A/N: I've finished a profile for a flying, poison, and dragon eeveelution. I modeled them after a bulbapedia profile. It doesn't have as much information as bulbapedia but I think it'll do. They include a picture, way to evolve, physical biology section, base stats, type effectiveness box, attacks learned through leveling and TM/HMs, abilities, gender ratios, catch rate and that very basic breeding section you see on the sidebar on bulbapedia pages. However, they're not going to come in yet I just wanted to get them done early in case I think of any tweaks.
Heartfelt Interference
Chapter Twenty-eight
Fear raced up and down your spine as you stared at the proof of what you had just gone through. What you had thought had been gas from the curry had turned into something a bit more painful. The gas turned into cramps which quickly turned into contractions. What was amazing was that once it had gotten to the point of contractions it only took a few minutes before they were over. You still felt a little twinge as you stared at what had come out of you but it wasn't that bad. Actually the whole thing hadn't been that bad compared to what you'd heard about women giving birth before. Then again the thing that had come out of you was maybe about the size of a grapefruit, maybe just a bit bigger. It definitely wasn't the size of a human child. Nor was the majority of the mass solid. In fact even though it was hard to see through the murky liquid, you guessed that only half of it was taken up by the potentially living thing inside.
The round, maroon colored orb was surreal and disgusting all at the same time. It looked nothing like you thought it would. Sure there was a thin umbilical cord attached but it didn't look veiny or anything. Other than the few drips of blood that came from the tiniest of ripping of your opening possible it almost looked clean. That was definitely not something you equated with birth - at least not human births. Then again this wasn't entirely human and you had a feeling that there was a whole different set of rules going on. The only thing was that you had no idea what to expect or where to look for answers. You had never heard of a human giving birth because of pokemon. Hell you'd never truly heard of pokemon and humans copulating; Rorsh was the only being to try and make you believe that it wasn't as impossible as you'd previously believed.
"You alright in there?"
Max's voice made you panic. Your breath caught in your throat and yet you couldn't tear your eyes away from the sac that had just come out of you.
"Tell him to go away," Nox said as he started to growl.
Without looking you knew that Rorsh and Ember were both in agreement, which was rare in and of itself. Slowly your eyes turned towards the only one in the room who had nothing to do with the terrifying situation. Eon looked worried and afraid as he slowly moved into you, his ribbons rubbing up and down your back before wrapping you up.
"Do you need me to get Nurse Joy? Or a regular doctor?"
You tried to take a deep breath. You really did, it was just that it came with more of a hitch than you meant for it to. Which caused you to need to take another one and exhale before you were able to say anything.
"I'm fine, just a really big headache. I'm going to take a shower and try to relax to get it to go away. Go on back to bed, Max. I'll join you soon."
"Over my dead body you will."
You moved your eyes over to Rorsh after he'd spoken such dark words. It took you a moment to realize what your words sounded like but instead of the anger you thought would swell up there was a sense of helplessness that you couldn't repress. The situation was far too much for you to handle. You definitely weren't ready. It was one thing to hatch a pokemon egg and raise it - even kids could technically do that. It was another thing to lay an...could that be considered an egg? Anyways - it had come out of you, whatever it was. Which meant that biologically speaking you were a mother. You were a mother and you were only nineteen years old. If it survived then you'd have to figure out how to...okay, so you knew how to do most things in theory and some things in practice after learning how to raise pokemon for the last nine years but still! It had come out of you and you had no idea what to do.
"Is it human?" you asked in a whisper after you heard Max's uncertain footsteps move away from the door. "Is it alive?"
You might not have been ready for whatever this meant for you, but that didn't mean that you didn't want to know exactly what had happened. Somehow not knowing made it worse right now. At least if you knew something you could start making a plan about what to do.
"It's alive," Ember answered you after he'd moved in closer, his large vermillion ears tuned in towards the bundle. "There's a heartbeat and it's steady. But I'm not psychic - I can't tell what it is."
So somehow it was surviving in the enclosed placenta bubble.
The amount of contradictory emotions and sensation you felt as you stared at the sack was dizzying. Slowly you got up, wincing from the pain, with a little help from Eon. Their ribbons helped you stand up despite the ache and pain that ripped through your body at such an action. Gently you rubbed your hand over one of his ribbons, fingers dancing over the blue, pink, and silver as you stared at the maroon colored blob while Ember's words played out through your mind.
"Rorsh?"
"I can't tell either. It doesn't have any thoughts yet."
How were you going to deal with all of this if you didn't even know what it was you had to deal with? You could inspect it closer, that much was true, but fear of ripping the fleshy membrane somehow kept you from even touching it. The being might be alive right now its containment but you had a feeling that would change if you broke it open. Something told you that would be just like splitting a pokemon egg before it was ready to hatch. Although you truly had no idea how long it could stay alive as it was. Especially considering the fact that you didn't even know what it was.
"Nox, go find a ramen bowl if you can. If you can't then find a bowl with the widest base. Eon get my backpack, it's in the room at the end of the hall on one of the lower shelves. Ember go find a few clean rags and a trash bag."
Even in all of this insanity you knew one thing: you needed to clean up. There was no way that it would be good to leave all this mess on the tile or on yourself. Needless to say you weren't about to send Rorsh away. He was the best defense you had right now in case someone came to ask too many questions. His ability to sense movement and his disregard for other people's right to the privacy of their own mind could only play in your favor right now. It wasn't like he was going to pick up on anything you were thinking because really everything in your head was a mess. There were too many things that had happened within the span of the last twenty minutes for you to really get a grip on one particular thing to worry about other than cleaning up the mess. Which was a pretty good outlet actually because at least then it gave a bit of order to what was otherwise a cluttered mind.
As your eeveelutions slipped out of the bathing room and Rorsh closed the door behind them, you made your way over to the faucet so that you could turn on the cold water. Even if Eon hadn't come back with your backpack you could start the preliminary cleaning. With hands still slightly shaking you grabbed the clothes you had discarded earlier and put them in the water bucket by the faucet. You didn't want the floor of the room to get wet just incase that disturbed the...seriously, could you consider that an egg? Whatever it was, you didn't want to chance messing with its stability so you'd made sure that all the water went into the bucket. You didn't fill it up very much seeing as your jeans alone almost made what little water you put in there slosh over. The more they soaked up though the more you added until it was at capacity. Then you turned it off and waited.
Eon was the first one back thankfully, though you hated how you tensed up when you saw the doorknob turning. Even though on a conscious level you knew that Rorsh would probably be checking and guarding the door the idea that someone was going to walk in frightened you. What if someone did and they somehow understood what had happened? Would they take away your pokemon and ban you from what you'd been trained to do since childhood? Would they try to take you in to be experimented on and examined? What would happen to that poor semi-living cluster on the floor?
The silver and blue pokemon sat your backpack down and, without being told to, got your soap out. It was the homemade kind so it functioned for pretty much everything. Unfortunately you couldn't do much other than start to slowly sit things out until Nox came back. Ember was the second one to come back with some rags and a small bag. It wasn't a trash bag per say but it would do. However, once again you couldn't do much until Nox got back. It felt like hours before the door finally opened to let him in. He sat down the bowl and then backed away best he could. The room wasn't that large to begin with and right now with you and the four eeveelutions it was past practical capacity.
"Rorsh, I need you to be very careful but I want you to put it into the bowl and then keep it off the floor while I clean up."
The espeon nodded and did as you said. For one horrible moment you thought that the semi-solid was going to rupture. While you might have been unaware that you'd been incubating some sort of organism for the last few weeks it wasn't like you wanted to kill it either. At this point you were pretty sure it would be killing at least - your body had decided to give birth to it...sort of. Which meant that it was formed right? You knew from Ember that it had a heart beat and yet you knew from Rorsh that it didn't have any thoughts yet so you really didn't know what to think about it's status as a living being. What you did know was that what's done was done. There was no unknowing what had happened nor unseeing the fact that there was some sort of life form in the intact placenta bubble.
Once the sac was in the bowl and dutifully being held off of the ground by psychic powers you started to scrub down your pants. That was going to take the most of your energy to get clean. Or at least the approximation of clean. You weren't sure you were ever going to look at them the same way again knowing what had happened while you wore them. Unfortunately do to the insane way you had to pack they were pretty much your only pair of outside wear you had with you. When the clothes were clean you hung them up to dry as best they could while you started to work on your own skin. It was the most bizarre thing you'd ever had to do. You couldn't help the nauseous feeling in the pit of your stomach as you cleaned yourself off.
The one thing you had thought had been a saving grace from that morning all those weeks ago had been false. You had gotten pregnant and you'd carried something mildly successfully. It wasn't dead yet at least. The strangest thing about all of that was the fact that you hadn't even known you'd been pregnant. Granted you were a week late for your period but you'd chalked that up to stress. And sure you'd been eating a bit more but wasn't that supposed to be like something that happened after a person's belly swelled up to the size of a pumpkin? You'd put on maybe like five pounds of plus around the middle which Ember had been quick to point out but nothing drastic. It hadn't even looked like an early pregnancy belly.
Then out of nowhere you went into the giving birth stage to something the size of a medium to large grapefruit. Well, not even that really. It was that size with all of the fluids held in the sac which, unlike in all human births, had not split open during the birthing process. Nor did you have anywhere near the amount of pain that you'd read about and heard about from family members. Again, it had been a fairly squishy grapefruit size instead of the body ripping watermelon of a human baby but still...it had happened within the span of ten minutes max. You'd heard of longer contraction times than that.
"What do you want to do now?"
Surprisingly it wasn't Rorsh who'd asked you this question, it was the dark type of the lot. Nox sat in the corner with Ember as far away from the water they could get. Eon had taken a place by Nox in the other available corner, appendage ribbons at the ready in case the older pokemon's powers failed and the bowl started to drop.
"I don't know. I don't want to think about this right now. I can't."
"You're going to have to soon."
"I know that Nox," you snapped as you paused.
Instinctively you grabbed at your stomach as a way of sickness washed over you. The room felt suddenly too cold while your body felt too warm. Yet there was an icy grip traveling from your heart and creeping down to your stomach, making everything in its wake freeze up.
"I don't know what to do okay? I didn't think this was possible."
"Neither did we," Rorsh admitted, not looking away from his charge.
Well at least you weren't alone in that.
"So yeah, right now all I know is that I want to clean up then I want to get to sleep. If that thing can still be alive, if it stays alive, then I know no one else can find out about it. Because if it is alive it wouldn't be for long once some scientists found out about it."
You doubted very much that the whole secrecy around how pokemon had sex would remain a secret once that happened. And you didn't fancy getting turned into an incubation chamber in the name of science either. Especially given that you could already imagine how it would create a whole field of exploitation that you may or may not live to see. Who's to say that scientists wouldn't try pairing you with a monster sized rare male pokemon just to see if it was a viable way to increase certain population size?
You'd practically felt the growl that rippled through Rorsh's chest as he picked up on that last thought. A shudder overtook your body as you waited for the cold grip to abate. It took longer than you would have thought and you're already breathless state was made worse by it.
"I will personally rip out their throats if they try," Rorsh promised you.
You weakly turned to look back at him as you turned off the water. The way that he'd said it was dark but it was some how comforting to hear him say that. The way that Nox sat at an extreme sort of attention was not as comforting. You didn't want to put them on edge exactly - there were some burdens about human society and levels of cruelty that you never wanted to subject them to. In some ways Pokemon represented everything that was pure in this world and you really didn't want to taint that anymore than you already had.
"Try what? Who's trying what?"
Eon's confused question even came with a cute head tilt. You were too tired to do more than lay your hand between his ears to try and let him know that it was alright.
"We'll talk in the morning," you promised all four of them as you tried to find some pajamas. You opted to put on underwear and a few female necessities just incase your body decided to surprise you over night. "Right now I need to sleep. The four of you need to keep this a secret. And one of you is going to have to find Chansey and convince her to lend us an incubator."
"What for?" Nox asked.
"My bet is that if it's used to being inside of my body and seeing as how it's still attached to the lining, that it needs to be kept at a warm temperature. Normally eggs can be kept warm by laying on them or holding them close to share body heat. But I think that will rupture the membrane, killing the…" you were at a lost for words about what to call whatever it was that you had created.
Ember nodded to himself and then made some sort of understanding sound. When he'd moved towards the door and used the trick from earlier to open it back up you took that to mean he volunteered to be the one to go talk to the egg pokemon. Hopefully he was able to do that without drawing the suspicion of Nurse Joy. While a caring pokemon such as the Chansey that worked at this pokemon center might allow Ember to bring you back an incubator without too much of a fuss you doubted the same would be said of the pink haired human attached to this building. You could try thinking of lies in the morning but at the moment you were just too tired to care.
Thankfully you were able to clean up the floor relatively easy. It hadn't been as messy of an affair as it could have been. Not for the first time since you'd started you were glad that despite all the other issues with it, that it wasn't anywhere as messy or as painful of a birthing processes as a normal human one. Now that was something you doubted you'd have been able to keep a secret in a place like this. Once you were done cleaning up you wrapped your wet clothes in the bag so you could take it to the laundry station with the bag that Ember had brought back earlier. The dirty rags had been placed in the shower bucket to soak. You gathered everything in the room that you could and took it to the small laundry room to be found.
Even though all you wanted to do was sleep there were still a few things you had to do before you could manage that.
"Oh wow."
The sounds of your friend marveling over something were the first to wake you up. Feeling like it could be something important you slowly blinked your eyes. You forgot for more than a moment that you weren't in your room. So your first thought was about why Max was in your room while you were sleeping. Gingerly you reached out to make sure that Rorsh and Nox weren't about to jump off the bed to attack him.
Only your arm rolled over something strange. It was smooth and warm, a little hard but at the same time it had a sort of give to it. Slow you sat up, not minding the fact that you were still surrounded by Pokémon instead of covers. What you saw made you pause. Max was near but it seemed he knew better to get within arm distance. That was smart of him. The other thing you realized was that you just had a brown-russet and pale yellow egg in bed with you.
"Morning," you mumbled, pretty sure it was nearly unrecognizable if it hadn't been for the context clues.
"Where did you get the egg from?"
"Uh," your mind paused as you tried to figure out where it really had come from.
"It's ours," Rorsh filled in unhelpfully.
You felt him arc upwards behind you as Eon got off your legs. Slowly you moved them off the bed so you were completely sitting up in the bunk bed.
"If it's not yours you should put it back before Nurse Joy finds out. Or you might get in trouble. Here I'll take it back for you," the blue haired teenager said as he started to reach out.
He barely avoided the snapping of teeth as Nox started to meet him halfway in a show of aggression. As you scrambled to get in front of the dark Pokémon you realized that Max was already taking an appropriate step back. Which was followed by another.
"I didn't take it. My sylveon just brought it with him last night."
The lie rolled out quickly before you could think of a better one. As a matter of fact you still didn't know exactly how they had gotten to you so fast. Even by way of Rapidash, somehow being strapped on, it should have taken them longer. A pidgeot at top speeds might have been able to do it but as far as you were aware the ranch only had a few pidgeottos hanging around, no pidgeots.
"How's that possible?" Max asked in a tone just a twinge too loud for the room. Thankfully it looked like all the other trainers had cleared out already. "I didn't think it was possible to store an egg in a pokeball!"
"Wait, what?"
The eeveelutions behind you all seemed to get a bit nervous. It was no wonder considering that they hadn't told you anything about a pokeball. You looked at Max then glanced around to the four eeveelutions making their way off the modest sized bed. Idly you had to wonder how it was that you'd been able to fit on the lower bunk at all with all four of them. It wasn't like they were all the size of eevees or anything. Give or take a few inches they were three feet from top of the shoulders to the ground when they stood on all four legs.
As though he'd just been reminded, Max pulled out three darkly colored pokeballs from his pocket. In their collapsed state the looked no bigger than a shooter marble. It almost looked like a small handful of precious stones as he held out his hand, slowly moving forward while warily keeping an eye of Nox's imposing form. When you finally took them reality started to set in. They were part of a set of six Luxury Balls that you'd gotten for your eighteenth birthday last year. You had three of them in your hands right now and three Pokémon had come to you last night. With a certain level of disbelief you looked towards Rorsh, Nox, and Eon.
"It was his idea," Nox said with a scuff as he looked towards Rorsh.
For his part the psychic Pokémon looked unphased by the accusation. That was surprising all on its own. Ever since you had known him, literally all his life, he had always protested the idea of submitting to be in a pokeball. You had never pressed him either since you figured it should be his choice anyways. Now all of a sudden he had come up with the idea of making use of a present he had despised? You had the horrible feeling that it was your fault; that he'd been pressured into making the decision based on the pain and urgency in your voice last night.
"What's wrong?" Max asked as he stood before you. "Is something wrong with their pokeballs? I swear I took good care of them for you."
"They didn't have any pokeballs," now it was Max's turn to look confused so you decided to elaborate. "Until last night Nox, Eon and Rorsh had never been inside of a pokeball. Technically they were wild which is why I couldn't bring them into town even though I've raised them all this time. I just never wanted to force them into a ball since it should have been their choice."
"Well looks like they finally made their choice," Max said with a smile.
"Yeah," your tone was a bit somber as you looked at the three of them. "I can still break the balls if you guys want."
It would be a waste of roughly ₽3000 but you would hold to what you told them originally. You wouldn't hold them to a decision made under emotional duress. Of course if they chose to be free of their pokeball you would have to send them back to the ranch but you weren't going to say anything about that. You didn't want that to influence their choice.
"They can stay," Rorsh spoke up first. "Now by human laws we are as much yours as you are ours."
That thought seemed to make Nox and Eon rather happy. You shifted uneasily at that idea. Sure the way that Rorsh but it made it sound less like slavery but it also made it sound like a marriage. No matter how many times you tried to explain or negate that concept to Rorsh he seemed adamant of pushing his ideas forward. And right now it wasn't like you could argue back at him to correct what you'd just heard seeing as Max was in the same room. Which was a fact that the lilac furred Pokémon seemed only too aware of. Sneaky bastard.
So instead of rising to his comment you went to collect a few things from your backpack. You needed to use the bathroom as well as get dressed in day wear. Thankfully you had been able to dry your jeans last night or life would have been uncomfortable for the day ahead.
"I'm going to get ready for the day. The four of you can make the bed and repack my bag. I'm going to go get ready and dressed. Stay here until I come back."
"Mind if I come with you?"
The moment it came out of his mouth, Rorsh's jewel flashed bright red. It took you a moment to realize how Max's words could have been taken. You'd only gotten that realization when Max had been lifted into the air and the large window had been flung open. As adept as Rorsh was at using telekinesis it was still a bit frightening at what he used his powers for. You had no doubt that if you had let him, if you had hesitated too long, that he'd fling Max out the window. All for a comment you were pretty sure he hadn't meant the way Rorsh took it.
"Put him down right now," you demanded.
You didn't stay still as you said that either. You knew better than that. You reached a had out to where Max was floating off the ground, trying to grab a hold of anything solid. He didn't seem at ease with being it the air. Thankfully as his back was turned towards the window he hadn't realized what Rorsh's real plan was. Otherwise he probably would have terrified.
When you'd almost gotten to the point of grabbing his hand to help stabilize him (and secretly make sure Rorsh didn't fling him out of the window) Max dropped out of the air. He landed on his butt, legs slightly bent and hands kind of behind him. As you helped him stand up you shot a dirty look back towards the guilty espeon.
"Sorry he's a bit...protective," that was the nicest way of putting it. "Especially around guys."
Max's face heated up in record time. His face went red so quickly that he had started to fog up his glasses. The nineteen year old kind of shuffled on his feet a bit in pure embarrassment which you didn't blame him for in the least. Instead of making a big deal about it you simply went back to collect your stuff.
Once you and Max had all the necessities you headed towards where the wash rooms had been. Connecting the small showering chambers with the doors to the toilets was a line of sinks in the middle of the hallway. The basins were big enough to was put cloths and practically everything else the old fashioned way. At the far end of the hallway was a few driers seemingly build into the walls with two automated washing machine. Sitting underneath them.
It didn't take long for you and Max to finish getting ready for the day even as you fumbled about, trying not to picture what happened just hours before. You packed you hygiene products back into the small travel bag as you got to work on washing out last night's sleeping clothes. It didn't take too much effort seeing as they weren't really all that dirty. Mostly you just wanted to make sure that they were okay to pack away and use again later if needed. You tossed them into the smallest drier that you could reach along with Max's clothes that he'd washed out in the sinks right beside you. When you turned around you realized that Max still looked a bit out of place.
"What's wrong?"
"Your Pokémon really don't like me do they?"
You kind of winced at that question. If he knew just how much Rorsh and Nox didn't like him then he probably would have been more afraid than uncomfortable. Thankfully neither Ember nor Eon really seemed to have an issue with him.
"Nox and Rorsh are just really protective of me."
"I don't know. That seemed more possessive to me. "
"Well they have had me all to themselves since I left the school. They're not used to sharing…"
It had taken Rorsh ages to learn how to sort of get along with Nox when the umbreon had been and eevee. Even Nox had an adjustment period when Ember had come into the picture. Though funny enough the three of them didn't seem to mind Eon's entrance into the family. You only hoped that they were as gracious with whatever came out of that egg…
Oh you were really hoping that they hadn't stolen it. Based on how quick Nox was to bite you had to say that he'd definitely claimed it as his own. Which Rorsh had sort of said only moments before. As impossible as it seemed you started to realize what that meant. The grapefruit sized sac of fluid and flesh that you'd pushed out of your body just about twelve hours before had hardened up overnight to form into a classic looking Pokémon egg. An eevee egg if you weren't mistaken, it was just a bit more of a muddled red than the deep sandy brown that you were used to on the majority of it.
You kind of shivered a bit as you realized that if this was what had happened then it could have happened plenty of times in history. Rorsh might have been spot on when he claimed that it wasn't that uncommon of a private occurrence. How many worm had gone through what you just had? How many men had fertilized a Pokémon egg with or without realizing it was them? How was pokemon reproduction still all a big secret?
"Do you think maybe we can fix that?"
You looked up at him hoothoot-ishly. You realized a few of the implications of his question as he started to get flustered once more. It reminded you of the time when you'd performed in this city at a festival to show off a select few of what Pokémon species that the farm had to offer prospective trainers.
"Why don't we ease into it ourselves and keep it a secret for now?" You brought up with an uneasy smile.
You had the feeling that no matter how much time you gave them to get used to the idea that it was not going to go well. Rorsh would metaphorically kill you if he found out. Nox would just kill Max, literally, if he found out. As for Ember...well he was kind of the wild card. You really didn't know how either he or Eon would take to Max's continued presence.
"O-okay."
With a sort of caution you took a step forward closer to Max. He stared into your eyes, his own dark orbs moving back and forth as he tried to see the entirety of your face all at once.
"Can...can you really read my mind?"
You blinked and shook your head in negation. "No. I can't read minds. I can do a few things but I can't hear your thoughts. Only what pokemon close to me are actually saying. And they do kind of speak their mind but it's not the same thing."
He seemed relieved at that though you weren't quite sure how he could be relieved and embarrassed all at once. It was a rather amusing sight. You leaned in and brushed the tip of your nose against his which caused his face to heat up. Nervously he put his hands on your shoulders almost as though he was about to push you away.
"I thought you said you wanted to ease into it?"
"Alright," you responded with a hint of disappointment.
It didn't matter how upset you were with him last night at dinner for his comments. When it had come down to it he had helped you without judgement or pestering. He accepted that your pokemon were more than a little violent. And he accepted that you would have to hide any sort of relationship from your pokemon for an uncertain amount of time. For all of that you could forgive his callous words. Then on top of that your school girl crush kind of peeked back into say hello the moment he asked his question. Stubborn thing - you'd been unready to deal with its resurgence after barely seeing Max over the last few years.
"Just remember not in front of the Pokémon. They might kill you."
For your part that wasn't exactly a joke. Thankfully he seemed sufficiently scared enough by that statement that you didn't have to let him know that you were serious. Slowly you pulled away and started back to the dorm. You would be able to grab your clothes once they were finished drying. For now you had to get ready for the next class you'd been promised to teach at the local community center. Plus you had to ask you four eeveelutions about a certain special egg.
The setting sun painted the normally cool white walls of the community center with warm hues. In front of you were a bunch of kids, most of them around the age when they could legally set out on their own Pokémon journey. As you stared at them you couldn't help but feel like they were all incredibly too young to deal with living on their own. Or for handling potentially dangerous Pokémon. You were pretty sure that you had felt differently when you really had been ten years old but looking at it from your stance now you couldn't believe the regulations. Seriously some of these ten year olds could see completely over a high countertop yet and they were expected to be safe and responsible with not only their own life but another living beings'? Who decided that?
"Teacher?" One of the students asked as they waited at their spot while a lot of others had already gone.
"Yes?" It was weird getting called teacher. You weren't sure you were going to get use to it.
"Can I see your pokemon?"
"Which one?" You'd asked with a bit of mischief in you voice.
As though it had been an act of god, you had been able to convince not only Ember to go inside of his pokeball for the day but all of them. It may or may not have had to do with the idea of kids pulling at their fur.
You relaxed back against the table that you had moved about as you realized that your returned question had attracted the attention of the last few stragglers.
"I have an espeon, umbreon, flareon, sylveon and an egg with me," you said a little more helpfully to the ten year old.
Now you definitely had more kids' attention. It kind of felt like a few of them had moved back in from the hallway too. The kids that did stick around offered a lot of opinions. It kind of sounded like loudren entering the room. It only got louder the longer you let it go on. So you called for them to quiet down as you got out your four pokeballs.
Within moments all four of them were back out and being fawned over. You were pretty sure that they were being fought over as the kids tried to pick out who looked the coolest. For the most part Rorsh and Nox handled it well. Ember practically ate up the attention of the kids who thought he was the best. It was just Eon who had a bit of an issue.
It seemed that all of the attention had made him a little frightened. He hid behind your legs, pressing against them as though you were somehow able to reabsorb him or something. His ribbons wrapped all about you as he sought reassurance. It was almost like he was afraid of the children who were doing nothing more than staring at him in awe. You hadn't the heart to tell him that it was not only because he was a rare Pokémon but because he was a shiny Pokémon on top of that. It might have scared him for life to know that he'd always attract attention wherever he went.
As another half hour passed you had to slowly shoo the kids out of the room. After all, the sun had actually set and their parents were more than likely expecting them home. The fact that most of them were probably going to get into the door when it was dark was already going to be an issue. It was a bit of a conundrum - parents were okay with kids going out and traveling the world at age ten but when it came to staying out past dark in their own home town that was not allowed. You didn't quite understand it.
"My, that was a great class."
You looked towards the door to see a smiling older man. He was stout and had a rather jolly, escentric air about him as he strode over to you.
"Hello sir. I'm glad that you enjoyed the class."
The older man laughed, "I like you! Name's Wattson. I'm the gym leader in this town."
You shook his hand when he offered it. Slowly your four pokemon came to stand near you, well three of them considering that Eon never left your legs to begin with. You introduced yourself to the man as he slowly let go of your hand.
"Seems like all the rumors I heard about you are true."
"Rumors?" oops, you hadn't meant for that to be said aloud.
"Yeah. People from this town have been going up to your farm for years. Plus weren't you the girl who put that show on with those machokes at the fair a few years back?" You nodded before he continued to talk. "It was a bit low tech for my tastes but it was a sight to see."
"Thanks," was your instant reply.
"Anyways, I just wanted to swing by and tell you that the town appreciates you coming down to talk with the kids about the basics of pokemon. And I personally wanted to thank you for that last part - not many kids can say that they've got to see four different forms of eevee."
"Eevee was my favorite pokemon when I was a kid," you responded lightly.
The gym leader smiled, his white mustache being pushed up against his nose with the sheer force of it. "Ha! It's great to see that you got a bunch of your favorites around you then. Good job. Couldn't help but notice the egg you have in your bag. Is it another eevee?"
"All signs point to yes," you responded rather vaguely.
Unless a baby human hatched from it, you couldn't imagine what else it could be.
"Looks a bit tiny."
And that was true. The egg was still really small. Sure it had hardened up and gained the iconic egg shape, as well as evening out the coloring, but it was still barely bigger than a grapefruit. That worried you quite a bit, actually, but it wasn't like that was something you could affect. The most you could do was take care of it and use the incubator to keep it warm while you couldn't hold it yourself. Thankfully Nurse Joy hadn't minded the fact that you needed to borrow one once she saw that you had an egg in it. She, of course, expressed concern about the size but again there really wasn't much anyone could do about it.
"Ah! That was rude wasn't it?" The old man's laugh sounded like thunder as he laughed at himself. "Sorry. I'm sure you know what you're doing. In fact, I was so impressed by your last two classes that I decided to give you a present."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out something roughly the size of his fist. You watched him curiously as he opened his fingers and dropped the stone into your heads. Your eyes widened as you looked at him and then back at the stone, then back at him.
"Isn't this--" you didn't get to finish your question.
His booming voice had broken into your question, "It's a thunder stone alright. I figured since you like eevees and all that you might get a chance to use it in the future."
"Thank you sir," was all you could really say to his generosity.
It would be rude to turn down a gift, especially from a gym leader. Especially considering that it was the gym leaders that had set up the circuit for you to travel. It had been Max's own father that had started it out by talking to the other gym leaders, you supposed, and then it moved onto the local governing bodies from there. Or maybe they just kind of talked to the people in the community buildings. Either way you needed to behave well as you represent not only yourself and your family but your ranch as a whole. Like that wasn't full of pressure or anything.
"I gotta go. Being a gym leader comes with a lot of responsibility you know."
"It was good to meet you sir."
After a bit more pleasantries he'd walked out of the room. You assumed he walked all the way out of community building as well. Once he was finally gone it seemed that Eon felt okay enough to finally let go of your legs. As you held the stone in your hand you pulled your backpack out from under the front table carefully. The egg in the incubator was still in your backpack after all. You didn't leave it in there for long. As soon as the backpack was out from under the table you pulled the incubator out. You wrapped your arm around it, holding it to the side of your chest and your side while you picked up your backpack with your free hand.
But then the strangest thing happened before your eyes. When the thunder stone, wrapped in your fist, gently touched the glass of the incubator the egg inside started to glow white. As it glowed brightly in the incubator it also grew, taking the proper size and shape. Once the glow normally reserved for hatching died away you got a good look at the egg.
The egg was now a two toned yellow and the thunderstone in your hand seemed a little more lackluster than before.
"Looks like our child is going to be a jolteon," Ember remarked casually.
...the egg just evolved. An egg just evolved.
