Chapter 25: Halloween Fun
Matt leaned a little closer to the mirror as he worked on the finishing touches for his make-up. He used both a brush and his thumb to blend it more evenly around his eyes, which had white contacts in to give him a more ghastly appearance. Red stains around his mouth and trailing down to his chin were made to resemble dried blood, and luckily he had already finished the modifications necessary on those. Once he believed he had gotten it to his satisfaction he took a couple steps back to get better look at his appearance as a whole. Every centimeter of visible skin was altered to look pale and pasty with random blotches of putrid yellow to simulate to beginnings of decay. He wasn’t entirely satisfied with the patch above his left eye, though, so he grabbed his brush again and leaned forward to fix it.
A moment later he heard a loud rapping on the bathroom door. “Come on, Matt, hurry up!” the male voice whined. “What’s taking you so long? You promised to help me with my costume, too, and I want to get my free candy before midnight!”
“I don’t take that long,” the blonde replied indignantly, setting the brush back down and observing his work from afar again. Pleased with the way it looked this time, he did one last look-over before smiling and opening the bathroom door. Waiting rather impatiently on the other side was a slightly smaller blonde wearing dark clothes and a black, high collared cape. Despite Matt’s attempts to get him to choose something less common (including a joke of letting him borrow the Lolita dress) he wasn’t able to convince his little brother from going Trick or Treating as a general vampire. At least the boy didn’t decide to be something like Edward Cullen, though. “Besides, your make-up isn’t going to take that long since you don’t want anything elaborate.” TK’s glare told him that didn’t matter, he just wanted his brother to hurry. Sighing and shaking his head, he added, “Come on, let’s get you done at the kitchen table.”
They were still at the table fifteen minutes later when they heard the front door open. “Don’t let me invite you in,” Matt yelled from the kitchen, finishing up the last touches of white on the new vampire’s face for the fifth time. So much for it not taking much time. Although, with how meticulous his brother was when it came to looks TK figured fifteen minutes wasn’t so bad.
The figure that came into the apartment was shrouded in a long gatekeeper cloak with the hood pulled down so far the entire face was shadowed. Stopping so he was centered in the only doorway leading out of room, long-handled scythe parallel to his body, the visitor said in a deep voice, “Not many would invite Death into their home so willingly.”
Rolling his eyes in amusement, the blonde waited a minute before asking, “Seriously Tai, can you be any more corny?” drawing a chuckle from the hooded person.
Throwing the dark hood back, it revealed wild brunette spikes, chocolate eyes, and a large, goofy grin. “If you really want me to be, yeah,” he replied with a smirk.
“That was not a challenge,” Matt responded, shaking his head slightly at his boyfriend’s antics and turning back to his brother. “Oh, just hold still a second. I have one last spot to touch up and then you can go you little mongrel.”
“You do realize that I’m only wearing this for one night and it’s dark outside so no one is going to notice if the spot on my forehead under my bangs is slightly less white than the rest of my face?” TK asked in annoyance, not nearly as detail oriented as the older blonde. “By the way, is Kari here?” he directed at the brunette, nodding to his brother when he motioned he could get down now.
“Yeah, she’s still in entryway,” Tai stated, jabbing a thumb back over his shoulder. He stepped to the side as the boy approached, allowing him to squeeze by before taking a step onto the linoleum floor. “Two undead monsters, huh?” he asked.
Smiling in answer, Matt pulled the hood over his and crouched with one hand on a knee and the other on the floor. He was wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, black boots, and brown, baggy jeans. White bandages were tied just above his elbows and wrists, as well as one around his left ankle and right thigh. To complete the ensemble, he had applied fake claws colored to look stained with dried blood. “I decided on being a Hunter long ago,” he replied, closing the gap between them and slinging one arm around the other teen, turning him back towards the living room. “Now I think we should get going before my brother throws another fit.”
Their younger siblings were both waiting for them at the door when they got in the room, holding a candy bag in each hand. “Hurry up you two,” the only female of the group complained. She hadn’t removed her shoes because part of her costume went over it. Perched atop her head were two red-orange and black ears, the headband hidden in her soft brown hair, and the tip of her nose was painted black. Her short-sleeve shirt and snorts had the same shade of orange, though a V section of the chest was white. A large, fluffy tail was tacked to the seat of her pants, the last fifth also colored white. Her leg warmers cinched above her knees and flared out over her shoes, and her arm warmers covered from just above her elbows and covered her hands. Both of them were half orange and half black, with the ends looking like paws. In one of those paws she was holding out one of the two bags she was holding for the Reaper.
“You’re cute, Kari,” Matt told her sweetly.
“I’m a fox!” she announced happily, punching one paw in the air after Tai took his bag. “Gatomon really wanted me to be a cat, but it is so overdone, kind of like a vampire,” she jested, elbowing her boyfriend in the side as they walked out the door. “So where are we meeting up with the others?”
“Agumon made me promise to bring him back some candy before I ate it all,” Tai added as his blonde locked the apartment. “What about you two?”
“I nearly had to sneak out because Patamon wanted to come with me,” TK replied, starting down the hall. “He kept insisting he could just roll in some black paint and come along as a bat.”
Laughing at his brother’s Digimon, Matt stated, “Gabumon is currently in the Digiworld, but I promised him I’d keep some chocolate out of Tai’s reach for him. And we’re going to Cody’s store,” he added in response to Kari’s question.
The trip down the few blocks was passed with idle conversation and jokes. They hadn’t even gotten any candy yet and Tai was already trying to bargain with TK for the Crunch bars he was going to get. There was no need to talk with Matt about this since they would just share it in the end anyway. As they started approaching the store the four could see they were nearly the last ones there. Their friends were all standing outside as they waited, and the aforementioned boy was the first one to see them. Saying something to the other, he was too far away for the four to hear but they got the gist of it when he pointed them out. He was dressed in tattered clothes with green paint on his skin and fake bolts tacked to his neck. For a Frankenstein he certainly wasn’t very intimidating. Beside him, and obviously unwilling to take off her signature hat, was Yolei. She had tan pants and a brown leather jacket, high boots, and aviation goggles on her head. The blonde knew he should know just who she was dressed up as, but the name was just at the tip of his tongue.
“Matt!” their pink haired companion yelled, waving one arm excitedly at the approaching quad. Her outfit was somewhat elaborate, with a white and tan tunic, light brown miniskirt, and belted, brown, knee-high boots. She had a black sleeve on her left arm, along with a gloves and what was most likely— “I’m Lightning, see?” she inquired loudly, a large smile on her face as turned to pose. “From Final Fantasy thirteen. I needed to find someone with pink hair, and I liked her outfit.”
“She’s a little too cheery for Lightning, though, isn’t she?” the red brunette beside her asked. Sora was wearing a white and pink Lolita dress decorated with lollipops. Holding her hair back was what looked like licorice ties and bowtie hard candy hair clips.
Chuckling, the older blonde jested, “Careful, Sora, or Tai might just eat your costume.”
Looking at the brunette, who was currently drooling and debating on whether or not he should try to remove one of the mints from her hair, she laughed, “He might not want to. Some of these sweets are over five years old. I don’t really think they’re edible anymore.”
“You have to remember he eats the cafeteria food,” Jyou pointed out.
“Oh, you’re an evil scientist,” Kari said cheerfully. Their blue-haired friend was wearing ordinary clothes and a long, white lab coat.
“No, I’m a pharmacist,” he corrected, a slightly irate undertone in his voice.
“Sorry,” the girl replied sincerely, leaning around him to look at the last of the group currently gathered. Izzy’s costume was the most elaborate so far. Had Matt chosen a more intricate design he probably would have beaten the computer genius, after all it took him seven hoodies and just over four weeks to make his outfit just perfect, but the Hunter’s attire was relatively simple. For Halloween Izzy had pulled out his Kingdom Hearts 2 Sora cosplay.
“He chose that costume because I made him come and he was too lazy to make something,” Izzy stated. “So now we’re just waiting for—”
“Sorry we’re late!” Davis called, interrupting his classmate. Okay, Izzy’s outfit was coming in as a tie or very close second. “I had to sneak out around Veemon because he wanted to come with.” Speaking of Veemon, Davis’ choice of costume was actually his Digimon’s Armor Digivolution, Flamedramon. No one doubted that he had spent weeks crafting the armor pieces and finding just the right color blue for the body of his outfit. He was kind enough to spare them the sight of spandex, but it still fit together so perfectly that they could barely tell where the shirt ended and the pants began.
“Patamon wanted to come along, too,” TK said, chuckling a little under his breath. “He even tried to convince me that he’d make a good bat for my costume.”
“I tried to tell Veemon that since I was dressed as one of his Digivolutions that it was practically like he was here with me, but that didn’t seem to work,” Davis laughed. Glancing around at the other costumes, he stopped on Jyou and asked, “An evil scientist, huh?”
Gasping in frustration, the bluenette growled, “Why does everyone keep thinking that? I’m a pharmacist!” Looking a little more closely at the boy who just arrive, he asked, “Didn’t you say ‘we?’”
Looking to his right, Davis noticed his boyfriend wasn’t there and sighed. “Ken, get out from behind my back,” he said, amused.
“I’m having second thoughts about this costume,” the younger bluenette admitted shyly.
Tai was the one who noticed something off about Davis’ costume. From what he remembered Flamedramon did not have a choker like the one Davis was wearing. It almost looked like… “Davis, is that a…?” he asked, trailing off at the end.
A big grin on his face, although it couldn’t be seen behind the armor-like mask he was wearing, the younger leader quickly sidestepped to reveal his boyfriend’s costume. Ken’s usually neat hair was ruffled and messy and he had dark, yellow-rimmed goggles on his forehead. He wore gold-yellow shoulder plates and a dark violet twin-tailed cape, outlined in the same color as the shoulder pads. Grey boots and gloves covered his hands and feet with large cuffs on his ankles and wrists, and a grey and gold belt around his waist. The last piece of his outfit was a mostly light-blue-purple jumpsuit with white and grey accents. “Yep,” Davis replied cheerfully to Tai’s question, “it’s a dark ring. The Digimon Kaiser has to have someone under his control, right?”
Ken was dressed up as his Kaiser persona.
“Wow, for a second there I thought you’d gone evil again,” TK jested, a wide smile on his face. The rest of his friends smiled as well, easing the anxiety that had been building up in the former Kaiser. It seemed that Davis was right, and using his former self as a costume wasn’t going to step on anyone’s toes. “Now I believe we all got dressed up for a reason, right? Let’s go get some candy!”
It was several hours later that the two death bringers strolled through the door to Matt’s apartment. Not even bothering to take their shoes off they closed the door and hurried around the couch to dump their heavy bags out on the floor. Had it only been the blonde he was sure the stash would last him until next Halloween, but Tai just plowed through candy, so with him it would be lucky to last a month. His brunette lover was already starting to sort them into piles of their own ilk when Matt asked, “Do you want something to drink?”
“Ooh, coke please,” he replied quickly, looking up from the pile as his boyfriend walked away. A lustful look in his eyes, Tai waited just a few seconds before he got up to follow.
He had barely opened the fridge when a strong hand grabbed his waist and turned him to the side. A mouth covered his own before he could protest and the blonde soon found himself being guided backwards. The other hand joined the first on his waist after it closed the door, and they both started up under his shirt after he had been backed into the table. “Tai, what are you doing?” Matt panted when Tai moved to trail love bites down his throat.
“I want you, now,” he growled lustfully, massaging the musicians sides with his fingertips until the older male sang.
Matt couldn’t deny that his mind echoed that desire exactly, as was evident by the bulge forming in the front of his trousers. That head didn’t want to wait, but the one that did the thinking kept trying to remind him that they couldn’t do this here.
Luckily, the blonde wasn’t needed to reiterate that. “Boys! Do I have to tell you every place in this apartment that you two can’t do… that?!” Hiroaki asked indignantly, throwing one hand up in frustration. Neither had heard the older man come in but he was now standing in the entryway between the kitchen and the living room. “Geez, as a basic rule of thumb, if it belongs to everyone then it is a no-no.”
Disappointed at being disturbed and still very much aroused, Tai’s mind wasn’t working on all cylinders. “But the wall ‘belongs to everyone’ and Matt let me scr—” he was cut off by a pale hand over his mouth. Matt’s dad looked just about as horrified and embarrassed as he was, not needing Tai to finish his sentence to know what he was about to say.
Face red as the flames he felt burning beneath his skin, Matt hissed, “Just because I let you do me doesn’t mean you need to broadcast it for everyone to hear.”
Smirking at his boyfriend’s embarrassment, he grabbed the slim wrist and pulled it off of his mouth so he could reply, “But you know, Matt, the time with the wall you were beg—”
It took the singer that long to free his other hand to slap over the athlete’s mouth. He wasn’t able to form any words to retort with, and the only thing Hiroaki could manage was a quiet “Too much information,” as he turned and left the room. The glare his blonde was giving him told Tai he was not getting any tonight, but he figure the looks on the other two males’ faces was worth the punishment.
