Chapter 24
"You never told me your doctor was this cute."
You blinked as you looked at the man casually leaning against one of the walls of your office. You tilted your head slightly as you regarded the current number two hero. Even though you didn't know every Hero by name, this particular blond was hard to miss. The red of his wings was far more complex and dazzling up close.
"Hawks," was Endeavor's short greeting. "What are you doing here?"
Hawks pushed himself away from the wall with ease, the smile on his face only gaining size as he looked at the larger man. "I wanted to see if you wanted to team up for another patrol so I called your agency. They said you were at an appointment. I shouldn't be surprised that your doctor works so close to U.A."
"I'm not a doctor," you said as you took a seat at your front desk.
"Oh?" the winged hero asked as he looked at you for a moment. "I guess that makes sense. You're too cute to be a doctor."
"That's vaguely insulting," you spoke out in a musing tone.
"If you were a doctor you'd have those little worry crinkles from staying all night. Not to mention the frown lines from having to deal with people as stubborn as Endeavor here," Hawks joked as he put his fingers to the corners of his lips and pulled them down.
"Are you finished?" Endeavor asked in a grumbly tone.
Hawk's hands fell as he nodded. "Sure. So how about it? Want to team up for a patrol again?”
Endeavor nodded before heading out the door. You called out a farewell which was only returned by the blond hero. Along with his goodbyes, Hawks gave you a little wave and wink. Huh. Was he always that big of a flirt?

When you walked into the dorms at the end of the day you noticed a couple of things. The students seemed all hyped up with the first snowfall. Not that you could blame them - it really was beautiful. Though why Kirishima was outside without a shirt on like it was the best thing in the world was beyond you. You noticed a lot of them were gathered in what served as the living room for the class and a smile touched your lips.
"Petty-Nari!" Mineta teased as he jumped up, holding himself up on the top of the couch.
Your smile turned into a small laugh as you walked up behind them. Though the comment had sounded funny, apparently Kaminari didn't find it amusing, leading Shoji into soothing over the ruffled ego. It was cute how they were melding as one big family. You leaned over the couch, carefully positioning your arms in front of you so that Mineta didn't spew a river of blood, and quietly watched the news with the group. Another company was joining the Hero support item race which was interesting all on its own. What the news switched to next seemed more interesting than that.
“10 to 1, that’s from Todoroki,” you said as you looked at the newsfeed.
It was from a local news station that had interrupted the planned report. Most villain takedowns didn’t make headline news but you could see why this one did. There was a whole block of a street jammed up with ice. Which, as you were watching through the line camera reporting on it, started to fog up. Quickly the area was filled with so much steam that the camera couldn’t compensate. Even through the news reporters attempts to keep it interesting, you were pretty sure you heard someone grumbling. If you were right that was probably Bakugo.
“I guess that answers our question,” Jiro said as she idly swirled one of her ear jacks. “Bakugo and Todoroki got their license.”
“Yeah and five minutes later they’re on the news,” Kaninari pointed out in a slightly exasperated tone. “What a bunch of show offs.”
“When you got it, flaunt it,” you said in an amused tone. “Sometimes that’s what it takes to make it as a hero. At least Bakugo didn’t blow up a building right?”
“Yeah that’s true but maaaan” the electric kid said as he pointed towards the screen, “those two are going to hog all the spotlight when we get to Nabu island!”
“Not if you short circuit it first,” you teased.
It sounded like Kaminari was gearing up to say something more but he was hushed by Shoji. It became clear as to why as the reporter’s tone got excited. They’d spotted All Might amidst all the fog. Or rather, they’d found Toshinori and recognized him as the person that had been All Might. It wasn’t long until he was sort of corralled into being on camera. You supposed the young woman coming up to stop him from hurrying off had something to do with that.
“Thank you All Might!” The grateful woman gushed.
“I didn’t—“
“If you hadn’t pushed me out of the way, I would have been crushed!”
The enthusiastic reporter jumped in, “Is that true?! Did you save her from certain death?! Does this mean you’ll be returning to the hero scene?!”
You winced at the biased and excited way the reporter tried to get information out of the former number 1. The look of guilt and regret that crossed his face made you feel even worse for him. He tried to school his features into something lighter but it was easy to tell that the impromptu interview definitely had a tonal switch.
“As much as I would like to, my days as a pro hero have come to their conclusion. For now I will help behind the scenes at my Alma Mater by being the best mentor and teacher that I can be to the next generation of promising heroes. Like the two young heroes the citizens witnessed in action today!”
“Are they your protégés?” The reporter asked with interest, though greatly diminished from a minute ago.
“They are just two of the first year hero students from U.A!” Toshinori boasted with a smile.
“First years got their hero license? Amazing!”
Before you or the others really got to see how Bakugo and Todoroki handled their first candid interview, the tv was turned off. You stood up from your slouched position to see that Aizawa was standing behind you with a secondary remote in his hand. Though you hadn’t known it, he’d been standing there for longer than he’d meant to seeing as he’d gotten distracted by memory lane.
“Everyone should be packing and preparing for tomorrow,” the dark haired teacher spoke out once he had most of the teen’s attention.
You looked at Aizawa with surprise. They were being shipped out already?! It seemed like just a week ago that the announcement had been made but now they were all going off to be pro-heroes. Sure it was in a low risk area (Nabu island hadn’t had any major crimes in two or more decades) but still! The dorm house was going to be so empty without them.
“With everyone gone, who am I going to fuss over?” You asked the group with a playful frown, leaned back on the back to the couch.
Apparently Mineta lost his focus completely seeing your torso push out. He fell from the couch. It wasn’t long before he was just a little too close with that dazed look on his face. Which didn’t last long as you made air scissors with your fingers. His flushed appearance drained completely; he was hurrying off to his room while cupping his (clothed) male anatomy protectively.
“You can always mother-hen Professor Aizawa!” Mina brought up cheerfully.
“I don’t think he’d appreciate that,” you told her as calmly as you could.
Aizawa made some sort of sound that you didn’t want to take time to interpret. Mina on the other hand poured, pushing at one of your shoulders.
“All the more reason you should do it!” She insisted. “He needs someone to make sure he sleeps and eats. I don’t think I’ve seen him eat anything that didn’t come out of a slurpy pouch.”
“You know he can hear you right?” You asked as you messed up her already messy hair.
“So? It’s all true! Oooh maybe you can get him to wear something besides black!”
“Ashido, that’s enough. Go and prepare for tomorrow,” Aizawa said in a firm tone. “Same goes for everyone else.”
You laughed as her pout continued all the way to the elevators. Kaminari and Shoji were soon to follow. Most of the students made their way out of the common areas shortly after, leaving just you and Aizawa. Not wanting to get into any sort of debate with the very judgy man, you too started to go up. Only for Aizawa to follow you. For a moment you had the insane hope that he wasn’t actually following you but that was dashed the moment the elevator returned.
“You can fix bones even if they’ve already healed,” he pointed out.
You nodded, pressing the number for your floor.
“We’ll start there tonight.”
Okay. Hold the phone.
“But it’s not an emergency,” you reminded him of his own quip against you. “How am I any better than a vigilante if it’s not an emergency?”
The look he gave you was very teacher-y. Which only made you purse your lips at him. You weren’t one of his students no matter how much of a child he thought you. Still…it was a very effective look. You could feel exactly how he got his students to behave in that gaze. Very authoritative.
By the time the elevator opened again you were just happy to escape. Though escape was relative considering that the very lethargic teacher was keeping pace with you. After everything that had happened, that was a little irritating. You flopped down onto the couch and stared at him; the kind of stare that demanded an answer. He wasn’t exactly a talkative person but you would have thought that he’d offer some sort of explanation at this point.
“Weren’t you the one who scolded me over using my quirk beyond the limits of my license?” You prompted him verbally, seeing as he apparently wasn’t getting the look on your face. “You called me a child I believe.”
“I said you were childishly insisting on breaking the law.”
“Which you’re asking me to do right now. How is it any different?”
“The U.A campus has special allowance. As long as you’re on campus using your quirk under instruction, you’re complying with the law.”
You huffed and folded one of your sock covered feet up onto the couch, holding your knee in a comfortable position. “You’re splitting hairs. What about helping Toshinori then?”
“Despite retiring, he still draws a lot of media attention,” Aizawa grumbled as he took a partial seat on the arm of your couch. “Healing him could bring attention to your quirks capabilities. In the current climate that could be dangerous.”
“Because I’m young and villains might want to force me to use it,” you said dryly, leaning to the back of your couch with your side.
Aizawa nodded. “Or take it.”
“…take my quirk?” You asked with a frown. “It’s not like it’s my clothes or something, Aizawa…they can’t just force me to take it off and give it to them.”
Though someone might figure out a way to pull the spider web thin tendrils from your body. You imagined it would take a while for those to grow back. Not to mention that sounded incredibly painful.
Aizawa made some sort of huffing sound as he planted his feet more stably. He dropped his arms to his side. After a moment, the darkly dressed man completely stood back up. He motioned for you to follow. You might have still been irritated at him but you found yourself complying. You weren’t sure if it was habit or curiousity that motivated you but whatever it was fell flat when you realized he was just leading you to your bed.
At which point your expression bottomed out.
“You realize that’s my bed, right?” You asked, not bothering to bring up the fact that he’d basically instructed you to follow him to said bed.
“Yes,” Aizawa responded before adding, “I’ve broken a lot of bones over the year.”
That much you knew.
“So why aren’t you sitting down?” You motioned back towards the couch. You hadn’t gotten far before you realized where he was going after getting up.
“As you said, this way is more practical,” Aizawa said as he started to unwrap the capture weapon from around his upper body.
Why was it when he shoved your words back at you, that it was okay but when you tried to do it in reverse, he had another argument ready? You narrowed your eyes on him as he quickly undid his bandage-like weapon. You seriously considered telling him no for a moment. Your tongue stilled in place as you got distracted. Instead of telling him to go shove the tape up somewhere…you simply turned around to give him a modicle of privacy.
God damn abs. God damned sexy undressing arc.
See, this is why you had people get undressed behind a privacy screen and not in front of your bed. And it’s also why you didn’t just go for the most effective route every time. Despite your talents you were still a hot blooded young adult and pro heros, by majority, were built and cut as fuck.
Just because Aizawa hid it better than most didn’t make that untrue.
