“You did what?!” Fighter jumped out of her chair, eyes wide, chest heaving, staring at the princess in horror.
“Unfortunately, or fortunately I guess, depending on how you look at it, the princess was not at home. But I did have a nice informative chat with Luna. And you were right; they have been talking about you Seiya.” The princess leveled a stern gaze at the Starlight in front of her.
At the sound of her other name, Fighter sank back into her chair, lowering her eyes to the ground at her feet. It was nice to know she wasn’t crazy, but knowing that someone on Earth was talking about her just opened the painful tear in her heart even wider.
“Why?” Her voice was barely an audible whisper as she brought her hands up to cradle her face.
“Because you have been in her thoughts.” The princess’ gentle voice made her head snap up so quickly it hurt her neck a little.
“Whose thoughts?”
“The Moon Princess’.”
Fighter felt the last of her composure crumbling with the rest of her heart and tears began flowing freely down her face. Utter agony consumed her; to be in the thoughts of the one she held so dear, something she had thought she’d wanted, to be in her thoughts when Fighter could not have her, it was more than she could bear. She buried her face in her hands once more.
“Do you know why, Princess?” Healer put a hand on the distraught girl’s shoulder, hoping to administer even a little comfort with the gesture.
“Though it has been peaceful, life on Earth has not been without its heartaches for the princess, and she has missed her friends.” Wanting to keep her promise to Luna and not to further distress the emotional girl in front of her, Kakyuu kept her response vague and superficial, but she still hoped Fighter’s reaction might be strong enough to help her decide what to do next.
“Heartaches? What do you mean?” Fighter looked up, her eyes narrowing slightly. Kakyuu vacillated for a moment before deciding that the Earth Protector’s death could be considered ‘common knowledge’ and hoped that Fighter knew enough of the rest to draw some conclusions on her own.
“Apparently, the Protector of the Earth has died. I believe Luna said his name was Mamoru Chiba.” For a split second that horrible memory flashed into Fighter’s mind; I need to see you, Mamo-chan!
“What?! When? How?”
“Several years ago, not long after we had returned to Kinmokusei, he died of a human illness.” The ebony haired girl jumped out of her seat and began pacing back and forth, unable to contain her agitation.
“And she’s been alone all this time? I have to go to her, I have to…I need to…” Fighter’s pacing slowed as the information sank in. What exactly could she do? “Not long after our return? And she didn’t…” In all that time, the exasperatingly charming blonde had not called for her. Fighter sank back into her chair and stared numbly at the ground once more. “Why now? After all this time?”
“Luna told me that the Princess has had a difficult time with her grief. She was lost to herself for those years until recently.” Kakyuu knew now what must be done; the only thing that remained to be seen was how.
Fighter was standing next to her bed holding several items above her small bag, staring off into space when Healer found her there. Silently, the silver haired Starlight took them from her friend and put them into the bag before guiding her to sit on the bed.
“Are you alright?” It took a moment for Fighter to snap out of her trance and respond.
“What? Oh, yes, I’m fine. It’s just…” She bit her lip; her eyes turning glassy once more. “I’m so confused. I don’t know how to feel right now. I’m…sad and angry and terrified and excited all at the same time. But, I think, mostly terrified. What if she doesn’t want to see me? What if she doesn’t recognize me anymore? What if she still doesn’t…” Fight couldn’t voice that thought out loud, not even to Healer.
“I guess the only thing to do is to go like the Princess suggests and find out.” Healer was not so conflicted. She was all excitement at the prospect of returning to the Earth and reuniting with old friends. “Now, hurry up and finish packing. I know I’m going to need your help to force Maker to pack.”

Kakyuu peered into the apartment through the glass sliding door of the deck. It felt odd to engage in such a behavior, especially as a planetary sovereign to whom every door on her home planet was open. After several long minutes with no movement on the other side of the door, the fiery princess slid the door open a bit and called out softly into the quiet room.
“Luna? Are you here?” She slipped inside and slid the door closed behind her as the charcoal cat padded into the room.
“Princess Kakyuu, back so soon?”
“Yes, Luna, it was easier than I expected to figure out the best course of action. Are you anticipating the Princess’ return soon?”
“No, she’s at work and won’t be home for several hours, so you needn’t worry about her finding you here.”
Kakyuu proceeded to tell Luna about Fighter’s reaction to the news of Mamoru’s death and her plan for bringing the Starlights back to Earth. When she finished the little cat’s eyes sparkled.
“Well things are certainly going to get more exciting around here, aren’t they?”
