzo can’t you stay
longer?” One of the monks asked as she headed to the gates.
She turned round the looked at
them. “I am a woman and you wish for a woman to stay on your hallowed grounds
well you can get bent.” She turned round before walking out.
“MASTER SANZO!!” One of them
shouted.
“Sanzo?” A young voice asked and
she stopped for a moment.
She looked over her shoulder as
the gates were closing and she only saw brown hair and yellow eyes, eyes of a
heretic.
“Stop boy that is not your
master Sanzo.”
“Red hair… it was almost on
fire.”
“Trust me son, she is fire, get
near her and you get burned, everyone does. She is more rebellious than your
own master.”
She shrugged before leaving the
temple.
~*~*~*~
It was half a year later when
she found herself back outside the same gates. ‘Damn these monks, can they stop
summoning me to those three heads.’ She thought in complaint before walking in
to the monastery.
“Welcome Master Sanzo. They are
waiting for you.”
“I bet they are.” She complained
as she walked up the steps and towards the temple pausing outside and pushing
the door open.
The door closed after she
stepped in to the blue-lit room and looked at the three heads. “Your anger has
diminished since we last spoke.” The elder of the two women began.
Raido walked up to them. “My
mission hasn’t changed.” She knelt before them and she just sighed.
“Your mission ah yes, eliminate
those responsible for turning your father’s location over to your step-father.”
The elder remarked.
She looked at the old man. “I
have slaughtered so many yet you summon me.”
“You are near your limit of a
thousand demons I fear only two hundred to go, which is why we have summoned
you, yet again, that which you seek, is west on the way to India. We will give
you directions to what you seek and when you get there you can tend to your
business, but afterwards you must fulfil our wishes.” The younger of the two
woman spoke.
Raido’s eyes opened. “You know
what waits me there don’t you?” She asked.
“The demon slayer which you seek
resides there that and his human followers who have suffered through evils of
demons like he has.”
“Then you have my attention.
Give me directions and I’ll go west…”
The elder smiled. “So be it
Nakiryu Sanzo, we will give you directions to confront your step-father... if
that is what you wish.”
Raido lowered her head. “It’s
all I’m living for, to return the love and devotion he showed towards me…” Her
voice took on a cold edge, “Then I will do as any of you bid me my soul will be
at rest.”
***END OF FLASHBACK***
Raido stopped walking for a moment
and she looked at the scars covering her arms. “It’s all I live for… to do to
him as he did to me… then I don’t need to live.” She muttered to herself.
Gojyo paused from where he was
watching Raido round the corner a cigarette in his mouth. He turned round the
corner walking behind Raido.
“Hey priestess, the hotel is this
way.” He remarked.
She stopped and turned round
looking at him and she blinked before giving a closed eye smile. “It is…? Oh my
bad.”
Gojyo walked up next to her. “What
else you looking for?”
“Somewhere where I can get some
alcohol…” Raido replied.
“Then follow me honey I know this
place, I found it while there were still people in this town.” Gojyo replied.
Raido just smiled. “Okay then… lead
the way.”
Gojyo looked at her. “I heard you
muttering before. This other thing you need to do, are you really willing to
throw your life away after it’s done? Because trust me honey that’s a waste if
a hottie like you just gives up.”
Raido rubbed her exposed arms and
she looked at the scars lining up her arms in various slashes. “Yeah well it’s
just something I have to do, if I ever want to be at peace… after that the
three aspects can have me to do their missions, I don’t care anymore, it’ll be
over with.”
Gojyo stopped outside a store.
“Priestess… it shouldn’t have to be that way.”
“I’m only alive for this reason…”
She let her head drop, “I don’t want to live after it’s completed I don’t
deserve to live… I’ve killed so many humans, demons all of them partly
responsible but when I got mad and I killed their families it’s something I
can’t repent for, I killed the children too because I didn’t want them growing
up alone like I had to, I was stuck in a goddamn monastery where the monks
hated me but I couldn’t leave until I was strong enough to force my way out
those gates, since then I’ve been slaying, until three years ago… I met some
people I couldn’t understand, with this weird connection I seemed to have with
them.” Raido sighed. “A miniature side track, but that will be fixed when I get
there… it’s on the way west so I’ll be stopping off there anyway.”
Gojyo looked at her. “You… you
remind me of Hakkai…”
She looked at him. “I do… you guys
mentioned that after we met again this year.”
“Hakkai had something he had to do,
but he didn’t get to do it.”
“Bury Kanan… this isn’t burying
someone Gojyo… this is killing someone, and trust me it’s the last person I
have to kill then I will accept whatever fate awaits me.” Raido brushed some
hair from her face.
“So this is it, the big secret your
list of those you have to kill is complete then, just one more to kill, can you
do it?”
She looked at his back as he stood
infront of her. “If I don’t kill him, then he’ll kill me, it’s simple Gojyo he
deserves to die, he’d kill you, Goku, Hakkai if he knew about you, you follow
me?”
Gojyo turned round. “A demon
hunter, you’re chasing a demon hunter, I’ve met one before… but he wasn’t
pretty, Goku turned Sage and took a chunk of his arm and Sanzo shot him… what
will you do to him, slice his arms up? Beat him till he wishes for revenge or
death?”
Raido looked at him as he pushed
open a door. “Here priestess here’s your booze shop, get what you want.” He
held it open as she walked inside.
“Thanks…” She wandered the store
while Gojyo stood outside waiting for her smoking his cigarette.
It was a few minutes later she
emerged several bottles of alcohol in a plastic bag. “That’s all, we can head
back now.”
Gojyo nodded as he led the way.
“Death of a step-parent won’t satisfy anything.”
“I know… but this is for my peace
of mind that he won’t do to others what he did to my father just because his
lecherous ways made him lust after my mother.” Raido looked at his back as he
walked.
“So be it honey…” He looked over
his shoulder as he found her already opening one of the bottles and sculling
down the contents as she walked before putting the cap back on.
“Now that you know Vayu will know…
So I’m sorry Gojyo… but it has been good for you to ease my soul.” She stopped
walking putting the bags down.
He turned round to look at her.
“What are you…?” He stopped as she began to slip the beads off and his eyes
widened. “NO YOU DON’T!” He grabbed her slamming her to the ground and holding
her there. “Do you think by killing me your secret will be safe?”
She smiled. “I wasn’t going to kill
you.”
He blinked as he sat up and she
pulled the beads off and he jumped back as she doubled over in pain and her
demon transformation came and she looked up at him.
*Ba-dump*
“Then… why priestess… what are
you-?”
“Can you truly love someone who
looks like this the curse of looking like a half breed but having too be a full
blooded demon?” She asked.
Gojyo knelt down in front of her.
“It’s just claws and pointed ears priestess… you’re still hot.”
*Ba-dump*
Her eyes widened and she looked
down, and she felt his hand touch her hair as his finger ran through it
lightly. He leaned close and she felt her cheeks heat up as his breath touched
her neck she let her eyes close.
‘This feels so nice… comforting
almost.’
*ba-dump*
“Hnnn… owwww…” Gojyo pulled back as
she doubled over holding the side of her head.
“Honey?”
“Stay back! I can’t…”
She gasped as he grabbed her arms
and looked in to eyes as crimson as his own as they glazed over and a demonic
look passed through them.
“No you don’t! Come back this
minute!” He slammed her to the ground and she looked up at him as his lips
captured hers and he felt her arms slid round his shoulders.
*Ba-dump*
He pulled back and looked at her,
the look was gone, it was those same sad eyes he was so used to seeing staring
right back at him. He sat up as she sat there next to him looking at him.
She touched the side of his face.
“Thank you… forgive me…”
“For wha-?” He was cut off as she
kissed him.
“For this…” She replied.
His eye’s widened as he felt
something sucked from him before he hit the ground unconscious.
Raido picked up her beads and
slipped them on and walking to her bags she pulled out the already opened
bottle and crouched on the ground the bottle in her hand and she opened it up
before sculling down the rest of the contents straight.
“I hate this feeling…” She mused.
“I can’t control it.” She touched her chest. “You distract me, make me love you
and I can’t have that, not when I could hurt you. I’m sorry Gojyo, you’ve been
hurt by women enough I don’t want to be on that list.” She stood up dropping
the empty bottle on the ground. She grabbed her bags and looked off down the
road. “I shoulda asked him for directions first, night time makes it so much
harder to find my way back.”
She started heading off down the
street.
