Darkephoenix: I dunno if you watch anything on Adult Swim, but Troy also does the voice of Action Bastard on ShinChan... x'D Thanks for the positive energy. Still no one in the family is talking to me after almost four weeks, and fathers' day dinner plans have been made, but no one's said anything to me...*shrugs* Read and enjoy
DarkCrusnikMagician: I'm looking forward to writing their interactions, so I'm glad you're looking forward to reading it. and SHHHHH! you're getting ahead of us again!
AngelOfSilence: Merci beaucoup
winterfrau: Yeah, he does have a penis, so we gotta make him act like it sooner or later right? ;P I like making him properly flirty, it's fun. And yes, we will have a chapter from each of the boys, soon. read and enjoy
Min: Yeah, I make Cen a bit of an ass, but it IS an affliction of his gender, and therefore not ENTIRELY his fault. Besides, he's only acting out and he's SOOOOOO cute. *pinches his cheek and fusses over him* He's my baby, don't hurt him! He's gonna shape up soon.
Astharoshe: Happy birthday! Hugue has died, dear. I really hated killing him, but at least he lived a while 'fore I did -_-
Chapter 20: Promise?
Alex sighed as Cendricus turned and flung his arms around her. He gripped her tightly and she was almost overwhelmed by the emotions he couldn’t quite keep in check. She felt his anger and his hurt as well as a terrible undertone of loneliness. Alex held her son tightly, combing her fingers through his blonde locks.
“Cen, this has to stop.”
“I can’t help the way I feel.”
“You don’t have to like Abel, if you insist on having nothing to do with him, but you do have to respect him. Furthermore, I expect you to respect me, just as you should expect respect from me.” Cen pulled away to look up into her face, his eyes rimmed in blood, her wordplay failing to get a chuckle from him.
“I’m sorry, Mom. I know I shouldn’t have said it... but it’s hard to see you happy with him. I can smell him on you.” Cen took a curl from her shoulder and inhaled softly, his face crumpling in dismay.
“Why do you hate him so, Cen?”
“I don’t know! Something about him angers me.”
"He is trying so hard to be open and accepting, no matter how hateful you get. Doesn’t that speak to you at all?”
“But why? He isn’t my Father!”
“Because you are still his blood, and you are my child. He was a big part of my life before you were born and he wants to be a big part now. He wants everyone to be happy.”
“He’s trying to take you and Rius from me.” Her son’s expression had darkened and Alex tried not to see his Father in him.
“No, love. No one will ever take me from you. I am forever yours and Aurora’s and Ilarius’. My babies always come first.”
“Then stop seeing him.” Cen nuzzled into her hair and neck as though what he said wasn’t hurtful.
“Cen, that’s not fair. Aren’t I entitled to happiness?”
“Yes, Mother.” His voice had grown quiet, sad. She wondered vaguely if he was playing her or if he was seriously this adamant about backing off with Abel. She cradled his head and stroked his hair lovingly.
“Don’t ask this of me, Cen. I need companionship while you three are away studying, and Abel is a good man.”
Cen sighed and kissed her neck, his teeth grazing her skin. She shivered and remained silent, unsure of how to answer his unspoken question. He took the initiative and nicked her, suckling from her softly and she cradled her boy, remembering when he was small and had to feed from her regularly. She sighed softly, remembering the way his little teeth would gnash at her skin before he learned to nip once and properly suckle. Tiny details from his childhood came flooding back to her, his big eyes, his little hands, the way he couldn’t stand being out of her sight.
“Cen!” Alex’s eyes welled with tears and she hugged him tightly, the pleading in her voice making him ache for her.
“I’m sorry, Mother. I don’t want to lose you.” His voice held it’s own anguish and she pulled him away to cover his reddened face with kisses.
“No, baby. I’ll always be yours, if you promise to be mine.” He ducked his head, hiding behind his hair and she knew he was struggling with tears, something she’d rarely seen her son do.
“You loved Dad, you loved Abel, but not my Father. How can you love me?”
“Oh, Honey. How could you think that? How could you think that I don’t love you? You are so precious to me. I love every one of you with all that I am.” She leant down to look up into her son’s face as the tears rolled down his cheeks, staining them frighteningly. She hated to see him cry, and she held him tightly again.
“But I wasn’t born of love like Rius and Aurora.” His voice was choked and pained and she covered him in more kisses, eager to dispel his sadness.
“I was in love with Abel, I was in love with Hugue, and for a short time I loved your Father too. He never returned it, I may have only been a pawn in his sick games, but I loved him. He showed me kindness, and he treated me like a queen. I may look back on that time and find anger in myself for loving him, I may look back and an find myself immensely hurt and confused, but do you know what else I see when I think of those times?” Her son shook his head, looking at her curiously. “I see the joy I felt at having life grow within me. I found joy at the thought of being a Mother, because for many years I told myself I never would be.”
“Why?” The redness drained out of his face a little and she swiped away some of his tears, ignoring her own.
“Why what, love?”
“Why did you tell yourself you wouldn’t be a Mother?”
“My Mother... never loved me. I was never shown how a parent should care for their child and I told myself that if I ever had children, I wouldn’t know what to do with them. I found it came quite naturally. The moment I laid eyes on my boys, you became the loves of my life. No one could ever take the place of my children.” She smiled comfortingly and he relented, giving her a small smile.
“I love you too, Mom.” He leaned into her hand as she brushed his cheek.”
“Will you let this thing with Abel go?”
“I can’t say it won’t still bother me some, but I will try my best to hold my tongue.”
“I can’t ask for any more than your best.”
“I’m sorry I was such an ass this morning.”
“Don’t worry, it’s a general affliction of your gender.” Alex grinned playfully at her son and he adopted a shocked expression.
“Nu-huh! Boys are better than girls!” He used his best little kid voice and spit his tongue out at her.
“There’s my little smart ass.” Alex gave her son one last kiss, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and steering him towards the bathroom. “Let’s get cleaned up and go to breakfast.”
“I’m starving.”
“Me too.” Alex ruffled his hair and dampened some toilet paper, proceeding to clean his face while he grumbled about not needing her help.
A few moments later, the two entered one of the smaller dining halls, where Rius, Aurora, and Abel were eating breakfast. The three looked up as they entered and Abel and Aurora smiled. Cen smiled sheepishly at his sister and she squealed his name, her earlier irritation forgotten.
“Cen!” She hopped up from her seat and bounded over to him. He kneeled to hug her and looked up at his brother.
“Forgive me, Aurora?”
“Of course I do, silly.” She hugged her brother tightly, kissing his cheek sweetly. “Hungry?”
“Always.” Cen grinned and pulled her close again, making slurping noises near her ear. She squealed, making all of them wince, and swatted at him until he released her. She hopped back into her seat and patted an empty seat between her and Ilarius. He came and sat down, keeping his eyes on the table, ignoring the press of Ilarius’ gaze. Ilarius loaded up a plate for his brother while he sat quietly, still looking dejected. Ilarius wrapped an arm around his brother’s sagging shoulders and held a forkful of scrambled eggs in front of his face.
“Rius.” Cen was quiet as Alex sat down at the table across from Rius, Cen, and Abel. Aurora sat at the head of the table and watched the interaction nervously.
“It’s all right, Cen. Forget about it. Eat up. We’re two plates ahead of you.” Cen looked up to see Ilarius smiling encouragingly and he took the fork from the silver-haired boy, his face melting into an uneasy smile. They all fell into an easy silence, and Alex even took a full plate of food for herself. She watched the three of them sit together, Abel and her sons, and marveled at the perfect human copies before her. Ilarius looked up to see the half-dazed smile his Mother wore, and stopped eating to consider her.
“What is it, Mom?” Everyone turned to stare at her and Alex choked on her food, blushing.
“Nothing, just thinking.”
“What about?” Cen narrowed his eyes at her and grinned.
“Oh, you know... I’m just letting my mind wander.”
“You shouldn’t lie to your children. Teaches them it’s ok to do it themselves.” Abel smiled smugly at her and she kicked him under the table, making him jump. His knee collided with the table, upsetting the silverware and the boys dissolved into laughter.
“Are you ok, Abel?” Aurora’s eyes grew big as he cursed under his breath, rubbing his smarting knee.
“Perfectly fine, Aurora, just a nervous twitch.” Alex and her kids dissolved into laughter and Abel spit his tongue out at her. He grew silent, staring at his food, a wicked grin painting his features, his liquid blue eyes twinkling.
“Don’t you dare!”
“Don’t what?” Abel adopted the most innocent look. The boys turned to look at him, then his food, and then their Mother, finally catching on.
“You’ll never get any prank past her, she always knows what you’re thinking.” Ilarius nodded his head in agreement with Cen.
“She’s ruined countless perfectly good pranks with her mind reading.” Ilarius shook his head at the poor priest. Abel deflated into the cutest pout and Alex grinned triumphantly.
“I don’t need to read minds. I’ve been raising boys for almost forty years.” Alex smiled and went back to her food, finishing what was left on her plate. “I was just thinking about how handsome my boys are. If the three of you ever went out into public, I’d need to take a bat to beat all the girls off of you.”
All three boys blushed and laughed off her compliment and Alex stood to clear the plates. Aurora flung herself around Alex’s legs as she cleaned dishes in the sink. Alex laughed and patted her head.
“Boys, take Aurora to the gardens, won’t you? I’ll be along in a few minutes.” Alex smiled at her boys as Ilarius picked her up.
“Sure thing, Mom.” Ilarius held the door open and the three of them cleared out of the kitchen, leaving her and Abel alone. She continued scrubbing their plates as he came to stand behind her. He brushed his fingers down her arms, covering her hands with his as he kissed her shoulder. Alex closed her eyes and leaned back into him, feeling the small thrill of being pinned against the counter by his larger frame.
“Naughty Crusnik.” He bit into her shoulder with his dull teeth and she shivered.
“Not nearly as naughty as I could be.” He pulled his hands back to trace the small strip of exposed skin at her waist, turning her to face him. She looked up into his smoldering eyes, her hands braced against his chest.
“You’re naughty enough to get me in trouble.”
“I seem to recall being much much naughtier back in the day.” He leaned in, tracing her neck with his tongue. “Was is really that bad?”
“No. We had a nice long talk and he’s agreed to mellow out. We might want to be careful around him though.” She stood on tip toe to kiss his cheek, wrapping her arms around his neck, playing with his hair.
“I suppose you’re right. What about when the kids are away?” He breathed warmly over the skin he’d dampened moments before and she shuddered, whimpering quietly.
“When the kids are away, we can do whatever we feel is right.”
Abel gripped her waist and lifted her onto the counter, pressing himself between her legs. She gripped him tightly, wrapping her legs around him, and sighed quietly, a gentle blush dusting her cheeks.
“And what would feel right, Alexandra?” Abel cradled her face, kissing her heatedly. She whimpered and braced herself against his chest again, nipping at his lip as he retreated.
“Being together again.” She leaned her forehead against his chin and he hugged her tight, groaning in response to her answer.
“I have waited forty years to hear you say that.” He threaded his fingers into her hair, breathing a deep sigh of relief and contentment.
“Tonight. After they’ve gone to bed.”
“Are you sure?” Abel wasn’t entirely sure he’d heard her right.
“Yes. Come to my room.” Her fingers were shaking against his lapels and he covered her hands with his, smiling as she looked up into his eyes.
“We don’t have to rush this. I can wait for you, if that’s what you need.”
“I need you, Abel. I need to be touched and loved and needed.” She flushed and buried her face in his uniform front to hide it.
“I need you too, Alex.” He kissed her temples, her forehead, her nose, pulling away to smile at her. “Let’s catch up to the kids, shall we?”
“Sounds like a good idea.” Alex smiled at him and hopped off of the counter, taking his hand as they left the kitchen.
“Isaak.” Cain called into the emptiness of his room, watching the shadows shift as Isaak appeared.
“Yes, Mein Herr?”
“I want you to move out tonight. I want my son and his Mother brought to me.”
“Your will be done, Mein Herr.” Isaak bowed, watching his Master from his perch in bed. “Shall I prepare a bath for you, Mein Herr?”
“Yes. I will need them more frequently if I am to keep my family in line.”
“As you wish, Mein Herr.”
“I will feed today as well. Be ready for me after my bath.” Isaak shuddered as Cain’s eyes roamed over him from head to toe.
“Call and I shall come, Mein Herr. Your bath will be ready in two hours, Mein Herr.”
“What a good boy, Isaak.”
As Isaak melted into the shadows and disappeared, Cain wondered what his true thoughts were regarding Alex’s return. He’d been thoroughly ounished by her on her last visit and now Cain had a son as well, a prince, to be doted upon. Isaak couldn’t handle being shunted aside the first time, how would be take it now a mere forty years later? He’d lavished attention and even affection on Isaak after Alex left. Immediately following her return to the Vatican, Cain had been insatiable, calling on Isaak to feed him almost daily, their feeding rituals nearly always resulting in sex. He wondered if Isaak ever knew how much he thought about the haunting woman he’d taken captive a lifetime ago.
He thought of his son. How would the boy take to him? Had his Mother poisoned him against Cain? Had Abel? From what information Isaak had gathered, both boys adopted Hugue as their Father and neither really had any contact with Abel. He knew that would hurt, and he smiled to himself, cherishing the thought of his brother’s suffering. It was about time someone rejected Abel as soundly as Cain was rejected.
Cain laid back in his bed and sighed, closing his eyes. His thoughts invariably fell back to Alex. Even after all these years he remembered every contour of her body, those lovely vibrant tattoos, the swell of her breasts, the sensitivity as he ghosted his fingers up her spine. He remembered all the subtle differences in her moans and sighs, how he always knew what she needed of him without a single word passing between them. He couldn’t deny that her burning hatred for him, even in dreams, scorched him mercilessly, but he knew he could change her mind, just like he had before. He chuckled to himself and laid back, bracing his arms under his head. Alex was finally going to be his again.
