Kiba flagged his little brother over to him. He'd arrived at the park first, and sat on a bench watching a dance troupe either attempt to make a living or get enough for lunch. They weren't half bad, but he was half paying attention, so they likely weren't especially good either. What would he know? He's certainly no dancer. A floor would dismantle itself to get away from his skills, rather lacking skill. It was ten minutes before he and his brother decided to meet up. Kiba wanted to catch up, reminesse, berate for underage drinking and less-than-smart behavior and choices. The usual.
Toboe smiled when he saw his brother. He came early to avoid being late, but it would seem he was beat to it. The young man looked off a distance then waved to someone he knows before joining Kiba on the bench. "Hey, Kib'."
"Is that all you have to say to me?" He waved a hand at the grass. "Shouldn't you be on your knees apologizing?"
"On my knees? What? Why?" He sat on the bench. "Because I broke up with Tsume? Why should I apologize?"
Now it was Kiba's turn to be confused. Who said anything about Tsume? "I'm talking about the posts.. the partying, the underage drinking." He was sure to stress that part.
"Drinking?" Toboe thought for a moment, then he smiled into laughter. "Oh, that."
"Ahahaa, yeah, that." Kiba replied nog finding anything humorous about it. He would admit to the temptation of cigarettes and alcohol when he was younger. With everything happening, who'd blame him for wanting the internal abuse? But, he did not give in. And he was not about to let Toboe. "So, what's the story? Who talked you into it. I'll kill them, reprimand you, get you back home, and we can just wipe the slate clean."
Toboe rolled his eyes. Kiba and Tsume. For Pete's sake, why was everyone so hot to dictate his existence? He couldn't even run his own bath water, and he was fourteen! True, he didn't know the reason for the tepid water, but had Kiba just given him a mature conversation he would have understood and looked after himself.
He let out a sigh to calm himself. "Kiba, please don't be dramatic." He reached into his bag extracting a can. "It was non-alcoholic. I wouldn't drink. I know how dumb it makes people act; on top of that, you finally decided to treat me as an equal.. I wouldn't blow it by acting like a delinquent because others do."
Kiba looked over the can. It was true. There was no alcohol. It was just fruit juice, when one gets down to it. He handed back the can.
"Feeling pretty dopey, huh?" He smiled slyly.
"Sorry." Kiba said easily. "You can't blame me for worrying. You're in college now, you have older people doing things allowed at their age around you.. It's bound to happen."
"It won't. And even if it should happen, it would only be one time. And I would ask you."
Kiba scoffed. "Right. Because you've got such a pro-level of doing that under your belt." He added. "You'd do it, and afterwards tell me."
Toboe felt a blush. He does kind of have that habit.
Kiba asked recalling the misunderstanding earlier in the conversation. "You broke up with Tsume?"
"Yeah." Toboe dropped his volume a bit. "It's an odd adjustment, but, I'm doing my best."
"Why?" He really wanted to ask how had the man hurt him.
However, he figured a generic questioning was better, lest Toboe go back into defense mode to protect the creep. That was also annoying habit of his brother's. Toboe and Tsume could argue, he'd hurt him, Kiba would ask why and rather than having someone hate Tsume along side of him, he'd defend him as if it was his fault. Classic Stockholm syndrome. It happens even in non-volatile relationships. Too much codependent behavior. Although, Kiba supposed that was his fault. He gave Toboe no room for indepent exploring.
"He wouldn't give me trust without doubt."
"He thought you were cheating?"
"Huh?" Toboe shook his head. "No. This guy is kinda stealing from me, and sorta assaulted me - - but I can handle it myself." He waved his hands to staunch the tightening of his brother's jaw and the crease between his forehead. "He put a security guard of his on me without asking. It was rude of him to baby me like that." He shrugged. "I just needed some space from the smothering."
"Toboe... Believe me, I'm the last person who'd want this thing with Tsume to resume, but what he did wasn't wrong."
"Should have known you'd side with it." To Toboe Kiba was the biggest credited in his life of suffocation towards his personal growth.
Tsume had stopped it by his treating him as a person when he was younger. True, because of Tsume he grew up quite quickly, but it wasn't unappreciated. He'd never explored his personal life, not in goals, hobbies, especially sexuality. He's never even masturbated. His friends have gone on about it, but he had no real interest. Tsume gave him everything he could ever want in freedom to choose.
But, now... even he has joined the crew of overbearing loved ones. He loves all of them too, but he would never overstep that love by placing ownership or to control them to it.
"Kiba, I know you wanna look out for me. But, I can take care of myself."
"This person assaulted you." He sniped.
"It was a sneak attack, and it was nothing more than a really gross kiss." Toboe traded expressions with his brother, before saying. "Look, I'm fine. Nothing has happened since then; and I really do know how to defend myself. I'm learning how to box, and my coach says I'm pretty good."
"I'll be at ease when you're Creed Jr." Grumps the older Wolf.
"Sooner than later, you're gonna have to let me hurt." He rubbed his brother's shoulder.
"Hey, is this guy bothering you, Toboe?" Gasper asked after coming over to them suddenly.
He watched the exchange while performing with his crew. He would have left midway, but Toboe seemed to have a handle on it.
"And who are you supposed to be?" Kiba asked barely sparing the young man a glance.
"Gasper Lee, Toboe's best friend." And he crossed his arms to garner authority. "And who are you?"
"This is my brother, Kiba." Toboe said on Kiba's behalf.
"Oh, you're Kiba!"
'Tch. You changed your tune awful quick. What a hothead. Toboe's friends with this guy?' Kiba stood from the bench. "No more photos of you drinking, it gives off the wrong impression."
"Aye aye, captain." Toboe saluted. He stood and hugged his brother.
While he has his ear, Kiba whispered. "Seriously, bro, please look out for yourself. If someone is harassing you, you can't take it lightly."
"I don't." He moved out of the hug. "I'll see you tonight at dinner. I'll even cook."
"That's kinda cruel, considering how much I care about you."
"Ha ha. I can make stuff." He smiled when his brother tousled his hair. He noticed the scrutiny Kiba gave to his roommate before walking off. "You don't make a good first impression. Try to do better, if you ever meet Hige. He's a master of antagonizing."
"Sorry. I just know there's someone out there who's willing to violate my friend and it's not fair." Squeezing Toboe's shoulder lightly, he adds. "I'll be here or there to back you up when needed."
"If needed. He could have got what he wanted and will back off."
"Let's hope so."

Kiba Wolf wasn't usually the nosy type. Mostly because he didn't care about anything that didn't immediately effect him or his family. Which is why he found himself accepting a meeting with Tsume who called him shortly after his leaving Toboe; he was on his way home on foot, since he had walked over. It was one of those rare beautiful days in Freeze City, so he took advantage. His phone buzzed and showed a message. He didn't even know Tsume had his number.
The text asked if they could talk. And where to meet. Before he would have laughed and replied with: No. However, knowing a bit of the context to the cryptic message he agreed. After going home to grab his bike, he went to the meeting place Tsume had mentioned. It was almost like a large warehouse. Brownish orange, a solid metal brown door. Window, but they seemed unreachable to easy access.
Kiba waited six minutes, and was beginning to think Tsume had just been screwing with him. However, the door opened and a bunch of people, whom he recognized from television stepped out. Wolf surmised that this must be the rehearsal building for the drama. Tsume was the twelfth person out the door. He looked miserable, to say the least. From the distance, Kiba watched the actor who plays Tsume's secret lover making attempts to cheer him up.
'They look pretty close. Maybe Tsume cheated on him, and Toboe was trying to save-face by making up some story about his being controlling.' Kiba just didn't see the problem.
He would do no less if someone was harassing his brother, and he was made aware of it. Toboe was lucky to have it just be Tsume's personal bodyguard. He, as a concerned brother unable to be everywhere all at once, would have a cop watching Toboe. That would be grounds for complaint and embarrassment. At least, in Kiba's eyes it would be, if the shoe was on the other foot. If he saw one of Hige's co-workers pressing up on him like that, that person would be dragged into a fight. Verbally and physically. And Hige would be in the doghouse if he didn't look to be warding off the obvious want for attention from the punching bag.
He moved closer, unseen in his approach; he then could hear the conversation clearly.
"Let's just tell everybody," Aabroo was saying. "It would make things easier."
"I'm done for the day, Smith, give it a rest." Replied Tsume. He'd see the guy on set in a couple hours anyway, why overrehearse?
Kiba made his presence known by proximity and a glare to the actors.
"You came by bike?" Tsume questioned. He walked towards his car. "You want a ride, or will you bike home?"
"Bike's fine." He replied. Because it was. "Where are we talking?"
"Bye, Mr. Keina!" One of the actresses called. She received an acknowledgement through glance.
Tsume told Kiba to climb into his car; his bike was stored in the trunk, then he was taken to a juice bar. He ordered a white grape plum. Tsume ordered a simple orange juice. They sipped quietly in their own thoughts. Finally, after half a glass, Tsume decided to tell him why they were enduring each other's company without a buffer.
"Have you seen Toboe this past two weeks?" He asked somberly.
"Yeah." Not because he wanted to respond so much as he liked the dig that Tsume has not seen his brother. "I take it you saw the SM posts?"
"No. Hige told me about it." He scoffed. "Who tries to act cool with non-alcoholic beer?"
Kiba felt a relief that he wasn't the type to easily show his feelings. It would have been obvious, his own embarrassment of believing Toboe had consumed the 'real deal'. "Yeah."
Tsume quieted again. It looked like he was about to be ill. Kiba knows why. He'd be sick, has been sickened by having to ask someone about his own family. "Did he mention us?"
"In a way." Kiba confessed. "What really happened? Did you finally wise up to start dating someone your own age?" He asked in a smug tone, though it was not entirely sincere.
As much as he hated it, his brother and Tsume do seem to genuinely care about each other. He can tell it wasn't just romantically. If it wasn't for the ten year gap, it'd be sweet. Almost.
"He found out about my putting one of my security team on him." Tsume answered easily. "We spoke about it in New York; that stalker business. He's pissed that I had a man on him before that conversation."
Kiba was snowballed. "That's all?" Toboe made it seem like he was hiding something more. But, he sincerely told him the truth. The fight was just because he was being watched.
"He's a prideful guy. Toboe doesn't want to be treated like he can't handle himself... We fought with more words that weren't said..." He sipped his juice. "Then we tried to hurt each other... He stormed out, and I haven't seen or heard from him since."
"Are you asking me to keep tabs on him?" Kiba almost laughed. "For you?"
"No. I'm asking you if you know how I can clear this up and get back in his good graces."
At that he does laugh. This was fully, wholly, too much! Tsume Keina.. after all the bullshit he put him through emotionally, he has the audacity to ask him how to get back into his brother's life! Was the breakup so hard on him that he is currently operating stoned? Mushrooms? CBC vitamins? Drunk on the job, Then off to continue making embarrassing awkward situations. "First, have this bit with a little background story be a comedy sketch to tour with. You could retire night one." He laughed. "Help you get Toboe back.." He smiled. "This moment is my birthday and Christmas. Tsume, I never wanted my little brother anywhere near you." He shook his head. "Why should I help?"
Tsume had expected the reaction. Judging by the surprised look, he seemed to think it would have been bigger. "One thing, is because in spite of your hating me with Toboe, you did keep your voice down; furthermore, you know that Toboe and I belong together."
"Only because he hasn't had the chance to meet anyone else."
"He's had time. The entire time we were apart, we were actually apart." Tsume willingly released that unknown truth. "Toboe was angry about your parents, he said he didn't know how to get over it, not just because of losing them, but because their being gone changed you.
Kiba felt his stomach knot. He did not know this.
"He hated me, but he also loved me. In the end, he broke up with me.. in what I thought was for good... But, when we saw each other at his graduation party.." He trailed off.
Kiba was still processing the previous statement. Just a month back he was gifted back a piece of his past. Hige repaired the damage when he didn't even know that was there. And Toboe sees that damage, that he's tried so carefully to hide. Keep to himself. He knew all along. Kiba wondered if that was why his brother was always so frustrated with him now and then. Always reminding that they're brothers. Kiba is not his parent.
'...I guess Toboe was truly upset about it all. No wonder he was angry at the park.' Kiba squeezed his glass, then eased up. "I hate it. I still hate your existence in our lives... But, I can't deny that it has lessened - - microscopically - - but it has lessened." He looked over at Tsume, but he seemed in his own world.
The guy truly seemed to have no feeling without Toboe now. Kiba would accuse sick obsession. But he was often terrified of losing Hige, even engaged, he still feels like he might slip-up and do something stupid.
"Nevermind. I don't know what I was thinking."
"I'll tell you. But, you already know it,"
"I doubt it."
"Really. Toboe, all his life he's been treated like a kid, by me, our guardians, teachers - - even the school didn't really have any options for middle schoolers" he tisked. "beyond shoving the students outside to a shared space with the elementary school playground during break."
Tsume remembered. All the times he's watched Toboe, he thought that he was younger. It was a recoil. The only thing keeping his sanity intact from doing something against the law.
"I'm kinda responsible for Toboe being so agitated with being told what to do, and constantly monitoring him... I never thought of it from his perspective. He must have felt pathetic and incompetent." Kiba tapped his thumb on the nearly emptied glass of juice. "I was always lying to him about anything to protect him." He locked eyes with Tsume. "If you want Toboe back, just give him space, and trust."
"He won't answer my texts or calls." He looked wounded admitting that to someone who practically hates him. But, it had to be said.
"If there's one thing about Toboe that I do know, and you don't, is that he's incredibly stubborn." He got up from his stool. "If he wants to teach you a lesson, he won't talk to you easily if he knows it's working."
"So you're saying I should ignore him?"
"Yes." Kiba was ready to go.
"And if that doesn't work?"
"Then you're out of luck." He shrugged out his hand.
"Do you want a lift home?"
"No." He has a lot to think about, and doesn't need the loaded air while doing so. "Tsume, if Toboe chooses to stay away from you... Don't bother him. Just let this whole thing end."
"Easy for you to say, you get your happy ending."
Kiba wondered what that meant, but did not explore it through question. He walked out to head for home.

Tsume remained around the city for a bit. Going to random places: a museum, the park - - different from the one Toboe frequented, a bar. Eventually he went home. There was no point in stalling being in the empty space, once so full of light just because his boyfriend could come and go as he pleased. Now it's just a hole to crawl into when he's not needed.
"Dammit, what now?" He wondered out loud when pulling up.
Tsume exited his car after parking. The cop waiting around at the entrance looked over his shoulder then turned to face the man approaching the building.
"Tsume Keina,"
Noticing he wasn't being asked if that was his name, he replied with a nod. "Is this about the stolen bangle?"
"I'm afraid it's more serious than theft." He held a hand out towards a squad car.
Tsume felt a lump form in his throat. Has something happened to Toboe? No. Cops wouldn't contact him, unless Toboe has him listed as an emergency contact should one of the other people in the young man's life be unreachable.
"Tsume Keina, you're coming down to the station under the suspicion of sexual misconduct with a minor."
If anything more was said to him, he couldn't understand it. All he could hear was the sound of blood rushing in his ears.
