Tsume was on his back, panting heavily, somehow sweating despite his being submerged in liquid, as he's trying to stay afloat in the sea of this bizarre situation. On the outside he appears to be his cool, glacial self. Inside, he's twisting in an abyss of death by suffocation. He's dissolving in the rich deepness of the ocean. It's already drowned the volume from his hearing, there's a tiny voice out there, but he can't make out the words. It's stolen his comfort by having him hold his breath just to breathe - - that's, by no means, a way to get oxygen to the brain in order to be coherent to address.. What did the cop say before the monsoon hit him? Oh, that's right... Sexual misconduct. He did no such thing. So why is he being detained, while police officers ransack his home? It makes no sense.
'It doesn't make sense. So tell them that, idiot.' Tsume found his voice, then spoke as calmly as he could. "I must have misheard you, you say I did something to someone that they believe was sexual harassment?"
The cop smirked around his paper coffee cup. Celebrities and their use of words. They know what to say yo make themselves sound smart and innocent, when really it's just a facade. A persona of some role they've previously played or some profound lyric they've written in a song. Nothing new or interesting can be thrown his way. No. Not officer Manning. He nabs 'em, and it sticks. If Tsume is guilty, he'll find himself facing charges and years very soon. And for a long time. He wouldn't be surprised if the allegation was true. Keina's a homosexual now, right? They're desperately depraved. A guy looking the way he does is usually guilty. Ugly guys got too much to lose to break the law. But the pretty ones live entitled.
Yeah. He's gonna enjoy this arrest. Might even take pictures once the cell is closed up.
"You know these two?" He slid a couple photos across the table to Tsume.
Tsume looked at the photos. "Should I?" Because, no, he doesn't. They aren't even forgotten faces. The two boys, looking about ten or twelve, are complete strangers to him.
The officer did not respond to the taunt. He slid another set of photos across the table to Tsume. He watched for a reaction.
"Stranger. And this one is my ex."
"Ex? Pretty convenient. Wanna share what happened?" It was more of an instructed 'do it' invite rather than a polite asking that it be volunteered information.
"Convenient?" Tsume snorted. "Right." With a sigh he answered the question. "Apparently, I loved him more than he loved me."
"Hn. Kinda makes you wanna hurt him, doesn't it?" Interrogated the officer.
"No." He then asked. "Is there a reason why I'm here?" He crossed his arms and smirked. "Or is this some sick ploy to get a one-on-one with me? It wouldn't be the first time a stalker used their job as a means of contact with a celebrity." The cop looked like he was about to yell, but he held it in. "Just give me something to sign so I can be on my way."
That did it. "Listen, you fruit, I hauled you in because you're under suspicion of sexual misconduct. For having relations with a minor."
"What minor?" Challenged Tsume. "Toboe is nineteen."
"He wasn't always nineteen."
Tsume laughed. "This is so stupid. You can't really be suspicious of pedophilia because I've dated someone ten years younger."
"That is exactly what I'm thinking."
"Why?"
"When did you and your boy-toy meet?"
The hair on Tsume bristled. "Don't insult him, he wasn't a boy-toy. And we met at the park over the summer last year, it was brief, but enough for us to know we liked each other."
Word-for-word he repeated the scenario Toboe had made up for their public relationship. Tsume thought it was so ridiculous. Maybe he would have done better, maybe he would have done worse. Who knows. But, it would have sounded less Rom-com had he made it up.
"Is that the truth or the truth as you want everyone to see it?" He cocked a brow. "How long before you slept with him? Hmm? A minute."
"Toboe and I haven't slept together," he said with a cool facade. "We only just started dating this year."
"You fags are all alike." Muttered the officer.
"Fags?" Tsume rolled his eyes. "Pretty crude language for someone who's supposed to have indifferent professionalism." Glad he struck a nerve by the vein suddenly streaking the interrogator's temple. "Officer, I know your type.. And I also know my rights. This is not only harassment but it's slander." Tsume stood. "You're trying to accuse me of some crime I never committed based off of what?"
"An anonymous tip." The cop smirked. "Made by your ex." He produced a slip of paper as if out of thin air, the slid it across the table to him.
Tsume read it twice before passing it back. "That's b.s. and you know it." He retorted. "I never stalked or raped anybody. I didn't even know him until recently."
"Mhmm. And the photo?" He then slid another sheet of paper to him.
Tsume knew what it was without even looking. However, to save-face, he looked down. "This is exactly my point. Do you have any idea how many times my name has been in a tabloid based on rumors? A lot - - moreso since my officially coming out to the public." He shoved the photo away. "This is doctored. I have plenty of Deep Fakes from sickos putting me with my young co-stars, to back me up on that." Leaning menacingly over the table, he snarls. "Be prepared, officer, you're going to be the one needing a lawyer once I leave here."
"Try me." He replied with a sneer.
Tsume could tell the man's bravado was a bluff. He was proud of his impenetrable poker face. Well, impenetrable to anyone but Toboe. He never hid or lied to him about his feelings no matter how fucked up they were - - especially to lay onto a middle schooler. He wouldn't erase their meeting, but he'd like to alter their past a bit. Just a bit.
"If that's all, I'll be leaving."
"Yeah, that's all. But let me tell you this, Mr. Keina... Your ex seems to be pretty upset about your breakup, if he would go so far as to throw suspicion of a sex offender your way." He glared. "Someone close to you... They always know something the public doesn't know."
Tsume shook his head to the comment, simply repeating his earlier threat. "Call your lawyer." He then walked out of the station.
That was an hour ago. He's now back at the apartment. Angry. Sulking. Feeling violated, because he noticed things had been moved. It was obvious cops were searching his place while he was being questioned. Luckily, he doesn't have a copy of the damning photo anywhere in his home. Nor does he still havr the photos of Toboe from his old desktop. That thing was scrapped years ago. And upon his dating the object of his desire and affection, he felt no need to keep such ridiculous things such as photoshop edits. He's not a giggling school girl.
He looked at the Twitter feed. The comments on Toboe's account. People liking and cheering his college "party side". Others asking him if he's single. If they could date. It was utter nonsense. But to see Toboe post something like that. The photo. The accusation that he uses his agency to cover up his perversions... It's too much for a simple fight over freedom. Toboe betrayed their trust, not his alone, but theirs as a couple. How could he do it? Why?
'Had I really made him feel so unloved and small that he decided to knock me down a peg to retaliate, and see how it feels?' He wondered. "Why do we always end up like this? Fighting... hurting each other." He asked no one. 'Although, my damage to him was never intentional. I didn't mean to start that fatal fire. I didn't mean to put a rift between him and his brother at the time. I didn't mean to hurt him by having him know the truth about everything. I guess his underlying hatred still firmly exists.' He looked at his phone, willing it to ring from Toboe getting back to him. It remained silent.
Tsume sipped his coffee, wishing it was a lot stronger. Toboe has never held back with him in regard of speaking his mind. So for him to do this, that is low. Too low. 'Toboe wouldn't do this to me. It has to be some accident... Maybe he assumed he was speaking to someone privately, when it was put into the general area.' He didn't believe that, even if that was possible. Toboe isn't tech illiterate. He wouldn't make the mistake. He would, but not Toboe.
'I'd be more sure of that if he'd answer my call or texts.' He took another sip. 'Knowing that smartass cop, he bugged the place.' Good luck. Tsume Keina has nothimg to hide. Apart from history. And you can't invade on that, you can only be told.
He was going to be sick. If there was ever a time to regret his past mistakes it was now. He doesn't so much care about his career going down in flames over this, but the other actors. His friends will be affected. His friendships. He never had anything with his family, so he doesn't care on that end. And Toboe. If this is, or even isn't, some cruel fluke, it will hurt him especially. Between perverts thinking he's a Fuck-boy, any normalcy for him will be shot. He'll be pitied. Constantly asked stupid questions. Whispered about. Toboe is personable, but no one is immune to emotional crowd surfing.
He was over it. It hit ten but he still had no reply. With a heavy heart and full aggravation, he trudged up to bed to sleep.
At the Wolf house.
Toboe went from the couch to the floor, resting over the coffee table with his forearms. He is, along with his brother and Hige, watching a movie while eating dinner. It's cold, so they're having large pot pies and hot cider.
This movie was really odd, and he couldn't tell whether or not he liked it or disliked it. Nor does he have a pinpoint of whether or not it's good or bad, scary or funny. It is one of the most original horror films he's ever seen. And it's all based on this gross house that was wrongfully rented as an Airbnb.
Toboe tried to imagine what it would feel like being nice with this guy that you, by accident, had to share the place with. Then to find out some ghoulish thing lives in the basement, and by stupidity got the guy killed. It was sad. It was scary.
"Who's this guy?" Hige wondered.
The movie just jumped to a stranger. What happened to the woman?! The trio were half way through their meal, and it was growing colder as they ceased eating while trying to wrap their heads around the horror film.
Toboe glanced at his phone. The screen kept flashing. It must have been glowing from vibration. It's on the floor beside him, and his shifting could be causing it to blink on as if touched for use. The movie was nearing the end, and the trio were cracking each other up with comments to the characters, or just laughing from the dialogue.
By the end of the movie, and dinner, Toboe finally retrieved his phone to check out what was going on. He read a few texts from Gasper, Cheza, and Leara. He answered Cheza's texts then told her to watch the movie that he briefly described.
Toboe felt a pit forming in his stomach. A good five texts were from Tsume. There was even a missed call. He, at first, thought there must be something going on. There was an emergency. But, why would anyone call him? He's no contact for emergency. But, then again, he might be listed. If, by chance, it was life threatening.
He looked at his family, they're distracted laughing about the film with each other. So he quietly excuses himself and headed into the study to look over the messages.
Tsume: Toboe, we need to talk. Please call me.
Tsume: Are you ignoring me? I understand, fine, but we need to talk.
The missed call. Then another three texts.
'Probably thinks I've gone off the deep end, like Kiba.' He rolled his eyes. 'It wasn't alcohol. Get over it.' But, still...
He bit his bottom lip, then typed a quick: What do you want? Toboe waited for a response. If the messages were that urgent, and Tsume, as he put it, needed to talk to him, he got no instant response. He wasn't about to play this game of push and pull. So he left it at the one message. He returned to the living room, and sat on the couch. He would have stayed the night, but wasn't really in the mood to sleep on the couch.
"Toboe, you make up with Tsume yet?"
"No. Why should I?"
"Because you broke up with him - - duh." He rolled his eyes to Kiba. "The nerve of this kid."
"Hey, this is my year of many FTE's, and even though it's strange, I'm not gonna freak myself out about it and go back to Tsume." He sighed. "I'm more than just Tsume's boyfriend, and I don't need to be with him, or anyone."
"I guess. I'm gonna have my first time ever with Kiba soon, so at least get along with Tsume until the "I do's' are over."
"Yeah, yeah."
Kiba suddenly recalled his conversation with Tsume. He had stamped it down when it became too distracting. He doesn't need anymore emotional rabbit holes to jump down. Not when things are going so good for him. And as Hige mentioned, their approaching FTE wedding. "Toboe, can we talk? Just for a minute."
"Sure," he made to get up but Hige stopped him.
"No, no, I'll go. I'll wash the pan or something." He exited the living room to do just as he'd stated.
Kiba took a seat beside his brother. "Toboe, why didn't you tell me that you and Tsume argued in Rome?"
"Because it was between us..." He suddenly blushed. "And I don't really remember it..."
"Why?"
Toboe picked at the arm of the sofa. "Ok. It was too long ago to matter, but... I was drunk."
Kiba let out his feelings about that confession with a quiet tap of his finger to his knee. "Why were you drunk?"
"I was at the house waiting for Tsume to get off work, and I wanted a drink." He felt like a 16 year old all over again. He's 19 now. He should be able to laugh with his brother about such foolish times. Not be made to feel insecure and, almost stupid. "I drank some tea, not knowing it was a Long Island that Faye made for herself."
Toboe was startled right then because his brother suddenly, sincerely, laughed.
"It's not funny, I threw up on Tsume."
His brother laughed harder then.
Reigning him in, he asked. "I take it you saw Tsume in the city - - how did he look? Was he devistated?" He perked for an answer that would satisfy him.
He's trying to be cool about all this, but really... He misses him. It's been what? Two months! Why only now has Tsume contacted him - - well, tried to, just to leave him unread. He can't be asleep, he's a night owl. Maybe he gave up when he didn't respond right away. In a sense, to help his resolve to be treated equally because of this 'strike' of sorts, he's glad he missed a chance to respond. It shows that he's serious. And he'll make first contact between them when he's ready.
"Honestly, he looked miserable." He sorta lied. He could sense Tsume was miserable simply because the man was distracted. Otherwise, he looked as isual. Not that he studied Tsume Keina much. But, anytime he's met his eye it was looked back upon with bored indifference.
Toboe was satisfied with that response. "He texted me and called. I had my phone on silent while we ate... Kiba.. Do you..?" He began but was cut off.
"Don't ask me that." He said quickly. "You know I never liked or wanted you two together. This breakup, separation, pause or whatever is going on is my whole life right now." He confessed, regrettably because he knows his brother's personality. Something like this will bridge that wedge created between the odd pair. But he didn't bite his tongue in time. "I didn't then and still don't think Tsume is right for you, especially when you take into consideration our past and his involvement... But.. I can't pretend that you two aren't happy together, aside from right now. If I think you're making a mistake.. yes. But, that doesn't mean that it isn't a good thing."
Toboe made a face that spoke without words.
"You only know Tsume.. There are dozens of guys your own age to be with, or even girls - - you could be bi, who knows. But it proves my point." He pats his brother's knee. "Tsume is the only person you were with. He chose you, and you went with it because of me.."
"Why do you think that?"
"I smothered you. So, naturally you rebelled... If I had just done things more as your brother than a guardian, you could have.."
"What? Been normal?"
"I was going to say, enjoy your childhood." Kiba sucked in a breath then let it out. "I'm not sorry for caring for you, but I am sorry that I made you scared to be independent."
Toboe furrowed his brows. That made no sense to him. He's not afraid.
"You may not see it, but you are." He looked his brother in the eyes rather than the forehead. He saw a sad young man, but a strong one too. "Tsume was the gates of paradise compared to my brass enclosure."
Toboe smile faintly. "That's not true."
"It's true. Don't baby me."
"Me? Baby you? Never." He snickered. "It'd be too delightful."
Kiba smiled but it faded. "Really. I'm sorry for making you run."
"But, really.."
"Really. I'm the reason you have this hang-up about others making decicions for you. Look at why you're fighting with Tsume... it's just because he wanted to protect you without telling you."
Toboe sighed. Kiba was making an annoying amount of sense. "I'm sorry for always being a pain. And, despite what you and Gasper think, or even the rest of my friends, I really do love Tsume. He may be my first, and who knows, maybe there could be others.. But, I love him right now - - just as much as then.."
"Damn it."
"What?"
"I think I might have helped you two reconcile."
"Well... Maybe a little."
"I'll try not to cry later tonight."
Toboe snickered. "I'm still gonna make him stew for lying to me, but, I'm gonna see him again." He grabbed his phone. "Just not right away."
"Date around, you're young."
"Date around? What are you, a brother?" He smacked him upside the back of his head then bolted before the couch pillow could reach him.
Kiba walked into the kitchen, sidling up on Hige. "Hey. Done cleaning?"
"Yeah. Done talking?"
"Yeah."
"Runt leaving?"
"Eventually," he walked over to the table. "He's probably gonna call Tsume,"
"Really? What happened?"
"I unfortunately got them back together."
Hige nodded. "That was really cool of you, Kib',"
And he hated to admit it.. It felt good. And Tsume will protect Toboe from this mystery stalker. He'd like to get his hands on the creep himself. He's had his fill with people stalking his little brother.
