A Friend To Me

Title: A Friend to Me

Author: Jigoku no Miko

Author’s Quote: A friend who loves you in spite of your imperfections is a friend to cherish.

“You say it was water?” Hotohori echoed what Tasuki had told him about what he felt before he was possessed.

“Yeah it was really weird though.” Tasuki whispered. Unknowingly water crept through under the door before flushing the entire room and catching both Kana and Miaka in air bubbles.

“Oh no. Why does it have to be you? Hiko?” Chichiri growled.

“Miaka!!!!” Taka yelled to his love.

“It’s the same water.” Tasuki whispered.

“It’s trapping us too.” Nuriko exclaimed pulling at his arms.

“Yes it seems to know what its’ doing.” Hotohori added.

“Hiko show yourself!!” Chichiri screamed before a small bubble appeared on the wall and scenes from Chichiri’s past filled it. Two men, a younger Chichiri and another man stood arguing with hatred.

“Give her back to me Hiko, give her back!!” The younger Chichiri yelled as the others all watched confused.

“Chichiri’s voice.” Chiriko whispered realizing who it was.

“Who’s in the bubble?” Tasuki questioned.

“I think it’s Chichiri.” Taka guessed as the watched the younger other man fall off and scream for a man named Hojun to help him.

“Stop it! No!!” Chichiri threw his head back before a beam of water shot out of nowhere and hit him square in the stomach sending him flying through a support beam and crashing to the floor.

“Chichiri!!” Nuriko and Kana yelled at the same time. Being in that bubble was hurting Kana but she ignored it when she saw Chichiri get hurt.

“Yes, Chichiri or rather Hojun 8 years ago that was exactly how you killed me and why you need to experience the pain of losing everything dear to you! If you want them back come and fight me!” A man appeared with black wings on his back and wearing a blue cloak and a smirk before water swirled around the two girls in bubbles and they flew through the roof, Hiko disappeared.

“TAKA!!” Miaka yelled hoping her love would come.

“Miaka!” Taka reached up for her before the water receeded and the group sat on the ground for a moment before Nuriko noticed Taka wasn’t moving from the position he had been in when the water let them go. The others congregated around chichiri who was leaning against the wall unconscious.

“Chichiri.” Chiriko whispered hoping he would awake.

“It’s no use he’s unconscious.” Hotohori stated matter-of-factly.

“Hows it going over there?” Tasuki questioned looking over to Nuriko who sighed hopelessly.

“He’s still a basket case.”

“I see that.” Tasuki rolled his eyes.

Everyone stood in one of the bedrooms as Chichiri lie unconscious in a bed, Mitsukake sat in a chair next to him, the others stood behind him.

“Taka wait don’t go!” Nuriko yelled stopping Taka from storming out the door in pursuit of Miaka and Kana when he didn’t even know where they were.

“I have to Nuriko.” Taka huffed.

“I know how you feel but we don’t even know where he is.” Nuriko let go of Taka’s bicept and turned back to chichiri.

“I bet Chichiri knows but he’s still unconscious, Mitsukake can’t you use your healing powers and wake him up?” Tasuki questioned before Mitsukake sighed.

“The encounter he withstood damaged his spirit more than his body, right now it’s best to let nature takes it course and let him heal himself.” Mitsukake summed before Chichiri took in a deep quiet breath.

“I can’t do it.” He whispered as the others looked at him shocked.

“Your awake.” Mitsukake whispered surprised. “Are you feeling any pain?”

“You saw it, how I murdered my best friend. The big flood took all I loved with it, my family, my beloved but with Hiko it’s different. I can’t do it I can’t brign myself to kill him again, I can’t.” Chichiri turned away from the others and looked to the wall with a saddened spirit and disheartened eyes.

“chichiri I understand, I lost my family in that same flood but still I had Shoka. I would have been lost without her she rescued my soul, but as you already know despite my healing powers I let her die twice. For the longest time I hated myself, I couldn’t forget her, but now I know why I was born with these healing powers, to protect those I love the best I can, my friends here have shown me that. It has always been your way. We’re right here and want to help, I know it’s hard to reopen those wounds but don’t you think it’s time you set yourself and your friend free, I think you do.” Mitsukake summed, for a man that never spoke spilling that much information about his past and giving that much advice was hard for him.

“Forgive me Chichiri, we have always depended on you, Kana especially, I myself have relied on you, I will go tell me where I can find them.” Taka whispered before Chichiri sat up and looked from the sheets to his companions. “chichiri.” Taka whispered surprised.

“I will go.” He stated determinedly.

Miaka and Kana sat in small bubbles, Kana had been conscious the whole time but Miaka had collapsed from pressure. Sitting up groggily Miaka looked around at the cave they were in.

“Miaka are you okay?” Kana questioned before Hiko turned to face them.

“Are you awake now priestess of Suzaku?” Hiko questioned with a smirk before Miaka pounded on the side of the bubble.

“Just keep quiet they’ll come, assuming their not cowards.” He smirked with a devilish humor.

“You are Chichiri’s best friend, why are you doing this?” Miaka demanded.

“Easy, he got tired of being a stiff corpse so he sold his soul to Tenko in order to get rvenge for something that wasn’t even Chichiri’s fault and Tenko made him a god. Am I wrong Kanki?” Kana muttered with a sarcastic tone.

“Very good Kanashimi, I’m surprised you can keep that attitude with how weak you are, amazing your still alive after all the encounters with pain you’ve had, imagine all those demons and not one of their life forces were strong enough to kill you, I’m personally amazed.” Hiko stated matter-of-factly as Miaka looked at the confused.

“Kana what is he talking about?” Miaka questioned before Kana looked up at her guiltily before Hiko continued on his little rampage.

“You mean she never told you? I guess you never told Chichiri than either.” He looked up at Kana and the look on her face was so annoyed it made him laugh. “Well let me explain than, Kana, as you call her, is connected to this world and when a demon attacks you or she gets near the energy she gets surrounded by pain, trying not to collapse now is drawing all of her energy.”

Miaka looked at her with wide eys. “Is it true?”

“I…” Kana couldn’t find the words she just sat there speechless.

“Well silence says it all, I didn’t kidnap you just to lewar Chichiri here I can use your body as a median to the other world, the water born of my wings will rob people of their reasons, Tasuki has already proven that fact.” Hiko summed as Miaka glared at him remembering how Tasuki had been acting.

“Yui?” Miaka whispered when a picture of her friend in the bath tub appeared in a bubble on the wall much like Chichiri’s past did back at the house.

“Let’s see what your friend really thinks, shall we pry into the young girls heart? Most people are hypocrites and only think of themselves first.” Hiko whispered before the water formed a bubble around Yui and began to drown her.

“Hang in there Yui don’t let the water beat you down!!” Miaka yelled pressing her hands to the side of the bubble she was caught in.

“Miaka? Is that you Miaka?” yui whispered calmly.

“Oh Yui.”

“Don’t worry about me Miaka, do what you can for Taka and the others they need your help more than I do, I’ll be right here praying for you.” Yui whispered before Miaka got pissed.

“Hiko let my friend go!!! Let her go!!” She yelled before the water broke and yui was free, than the wall went blank.

“Hiko, is it true you mistrust friendship and the human heart so much, don’t you see that the one who gives up to hatred and bitterness is the real loser?” Miaka yelled as Hiko clenched his teethe in anger and regret.

Back at the house Chichiri dressed, everyone had left the room grabbing his staff before leaving the room and starting down the verranda. Tasuki turned to look at him from where he had been standing on the opposite side of the door.

“You know where they are don’t you? I’m going too, I don’t care what you say to talk me out of it. Because what Hiko did to you, I was gonna do to Taka, To think I almost… I thought of Miaka as a little sister, it’s funny even though you did something wrong they don’t blame you I thought of Miaka as a little sister but still how could I stoop so low. I don’t care if I die, if it’s for those two I don’t mind if I do, but still I’m a man too.” Tasuki whispered coming to stand next to Chichiri who no longer wore his mask.

“No bodies perfect, that’s why nobody can successfully live alone no da.” Chichiri sat his hand on top of Tasuki’s haed and smiled. “Alright, we’ll save Miaka and Kana together.”

Taka came walking forward from the shadows with a smile. “Make that three not tow I’m going too.”

“You’ll have to fend your own no da.” Chichiri whispered before holding up his staff.

Back at the cavern the two bubbles the girls were trapped in filled with water as Hiko laughed.

“Yes, suffer that’s exactly how I felt when I was drowning by the man I thought to be my best friend.” Hiko snickered before there was a large explosion and water from the ground where there had been giant puddles rained down on him. Chichiri, Tasuki, and Taka all stood at the other end glaring at Hiko.

“Hiko, release them at once or else…” Chichiri started before Hiko cut him off.

“Or else what?” He mocked.

“My friends who serve Suzaku mean more to me than life itself and to protect them I will kill you first.” He growled before Hiko laughed.

“Than you’ll have to do it before these lovely two ladies drown.” Hiko nodded to the two bubbles before Taka and Tasuki took off running.

“Chichiri we’ll handle Hiko you save Miaka and Kana!” Taka yelled before Tasuki threw his fire attack at Hiko who just blocked it with another water wall.

“Damn another water wall.” Tasuki spat before Hiko began shooting balls of water at the two injuring them as they yelled.

“Taka! Tasuki!” Chichiri yelled before Hiko said an incantation for an attack.

“Mi ka sho shii ka shi!!!” Hiko yelled as Chichiri started his own spell to reflect Hiko’s power.

“I give you ban ki no hu o nahu baku…” He began calling forth energy from his body.

“No Chichiri! Don’t fight with your friends!!” Miaka yelled from in her little bubble as she observed the fight.

“Na hi sho mighty buku ka!!” Chichiri finished before the two balls collided and created a large explosion. Taka and Tasuki sat off to the side watching and regrouping from Hiko’s attack.

“That’s wow.” Taka muttered.

“No shit man.” Tasuki added.

“Chichiri.” Hiko whispered out of surprise that Chichiri would fight him and that he would be that strong.

“Hiko stop this! Can’t you see that Chichiri, he loves you? Can’t you see that this fighting is hurting him? If you were his friend, if you were his friend you would understand that!” Miaka yelled once again from her bubble where she was supposed to be drowning. Chichiri’s powers swirled around him emitting a red glow before Chichiri cut it off.

“Don’t worry Hiko, this time I promise I’ll save you.” He whispered before throwing his sash in the air and disappearing and reappearing holding Hiko with his arms under Hiko’s arms and his hands locked behind his head. “Tasuki! concentrate on burning the robe if you do that than we’ll break through his barrier and destroy him!!” Chichiri yelled as water rushed around him enforcing a great deal of pressure and ripping his clothing.

“Wait what are you saying? If I do that than you’ll die too.” Tasuki whispered not believing what Chichiri was saying.

“Tasuki now! My body can’t handle this pressure much longer!!” He yelled as the pressure tore more rips in his clothing.

“Not this way.” Tasuki shook his head and closed his eyes.

“You can’t use your special powers inside this barrier and using flames? That amaturist trick will never work you fool!!” Hiko cackled.

“Do it! Do it now!!!” Chichiri yelled a fianl plea.

“It’s all happening again, dammit no!” Tasuki yelled remembering Chiriko’s death in the war with Seiryuu.

“Taka.” Miaka whispered before taka looked at her. “Save Chichiri, please save him.” She whispered before passing out in the water. Taka’s eyes got big before he turned to look at Tasuki.

“Tasuki.” Tasuki turned to look at him, they could read eachothers eyes and Tasuki knew what he planned on doing.

“Run Tama! Rekka Shienn!” Tasuki yelled before Taka took off towards Hiko and Chichiri, the flames began tu burn through the robe and Hiko was shocked.

“The barriers collapsing but…” Hiko stuttered before Chichiri ran his hand down the mans arn and grabbed his wrist.

“Don’t be afraid Hiko, look I’ve got your hand and this time I’m not letting go, your not going to be alone this time and now in heaven the three of us will be reunited.” Chichiri whiepered as a tear ran down his cheek.

“Let me go. Let me go. NO! HOJUN!!” Hiko yelled the last part before Taka punched through the barrier and hit Hiko right square in the stomach breaking the barrier. “How could I be defeated by mere children?” Hiko questioned as Chichiri watched his friend disappear in fron of his eyes.

“Hiko.” He whispered. The bubbles popped and the two fell to the ground, luckily Taka caught Miaka and Tasuki ran and grabbed Kana but landed on his ass with a dazed look.

“We did it Tasuki there okay.” Taka rejoiced.

“Yeah we did and my nerves are shot. I thought we were all gonna die you jerk, I’m beat.” Tasuki muttered before noticing Kana wasn’t breathing. “Kana?” He whispered shaking her. “Not again.” He panicked lightly before giving Kana the same treatment he had given Miaka back at the lake, mouth to mouth recessatation. Kana spat up some water before rolling over off of Tasuki’s lap and sitting up on her knees.

“What happened?” She questioned sensing the demons presence had diminished.

*****

“Chichiri knelt next to a puddle as a faint image of Hiko floated in it, Chichiri still held his hand which was molded strickly from water. Taka and Miaka held onto eachother as them, Tasuki and Kana all watched Chichiri say goodbye to his friend.

“Why aren’t you letting go of my hand?” Hiko questioned with a weak stutter.

“I promised I wouldn’t let go.” Chichiri whispered.

“We’ll all be reunited in heaven someday. You’re still such a nice guy that’s why she loved you, she always loved you.” Hiko began before Chichiri cut him off.

“Hiko don’t.”

“Do you really think she would betray you? I never wanted to take her away from you I just wanted, just once, to feel the softnest of her lips, the warmth of her skin against mine. She valued faithfullness so much that she thought she didn’t deserve to be with you after she had been kissed by another man, it was only once. I can’t say I didn’t understand her, yes I was the one who reched it all I deserved to die. And I let a better demon possess me, and for the sake of a bitter fool like me you got hurt if she had known, if she had seen that scar she would be hurt.” Hiko whispered his thread of life unravelling. Kana turned and shook her head with tears in her eyes before walking off and leaning against the wall with her head down to hide her tears.

“That moment I let go, I should held on no matter what I should have held on to you.” Chichiri began to cry, his tears mingling with the water that was spreading away from Hiko’s reflection. “When I saw you lying lifeless in the water I was lost, I couldn’t move. If I had the powers that I have now I would have saved you.” He promised.

“Oh Chichiri, we were young. Could really close friends really be so quick to distrust eachother?” Hiko questioned with a smile before Chichiri looked at hi wide-eyed.

“What are you talking about? You have and always will be my best friend, I love you, I’ve always loved you! Don’t go! HIKO!!” Chichiri gripped his hand but it just splashed and went back to the puddle it evolved from.

“To water I return, Hojun, forgive me, please.” Hiko’s voice rang in the air. Tasuki walked over to Kana while Chichiri sat dazed in the middle of the room as water that had once been Hiko’s hand dripped from his palm. At hearing footsteps she sensed it was Tasuki and let out a light laugh.

“It’s intresting isn’t it?” She questioned with a contradicting tone.

“What?” Tasuki questioned before she looked up at him and wiped the tears from her eyes with a mocking smile.

“That he can sit there and tell him that he love’s him and yet he can’t even say it once… I’ve been with him for two and a half years and never, not once could he even…” She trailed off and shook her head before looking up to him.

“Kana, give him some time.” Tasuki whispered before Kana turned back to him.

“I’ve spent enough time waiting.” She spat before leaning back against the wall. When Chichiri pulled himself together he walked over to the four who had all grouped by Kana.

“Alright lets go.” He whispered before transporting them back, when they arrived at the house Kana walked right back out and sat on the railing of the verranda looking up at the stars.
