Disclaimer: I do not own Trinity Blood, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Astharoshe_lunastars alter ego: Thanks. Well, he's making an appearance this chapter, but not in the manner you hope for, sorry! It won't be that long from now. I hope.
Eidelweiss: *Takes a bow* here's new comer #1! Thank you for your compliments! I have a lot of fun writing these twisted psychological angles and I cherish the play on Isaac and Cain. Don't worry, Alex is about to get vicious and I assure you she will have all my vengeful nature packed into her. She will pit herself against Isaac very soon and Cain will have to step in as referee.
m-CHAN: ROFLMAO how coincidental, because I did the same writing it. *admires the shrine you've built her* I really should change my name. *munchies on smut kibbles* MmmMmMMmmmmm smut kibbles
Caranril: I wouldn't know if the german sucks, but I triple check my french before it gets posted so it won't be icchy and offensive ;) Every song under the title of Ave Maria, is in fact the latin version of the Hail Mary set to music. I believe Bach's version is an aria, and it's notoriously difficult, if I'm thinking of the write song. It's been set to many tunes over the years, so I'm not sure! Yeah, they're pretty brutal to Alex, but she'll pull through. Indeed, Cain doesn't have much need of her dead. LOL I'm glad you liked the smutfest. I know, Cain's wandering into a grey area he never expected to find. And his relationship with Isaac is going to twist interestingly soon.
Lulu: bwahahahaha! I guess it was emo at the end, hmm? Who wouldn't get emo over Isaac/cain OR Hugue/Abel though? *is already hot* I know, I got the idea from TV and reading. I watch alot of SVU, and crazy shit goes down in that show. Yeah, Abel's a little devastated right now, but thinks are gonna be a roller coaster soon. Get ready to hang on!
Kaie: I can't slow down! school starts in a week and everyone keeps telling me to update! Things'll slow down soon though with school and my other fic going. Yes, I've fallen head over heels for hellsing. Alucard is....something else, isn't he? Thanks for the praise!
DarkMagician207: new comer #2! :"> thank you for your praise and I'm glad you decided to review! If you want yaoi, hang in there, I'm thinking about having some in here, or if not, check out my other fic, the only fic in the challenges section. Yeah, I was sure I was going to have something yaoi happen in this fic, but now that I know someone's hankering for it, I just gotta put it in! SMUTFEST AHOY. keep your eyes peeled and keep reading! It's coming soon. ;)
Darkephoenix: *grins manaically kinda like Alucard* Yesh, drool inducing, isn't it? I do try. Apparently I succeeded too. squee thanks for the praise and read on! Stop dropping spoilers! ;P
Okay, so here's the next chapter and thank you to everyone who reviewed! I love hearing your likes and dislikes and your opinions on where the story is going. I love writing it and I'm going to do a couple of short chapters that I hope will all be done today. The chapters won't be coming as fast now because they're sharing my attention with another fic! If you guys haven't noticed, I've got Izayoi's requested fic posted in the challenges section, so head on over and check it out.
Chapter 20: We Are All but Black Dust in the Wind
Alex ran down darkened hallways, barely able to see three feet in front of her face. Her feet burned with the cold of the stone floor beneath her bare feet and the air that rushed into her lungs felt like flaming daggers. She plowed forward, taking turns, praying they brought her to the exit. Finally, she saw a door that was closed, but had the tiniest bit of light peeking in along the floor. She bit her lower lip, stifling a sob of relief that threatened to escape her and give her away. Wildly, she wondered why no one had caught up to her. She threw the door wide, blinded by the light of the day as it spilled over her, saving her from Hell itself. She finally let loose a cry then, a cry of relief that wracked her entire body. She stumbled out the door, letting it shut with a resounding, ominous, clang. She ran through unknown streets, winding between abandoned looking buildings. She noticed her shadow growing longer and paler, and looked to the sky. Clouds, dark as charcoal, gathered in the sky overhead and she wailed in fear. She could feel anger, hot as a blazing flame, lick at her back and she did what she could to place a great distance between herself and that door.
“Abel! Abel, save me!” Alex closed her eyes tightly, praying to every higher being that listened, to bring rain. She knew that rain would bring him to her. Blessed rain began pouring softly, quickly becoming a blinding deluge. She screamed for Abel again and saw a figure appear at the end of the street she’d just turned onto. She stilled herself, her heart thundering painfully in her chest. She squinted, struggling to make out the face through the haze the rain created. The figure began running at her and she backed away, squinting still, panic rising, carrying her heart into her throat.
As the follower caught up to her, wrapping strong immovable arms around her from behind, she loosed a shriek that sounded unnatural and animalistic. She struggled and fought for her life and the hold only tightened. She was beyond panicking, running on pure adrenaline as she kicked and clawed at her captor.
“Alex! It’s me! Stop fighting!” Abel’s command was broken by grunts as Alex landed blows. He whirled her around to face him and her eyes went wide in shock, tears welling abruptly.
“No, it’s an illusion. Release me!” Haven’t you brought me far enough into ruination? For the love of all that’s holy, release me!” Alex fought valiantly, but her fists and feet fell on the marble body of her lover uselessly. Abel shook her a little violently, staring at her in disbelief. How could she not believe it was him?
“Alex! You told me to look for you in the rain, remember? The rain is here, we’re at the center of the storm above us and I’ve come to you as you said I should. I’ve been searching for you all this time.” Abel’s voice quavered and she stopped struggling. “Alexandra, don’t fight me after all this time.”
“Abel? Is it really you?” Alex’s tears ran heavily and he searched her face, unable to flash her his comforting smile.
“Yes. We have to get you back to Lady Catherina. The longer we stay here, the longer we open ourselves up for attack.” Abel wrapped his arms around her and she heard him muttering, transforming swiftly into his crusnik form. He took to the air and the rain drove into them harder than ever. Alex buried her face in his neck, clinging to him tightly, praying silently that this was real, that this wasn’t an illusion. If it was, she was positive that Cain would not allow her to live. When they touched down in the courtyard of the Vatican, all Alex’s fears were dissolved as she threw herself at him bodily.
He captured her in a crushing embrace and they clung to one another as if they sought to meld into a single entity. As Alex leaned up to kiss him, he suddenly shoved her back to arm’s length, his hands closing like iron bands around her upper arms. She winced and looked up at Abel questioningly. He sniffed at her, his face mingling in a horrible display of anger and disgust. He shoved her away and Alex was barely able to stumble upright and keep herself from falling.
“Abel, what’s wrong with you?” Alex could feel her heart thundering in her ears, racing through her body.
“You... you let him touch you...”
“What?”
“His scent is all over you! You reek of that bastard!” Abel’s eyes flared a deadly red and his hair began to swirl frighteningly, his wings flexing menacingly.
“Abel, I was held captive! They raped me!” He stared hard into her face and she could feel him invading her mind. She tried to close it off, tried to hide it from him, but he saw it clearly. She was mortified and began sobbing, his face growing less and less like his true visage.
“You welcomed it! You took pleasure from it! You are vile and repugnant. Worthless terran whore.” Alex’s heart stopped. She could no longer feel her blood racing through her limbs in anxiety, nor the rain pounding against her skin, nor could she hear the howling of the storm. All she could feel was the hatred rolling off Abel in great heated waves. His glare spoke of malice and death and for the first time since they’d met, she felt terrified at his true form. She felt disconnected from her body, the familiar feeling of detachment. She watched as she drew her dagger from her thigh holster, seeing the action as though she were merely a spirit happening upon a quarrel in the rain. She screamed, but her detached form had no voice with which to sound the scream. She watched in horror as she sank her dagger deep into Abel’s heart, the blood rushing out over her hand and trickling from the corners of his mouth. She was suddenly, painfully rocketed back into her body and she reeled, pulling away from Abel abruptly, releasing her hold on the dagger. He looked down at it, almost in wonder, before he fell to his knees on the cobble stones, looking back up into her face with a look of agony that threatened to shatter her sanity.
“Abel! Oh god. How do I fix this?” Her voice was trembling, she was trembling, and when she looked into his face she was shocked to see him smiling, a hollow cold smile.
“You cannot. You have ruined me. We have both been brought into ruination.” Abel’s wings creaked like old bones weary of carrying weight and when she looked up at them they were beginning to dissolve into black dust. Alex screamed and moved to cradle Abel’s face, sobbing hysterically.
“Abel don’t leave me! Please, this isn’t how it should be! I did what I could to resist, I couldn’t fight them both while I was dying from hunger, please! Don’t leave me.” Abel gave a heartless look, that sickening smile still plastered to his lips.
“Get thee behind me, Satan’s concubine. You will bring damnation into this world, and I will not be alive to see it. Nothing in this world is forever.” Abel looked to the sky, the rain battering his cold skin. “Ave Maria...” Abel’s smiled widened and with a soft hiss he dissolved into a giant cloud of black dust, carried away by the wind and washed away by the rain. Alex’s anguish knew no bounds, fathomless in it’s depth. The air had been sucked from her lungs and she couldn’t remember how to breathe. She didn’t want to breathe. Minutes later when the air did come back into her lungs with a painful gasp, she forced it out with a heart wrenching cry. She screamed his name to the heavens, knowing his was beyond her reach...
Alex’s eyes snapped open, disoriented by the very dim light in the room. She was screaming and realized that she’d woken herself with the sound of her own screaming. Someone was stirring nearby, gripping her tightly, shaking her.
“What in the seven hells has come over you, Alex? Calm down!” Alex clapped a hand over her own mouth, trembling violently, melting into her sobs. Cain pulled her close, as she whimpered miserably, cooing softly to her. He rubbed her shoulders and kissed her tear stained cheeks, waiting as she relaxed, pulling her into his chest where she curled up tightly, listening to her own ragged breathing. She pulled a lock of his hair down and stared at it in the dim light until she could finally make out the color properly. It was gold. Her sobs renewed, quietly, and she hunched against his chest in agony.
Cain had no idea what had caused this strange fit in the woman shaking so horribly against his chest, but he had an inkling when she quieted, taking a shock of his blonde hair. She stared for some moments before she began sobbing uncontrollably again. He clutched her to his chest protectively, snarling mentally at her pining for his brother. He had been nothing but caring towards her and now she was in his bed, wrapped in his arms, sobbing over his brother. He kissed her softly, his fingers brushing over her scalp and he felt her shiver and respond to his kiss. He was overjoyed that she responded and decided to play it sweetly, continuing to sooth her until her crying stopped and her breathing evened and she slipped back into sleep.
Cain’s mind was busy trying to solve this latest problem and an hour, maybe more, had passed before he realized that he needed to get back to sleep. He calmed his own ragged nerves and trampled heart by listening to her gentle breathing. He inhaled the scent of her hair, her skin, the smell of fear and anguish gone in light of the deep penetrating sleep that shrouded her. He vowed to himself that she would love him, that he would make her desire to be with him, that he would make her forget all about his brother.
