Chapter Twenty-Two
I felt so stiff and tired, but at home. It all felt like a dream as I snuggled into the warmth giving a little groan. Trunks had either skipped training with his father today or had come back to bed after. Letting out a sigh, I went to plant a kiss on pectoral pillow when a sharp pain shot down my neck. Reality hit me like a ton of rocks as I shot up and tried to make my escape. The only problem: I was tangled in the sheets. Tumbling out of bed with a broken wrist wasn’t the best experience but at least I wasn’t next to him. Waking up like that had given me a sign of hope that this was all a horrible dream.
“I thought a good rest would have made you more docile,” Chrono crooned from the bed. Why did he have to be so irritating? I rolled onto my back to detangle my legs only to find him lazily leaning on his arm looking down at me.
“Would you like some assistance your highness?” a familiar voice echoed in the room. With a shuffling of newspaper and a few footsteps, I looked up at Kaspar. Was he going to make it a habit to be in my room now? I shook my head ‘no’ and managed just fine by myself. Taking the offered hand, I stood up trying to piece the situation together. “If you will follow me, I have a healthy breakfast with tea prepared.”
I gazed at Kaspar holding open a new silk robe to replace my ruined one, reluctantly letting him help me in it. It’s beautiful, unlike anything I’ve ever seen with a white color, gold threading outlining lush pink flowers and the painted detail of women sitting in a garden. I’m curious to what the back looks like but also, where did he get this? Taking a seat offered at the table, I gaze at the silver covered dishes curiously.
“Kaspar, I will need you to stay and write a binding document between her highness and I,” Chrono states, appearing next to the table in his own dark blue silk robe. Taking a seat across from me, I stare at him curious to what he means. Within moments, Kaspar has drawn up a seat producing a small laptop. Chrono turns his gaze to Kaspar as if there was an unspoken command forgotten. “The lids.”
I’d never known Kaspar to forget a command as he moved to that task, removing the silver lids as the different aromas wafted: eggs, toast, fruit, and sausage. All the things I wasn’t in the mood for. The steaming jasmine tea was poured as I notice next to my plate a small saucer sits with a few tablets.
“What are these?” I ask, gazing between the two. Kaspar shows no emotion as he takes his seat.
“Prescriptions from Dr. Ezra,” he begins, pulling something up on his laptop. “Multi-vitamin, prenatalgyn, trimedisyn, and loratab.”
I recognize some of the names and take them with some orange juice. Starving, I dig in having to use my left hand which is unusual since I’m right handed.
“Call the lawyer to be here this afternoon to make a contract of the following terms,” Chrono starts as I eat slowly. Terms for what? “Upon the safe arrival of his highness, the Briefs family, and Son family to Crystal Tokyo, she agrees to sign the Earthian divorce papers. After which—”
“I am not divorcing my husband!” I feel the rage coursing through me as Chrono looks unfazed and Kaspar surprised.
“As I informed you yesterday, there are some expectations to our agreement if you wish to see your family and friends safe,” he warns, his tone icy. I expected as much but to this extent? To publically humiliate my friends, family, and the man I love?
“We agreed to their safety if I was obedient to your commands,” I state.
“I thought I could put it formally instead of so barbarically but if I must, I must.” Chrono butters his toast before looking up with angry, cold eyes. The air in the room hangs heavily as I feel trapped in his gaze. “You will divorce your husband, marry me, bear an heir, attend all social functions, and act accordingly by holding your tongue unless spoken to. Do I make myself clear?”
His words made me sick as a knot formed in the pit of my stomach; I desperately tried to hold back the rage building inside. I hated this man, and the idea of him ever touching me in that regard made my body cold. Could I just sit here and let him do what he wished? Even to the point of degrading myself?
“Yes,” I finally reply between clenched teeth, setting down my fork and leaning into my chair. I have lost my appetite and wonder what Trunks is going to think of all this... I can’t help but think of him since this is the day.
The fate of our world lies in his and Gohan’s hands.
I excuse myself from breakfast and get ready, choosing my own outfit instead of the silk frock Kasper laid out. Slipping into comfortable yoga pants, running shoes, and a graphic t-shirt, I feel more than confident when I pull my auburn locks into the classic ponytail I used to wear during high school. If anything goes wrong, I know I won’t be able to stand on the sidelines without rushing in.
Ignoring the men’s gazes, I climb into the limo and help myself to a drink—trying to ease the tense nerves. Within two drinks, we arrived at Gohan’s palace that—a homey feel to it as it looks like it was built around the natural habitat with ivy going up the walls, a beautiful garden, and practical build. Greeted at the door, I recognize Videl from some pictures at Goku’s; her bright smile, long ebony hair pulled back into a braid, and piercing blue gems.
“Makoto, it’s great to finally meet you,” she greets, her arms wrapping me in a warm hug. I offer her a warm smile and same enthusiastic hug, feeling just how short she is yet I knew was full of vinegar from the tales I heard. “Bulma and Vegeta dropped by to show off their grandsons, come right this way.”
Wrapping her arm around mine I can’t help but smirk at how she ignored the other two guests.
“I hope Sai hasn’t been too grumpy,” I comment, feeling a warm squeeze on my arm as she giggles.
“I can tell who he takes after which is why Vegeta’s on Sai duty while Trunks is at work. We’re supposed to be expecting him hopefully for lunch, if you he’s not too busy with work,” she offers, sending me a wink.
“We won’t be here long,” Chrono chimes in from behind, an edge to his voice. Videl continues to ignore him, bringing us out back to a covered patio where Bulma, Vegeta, and Gohan relaxes drinking tea with a bouncing baby on Gohan’s knees. I can’t help but forget about everyone there and focus on my sons, or rather son, enjoying a new friend’s company.
“Ah, Makoto!” Gohan moves to his feet swiftly, balancing the baby in his arms. As soon as little eyes turn in my direction and a big grin flashes, I know it’s Hiroyuki. He squeals and tries to loll his body in my direction. I can’t help feeling joy overfill me as I close the distance to carefully hold my excited son. “Sai is down for a nap in our bedroom if you’d like to check on him later. It’s great to finally meet you, the boys are beautiful!”
“Thank you,” I manage, a bit distracted with Hiro. Pride swells in my chest as I caress his soft head of hair. This is why I’m doing what is so unexpected of me. I thought maybe I would put up a bigger fight but sometimes you just know when something more than your pride or ego is worth protecting. I may feel like I’m giving up but I want a future and world for my sons. I want to see them grow up instead of feeling the pain of losing them because of one, egotistical, selfish being.
As long those I love and cherished are safe, I will sacrifice as much of myself as possible.
“Woman, what happened?” Vegeta’s voice bites through my thoughts. I turn curiously and find everyone’s gaze on my cast.
“I got into a fight,” I state, watching the twitch of a grin at the corner of Vegeta’s mouth.
“We have another thirty minutes until the deadline for the match, would you like to change into something more comfortable?” Gohan finally addresses Chrono, his body stiff and shoulder tense.
“No, I’ll be fine,” Chrono replies cockily, taking a seat and stretching out. I couldn’t help but think how extremely full of himself he is for fighting in a suit.
“Makoto, would you like to put Hiro down?” Bulma asks, picking up the monitor and starting to get out of her seat. I look down at Hiro fighting a nap while hanging onto my shoulders, his head periodically laying down before it jerks back up.
“That would be great.” I follow Bulma through the palace with my hand rubbing circles on Hiro’s back, his head finally giving up to rest. Entering the bedroom, I hear the door abruptly close behind me and look around to see I’m alone except for Sai snuggled between two pillows with a baby monitor close by.
Wrinkling my brow, I situate Hiro onto the bed and smile down at the children. My heart swells with pride and joy yet my throat tightens knowing this may be the last time I could see them. Sinking onto the edge of the bed, I take a moment to myself and just finally breath. This past recent event in my life has been a rollercoaster from one disaster to the next but at least something good came of it like meeting someone I would have never met before, and bringing two beautiful sons into the world.
Hearing a click, I peek over my shoulder and feel my heart leap.
AN: This fic is discontinued. I have no idea where I was going with this anymore and feel embarrassed at how I wrote Makoto as being so weak. I am currently working on rewriting it during my free time in the evenings and weekends. I would like to sincerely apologize to those who have been following and waiting for an update for so long. I have uploaded a new prologue to Snatched [Rewrite] if you would like to start the adventure all over again. There will be some aspects for this fic in the rewrite, which I hope you will enjoy.
Progress will be slow as I now have a 5 month daughter that fills my time and am going to college part time during the week. Once again, I apologize for stringing you all along on this large fanfic and hope the rewrite will be more pleasing with a less AW-Makoto.
